Currently Obsessed With: Skipping the Small Talk at Nashville's Vandyke Bed & Beverage | Condé Nast Traveler

"Two months ago, I took a road trip from Kansas City to the East Coast—a trip I've taken at least a dozen times to visit family in Virginia. My usual route includes a lot of evangelical billboards and Casey's General Stores, so this time, I decided to take a slightly southern detour to spend the night in Nashville. I thought of it as a 12-hour mini-vacation instead of a required pitstop. It took nine hours to get from my apartment door to Nashville; my car's air conditioning stopped working around hour five. When I pulled off I-24 E, I didn't want to talk to anyone, see anyone, or be seen by anyone. All I wanted was a shower and a bed. Luckily, I had booked a room at a new property called Vandyke Bed & Beverage, which ended up being this grumpy introvert's dream come true. The night before my reservation, I received a text prompting me to download OpenKey, an app which allows hotel guests to enjoy keyless entry via their smartphones (all hotels should have this, in my opinion). This meant I didn't have to speak to a single person upon arrival; I simply swiped my phone at the hotel's back entrance, then again at my room door. No doorman small talk, no cheery check-in. I simply threw my suitcase on my bed and took in my surroundings. As its 'Bed & Beverage' name suggests, there's an emphasis on drinks at Vandyke. Instead of a typical hotel lobby, the building's focal point is a bar that opens its doors onto East Nashville's Five Points neighborhood. And instead of concierges, there are bartenders with the knowledge to answer any of questions (drinks-related and not) and fill your ice bucket at the same time. The property has only eight rooms, each with its own alcohol-themed name and decor that plays to the moniker in graciously subtle ways: The 'Champagne' suite features a bubbly pink couch and French coffee table books, for example, while the 'Tequila' room has southwestern-print tapestries and potted cacti. I stayed in the 'Gin' room, which looked like a playful Mad Men set with mid-century modern furniture and velvet pillows. When I entered the room, which overlooked 11th Street, the immediate vibe I got was 'apartment I wish lived in but could never afford' (my personal favorite, albeit vague, hotel aesthetic). Then I took my shower and had one of my best nights of sleep in recent memory, which could be because I was dead tired or because of the bed's super-cozy Brooklinen sheets. When I departed for the second leg of my road trip the following morning (after enjoying breakfast on the empty rooftop patio and checking out on my phone), I realized I hadn't had to speak to another human being during my entire stint in Nashville. And when—eight hours later, sweaty and tired—I was greeted by a chatty valet at that night's hotel in North Carolina, I sort of missed the invisibility cloak the Vandyke had allowed me to wear. Luckily, the B&B will be there waiting for me the next time I need a socially acceptable way to hide from humanity."

Yelp
I had the pepperoni and mushroom pizza and I added black olives. Positives, the crust was phenomenal and their ranch is to die for honestly I could've just eaten that and would've been happy. The cheese was good nice ratio of sauce. The only thing I didn't love was the pepperoni tasted kind of gross like the meat itself wasn't very good. & I think it just felt overrated to me because I heard it was the best in Nashville and it was medium OK.

Yelp
i ve order their habanaro cream sauce pizza for years.... and i have to say that their choice of removing "bentons bacon", and using a sub par replacement, has disappointed me greatly... it was a good run while it lasted....

Yelp
This establishment was recommended by another business that we patronized locally as I had stated I had come across an ad on social media for NYC style pizza. Place was hoppin' on a Mon night and I thought ooohhh, if it's busy on the slowest night of the week then it must be excellent! We were promptly greeted by the host and there was one table available which we were seated at. A server promptly took our drink order and we started off with a greek salad, which was tasty but barely enough for two and also pricey at 9 bucks for the size. We then ordered an 18" pizza of which we took 3 slices in a doggy bag and it was good but still not NYC style pizza just because it has a thin crust and looks the part of it (grease was lacking lol). Not to say this was bad, just not NYC style IMO. Service was excellent though, and I also liked that you could split the pizza in half for a dollar more for their signature pizzas (we opted for 1/2 Brooklyn, 1/2 Supreme). Parking is located behind and you have to pay, which was quite pricey IMO at 8.49 for two hours (luckily we got done within an hour). Overall, the locals must love this place and that is a good thing. Give it a try, you might like it.

Yelp
Pizza was excellent. Service was good. Lot's of table for dine in. Great price 2 slices with soda $11. Will definitely come back if in town! This is a New York style pizza.

Yelp
Five Points Pizza is a great choice f9r pizza. We had lunch here today and the pizza was great. The crust was perfect and the cheese and sauce perfectly complimented that dough and crust. The staff was friendly and the place has a cool enough vibe and ambiance. Parking can be a bit of an issue. But it is what it is. I grew up in New Jersey and just took it for granted that great pizza was available on every corner. When I moved south back in 2001, I was both shocked and dismayed to find that great (or even good pizza) was not available on every corner and in fact, was hard to find. When great pizza is found, it is indeed a time to celebrate (and what better way to celebrate than with a slice of pizza in hand?). I would definitely recommend Five Points Pizza and I will give it five stars for an excellent pizza.

Yelp
The pizza is really, really good. Big slices, NY style. The garlic knots are delicious and very big. Much bigger than other garlic knots I've seen. If you're in the area and want some good pizza and cold beer; can't go wrong with this place.

Yelp
The worst pizza I've ever had, full stop. My husband and I were visiting Nashville, and decided to order Five Points Pizza for dinner, based on the great reviews online. Our large pie arrived quickly, but was completely inedible. The crust was crisp and mealy, reminiscent of a low quality flatbread. The cheese had no flavor whatsoever, and a plastic-y consistency. The sauce was candy sweet. Overall, comically bad quality. We took a couple bites each, felt really bad about throwing the rest away, and went out to find something else for dinner.

Yelp
The pizza's amazing! The single pizza slice deal is great. I like sampling and not necessarily commit to one whole pizza. Love the hipster vibe of this place as well! 1/2 order of garlic knots (4): These came out hot. There definitely was a lot of garlic, olive oil, and cheese. Loved it! The hubs said the marinara sauce had a slight wine taste that added a nice subtle touch. Veggie slice of the day: This was surprisingly really good! And I'm not one to like veggies. The pineapple and gorgonzola cheese were really unique and what helped provide the unique flavors. The sauce on the pizza really helped give it a nice flavor kick as well. Meat slice of the day: The meat ball slices were really tasty. The hub's comment was that this actually tastes like real meatballs. The cheese and red onion slivers added to the nice flavor profile. Prosciutto & basil slice: So good! The prosciutto and basil were chopped in little slivers so each bite was filled with yumminess. If you like prosciutto then do get this! Pepperoni slice: Just a typical pepperoni slice. There was a good amount of pepperoni to cover the whole slice. Nothing else too special to call out. Each slice is sizable like the New York style, but the crust is slightly different per the hubs. It's crunchier I suppose. We technically didn't do the lunch special since we were dehydrated and preferred water, but the waitress still gave us the discount. Much thanks! Five Points Pizza was amazing: food, service, vibe, price. I would highly recommend! Also the area was super cute so I'll try to come visit again.

Yelp
Had a great veggie Stromboli for dinner! Very much worth the price I paid for it! The marinara was on point! Very friendly staff that kept my glass from being empty. Not a big place, bit I really like the vibe there! Highly recommend!

Yelp
This pizza hit the spot after walking over from a local brewery. Got a 14 inch pizza for 2 people to split and only took one slice home. We got half supreme and half Bianca, both were tasty! Also got the house salad which was pretty standard and we ate before I took pictures. Our waitress was quick and super nice! You can order pizza by the slice or by the pie. Also they have separate spots to order takeout, pick up and dine in which is really nice!!

Yelp
Go to local spot off the beaten path after a long day of taking in live music and libations downtown. Greeted with a smile and welcomed by every staff member i interactied with. Vibe was upbeat which helps when you're running out of gas late night. Great beer selection, went with an IPA to pair with a couple plain slices loaded with CRP and parmigiana just like momma used to make. Perfect cheese to sauce ratio and the crust was exactly how I like it. The art of a good slice is balance imo. Must try are the garlic rolls. I don't live in Nashville, but my friends that do always bring me back to Five Points. Check it out next time you're in town.

Yelp
Hands down the BEST pizza ever eaten. We are pizza in Italy and thought wow until we had this on a late night Sunday evening. We sat at bar and bartender was super sweet, attentive and just the perfect amount of service. I would give the whole place an extra star. Wine was pricey was my only 1/2 thumbs down.
google avatar

Tegan M.

Yelp
AMAZING PIZZA! was still hot when it was delivered. Seems like all fresh ingredients.

Chris M.

Yelp
Pizza was good but the delivery service (uber) didn't know where they were going so I ended up paying $45 for a cold pizza.

Yelp
After all these years, five points still holds up every time it is called upon to satiate my pizza craving. I've only eaten at five points a handful of times since living in Nashville over the years, but it is always consistent and good. From the warm casual atmosphere, delicious pizza, and great service It always hits the mark. I've eaten entire pizza myself here before And I've came here while on a strict keto diet and been nourished by their house salad with pepperonis. The garlic knots are always a 10 out of 10 and cannot be beat as well. My current favorite thing here is the hot habanero pizza the perfect balance of cheesy with a little bite of spice. Don't ever change five points!

Yelp
I've had Five Points Pizza a couple of times before, mainly because my company orders pizza from here for takeout as a goal for hitting the end of the fiscal year and the end of the quarter (celebrations for hitting certain metrics, as well as just for lunch). From these experiences alone, I can confidently say that Five Points Pizza has been consistently great. Pepperoni Slice: a classic pepperoni slice done right. There's a generous amount of pepperoni covering the whole slice, and while it's straightforward - it doesn't disappoint and feel like you're being skipped out on! In addition, each slice is sizable, and is a reminiscent of New York-style pizza, but with a slightly crunchier crust, which I personally enjoy. (although most of the time I prefer a more soft/doughy crust) Overall, Five Points Pizza hits the spot in every category - food, vibe, price, and supposingly the service from what I've heard from collogues. I look forward to my own personal visit one day (maybe I'm being bias since I've been able to indulge in Five Points Pizza for free because of work.)

Yelp
Best pizza in Nashville. Service was efficient and ordering pickup was smooth. Parking was a little difficult.

Yelp
Sat at the bar and got a half and half pizza so we could try two different flavors. Crust was perfect and toppings were delish. Service was attentive.

Yelp
that habanero cream sauce pizza was phenomenal 10/10 and my mom says the vegetarian was a solid 9/10. the interior design and ambience is very artsy and hippie. our server was very nice and the food came out in a reasonable time. on the pricier side, but worth it!
google avatar

Codie W.

Yelp
5 star food, service and ambiance! We walked in on a busy Friday night after paying $7 at a paid parking lot nearby. Immediately we were seated and greeted by our server. The pizza was the perfect replica of a NYC pizzeria. Foldable with the perfect amount of grease! The garlic knots were delicious and paired with what appeared to be a homemade marinara.
google avatar

Yelp
This pizza was SO delicious!! We got the margarita and added pepperoni per a recommendation and it was so good! This location has a take out window which is super convenient. Located in a great area in east Nashville.

Yelp
Five Points is great if you're in need for a NY style pie. I stopped in last week and grabbed a couple of slices that really slapped for me. Asked them to cook it half time on the re-fire and it was perfect temp and crisp.
google avatar

Yelp
We were passing through Nashville Tennessee and stopped by this little pizza shop and boy are we glad. The building is kind of small but not cramped. The staff was very polite and prompt. The pizza was amazing! We will definitely be coming back here again! I would suggest getting the habanero cream pie, it has very little spice but amazing flavor.

Yelp
Five Points is hands-down my new favorite pizza place in Nashville. My family and I ordered a few pies for carry out the Saturday after Thanksgiving (when we were all pretty tired of eating leftovers) and we were all blown away by how delicious everything was! I placed our order online through the Five Points website for two large pizzas and some of their garlic knots. Don't let the price of these pizzas deter you - they are HUGE, and you definitely get your money's worth. I appreciate that they allow you to split your large pizza into two halves of their signature offerings. Their entire menu looked quite tasty - and I'm looking forward to returning soon to work my way through even more of it. Our order was ready for pick-up in about 45 minutes (which is pretty good for a Saturday night in Nashville!) This time around, we went with a full "Supreme" pizza, and a half plain pepperoni, half "Hot Hawaiian." Every bite was packed with flavor - and the crust really had that true NY-style crispness to it. The garlic knots were also spot on - definitely a great way to kick off a meal. Now, it's very important that a pizza also makes good leftovers ... and I'm here to let you know that Five Points definitely delivers on that front. We had a few slices to spare that made for a well-rounded Sunday morning breakfast. We'll absolutely be ordering pizza from Five Points again soon!

Yelp
So good, I came back the next day. Savory, flavorful, and crispy slices. Can't go wrong with the classics bc they SING! Next time I'm bringing home a whole pie.
google avatar

Ferihan D.

Yelp
The pizza is outstanding. I had the Prosciutto and basil by the slice and we had the garlic knots with sauce. It was all great and very authentic to what you can get In Italian restaurant in the USA. The dough was amazing. It was chewy as well as soft. Hard to explain but worth the money you spend. One thing I didn't like is the short time the servers took to help and it was not very clean outside on the patio. Only two companies but again I don't know the reason for both so I will just say it but not take a stare away. Don't think it validated.
google avatar

Nate M.

Yelp
Not sure why it took me so long to review Five Points Pizza, but this place is 5-stars when it comes to flavor and consistency. I was craving NY style pizza and decided to make the trip to East Nashville and go hammer on some pies. I ordered a supreme pizza, the habanero cream sauce pizza, and a plain cheese pizza for the kiddos. We also got some garlic knots for the fam. My all time favorite pizza right now is this habanero cream sauce pizza. It had me under it's spell! The habanero mixed with the cream sauce dulls the heat enough as to not blow out your palate. I really loved the addition of the onions and the roasted cherry tomatoes on top. Sorry for the language, ** fucking chef's kiss **. I don't wanna forget the supreme pizza it was tasty, but I'm not a huge fan of artichoke hearts. I had to pluck those off the top before devouring. If you're looking for a lassic slice of cheese pizza or a funky habanero cream sauce pie, Five Points has you covered and everything in between.
google avatar

Heather B.

Yelp
Just amazing! The pizza was so tasty, got a couple of slices and a half order of garlic knots. Service was very good and attentive. Prices were not bad at all, very reasonable. I will be back!
google avatar

Jessica M.

Yelp
Had the 14" Southern Brooklyn with vegan pepperoni added and it was so yummy! Hot, fresh, and filled with basil! Love that they are open later than most restaurants during the week. The pick up window is also an easy way to order and get food pretty quickly if you're ordering by the slice!
google avatar

Scott R.

Yelp
This place was absolutely delightful, you should get the garlic knots they are without a doubt top shelf. The pizza was great, the service was perfect and the prices for the food was low. The restaurant had a definite neighborhood feel and the atmosphere was nice. It's obvious that local Nashville knows about this gem as the pizzas were leaving the store non stop as we were eating. If you're in town to see the sites in downtown this place is worth a short drive. Thanks five points.

Yelp
Pizza means so many different things to so many people. There are so many versions. I'm from the NYC area so I have my own perception of what pizza should be. I also have to alert you. The food I got was provided as take-out purchased by our host. It arrived too early and hence was cold. I took that into account in my rating and gave them the benefit of the doubt. Several versions were offered and I tried the cheese and pepperoni. All the offerings were closest to a NYC style, not Chicago, nor any trendy California style. It was just good pizza. The cheese was wonderful, but I would have liked some olive oil to make it more NYC. There was plenty of pepperoni on the other slice. The pepperoni was high quality and there was plenty of oil drainage from the sausage to make it feel authentic. Prepackaged crushed red peppers did not excite me. I like them more pronounced. All in all, I recommend the place and would like to got there to get one hot out of the oven to give a better review, but I think I know enough about pizza to say I was fair here. I do not get to this neighborhood often, but if I do, I will visit the actual restaurant and update my review. For now, take this as a "Two thumbs up".
google avatar

Brandon L.

Yelp
It's illegal for pizza to be this good. I was skeptical since this place serves New York style pizza. I had just gone to New York 2 weeks prior and went around trying some of the best. The pizza at five points is BETTER than most of the slices I've had in New York. Better than Scarrs, Joe's, Delmars, etc. The fold, sauce, dough, everything was on point. The service was really friendly. I like how they have a separate takeout area. I'll 110% be back!
google avatar

James C.

Yelp
Very good pizza. Tasty and consistent. Good chewy crust. In the middle of 5 points which is a great place to find live entertainment as well
google avatar

Yelp
Food was delicious and the service was fantastic. Ordered the pizza of the day and I was not disappointed. Our server provided excellent recommendations and our drinks were never empty. 5 stars all around
google avatar

Yelp
Legit NY style pizza in East Nashville. Has window service on the street for busier times.
google avatar

Tyler R.

Yelp
Stopped by here with the GF and her family for a quick bit before getting up the bars and got pizza and garlic knots. The pizza toppings I must admit were some of the most flavorful toppings I've had on a pizza but felt the sauce was lacking but the family disagrees and thinks it's some of the best they've had! We also got the garlic knots which were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Something interesting they use with their garlic knots is they add raw garlic to the top of which offers a pretty harsh bite when eating. I would rather the garlic be cooked some to avoid this but still It was very good! Overall I personally would give this 3.5 stars but not an option. The restaurant was really laid back and the staff were great!
google avatar

Tabi Y.

Yelp
The best slice of pizza I've been able to get in Nashville! Compares to nyc authentic. I love the ranch they have, it's super dilly. So if you're not a pickle fan then I'd stay away!

Jonathan P.

Yelp
Our family loves 5 points pizza East. The Supreme crispy and a Zeus Stromboli is our usual order and it always comes out perfect. This is a local spot that has great employees and is fun to grab a beer and a slice if I'm on my own. If you're craving pizza, get a NY style here!
google avatar

Cassandra G.

Yelp
We stopped here randomly looking for pizza. It was very busy for Saturday lunch for what feels like a little dive. We had the garlic knots, the TRex (basically a meat lovers) and plain pepperoni. All were great. We have a rule about sauce being served with bread. It needs to be warm and this marinara was piping hot. Totally forgot to get a shot of the pizza. 14" is more than enough for three people. Service was great but the space is TIGHT. If you don't like shuffling around people to get to the restroom this might not be the place for you.
google avatar

Alyson M.

Yelp
Five points has been on my list of places I need to visit for a while. I went with a friend on a Saturday night and it was very busy. We luckily found two spots at the bar. We started with beer and garlic knots. The local beer selection on draft was great. The knots meh. They are not for me. My friend loved them. We ordered two slices of pizza and had them double cut so we could share each slice. I really enjoyed both the veggie of the day special and prosciutto and basil. It's a thin crust cut long making it somewhat difficult to eat in a good way. The vibe is casual and the dining room small. Good spot for a slice and a beer.
google avatar

Danielle P.

Yelp
Two words: garlic knots. Get them. I crave these things often and whenever I'm in Nashville I make it a point to go here and get them. The pizza is fine, but GET THE KNOTS. Half order is 4 knots. They are soooo garlicky and delicious. You will be free of vampires for some time after eating these. I like that they have a walkup part so you can grab a slice (or knots) and go, or you can go to the restaurant side and sit down.
google avatar

Amber B.

Yelp
While I find most pizza in Nashville to be middle of the road (Chicago Pizza lover here) 5 points is pretty consistent and doesn't disappoint. It was nice to buy a whole pie not just a slice after bar time (while thats saved me a few times)...we ordered 18" Bianca with all spinach n mushrooms 1/2 meatball and 1/2 pepperoni. Crust super thin and a ton of toppings! It was the perfect Sunday lunch. Note: This was from the west side location.
google avatar

Mae D.

Yelp
Service was great! Pizza was fresh! i Wish there were more by the slice options but overall delicious! Garlic knots are legit a guilty pleasure! Drenched in oil but soooo flipping good
google avatar

Kevin B.

Yelp
Best pizza I've had in years. It was so good we went back a second time while vacationing. The crumble sausage is key. Great spot.
google avatar

Hippie R.

Yelp
Honestly, it had *too many* toppings for my personal tastes, but if that's your ideal, then these guys kill it. Their Spicy Hawaiian with cappy is delicous, albeit off-balance topping:bread wise, imo. Girlfriend and I stopped in one night after leaving Game Point and grabbed a za before fetching a ride home. It was a cold night out, so after receiving our pizza, we went next door to their take out location and into the proper restaraunt with seating to wait for a ride. Was approached by a waitress who nervously looked over at me before checking to make sure we wouldn't actually be eating at their store. Because that would be silly, right? I assured her we were just waiting for a ride, and she left us alone for the next eight or so minutes until we left. Rather bizarre if you ask me. Maybe servers would not have such an issue wiping down a table if they got paid more and didn't rely so heavily on tips. I'm sure my $30 per pizza could go far enough. Not like i was anticipating being waited on or something. Just weird.

Yelp
Great pizza & beer, no matter what you order it's never the wrong choice. Their staff is always ready to serve and have you feel welcomed.
google avatar

Vanessa M.

Yelp
Ordered takeout for a large group and the pizza was great! The menu was huge with a lot of options so we tried a few different ones (the garlic and vodka sauce were favorites) and enjoyed them all. This pizza was a little "softer" than I am used to, but was still delicious. We had 2 salads and enjoyed them as well. Would definitely recommend this for pizza while in East Nashville!

Russell B.

Yelp
The best pizza in Nashville! Stop here every time we are in town! Staff is always friendly and accommodating. Give it a try.
