Flakstad Church is a small and quaint wooden church surrounded by dramatic mountains. The current timber structure was built in 1780 using Russian driftwood after a storm destroyed the previous building, and it notably served as an election church during Norway’s first national elections in 1814. Unfortunately, it was closed during our visit, so we couldn’t see the interior.

Beautiful old church originally built with timber and bell tower from Russia. The church was locked on the day we visited.
Apparently there is a holiday home nearby also.

It was a beautiful church but you had to pay to get inside (which we didn't). The history of the church was amazing to read about and this place is definitely worth a visit if you're driving by.

Beautiful church off the beaten path, as per everything in northern Norway. We were fortunate enough to be married here in 2018 when we chose to elope. Gorgeous views surrounding the church, including a nice beach!

Beautiful church. Second oldest in the Lofoton Islands.

Photogenic stop on the way across Lofoten. With the white Gimsøy church one of the two, that are definitely worth making a stop at. During our visit it was closed, but the area around it was beautiful nevertheless.
