I went to Fiskekompaniet for my last dinner in Tromsø. They offer two different tasting menus focused on sea food. I tried the four course menu. Pretty good, though not every dish landed equally well. Service was very nice, and the cocktails were great. You can also get great views of the harbor if you can snag one of tables by the windows.

Google
Best restaurant in Tromsø!! We went for lunch, which meant that it was quieter and the experience felt more private. Waiters were fantastic and walked us through each different type of fish and gave us great menu recommendations. Highly recommend: Cod and creamy seafood soup. Not expensive given the quality of the food!

Google
Had an amazing dinner at Fiskekompaniet in Tromsø. The set menu was spot on—every dish was packed with great flavors, and the wine pairings were perfect. The waiters were super welcoming, kind, and really knew their stuff. The whole experience felt effortless and enjoyable, just good food, good wine, and great service. Definitely a place I’d go back to.

Google
5* experience. National Geographic recommended We went there in December 2024, during our visit to Tromso. Delicious food and excellent service! Great wine selection. We order 6 course menu and every dish was perfect. We also stayed for cocktails, as their bartender was well renowned. We did not regret. Make sure yo make reservation few days upfront!

Reservations are required especially for dinners. Best to make them maybe 3-4 days in advance. The dinner menu is usually either a 4 or 6 course dinner. There’s the option to just get a shellfish platter of things that’s in season but we enjoyed the cooked food a lot more. Service is also very pleasant and it’s always nice to sit in a restaurant located along the marina. Would definitely recommend this to anyone visiting the city.

I had the loveliest meal at Fiskekompaniet. The servers are really thoughtful and peppy and the view is just magnificent. This place attracts quite a good crowd. The food itself was to die for! Everything I tried here was a top notch culinary experience- even the drinks. Definitely the best place for a meal in Tromsø. If you’re there, definitely try the creamy lobster soup, pan fried cod, apple and sage cocktail and cherry sour cocktail.

Google
Just amazing! The food was so delicious I didn't want it to end. The service was fantastic as well, everyone was kind and welcoming. I would highly recommend and would go back again. I will admit it is pricy, but we'll worth it in my opinion. Of course, you must love seafood if you go to this restaurant.

This place is worth going, and yes, sorry, I'm a meatlover. However, I have decided to try something Nordic and "fishy," and surprisingly, it's a yes for me!Simply delicious flavorful from starters like smoke red fish with harissa, apples and herbs style, steamed mussels with sherry sauce and fresh oysters which I ordered 2 variety slightly salty and a sweet one.The main courses were the pan fried halibut crispy on the outside succulicious on the inside!!Not forgetting the truffles cod fish with creamy base sauce.

Yelp
Had the A la carte lunch here. The food was great & the service was friendly. The atmosphere is casual and the restaurant has a modern feel with nice large windows with great views of the harbor. Waiter was nice enough to explain the winter cod (aka skrei) we had which was delicious. We also order the king crab legs which were good.

Yelp
During my visit to Norway, I had the pleasure of dining at Fiskekompaniet, where I found not only excellent shrimp and fresh mussels but also an impressive beer list and service. If you're in the mood for something special, the king crab served on ice is a striking presentation that you won't want to miss.

Yelp
Great meal and great ambiance in the restaurant. We came Tromso to see the northern lights and go whale watching. This was a great end to the day meal. We did a 6 course tasting menu with a wine pairing. I would go back if and when i visit Tromso. agin.

Yelp
An upscale dining spot in Tromsø by the water. I wanted to eat King Crab and ordered just that because I wasn't that hungry after coming back from a dog sledding tour. I waited a bit for a table, and then once seated it took maybe 25 minutes to get a waiters attention to order - I was ready to get up and leave right when someone finally came over. For 100 grams of King Crab it was around $40 USD. It took another 20 minutes to grab the attention of the waiter to pay - overall it was an okay spot, but not sure if I would go back knowing that there are better restaurants around.

Yelp
Ambiance is quite beautiful. The oysters are very fresh and maybe the only place in town with oysters. I give this place 4 Stars because service can use improvement. Our waitress acted like we were disturbing her. Maybe other wait staff are good but the one we had could use better training.

Yelp
I had the 6 course meal here. I think the menu changes every day based on what kind of food they want to make. I also had the premium wine pairing that went with this course as well as the additional cheese plate. This restaurant emphasizes continuity in their courses and it really shows. The food has goes from light fish like halibut, to salmon, then to a lobster. The wine goes from fruity champagne, floral light white wine, then full bodied darker whites, then lighter rose reds to darker full bodied reds. I found it funny that the premium wines they gave me ended up to be from California, where I'm from, but it's still worth noting that the wines were pretty exclusive even though the wine location is where I'm from. The cheese plate was also one of the better ones as the crackers are thinly sliced bread. Our waitress was fun as well and we would talk about different flavor profiles and why they would pair the wines with certain foods.

Yelp
We had the BEST experience! Our first 6 course meal and the chefs and waitstaff blew our minds! Recommend the wine paring with the dishes! Amazing!

Yelp
Yes, yes, yes, finally, a great fish restaurant on our road trip through Norway. At first, I was a little skeptical because we were all by ourselves in this fancy-looking establishment. But it turns out the place just recently opened for lunch business, and SAS was on strike, so tourists were rare at the time in Tromsø. It the better for us since we had a chef from Japan preparing food only for the two of us. It was sensationally good. It was served by knowledgeable and friendly service. Just perfect with the view of the harbor.

Yelp
Located at the heart of tromso, it serves basically the best food while feeding your eyes with the best scene looking at the river. The ingredients are all superbly fresh while skillfully prepared/cooked. The fish was cooked to perfection while the prawns, bring a hint of its natural saltiness to it to show its freshness. I cannot fault a single dish there. On top of that, the restaurant manager is one of the best guys we've met, and the friendliness just basically was an added bonus to the meal. I cannot recommend the place more. Do see my photos.

Yelp
I visited Fiskekompaniet with my parents and husband at the recommendation of our whale watching guide, Leonardo, and I'm so glad we took his advice! I've been in a review-writing rut for a while now, and this is the first restaurant in a long time that made me excited to write my review! Absolutely everything we ate (and we ate a lot), was completely perfect. All the flavors were balanced and delicious, the textures were lovely, and the combinations and creativity were exciting and also made for some eye candy before digging in. The staff was very informative and professional (the translation to the English language and American culture brought about some awkwardness for us, but this was the only mark on our experience, and I'd never hold it against the restaurant). We stopped in for dinner, without a reservation, December 6, 2016. After checking the reservation list, the waiter/host let us know he did have a table for 4 available, but only until 8pm. Since we don't spend all evening at a restaurant like your usual Norwegian guest, we were totally fine with this arrangement, especially since it was just 5:30pm when we arrived. All of us had water (my mom had sparkling water), and we had some appetizers, starters, all of us had entrees, and then some desserts and coffee. APPETIZERS/STARTERS Raw oysters - I'm a fan of lower salinity oysters, and even though our server told us these were high salinity, I found them to have a lower salt content. I loved our oysters and could have eaten them all day! They were from France, and the oysters are kept in a tank near the front of the restaurant live and fresh in Arctic Sea water from the fjord. The oysters are served with lemon and a vinaigrette. Fish soup - My dad got this for himself, but I got to taste it. It said "it was very good in its own way, but I think I like the fish soups in (my) town better. I don't know that it as worth the money." I however, really liked it. The broth felt and tasted very buttery and creamy. I remember there was cod, a fish cake of sorts, and I think some salmon in it. (I really want to learn how to make this dish at home, it's so cozy and tasty!) Smoked salmon - The salmon is smoked while set on a block of ice, which means that it stays moist and is brought out room temperature. The flavor was excellent, the texture was lovely. It's served over salmon roe with some pickled onions and beets sliced thin. No bagels or crackers here, which allows the salmon to have the stage all to its own. ENTREES Catch of the day (cod) - My mother had this for her entree. "It was really tasty, and it was cooked really well. It was moist and tender and not dried out. It was crispy in the right places and very good. I enjoyed eating it" I got to taste the lobster sauce that it was served with, which was very nice. Baked cod - Dad and I both got this dish, and I loved mine! Topped with crispy cod skin with pureed beets and pureed potato/turnip/I-can't-remember and beets on the side. I loved getting to have a different mix of flavors all on one plate. The texture of the cod was just right. Reindeer steak - My husband ordered this, and while waiting for his food to come out, he realized that he didn't have the opportunity to ask for the steak to be cooked medium rare. He was worried that his steak would be cooked to much and that it would be tough, but it came out just right. Our parents (who've lived in Norway for 1.5 years) explained to us that the waiters in restaurants don't ask how you like your steak/burger cooked; the chefs typically cook them all around medium or so. My husband liked his food all right (he ate all of it), and I liked my tasting bite okay. I'm really glad I got the entree that I got. DESSERTS White chocolate cheesecake - My husband and I split this, and I kind of wish we'd each gotten our own. The cheesecake had a lighter flavor than I expected; it wasn't very rich. I liked having my bites with the orange jam/puree, and my husband liked his with the dark chocolate ice cream it was served with. Sticky pudding - I didn't taste this, but my dad said, "It was very tasty. I don't really remember anything else..." Cloudberry something - I loved my bite of my mom's dessert "I'd been wanting to try cloudberry desserts for a long time. It was very yummy and fresh tasting and very light." Coffee - Norwegians get coffee. Flavorful, sour, and nuanced. A great finish to a lovely dinner. --- I sneaked a peek at our bill, and after translating to USD, I realized that dinner for the four of us was over $500! All of us really liked our food, and my mom and I thoroughly enjoyed the fanfare and fanciness of the atmosphere and occasion. It's hard to recommend something so expensive, but I know that great food costs money. Also, I know that the exchange rates and Norwegian cost of living factors in a huge deal anyway. All in all, I'd say go to Fiskekompaniet if you have the chance!

Yelp
For our first dinner in town, we decided to get some seafood and ended up at Fiskekompaniet. We had walked in earlier in the day hoping for lunch, but they don't open until 16:00. We asked if needed to make a reservation and the woman behind the bar said no. However, when we walked in around 19:00, it seemed like they would have preferred if we had made a reservations, even though there were open seats... Anyways, I guess make a reservation if you can. Seafooding: - Raw oysters (12 pcs) - Klippfisk - Fiskesuppe Our server was very friendly (maybe too friendly for some patrons, but we appreciated it) and knowledgeable of the menu. He explained all the dishes in the main course section (there aren't that many). We had decided earlier that we wanted oysters (these were from France), so we went with that for an appetizer. The oysters were very fresh and delicious. For our mains I went with the fish soup, a high-end version of the traditional Norwegian fish soup. There was halibut, smoked salmon, some kind of mousseline, and thinly shaved carrot for texture. The cream soup was then poured table-side into the bowl. I really liked this soup, although the fennel taste was pretty strong, too strong for my friend. My friend opted for the klippfisk, the dried and salted cod that is apparently a pretty traditional Norwegian dish. The fish was paired with a saffron sauce, baby potatoes and leeks. The fish was pretty good, although salty which I expected since it was previously cured and dried. Although, I did feel like parts of the fish were a tad overcooked. There was a bit of a mixup with our ticket and we had to wait for our food for a really long time. Our server did address this and apologized. Overall, if you're looking for a fancy-ish seafood meal while in Tromsø, Fiskekompaniet could be an option. The ambiance in the restaurant is nice and the far window seats overlook the harbor. Just be ready to spend a lot for not large portions.

Yelp
We were in Norway a week and were lucky enough to get a table as a walk in. I realized how lucky when every person that came in minus reservations was turned away. I would highly recommend them. The food was outstanding, the fish was incredibly fresh. We opted for the seafood tower as a starter along with reindeer tar-tar and the mussels. Every bite was incredible and very well presented our waitress was incredibly helpful and informative. We opted for a traditional skremolje with cod roe and cod liver, on the recommendation of our waitress. The meal was superb. The price was very fair for a quality meal with an outstanding atmosphere and location.

Yelp
Were in Tromsoe for a conference and the place was highly recommended. We tried to get a table the first night in town and they were sold out. Came back a few days later. They are very busy! We had the fish soup as starter. The soup was VERY salty but otherwise very tasty. We had a mixture of seared sea char and oven baked halibut for the main course. The seared sea char was actually pouched, so not a fair characterization of the dish. It had shrimps, salad, caviar, ... mixed in a good dish, but disappointing as a seared dish. The oven baked halibut was very tasty. We finished up with a mixture of ice creams and strawberry cheesecake. The icecreams were tasty. The cheese cake was more of a mousse than a real cheese cake. I love cheese cake so this was a disappointment. We had a bottle of Chardonnay from Argentina with the meal. The wine was wonderful. Overall a good meal but it had been advertised as the best fish in town and it did not quite live up to that expectation.

Yelp
Great place. We came for an early dinner so we could make it in time for an Aurora bus trip at 6:30. The place was mostly empty at this time, which meant lots of attention from the staff. We were seated right in the corner, surrounded by windows, looking out onto the water. The snow was coming down all fluffy and blowing around, like we were sitting in a snow globe. Really cool effect. They also played Michael Buble the whole time we were there, which gave them some points from me. I started with the lobster cream soup which was very nice. I love when they serve you a dish with a tiny, carefully crafted bite of food, then slowly pour the soup around it. In this case it was tiny shrimp and pickled cauliflower. Beautiful presentation. Then we both got the seasonal special--the Skrei (Deep Water Cod) which is a traditional dish. The presentation wasn't too special, and it was smothered in clarified butter, but I assume it was because you shouldn't mess too much with tradition. It was very tasty. The price tag is quite high, which is why I went with a 4 instead of a 5.

Yelp
We really wanted to try this restaurant. With limited time in Tromso, we wanted to make sure we experience fine dining at it's best. The environment was serene with lovely views of the harbor and mountains. It was a little too cool to sit outside, but we still were able to enjoy the lovely views. We both started with the seafood soup and bottle of Chardonnay. It was very good with a small sampling of shrimp, mussel and a tablespoon of white fish. The broth was a little too salty for my taste, but that didn't stop me from finishing it! For the main course, I ordered the seared sea char which came with potatoes and roasted vegetables. It was good, but it definitely wasn't seared, it was poached. I will eat poached fish, but when I specifically order a dish because of the way its prepared, then I do get disappointed. The waiter was unaware of what searing meant and I was vindicated when I looked at the menu again and saw it was supposed to be seared. I didn't make a big deal of it though, I was determined to have an enjoyable meal. My partner had the oven baked halibut and enjoyed it immensely. For dessert, I had the triple ice which was passion fruit, pistachio and something else. The cheesecake my partner ordered was more like a mousse with gelatin on top. Not the quality of dessert I would expect in this restaurant. Add two cups of coffee and the bill came to around $300.00. It was a good meal despite the flubs, but it was definitely overpriced. Go with that expectation and you will be just fine.

Yelp
Was looking for light dinner hence ordered half dozen oysters and the grilled lobster starter. The lobster was well prepared but the oysters were small and leaves a lot to be desired. Ambience was comfortable and service was decent.

Yelp
Heard about this restaurant by word of mouth and trip advisor. Tried to go by for lunch but they were open only from 4pm. When we arrived, the waiter seemed unhappy that we showed up without a reservation despite the restaurant not being full. Waiter turned out to speak good English and was flexible with dishes. We also requested that there be no dairy in the food due to food allergies. He was sure to tell us when each plate arrived that it was 100% no dairy and if there were dairy based condiments on the side. We had the caviar and lobster and oysters for starters which were all good. Tasty, dainty, well put together. Seafood was very fresh. Also tried the confit of pork and sausage. Was surprisingly tasty and refined. Highly recommend this as a finer dining location.

Charles C.

Yelp
The service was perfect. We asked the waiter to give us some suggestions. He recommended seafood platter, baked cod and halibut. All of them were amazing. It's definitely the top 1 restaurant in the town. Don't believe other rating, believe me.

Yelp
On our first night in Tromso, our group ate at Fiskekompaniet for dinner - in large part because it was one of more upscale spots that happened to also be open on Sunday (the town is quite quiet as the vast majority of places are closed). Even though our reservation was for 8 PM, we had no problems getting seated a couple hours earlier than booked - there were only a few parties when we came in (although it was fuller by the time we finished). The service overall was pretty solid, with our food being served in a pretty timely fashion, and the wine selections we were given were overall pretty good. With a view looking out onto the bridge crossing over the bay, it can be very picturesque (even though we were there on a day where there were many clouds, with only a passing ray of sunshine). The food here is extremely reliant on seafood - so if you are looking for something that has a better-rounded menu, you've come to the wrong place! We started out sharing oysters from Normandy; they were definitely better than the oysters we had earlier in our trip elsewhere in the country - well-balanced flavor profile and definitely fresh. For the appetizer, I had one of the king crab appetizers served in a dill-infused sauce and sliced cucumbers. While it tasted okay, it was disappointing because the amount of crab meat was very small compared to ordering the full crab legs (which came with a mayo-based dip) - and it was the same price. The plating was quite pretty, but it definitely felt like it was a dish you paid to look at and not to eat. For the main, I ended up going with the mountain char (the Arctic char was unavailable). The fish itself was pretty solid and was served pan-seared, although it is served with bones in (so you have to work your way around them while eating). A solid dish overall, but not the best fish I have ever had. Arguably the best part of the meal was dessert - which I unfortunately forget exactly what it was, but it had a very deeply-flavored rhubarb sorbet of sorts. Norwegian fruits can have pretty intense flavors given the amount of light the fruits get at these latitudes, and it really was showcased in the finishing dish. This is definitely one of the nicer restaurants we went to in Norway, but even though everything in the country is pricey, I did feel like the cost of the dishes was not quite matched by the quality of the food (and in some cases, the quantity). The view and the ambiance are fantastic, and I would come back to try out other dishes, but I would come in with expectations tempered a bit.

Yelp
A short walk from the Rica hotel, situated by the water. We had the fresh oysters, lobster salad, fish with kelp and pork confit. My favourite dish was the fish with kelp. the kelp was cooked and seasoned perfectly. They were crunchy and tender, and complimented the fish perfectly. This is coming from someone who is not a big fan of fish. My sister really enjoyed this place I would recommend seafood lovers to try this place.

Yelp
I tried reindeer here for the first time with a berry sauce. We didn't have a reservation, but were seated (only two of us). The staff was helpful and nice.

Alex U.

Yelp
Place was nice, but there where almost no people there. The staff tried to make the illusion of having more customers than there really was there by putting all the customers in one corner. I tried to have a nice dinner with my friends, but we were forced to talk to the person on the table next to us because he was sitting so insanely close. The food was a disappointment, none of us where able to eat the first and the last dish.

Lu W.

Yelp
Recommended by a local friend. The food is alright. Too salty for me. The cod was fresh. And it's pricy. Of course everything in Norway is pricy.
