The atmosphere at the restaurant is really pleasant and comforting: nice decor, smooth jazz in the air, dimmed light. We went there for my husband's birthday, and I was ready to struggle with menu, because it's a grill bar😅 I ordered stuffed mushrooms (it's an appetizer) and a side of grilled asparagus - there was literally no main dish for vegetarians. But it was pretty nice. Hubby enjoyed his steak and Caesar salad as well. The cocktails were ok. The tap beer was good. Things that spolied the impression: dented tops of salt and pepper shakers; absence of coasters and use of cheap napkins instead; long wait on the entrance to be seated. I didn't visit their restroom, so I don't know if there are any unpleasant surprises.

We absolutely love Flame!! Our go to for amazing steak without the wait. Everything we’ve tried on the menu has been amazing 🙌

First I need to say that the food is excellent! We had the petite filet and 22oz T-bone Steak. Both cooked and prepared well. Mashed potatoes also very good. The veg was eh but we were there for the steak. Our beef (pun intended) was the service. Although our server was extremely attentive and really communicative and great, waiting an hour for medium rare and medium steaks was baffling. But more confusing was the drape in the women's bathroom for one of the stalls. If you are steak place and charging your pricing, clean up your kitchen and get a door for your bathroom stall. Otherwise, the food is worth the visit (maybe just takeout and loads of advance time to the kitchen)

Flame is one of my favorite local restaurants. The ambiance is pleasant and the cocktails are good. All of their dishes are very well priced and everything tastes like it's made fresh. My go to is the lobster dip, crabcakes, and ribeye. They recently added creamed spinach as a side and it's very tasty.

The wife and I celebrated our anniversary there, everything was great, the shrimp cocktail was good, steaks cooked perfectly, we had a ribeye and a New York strip, it was busy and service was one point, we will be back.

If I could rate 10 stars I would. We had waiter Justin. Great service from him. My wife and I ate with another couple. All four of us loved every bit of the food and drinks we had. Zero complaints. If there was a perfectly cooked pretzel this restaurant knows how to do it. I had the filet cooked medium and it was delicious!

Had an incredible dining experience.The food was absolutely delicious, every dish was a flavor explosion. The steak was particularly outstanding. Our server, Ashley, was exceptional - attentive, friendly, and provided excellent recommendations. Definitely recommend this place for a fantastic meal!

I can't believe I haven't been here yet. Went for a Tuesday night dinner and couldn't have been happier. Good drinks, atmosphere, and the steak and pork chops were delicious. Yes, you're paying a little more, but it's worth it.

We were seated immediately, which was nice. Dalia came to our table pretty quickly and took our drink orders. The drinks took a little bit of time, but not too much. We ordered dinner and it came quickly. DH had the ribeye; it was cooked perfectly and very little fat he had to trim off. I had the risotto with shrimp and it was very tasty. The shrimp were a tad overdone. After a day on the road, it was nice to have a nice dinner with attentive service in a quiet atmosphere.

Another great meal with friends at Flame. It was their first time visiting, but we are regulars. The pub pretzel with beer cheese, drinks, steaks, and sides were all delicious. I have to take one star away based on the length of time it takes for the food to come out. Service was great, just a lengthy wait for the food.

The stuffed flounder was just ok but in hind sight I should have gotten a burger. They seemed awesome. The mashed potatoes were meh. I couldn't even taste garlic and I had to add salt. I am not a salt eater but potatoes need salt. The asparagus was good. The flounder was very under seasoned. I would definitely order a burger next time I am in town.

Excellent service. Ambiance is nice. Steak was excellent. Food was ok overall but excellent if you only order meat/steak. We tried the Tomahawk (bone in steak). Some chicken dish that we ordered was bland even though it was covered in a bbq sauce. Most restaurants don't use real butter but some kine if canola oil blend which is gross in my opinion so I only recommend going there for the steak or the pretzel with beer cheese.

I called yesterday to take my husband out for a nice dinner at what I thought was a queer friendly restaurant, an anniversary dinner at that, so I would be holding his had, I asked if they were queer friendly and I got an answer of an adamant NO so that's that they don't get my money

I remember when this place was Murphy's and they had a side salad with the best 1000 Island dressing. It's a little more upscale now as Flame Grill & Bar. My husband and I met an old friend for dinner. The seafood pasta was flavorful but not overwhelming to my delicate palate. My husband had salmon and Caesar salad. Again, very good. Our friend had a chicken dish, one of his favorites. Service was very good. The waiter stated on top of things. Comfortable atmosphere. Nicely appointed decor in a kind of woodwork, warm sort of way.

Steaks were great! We enjoyed the food and the service was excellent. We were celebrating our daughter's graduation.

Granted, it's a Friday night. But, the service was poor. They were out of the special. Only one salad available (Caesar). All 4 of us ordered the same filet but mine was 1/2 the size of the others. Waitress and the manager said is because I ordered medium well and it reduced the size of the steak compared to the others who had just medium. Pretty crazy answer. The presentation of the food was really bad. I won't be going back to this place again.

Food was very good. I wish they had told us the porterhouse was $75. Service was lacking. But we really enjoyed the food except the stuffed mushrooms which tasted strange.

After seeing commercials for the restaurant, we made the hour trip from Paducah to try out your restaurant. We didn't have reservations on a Friday night and were told it would be 15 minutes. We waited less than that. We were seated and greeted by our amazing server, Robert. He provided excellent recommendations for us and was very attentive to our needs, even running out to the parking lot to give us our to-go box we had forgotten! The food was delicious--our party had the Surf and Turf, The Filet Special, the pork chop, and the New York Strip steak. Everything was prepared exactly Ike we wanted. The portions were excellent sized for the price. We also enjoyed the rolls. We will definitely make the drive to dine with you again and hopefully will have Robert as our server!

Decent steak. Shrimp pork belly dish was a little cold and not a good pairing with steak. Salad was lame and sloppy. Service was harried but friendly. One of the better meals we had in Carbondale.

Stopped on way home from a wrestling tournament-- great waiter, simply great food and wished I had made room for the fried bread pudding- will stop again!

Horrible, overpriced , and rude management. Could of made a better steak myself. Restraunt is dark and dingy inside with bad mold odors. Dirty floors. We were a large group to eat and none of us liked our food and when we complained they went ballistic on us and lashed out . The people running this restaurant have some serious personality issues.

I had the salmon with spinach and potatoes. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 is because the portion was too small. I would pay another $10 for more.

Honestly worth the price. The food is amazing every time. I've never been disappointed by this place. I recommend trying a variety of different things!

Does not appear to be high end from the outside, but very nice when you come in. Menu had a good selection. I got the surf and turf and my partner got the ribeye, both our steaks were cold along with the veggies. The only thing that was hot was the potatoes, which did not taste homemade. everything tasted great and service was long but the waitress was nice. maybe on a less busy night i would recommend.

Lobster dip is delicious. Catfish big size, nice & crunchy. Service was just ok. Wonderful outdoor area. Superb ambiance inside. Business casual. Nice date spot. Fair priced. Reservations are taken. Ample parking. I hear the shrimp is appetizing. The ribs only served Fridays. They need more specialty drinks, with tequila or cognac. Big wine menu.

Delicious! We've eaten at Flame 5 or 6 times in the last couple years and it's been excellent every time. Tonight I ordered curb-side pickup and we had the Bacon Wrapped Meatloaf, Seafood Tuscano, and Fried Calamari. Every bite was good. It's a bit of a high-end-menu, which is somewhat unique in Carbondale and reminds you of dishes you might find in larger city eateries. The prices are between $15 and $30 a plate and I think that is fair given the quality that I've experienced. Due to Covid they are serving a limited menu and offering carryout only. I found that they are giving out deals via their facebook page.

Wow! Talk about accommodation!! These folks are terrific! We had stopped to have dinner on the patio because we had our pooch with us and it began to rain as soon as we were seated. Our server said "oh this won't do" and moved us to the first table INSIDE! Such a great accommodation! I'm so grateful to these kind people. Their courtyard is very cool and elegant. I totally recommend them even if you don't have a dog. PLEASE go see these guys when you are looking for good food and great people!!

Nice Friday evening dinner with the wife. I had the Prime Rib, she had the Ribeye. Food and Service was excellent! Will definitely come back again.

After hearing countless good things about Flame, my boyfriend and I finally decided to try it. Unfortunately it did not live up to expectations. Our service was not very good, steak wasn't cooked correctly, and we didn't get our appetizer until after our main food. Burger was good though.

A co worker and I stopped by here for dinner last night for our only night in Carbondale on business. The building, logo, and signage were incredibly unimpressive, but we came here due to the high reviews for restaurants in the area. The interior is borderline funny. I told my co worker it felt like an 80s steakhouse...very cheesily decorated. Maybe that wad intentional. The place was very dimly lit like they wanted to make the ambience very romantic. I wanted to give the place 3 stars max, due to the exterior and decor, but our wait service was great and the food wad actually very good. The lobster and spinach dip was very goos, although the pita chips were way too fried in grease. They were almost transparent. I wish I ordered the ahi tuna dish. The ribeye cut was great, but was too much food and I wish I would have ordered something I would have less commonly ordered. But that's my fault. The lobster mac was just okay. My co worker did like her buttered scalloo dish. Overall, I can see why this restaurant averages 4 stars. The premium steak cuts are super expensive though.

The Flame is my new Favorite Steakhouse in Southern Illinois. We started by reviewing entrees on yelp but found that a number of entrees pictured were no longer on the menu. Fortunately we started with the Brushetta which was the best I have had. Perfect crunch with great fresh flavors. It could have been a meal in itself. We accompanied this with a bottle of Bodega Norton Moscato from Argentina which was so flavorful and unable to be found anywhere else in the area. For entrees we got the signature Ahi Tuna and the Filet Mignon (See Photos). The steak was expertly aged and perfectly cooked with a choice of toppings. The grilled onions and mushrooms we chose perfectly complimented the steak. The Ahi Tuna was also perfectly cooked with a wonderful "crust" and full flavored sauces. The Chocolate Ganache Cake (See photo) was a perfect stuffed ending to our meal with rich fudge layers. The service was prompt and knowledgeable about the food. The restaurant was mostly full with people waiting to eat when we left. The food was on the medium high side but worth every penny for the quality of the food and wine selection.

I like the ambiance, the layout of the restaurant and the diversity of the menu. They have some really great menu items - some of my favorites are the lobster dip and stuffed mushrooms (both appetizers) and the chicken piccata.

Recommended by a co-worker so wanted to give it a try. On Thursdays they have 4 course meal, shared with 2 people $50. The meal was delicious. Each person got a salad, shared appetizer, separate entrees and shared dessert. Plus a carafe of sangria! ( Although it tasted more like a mixed drink then sangria, still tasty). Salad: crutons were great. Appetizer was salmon cakes: awesome. Steak was great with small potatoes. Bacon wrapped shrimp was amazing. Dessert was pecan pie. Definitely a cute little place. Go on their website to see other specials! That's how I knew what to ask for because they didn't bring the specials menu at first.

Poor service - poor quality of food. Welp, this came as a huge letdown, yet again I wasn't expecting all too much when the waiting staff didn't even show us to the table but just pointed to a spot. Here's where things got interesting, not only did it take way longer than it should have our was unsanitary, subpar and undercooked. For instance, we had to have a steak sent back 2 separate times because it was fully raw. With this, it was the same piece of meat that had been on someone's plate and just thrown back on the grill (this happened twice). After this, we brought it to the managers attention, in which we were essentially called liars until I brought up the the fact of health concern, in which he promptly removed the steak from our bill. Unfortunately for myself by then I already had consumed food that ended up getting me sick later on that night. I really could drag this on about the countless problems I had with my dining experience but save yourself and find another place to eat.

Not Handicap friendly We basically were told there was no room for my husband who is in a wheelchair. The excuse was all of the inside tables were shoved together for larger groups and the only seating was outside. It was over 90 degrees outside. We were not even given a time frame when a possible table might be available inside. The host acted very sheepish when he told us this. I understand why he acted like he acted. We heard what he was told when he asked where he could seat us. We clearly heard someone tell the host there was no room for a wheelchair. The handicap parking is also in violation of the ADA laws. No van ramp access space available. We have reported them to the Illinois Attorney General. The ADA law was passed in the early 90's there is no excuse for this in this day and age.

The ribeye is outstanding! I will definitely come back every time I crave a really good steak.

Outside patio lunch was perfect. Great food and great ambiance--will def be returning. The lemon chicken was perfectly seasoned and the bourbon cherry cheesecake was super delic!

What a great place for a nice dinner date. Great food wine, and service. Will go back to try a new dish, maybe split the tomahawk steak yummy.

We waited over an hour for our $70 2 steak meal. It never came. They at least comped the drinks and appetizer, but only after we complained.

One of the best restaurants in carbondale! Everything is great but the ribeye is out of this world. The place is great give it a try.

Sad to say it was the worst place I have ever eaten, & I'm not a picky eater or ever leave bad reviews! But I'm sorry, the meatloaf tasted like Alpo dog food, the chicken breast my son ordered was so dry he couldn't even cut thru it, & my baked fish was so burnt on the bottom I had to scrape it off to eat it. Gordon Ramsey would have fun at this place!!

We had a family birthday dinner here last night. The service was excellent! There were 4 in our party and we ordered ribeyes and New York strip strips. By far the best cooked steaks in this area. We've tried the high end restaurants in the area and I'm not sure how Flame seasons and cooks their steaks but they were delicious. Great cuts of meat and seasoned to perfection. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for quality food.

This is the second time I have been to Flame, the first time I ordered the smothered chicken which was juicy and delicious. The second time I tried something different which was a disappointment, the prime rib was over cooked and not flavorful. The atmosphere was nice and service was fairly quick.

This place was awesome!! Daelia was our server and was fantastic!! My wife n I both had the prime rib . I'm from Chicago and have had really good prime rib ; this place may have the BEST prime rib we've ever had!! The sangria was excellent as was the raspberry lemon drop martini. Don't get the Thai rice pilaf- do get the mashed potatoes or baked potato. Maybe try the specialty potatoes. Save room for dessert- Death by chocolate- it's outstanding!! Definitely eat here

Dessert first means a lemoncello drink with whipped cream Elderflower martini is perfect delectable blend of light floral with a hint of lemon Dark and stormy to wake up Bruschetta has a good blend of tomatoes and onions topped with blue cheese Mains are ahí tuna seared with a nice tender raw center and scallops topping risotto (very creamy but mushy). Came with a side salad or a soup (mushroom bisque) and honestly I could come here just for the soup and salad they were so good. Got a side of lobster mac and cheese. The hot herbed bread and butter topped out a good meal

Pretty darn delicious. Came to check them out for lunch with a co-worker. Ordered the shrimp cobb avocado salad and it was wonderful. Flavorful, fresh, and tasty. The prices are not your typical lunch prices, expect minimum $10 for a sandwich, my salad was $14 bucks but worth it. I will say allow yourself a few extra minutes as it's not a in and out restaurant.

What a relief to find an amazing gem of a restaurant near SIU. The appetizer pretzel was unlike any we've seen. The mushroom soup was amazing. All steaks were perfect. Terrific service as well. We will eat here every time we visit. Four satisfied people, including a toddler and college student.

Good atmosphere - as mentioned in other reviews. This isn't gourmet dining by "big city" standards; but it is darn good for Carbondale. Recognize that out here you get "student fare" or "fast food" usually. We used this as a last dinner before subjecting, uhh... sending our daughter to college for 3 months of dorm food. I'm glad we did. For a reasonable price, we had a very good dinner. Beware... the desserts are BIG....! BTW, the service was top notch. The server even helped our 18-year old understand what was in store for her at SIU- Carbondale. He came back several times to ensure we were doing OK and our needs were met.

We thought this restaurant was fabulous! Priced just right, awesome food! The special was a petite filet and potato for $12.99. Cooked perfectly! I had a key west Martini and the fried bread pudding too! All amazing!

The flame has consistently great food. We go there often so that we can sit outside in their court yard while enjoying their bread pudding, which is amazing! This is one of our favorite places to eat in southern Illinois. If you're going to go here on the weekend during dinner time, make sure to have a reservation if you don't want to wait; sometimes it can be hard to get a table.

I can for sure say that this place was FLAME. I actually went to Flame a couple days ago for the first time and it was so pleasant. Not many restaurants have bathrooms that smell good and there's did! So when I first walked in I was like, "OOO, OK!" My friends and I actually ate outside and that was really nice! They have a lot of plant life, cozy furniture, and the mood lights which I LOVE. It's just very aesthetically pleasing, the inside and out. I had ordered their Sangria and Plain Jane Burger and they were both really great. I would of made the Sangria sweeter, but it had a nice strength and taste. The burger was succulent! So juicy, so delicious, I ate every nook and cranny of that burger, I swear. Of course eating outside comes with bugs so that was unpleasant. The prices are wild, so I got something cheaper off of the menu. This place is great for a celebration of some kind, not for a random dinner... unless you have money to do so. Overall, a knockout restaurant!

We had an excellent experience here!!!! The service and the food was outstanding !! Our waiter was awesome !!! Didn't get his name but he told us he was a teacher. Big thank you to this fabulous waiter !! We will definitely be going back. So you know this review is recent , we were there last night 9/23/2021.

This spot served me a reheated order of lemon- asparagus risotto informing me that it is pre-made. Yes rice can survive being reheated it's not the reheating that caused the problem, but the way that the rice was stored before it was reheated. When I woke up the next morning my whole abdomen was cramping and hurting very bad, I had cold sweats, I threw up and felt dehydrated and very fatigued all day. I had to have assistance getting to the bathroom because it felt as though I was going to black out before I got that stuff out of me. At home we eat 100% Non-gmo I have had zero problems and don't eat leftovers and Although I have no proof I can only believe this is what made me sick. Another note they slabbed thick shavings of Parmesan to cover the top, had this meal countless times before this incident and have never seen them layer cheese on top of my risotto. I had ate only a couple bites before I noticed it was making me queasy.

Had a great experience here tonight for my boyfriend's birthday. Ashley was our server and she kept on top of things very well. Had the pork chop and the New York strip. The soups were very good and homemade. Had the lobster spinach dip as an appetizer, I would order it again. His jack and Coke was only $2.59. Overall I'm giving a five out of five because experience was wonderful and the atmosphere was beautiful. The picture does not do it any justice
