The cheesecake was delightful. Simple but well-made and each bite left me wanting more. They have indoor and outdoor seating as well. Recommend for an afternoon pick me up!

If we were to philosophize about coffee in football terms, I‘d say Five Elephant might not win the Champions League of Coffee, but they are a team you can count on. Their playing style may not be the most spectacular, yet decent and reliable. You can‘t do anything wrong by watching them on a Sunday afternoon.

Google
Absolutely perfect neighborhood coffee shop. Completely out of the way so there are no tourists here pretty much. The shop looks like someone’s apartment and the design is very quaint and welcoming. There is a nice selection of new wave freshly roasted coffee so an espresso is not my preference but filter / v60 are wonderful as well as cappuccino and flat white. The cheesecake is very very good, I do recommend it.

Google
A very good quality of coffee. We took drinks with and without milk and all were very tasty and flavoury. The staff was very welcoming. You must try the cheesecake

Google
Had heard great things about Five Elephant and it didn’t disappoint. Beautiful scenic outdoor seating and the coffee was great, so much so I brought some to take back home. Cafe is located walking distance between other shops

Google
My guidebook "Hidden Berlin" suggested this cafe. The cortado was excellent. Friendly, helpful staff. Inside and outside seating and clean loo. Highly recommend.

Google
Checked - great coffee and cheesecake spot. Had an amazing filter here and plain NY Cheesecake. And it was nothing but perfect. Soft and creamy. Complemented with a great coffee. Lovely place

Google
This place serves some of the best coffee I’ve had in Berlin – hands down. The flavor is rich, smooth, and has those subtle, interesting notes you only get from truly good beans. A real treat for coffee lovers! They also offer a small but tasty selection of cakes and pastries, which pair perfectly with the coffee. The space itself is quite small, but cozy and calm – a lovely little spot to unwind with a quality cup. Definitely a hidden gem for anyone looking to enjoy great coffee in a peaceful atmosphere.

Yelp
Really good and creamy coffee! Read about it in a blogpost saying that it is the best coffee in Berlin and we were not dissappointed. Can totally recommend!

Yelp
A must visit when in Berlin, they do have another location by the touristy area if you find this one is too far. There are a few tables for outdoor seating tables indoors as well. If you sit in the back you can sometimes see them making their amazing cheesecakes. The staff is great, willing to explain and answer any and all questions. Must have.. their cheesecake is beyond amazing, easiest way of describing it is heaven in your mouth. It's sweetened to perfection, it's light yet dense at the same time.. must be some sorcery going on. Also must have and no brainer.. their coffee- locally roasted to perfection, be sure to buy a few bags to take home. I always do for myself and to give as gifts. So far favorite is the Biftu Gudina. They also now offer subscriptions online that ship to the states if you realize you didn't buy enough to last you.

Yelp
Great coffee - best in class!!! Had a great Flat White there and took great beans home.

Yelp
After stumbling across Five Elephant earlier this week, it quickly shot its way to the top of my favourites list. The indoor is small and modern while the outside is comfortable on a warm spring day. There is an intimate community feeling inside, and the people working are friendly and helpful. As for the menu offerings? The hot chocolate with soy was one of the best I've ever had, and my bagel was alright too. My companion had coffee and it was GOOD. There was a spicy hint of flavouring to the roast. Had I not already consumed caffeine just prior, it's likely I would have ordered one of my own. And it's no understatement that it might have been the best coffee I've had in Berlin to date. Regardless, with all the items in the plus column, it's definite that I will be back... and soon!

Yelp
Walking on the water. This is living example how to stay focus and deliver very best in every cup!
google avatar

Yelp
Lovely coffee shop with delectable cakes. We had the philly cheesecake which I would highly recommend (and split with a friend/loved one as its incredibly rich).
google avatar

Yelp
Five Elephant's cheesecake is a dream come true. I typically dislike the idea of cheese and cake together, but wow this cake proved me wrong. It is creamy, buttery, and crumbles-in-your-mouth delicious. The topmost layer is a tart, yogurtlike cream, while the middle is creamy and sweet... and the best part is the crust - a perfect balance of graham cracker and cinnamon. I would come back for the cheesecake in a heartbeat. It is dangerous to stay too long, because like me, you will end up ordering more than one slice.
google avatar

Erdem K.

Yelp
If the coffee and the cakes weren't that good, I'd give this place less than 3 Stars! Staff does not offer the most welcoming service and the atmosphere is nothing special as well. Their products are pretty good though!
google avatar

Chloe L.

Yelp
This is not your ordinary third wave coffee shop, their cheesecake is bomb!! My friends and I describe their cheesecake as the cheesecake that came from heaven, their coffees are excellent as well. Five elephants roasts their own beans and you cannot go wrong with any of their espresso drinks, batch brew or pour over.
google avatar

Hanna S.

Yelp
Omg their cakes are amazing! The New York Cheescake is the best I've ever tried and they also serve different variations like mango some time. To die for The banana bread comes with 2 big slices and is also v delicious! So is their coffee and flat white. Honestly, it's all v good! Highly recommend it!

Yelp
This is a super cute cafe that you should definitely check out if you're near Görlitzer Park! If you're a big cheesecake fan, I'd even say it's worth the hike over from the East Side Gallery. A friend referred me to this place with the claim that they serve the world's best cheesecake, and she certainly wasn't exaggerating! In addition to their killer speciality, this place is also lovely due to its laid-back European feel and interior, extensive outdoor seating arrangement, and quality coffee and (non-cheesecake) treats.

Yelp
Unfortunately my experience in Five Elephant was bad. I came in and the place was packed with people who had already eaten and were just talking (some even sleeping) -which would be fine if it wasn't for all the people standing waiting for a table- this has more to do with uneducated customers... My expresso was made with a very acid (still green and poorly roasted) coffee. My husbands coffee was bland. The cheese cake is ok so overall the experience was too unpleasant to be worth. Sorry
google avatar

Maurice A.

Yelp
Nice coffee and cheesecake (not the best I had in my life but respectable) ;) It is lovely to sit outside when the weather is good.

J B.

Yelp
Good coffee and neighborhood ambiance. Its fun to sit with the locals and enjoy the conversation and cappuccino. Definitely give it a whirl when you're in the Kreuzberg area of Berlin.

Yelp
This another one of those Berlin places that you ought to hit up. They roast their own beans and supposedly have decent coffee. I've had their croissants (oddly from another café in Mitte) and so they were definitely on my radar. So I met a friend for coffee here this afternoon. Since I'd skipped lunch I took a slice of the infamous cheesecake. Now, expectations I will admit, were on the high side especially as a few weeks back I went on a cheesecake binge with a visiting friend. Afraid it did not cut the mustard...base was overly cinnamony and not crunchy enough and the filling was...a bit bland for me. Also the filling to base ratio was not optimal. The coffee, a flat white of course (hipster wannabe that I am) wasn't super warm and too milky for me. So all in all a bit disappointing.
google avatar

Ryna D.

Yelp
Another thing I heard about Berlin is the third wave coffee movement. Brooklyn has plenty of third wave coffee shops so I thought I'd check out a few places in Berlin to compare. This place was just a short walk from Restaurant Bastard and since I wanted slightly better coffee my brother brought me here. I did like their coffee a lot but not enough to warrant 5 stars. I enjoyed my cortado but I didn't quite get the impression that this would be one of my favorite spots if I lived here.
google avatar

Diana A.

Yelp
I went there expecting specialty coffee. My first cup, a flat white with their brazilian beans, was definitely overextracted. My friend had ordered the same beans but in espresso and wasn't happy about it either. Then we ordered two espresso of the other coffee they had, ethiopian... no body. In my full experience I was a friendly costumer asking for info about their beans and I just felt not very welcomed, which is not the treatment specialty coffeeshops and baristas normally offer, which I think it's just a pitty. But hey, the cheesecake was definitely worth my time and money!
google avatar

Yelp
I do get the hype about cakes, especially cheese and banana cake were delicious. still haven't been able to try the carrot cake and apple pie but I will come back to do so. Coffee wise big disappointment. Only milk alternative is oat milk which I personally don't like but I tried it anyways. Coffee was cold, taste nothing special. Americano was very good. With a piece of cake, perfect. No WiFi and no on weekends, no laptops allowed. Recommending this place for people who crave a really good piece of cake and like coffee taste on the side, but not for coffee enthusiasts (who need other than regular milk). Not cheap, not overly expensive. Normal berlin in-place prices, around 7-8€ for a piece of cake and flat white.
google avatar

Jon G.

Yelp
I had a pretty good espresso (€2,20) and a delicious blueberry cake (€3,something). The cake definitely outshined the coffee, though.. I've had better (for cheaper) in Berlin. Will come back for more cake and maybe some beans (roasted in-shop apparently?) as a Mitbringsel. Some of the workers seem to speak English only, which shouldn't be surprising in this Kiez / in a hipster-ish Berlin cafe, but still caught me off guard. It should also be noted that as of this review, there are 46 Yelp reviews of this place in English and 42 in German. Just a fact -- make whatever conclusions you'd like..
google avatar

Ilkin I.

Yelp
It is one of the ordinary Berlin style cafes. Small, composed of 5 tables which makes it almost impossible to find a place to sit. They serve good coffee but I don't understand why their cheesecake is that popular. They only serve one kind of cheesecake (Philly Cheesecake) which is good but nothing special. Service and people working there are really nice and kind though.
google avatar

Horsekick H.

Yelp
Staff is rude. I felt like i was begging for the waiter/ barman attention when ordering, and the guy answered me without general politeness. He didnt greet me, didn't say thanks after ordering and never ever put a smile on his face. On contrary. It's Not nice to get a piss. Are the workers at 5 elephants having a shit time while working, or it's just their snobbish attitude accompanying during shift times? What is it? Cheesecake was very good but it's often sold out very early.
google avatar

David C.

Yelp
Another fantastic place in Berlin for a great cup of coffee. Pity to see some people say this place have bad service. I've never personally experienced it though.
google avatar

Chia-Hsuan L.

Yelp
The interior design is fine, cheese cake is too soft and the flavor is just a little. Hazelnut cake is a bit dry, I was not impressed by any from the orders...
google avatar

Kim N.

Yelp
This cheesecake is to die for. Light rich creamy filling tops a crunchy crust for the perfect harmony in my mouth. Aaah, I must have more! Cheesecake aficionados, get thee here!
google avatar

Monika S.

Yelp
I didn't want to really complicate my life, so I went for coffee to Five Elephant. Outside the café were sitting a lot of lovers of perfect coffee and good homemade cakes, but fortunately, a piece of their famous cheesecake left for my sweet-tooth. It was delicious, with crisp buttery biscuit base, a hint of vanilla in the cream cheese mixture and a layer of natural salt Philadelphia on the top. It was truly one of the best cheesecakes I've ever eaten. Not The Barn, but Five Elephant - that's the best café in Berlin!
google avatar

Jack W.

Yelp
Five Elephant does a great many things right. But it's not quite perfect. Let's get this out of the way, if you order anything except the Flat White you need your head checked. It's sublime. Entering Five Elephant you'll be confronted with a welcoming staff and a sparsely decorated interior. And here is lies the first of Five Elephant's two problems, there's just not enough places to sit. Actually there are plenty places to sit, but they're arranged in and around large tables which lead to couples sitting in a space for 4 and spreading out. Even when people don't spread out, it can be quite daunting to sit down with strangers. The cakes and pies under the counter are lovely, morish even, and they come in a decent enough portion for sharing. They roast their own beans in the café, which can also be bought for use at home. My only last complaint comes from something which has happened twice, I've been forgotten. And I don't mean I came in and sat down and they didn't get round to me, I mean I came in, ordered coffee and sat down, and wasn't served. Now the first time I was with a friend, so it wasn't that bad, but the second time it was busy and I was alone, getting growlers from people coming in, looking for somewhere to sit and assuming I was finished and just hogging the seat. I had to ask twice to be served, which is more than a little rubbish. However, as I say, the coffee is the best in the kiez, so give it a go!

Yelp
WOW - is the first word popping into my head after visiting the Five Elephant!! I was told that they were serving the best cheesecakes ever, since I'm a huge fan of cheesecake, i was of course sceptical - However, the rumours were right!! The cheesecake was absolutely perfect - creamy, puffy and crispy! YUM I was served a big slice and it made me feel so torn.. in one way you did not want this cake to end but on the other hand it was almost too much for me, what a world problem hurh?! ;) To complement the cheesecake, we had some really good coffee, I never really for the name of the coffee - but it sure was good! And the waiter was super nice trying to explain the different sorts of coffee and guiding us to a type fitting our preferences. The service and atmosphere was really good, the place is kind of small and minimalistic decorated, but they sure understand how to make you feel like home there. If you want to bring your computer there, its cool with them - however, you must sit in the back room - which I think is really cool :) It will for sure not be my last visit at the Five Elephant.
google avatar

Nelli S.

Yelp
My favorite coffee shop in Kreuzberg! If you go here be sure to save room for the cheesecake it is fantastic! The shop manager/owner was very sweet as well. My friend was having a difficult time finding the coffee he wanted and she took the time to make it to his liking.

Yelp
Have just moved to Berlin and decided to check this place out as a potential favourite new coffee venue as I love properly roasted artisan coffee. First impressions were good, nice stripped back interior, great smell walking up the street but that is where the good stuff ends. Service was appalling, rude staff (you kinda expect this in Berlin but if the product is good then who cares) who took ages to bring our coffees despite it not being very busy and there was a five minute gap between my flat white and my husband's americano arriving. But the coffee itself, so insipid! We were shocked. There was no bite or depth or body or anything that signifies good coffee and lifts it above the average. My flat white wasn't prepared correctly and was like coffee flavoured milk. My husband said his americano was little better than dishwater! If you pride yourself on being a third wave coffee pioneer then you should really serve up some decent coffee. So shame on you Five Elephant. We realised shortly after arriving that the clientele were all foreigners and tourists which explains a lot.Don't bother with this place if you have any palette for decent coffee as you will be sorely disappointed.
google avatar

Joanna L.

Yelp
8 euro for two slivers of cake ( delicious though it might be) is just exaggerated . For 8 euro in Berlin you can eat out in a restaurant. The hype has gone mad
google avatar

Cengiz G.

Yelp
Heard about their so populer cheesecakes and went to check it. That's true itu is good but not the best for me. Good location. Reasonable prices and good for never ending conversations.
google avatar

Jenny K.

Yelp
It was cold and Five Elephant was the perfect spot to warm up over a cup of coffee. Good coffee, I mean. My flat white was on point, the creamy texture and rich flavor made me want to down the whole cup. Cozy atmosphere and some table/bar space for those who want to stay a little longer.
google avatar

Melanie N.

Yelp
I've been told this is one of the most trendy places in Berlin for coffee. As it was near me I decided to check it out. It's a quaint spot and the coffee is good but I'm not sure it is worth the wait. I sat for over 20 minutes waiting for my cappuccino. This was on an afternoon when there weren't many people in the cafe itself so I'd hate to guess how long one would wait on a busy morning. Perhaps they were short baristas? Or is this what good coffee "costs" in Berlin? I'm rating it 3 stars only based on the fact that I've only been here once and that it came so highly recommended. Coming from San Francisco where coffee is a culture, I expect to wait for a well prepared espresso drink, but never have I waited this long. UPDATE: Went back the next day and the service was much faster. Perhaps they forgot about me outside? Still, I'll raise to 4 stars b/c the coffee was good.
google avatar

Lauren H.

Yelp
My glasses fogged the moment I stepped into the cafe; Iron & Wine was playing gently over my head; I shucked about fourteen layers of woolen things (hat, scarf, mittens, jacket) and got a table to myself. The front section of the cafe is quite small, but quite a few people seemed to be stopping in to take coffee to go. Others came in with newspapers to read or friends to chat softly to. I felt a little like I was on display, sitting by the front window and reading. I have always identified as the sort of person who doesn't like cheesecake, but that's probably because most of the time what I'd been eating instead was overly-dense, overly-sweet mattress foam masquerading as cheesecake. This was lovely. Sweets normally seem like a waste for me: they don't fill me up and they tout about as much nutritional value as a slab of brick, but this...I almost couldn't finish it. (It's because cheesecake is stuffed with secret protein, right? Calcium?) I walked three kilometers in the cold and paid the price of a train ticket for a slice of cheesecake, and it was one of the loveliest mornings I've had in Berlin.
google avatar

Jonas G.

Yelp
This place is heaven: they roast their own coffee in the shop, hence their flat white just tastes perfect. Accompany it with probably the best Philadelphia cheesecake in town.
google avatar

Ilias C.

Yelp
Famous cheesecake and several other cakes every day, plus quality coffee. You can also buy roasted coffee beans to grind yourself at home.
google avatar

Manny B.

Yelp
Cheesecake! Coffee! On the 2016 specialty coffee map. Definitely check it out. Oat milk latte and any one of the pastries is my jam
google avatar

J J.

Yelp
I didn't actually get to step into their cafe but this review is for their coffee which our vacation rental in Berlin luckily stocked up on. Possibly the BEST coffee I've had ever. If not #1 then definitely in the top 3. I can't remember which region the coffee was from but all I know was that my travel partner and I couldn't wait til mornings so that we could brew a fresh batch. I've looked into having their coffee shipped to me here in the states but the shipping plus the already expensive coffee makes it impractical. So I'll just have to wait until the next time I return to Berlin :(.

Yelp
Came here finally after purchasing a bag of well roasted five elephant beans from a nice cafe in Mitte - Oslo Cafe. Greeted by an annoying Australian server who when I asked what cake he would recommend suggested one not currently available. Anyways in the time I was there the server was obnoxious to other customers, the barista was rude, the espresso was inadequately pulled, the cake was okay but mostly sugar, they indignantly closed 10 minutes early and turned away about 8 customers. I can say though that the furniture was nice. I would recommend concierge coffee rather than going out of the way for five elephant.

bruce r.

Yelp
Great coffee and cakes... if you enjoy speciality coffee their roasting makes this a number 1 destination in Berlin!
google avatar

Silvia C.

Yelp
Customer service was lacking. No manners and rude to paying customers! Sadly they were also out of cheesecake.

Moshe B.

Yelp
First time I stumbled into a coffee shop that claims to be coffee-specialists (have their own roastery no less and sell their brand across town) that doesn't have decaf. AT ALL. Not even in capsules, not to mention freshly ground. Wow. So if you're sensitive to caffeine or can't have it for any medical reason, there is nothing for you here. Seek your happiness elsewhere. Oh wait, there's hot chocolate which you could only have with normal milk or soy milk (no lactose-free/almond/rice or anything else) so say hi to diahrrea. And the non-decaf capuccino my girlfriend got came in the tiniest cup, almost the size of an espresso and only a tiny bit larger than the size of my desire to ever come back to this place.
google avatar

Jonathan N.

Yelp
BEST CHEESECAKE IN BERLIN. What else do I need to say? The cafe is a cool little spot with always a nice crowd in there, the baristas are always in good spirits and their coffee is delicious as well. Go take your girl/guy/yourself there and you won't be disappointed. Go like after having brunch somewhere on a Sunday, walk through a park, throw rocks into the spree, and then go to five elephant to fill your new hunger with cheesecake, because it's the best in the damn city let me tell ya
google avatar

Qype User (schnit…)

Yelp
Five Elephant Coffee is the best in Berlin. They roast their own coffee in their shop. Love the smell of fresh ground coffee! The selection of home baked cakes are heavenly. My favorite is the Philly Cheesecake Lecker Schmecker... Super cool & cozy 60' furniture-gemütlich! And they are friendly... Whaa Give it a try
google avatar

Sarah S.

Yelp
Meh. The service was rude, the bagels were good, but not the amazing water boiled kind and the coffee was just okay. I don't think I will be back since there are much better places in Berlin.
google avatar

Aysha M.

Yelp
Meh. Wasn't really a fan. I read in a review about how this is Berlin's best coffee - I sure hope they were wrong because it wasn't that great... I'm going to keep searching. The two stars are for the sweets, location and outdoor seating. There's no wifi. The patrons seem cool - the staff leaves something to be desired ... like better service.
google avatar

Adam A.

Yelp
Heaven on earth. An uncompromising commitment to quality coffee and the best cheesecake in the world.
google avatar

Jessica X.

Yelp
A really great hipster cafe with delicious cheesecake and flat white!! Get both of them and your morning will be off to a terrific start.
google avatar

Patrick W.

Yelp
I guess I must be unlucky, but the both times I was here the Americano I ordered was barely drinkable.
google avatar

Oskar W.

Yelp
The location is great and yes, the cheesecake is good. Very good. And so are their coffees. I like this place a lot.
