Prince Edward County, Ontario—the Creative and Outdoorsy Enclave Between Toronto and Montreal | Condé Nast Traveler

"In Bloomfield, I threw back great cocktails—like the Smith Martini with kumquat gin, Lillet, and St. Germaine—while the kitchen’s smiths cooked over a wood-fired stove; the grilled meats were amazing, the truffled polenta croquettes indulgent, and the wood-oven sourdough with cultured butter unexpectedly memorable." - Todd Plummer

This was a fantastic choice. I read through the reviews and we chose the Chef’s menu. This is 100% the way to go here. The chef chose the Mezze platter with sausage, Manchego cheese and an assortment of spreads everything was good. Next came the grilled peach which was amazing, one of the best dishes I’ve had anywhere. The Tuna ceviche was perfect. Next came a plate of escargot, which was a first for one of us and excellent, the garlic butter it was cooked in was fantastic. The last dish was a Rob-Eye steak, cooked to medium perfection with a crunchy crust and side dishes of grilled beans and great fries. We had just enough rooms for dessert, and along came a chocolate brownie with a whipped raspberry sauce that was to die for. All of this doesn’t come in cheap at 99CAD per person but for my view, worth every cent. But this place is more than just the amazing food. Service was spot on, professional and friendly. The pacing of the tasting menu was perfect, we didn’t feel rushed at any time, and that is as important as the food. If I could give this place more than 5 stars, I would!

Google
Flame & Smith is a must. We went all in with the Chef’s Menu (aka: “surprise me, Chef”) and it was the best decision of the year. Four courses of absolute magic — every bite bursting with flavor. The steak? Cooked so perfectly it deserves its own fan club. If you get Mikayla as your server, you’ve hit the jackpot. Trust her recommendations, you won’t regret it. Bottom line: stop reading reviews, book a table, and thank me later.

Google
Get service in every direction you look, their drinks, beer & wine selection are awesome and the servers are fantastic. We were a group of 12 so we received the chefs choice for eats. Unbelievable variety and everything was delectable.

Google
I've been very torn about making a review because although the staff was wonderful and the atmosphere was cozy, the meal left something to be desired. My husband and I ordered the shrimp for an appetizer, the rib eye, skirt steak with a side salad and an order of their beets for our entrée. For dessert we got the brownie with raspberry foam. I found my skirt steak to be overly salted and the worst part is I ended up with food poisoning and had a very rough next day. We had been wanting to go for years and decided to go for my husband's birthday dinner but I'm unsure I will ever go back and try again.

Google
Wonderful dinner at this place. It’s not a grand place but this makes the experience more intimate and cozy. Love the open kitchen concept and grill at the back and the service was attentive. This will be a regular stop moving forward.

Google
I had one of the possibly best restaurant steaks I've ever had. Tasty, tender, and cooked to perfection. The lamb rack was delicious as well. The service was great, and our server was very knowledgeable and friendly. The ambiance was great, an upscale and fancy feel to it.

Some friends and I had a wonderful dinning experience at Flame + Smith. We loved the food, service and laughed all night. The portions are generous and quality was superb. I highly recommend Flame + Smith to anyone visiting PEC looking for a great dinning experience.

We did the $99 tasting menu for two ($198) and afterward, because we felt dissatisfied, added up the value of everything we were served using their own à la carte prices. It came to $181, before tax or tip. Here’s what we got (served family-style): – Sourdough bread basket with 5 slices and butter, served on a “local stone” (seriously?!) $7 – Chicken liver mousse with thin crostini (well worth the $10!) – Salad with excellent grilled artichoke and egg (favourite dish of the night) – Albacore tuna crudo (interesting presentation) – Escargots (6) with 3 slices of baguette – Ember-roasted radishes with zaatar (genius level!) – Lamb rack (split and plated separately): one guest got 1 small bone, the other got 2) with potato $50 – One slice of very average "burnt cheesecake" with blueberry (to share) – Two chocolate truffles (delicious!) That was the entire menu. No amuse-bouche, no palate cleanser, no surprise bite or sip. Not even a printed menu or a chance to know what we were getting in advance. We couldn’t make any requests or even plan a wine pairing because the kitchen decided the lineup for us. After dinner, I wrote to the restaurant with a polite note and asked why the $99 tasting menu cost more than the value of what we were served. Sarah responded and suggested that we had received a mezze board and two full desserts, neither of which was true. I sent back a corrected list, and after two emails from me, she sent a $25 refund. The password to the e-transfer was literally: “apologies.” Prior to the refund, she wrote: “I’m sorry that you did not feel like you had value...” and “Perhaps a more substantial main (the dry-aged steak) would have been more appropriate...” The irony is that we would have preferred the steak, or just more meat in general, if we’d had any say in the menu. But we didn’t. It was all decided by the kitchen, and the server was not informed. To be fair, our server Angie was fine, and the junior staff ("Tee" and "Frances Ha") were terrific, and we still tipped in full. But the overall approach lacked true hospitality. What WE noticed most? The unscented hand soap in the washroom. That was probably the most thoughtful and generous part of the evening. (A genius choice!) I don’t expect a redo (we’re only in the County every few years) but this menu didn’t land, and the management response felt geared to once-in-awhile tourists. There’s some good cooking here, but this experience left us feeling taken advantage of. What happens when customers don't notice the price and menu discrepancy?!

Yelp
Had dinner here tonight with the family. Nice place, good service and very good, fresh, local food. Highly recommended and nice ambiance.

Yelp
Oh. my. The food. The dining experience. The interior ambiance. It's been a long time since I've been THIS impressed by a restaurant and literally ALL the dishes we ordered. If there is one restaurant to splurge at in PEC, I would highly recommend you pick Flame + Smith! I have to first compliment our server, he was exceptionally pleasant! Attentive with our waters, brought sharing plates for everything we shared, cleared the table/plates/utensils after each dish, and was so knowledgeable with the local ingredients! Every dish was plated BEAUTIFULLY and garnished with their garden edible flowers. I kid you not, all of them were 5/5 knock my tastebuds off. -Chilled zucchini soup (surprisingly refreshing and creamy) -Local Burrata & heirloom tomatoes (loved the bits of salt in the focaccia that brought out the sweet tomatoes, nutty pistachio butter, creamy cheese and tart berries) -Thai Soft Shelled crab (so crispy on the outside but sweet crabby meat on the inside, compliments the green papaya salad underneath) - Lamb rack (overall yummy, but wish the cut of meat wasn't as fatty as it was) -Charred radicchio with hazelnuts (nice side to add to our main course) -Strawberry tart (showstopper and grand finale of our meal, the thicker crust carries the white chocolate lava and strawberry foam cloud on top) Ugh, I still daydream about eating here. Keep it up Flame+Smith!

Yelp
The service at Flame and Smith is impeccable. I wish I got to enjoy a meal at the restaurant but I accidentally made reservations for the wrong day. They informed me the patio isn't open late at night due to the bugs so the host allowed me to do take out which they don't usually do. I ordered the snack tray, just something small for dinner and the Strawberry tart. Both were delicious. The strawberry tarts was so yummy. The crust was the best part. This place is beautiful, inside and out. I will have to visit another time and try the food and enjoy the setting. I cannot thank the host enough for allowing me to do take out. It is difficult when travelling with a dog sometimes so I really appreciate the accommodation they made.

Yelp
Flame + Smith is an unparalleled masterpiece. Owners Sarah & Chef Hidde Zomers make this place more special than you can imagine. I'm not a fan of oysters by the cascumpecs are amazeballs. Seriously amazeballs. And who doesn't love dry aged beef? Topped with masterful cocktails, there is literally nothing to dislike about this place, including the ambiance of a former forge, hence the name. If you're in or passing through PEC, Flame+Smith is a must.

Yelp
Flame + Smith served up a phenomenal tasting menu for our party. We ordered the tasting menu and all the courses were fantastic. The steak in particular was cooked sous vide and finished on the grill, so it's got a perfect medium rare throughout with a nice charred crust. With a great chef's table giving a direct view of the magic, fantastic flavours, generous portions, and impeccable service, Flame + Smith became the highlight of our trip to PEC. It's a must visit restaurant for anyone looking for some fantastic steaks.

Yelp
First time coming to Prince Edward county ! I was very pleased with the overall experience of the service. Everyone was genuine, nice and welcoming. All smiles here! I found this place on google, and oh did it surprise me. I expected the food to be average since it's pretty out there from the city life. However, honestly it could be just as good or even better comparably to certain quality in the GTA! I wasn't too hungry so I ordered the escargot, it was yummy! Super tasty and comes with some slices of baguette. The service was great very friendly people, and they also had a few recommendations for spots to visit. ++ nice decor and atmosphere ;)

Yelp
Have to say one of the best steak frits I have had the iron skillet to kept the fries hot and delish Steak was tender and the sauce accompanied it just right. The tomato barata appetizer was also delightful. Will be back next time we are in town.

Yelp
We have eaten here several times. This restaurant is professional, delivering consistently high-quality food and appreciated service. There are obvious reasons why this restaurant is busy in summer and winter alike: they cater to good customers. They value their customers. Highly recommend.

Yelp
I came for the steak, and I stayed for the experience. Loved every moment here. Great service, great food, great atmosphere. The fries were better than expected, of course you think they're all similar, but these hit different. I had to fight my girlfriend off of me. I told her to fend for herself, this was MY steak! 4.6/5

Yelp
Ambiance: Beautiful outdoor patio, water fountain, candle light dinners. They even had a table on the grass to accomodate more outdoor seating during Covid! Service: Beautiful, we decided to come by with a large party after Sandbanks (almost near closing) and they were very accommodating. The server knew the menu well and answered all of our questions. Food: Most of us were hungry for a quick dinner and decided to get their burgers. They were juicy, huge portions and accompanied well with their fries. Oysters: this was definitely one of the better oysters I've tried. We kept ordering them!

Yelp
Loved it! A very welcoming atmosphere as soon as you walked in. It was a unique dining experience with the open style kitchen with contemporary style but very cozy feel. Three of the five if our group had the cod which was cooked to perfection but would have preferred green beans or asparagus instead of the white beans. Our server was delightful and efficient. After dinner, we enjoyed a cocktail by the outdoor firepit. Fantastic evening!

Yelp
Great environment & food is genuinely incredible. We had the mozzarella heirloom tomato salad - the tomatoes were so fresh & had amazing flavour to them, plus the pistachio butter was a great touch. I also did the steak with salad instead of fries. Not kidding - the salad was a "basic" mixed greens salad with some sliced cucumbers but it was actually amazing. It's hard to describe but it tasted like they'd just picked the vegetables that day. It was one of the best simple salads I've ever had. The steak was cooked to a perfect med rare, just the way I like. The one thing that put a bit of a damper on the experience was the service. Everyone was very kind, but our mains came out before our starter, & my steak came with butter on it & a different side than I'd ordered. I have a dairy allergy & made a point of letting our server know, so it did concern me when my order came out wrong. Our server did apologize for punching my order in wrong. But after this happened she didn't really come by much. She came by to check up on us & clear some plates at one point, but after that we didn't see her again. I had wanted more wine & the others were considering dessert, but after waiting so long we decided to just get our bills and leave. A really sweet girl came by & took payment for us, so not sure what ended up happening to our server. All in all a good experience & would go back again because I think the service issue was a fluke. All the other servers we saw were very on the ball with their tables.

Yelp
With so many different restaurants that had raving reviews, it was hard to choose but I would definitely recommend Flame + Smith in PEC! Service: definitely great as the staff made sure we werent waiting for too long and apologized for not having a seat for us stat. Was greeted not just by host but also by the other staff members and was really welcoming. Selection of food was farm-to-table with an emphasis on the use of the flame oven which I believe makes their food that much better with smokiness and just a charred flavour to it. Food Small bread selection (3.5/5) - large portion for a small! Didnt think there would be that much selection of bread and generous portion indeed. Some of the bread, while fresh, was not to my liking as it was more dense than I preferred. That being said, you can taste the freshness and it was good, but I am not quite a fan of sourdough so perhaps if you enjoy sourdough this would be a better option for you. Warm mushroom salad (5/5) - A MUST! Although this salad appeared simple with some greens and a plethora of mushrooms, the mushrooms said it all. Different textures confuses your brain as you might be thinking you are actually eating seafood. The dressing was sweet yet tangy and complimented very well with the mixed greens presented. Porkchop (4/5) - well cooked, perfectly seasoned, loved the pairing with the classic stone fruit (pear in this case). The mash was nice and buttery. A good main, even for sharing. Kombucha sorbet (5/5) - FANTASTIC. super refreshing and a great way to finish off your meal before digging into a dessert. Or even have it as a dessert to cleanse your palate. Was not overly sour nor was it sweet, just perfect and not overly fermented as some kombuchas would give off. Burnt cheesecake (3/5) - this one was nothing too out of the ordinary. Good piece of cheesecake but I dont think I would go back for it and instead try other specialties. Paired nicely with the berry compote. Overall, would love to go back. They also have brunch and I would really want to try it. Everything is presented so beautifully that it is definitely worth a try when in PEC.

Yelp
My friend and I stumbled on this place last night because it was one of the only restaurants still open at 6:30 on a Saturday night. They had ample parking, a beautiful terrace full of flowers and a scrumptious menu! And they sat us immediately without a reservation. We both tried a "flight" of oysters to start. One each from New Brunswick , Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia. Nb was my favourite, the flavour so subtle and fresh. My friend had the burger and I had the charred bass. What a great experience! There were almost no bones and my server instructed me how to avoid the few that were there. The texture was buttery and it was served with dollops of artichoke purée and two russ as Ted artichoke hearts. Light and scrumptious. Our server was personable, knowledgeable and bilingual, also hailing from New Brunswick. She charmingly helped us navigate the wine list and checked on us periodically. My favourite part of the evening was devouring the peach cobbler-made with fresh peaches from Niagara- with some decaf coffee and sparkling lights in the garden. It was a perfect evening with my friend as we embark on our discovery of Prince Edward county.

Yelp
Disappointed by management and oyster/seafood platter. We decided to have dinner at Flame+Smith after reading such great reviews about the restaurant. We verified on the website to see if we needed a reservation, however we couldn't find that information so we decided to call them in the afternoon. The person who answered the phone said: We do not take any reservations, if you come around 7:30 pm there should be an hour wait time. Please come before 9:30 pm as it is our last call. We arrived at 7:31 pm, expecting an hour wait time. The person(maybe owner/ manager) came to see us and told us they are full for tonight. They do not have any tables free. We explained to them that we did call prior to coming and was expected a wait time. The person insisted that he did not say that and would not accept more tables because they claim to close 8 pm. This reaction made us feel uncomfortable as they seemed they were calling us liars... we decided to walk away and try to see if we could get a table at the restaurant Sand & Pearl. As we walked away, he came back to us telling us to come and they will prepare a table for us since they initially had a big party coming in later. At this point, we decided to still eat at Flame+Smith, despite how disrespected and disappointed we felt. Here is the order that we made (I had the chance to try everything since my friends knew I was an Yelp Elite and they just wanted to share their plates!): Large Seafood platter 75$ Rating: 1/5 Extremely extremely disappointed. Keep in mind that this was the second item listed on their menu and is considered as an highlight. This came with 4 of each Oysters, albacore tuna ceviche, cold smoked Atlantic salmon, Alaskan crab claws, Patagonian shrimp, octopus, garnishes. First of all, the octopus was MISSING. I only realized while I am writing this review. The oysters were ok, HOWEVER, they were not clean. There were sand inside and seaweed on the outside. For an appetizer of 75$, I would expect this restaurant to have done the minimum of a proper cleaning process. (Please view picture for reference) The Alaskan crab claws tasted like frozen pieces of crabs from the grocery store. The taste of the mussels were equivalent to what you can get from the Cover Leaf smoked mussels. As for the ceviche, it is cut into sashimi thick pieces. They were not marinated long enough and did taste like frozen fish. The smoked salmon was good and the only item that I was not disappointed about on this platter. I raised my concerns of the oyster to the waitress by saying: I was wondering if it was normal or a mistake to see that the oysters were not clean? Because I've never had oyster with seaweed attached to them. The waitress said oh ok. I kind of expected a: I'm really sorry, I will take it to my kitchen and give the feedback. We are sorry for this situation. She did come back with 4 extra crab claws on the house but at this point, I didn't know what to expect anymore from this restaurant. ------------------------------ Zucchini soup: 14$ Rating: 4/5 I did not have the chance to taste this but my friends did agreed that it was quite delicious. The bread that came with it was very dense and hard to chew. ------------------------------ Burgundy escargot: 16$ Rating: 2/5 Same again, the grilled baguette were hard to bite and chew on. The taste of this dish was missing some flavour. ------------------------------ MAINS Steak+frites: 31$ Rating: 4/5 The steak was good, it was a simple and classic item that we can find in many restaurants. The rosemary + thyme aioli was the perfect combination to the fries. ------------------------------ Piri piri chicken supreme: 27$ Rating: 2/5 Beautiful presentation. Extremely dry chicken. ------------------------------ Icelandic cod a la plancha: 32$ Rating: 4/5 Gorgeous presentation and experience. This dish was tasty and the cod was cooked to perfection. ------------------------------ CONCLUSION I was honestly disappointed to have even step foot in this restaurant. I am glad that they tried to arrange a table for us but my experience with the greetings from the first staff to the seafood platter was not acceptable. For the price we paid, we would expect a great service and delicious food. There were so many disappointments and we did not even receive an apology. Yes we got a complimentary plate of crab claws, but in a classy restaurant like this, I would expect the manager to come and apologize. The seafood platter should be an item to remove off of their menu and should not even be served. I do not recommend this restaurant and will not be going back.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite restaurants to go to in PEC. The food is mouthwatering as is the presentation. I love the laidback, yet stylishly chic decor. The staff are very attentive, friendly and professional. This keeps me going to this restaurant over and over.

Yelp
- the music was classic indie dreams - yeasayer, Thom York, Metronomy, animal collective, foxygen - great date night spot - definitely a higher price point - attire you think would be business casual to dressy but people were in jeans and hoodies - good mix of locals and visitors - Good variety of cocktails, wine and beer - local focus - Decor like a Scandinavian modern farmhouse - they bake fresh breads that you can also purchase - I ordered the the tuna ceviche but was told it was going to be shrimp instead. If was okay but I would have preferred tuna - my friend had the pork chop and said it was really good - service was good - we were there a Monday around 5pm - nonissue getting a table - for warmer days they have a nice patio

Yelp
Amazing food and service. We couldn't decide what to order and got the chef's menu, which is shared family-style. Warning: this is a LOT of food!! But it gave us a chance to sample a wide range of dishes without the trouble of deciding what to order. Some notable items: BREAD: fresh from their wood fired oven -- sooo good SHISHITO PEPPERS: be VERY careful -- the hot ones are VERY hot, much hotter than the shishito peppers we usually get from the grocery store MUSHROOM SALAD: a tasty variety of local mushrooms, including lion's mane STEAK: Steak and radicchio were grilled to perfection! You can taste the smokiness from the wood fired oven. LEMON TART: the candied violets were an unexpectedly delightful touch. The tart was my favourite out of all these delicious dishes! And to top it all off, the service was impeccable.

Yelp
We recently dined here on a busy Saturday night, luckily there are two fire pits out front where you can enjoy a cocktail while waiting for your table. Everything was outstanding! We started with oysters and shared the bone-in rib eye steak (cooked to perfection) in addition to fries with herb aioli and wood fired cauliflower, and the beet salad. Food was great, service was excellent. Apparently there was a chef's tasting menu but server did not offer it - may have been due to how busy they were. Will definitely make a point of eating here next time I am in the county

Yelp
Great spot!! Located in beautiful Bloomfield. First off, the decor was phenomenal. Ecclectic and cozy. It was very interesting inside. Lots to look at. A big rack with the different woods they use to cook labelled, you can see the chefs cooking and baking everything, the bar is bright and beautiful!! Our seats were comfy and our table of 6 could converse easily. It was busy at lunch, but we were served promptly and the waitress was friendly. There are some really cool cocktails and beers on the menu. It looks like they know their local wines and beers!! I had the grapefruit/gin drink. It was great but a little small. The menu was awesome and I wanted to try everything. I ended up having the burger because the softshell crav po boy was out of stock. I got to see the Rock fish and the falafel as well. A couple at our table had the chicken which was substitute for the po boy. Everyone ate everything on their plates. Three of us were greedy and got desserts. I tried the lemon tart, the blueberry cheesecake and personally I got the rhubarb sorbet. Amazing spot. Would definitely return. Overall the perfect spot for my 31st birthday!!!

Yelp
Dined here on our last night visiting PEC. We rented a cottage nearby and should have looked up restaurants prior to heading there. A lot of restaurants were still closed or not open during the days we were visiting. The food and service was great! This is exactly the type of restaurant I like dining in. Everything is house made and unique. If we could order everything tapas style, we would have!

Yelp
I'm not sure why the Yelp business page says that Flame+Smith doesn't take reservations, because they do through OpenTable. This was actually a huge help for me and my husband, since we were traveling from the U.S. and our phones didn't have service in Prince Edward County, but we could make online reservations when we had wifi. Most PEC restaurants only seem to take phone reservations. Flame+Smith is a beautiful space, and all the staff members we interacted with were very pleasant. We chose to sit inside since it was hot out and the patio was quite sunny. We and our clothes did smell a bit smoky afterwards, but it was a small price to pay for a nice meal. We started with a small order of bread and the gardener's pickles. I thought the bread would come warm, since the restaurant is all about wood fire, but it wasn't, though it was still good--two types of bread and some crispy breadsticks. We especially liked the gardener's pickles, which was a nice variety of vegetables, including beets, cauliflower, radish, and cucumber. I'm a vegetarian, so I opted for the one vegetarian-friendly big plate, the vegetable tart, which is puff pastry topped with an assortment of roasted vegetables and cheese. My husband had the rainbow trout. The menu description for the trout lists almond, and he's allergic to nuts, but our server said it wouldn't be an issue for them to leave the almond out. He enjoyed his dish. For dessert, we shared the lemon tart for two, which wasn't huge, but perfect for us since we were reasonably full, but just wanted a little something sweet. Since the veg options here are limited, I probably wouldn't dine here again. But for a one-time nice dinner, we were pleased with our choice to come here.

Yelp
This is a new restaurant just opened two weeks ago. We saw this place with a nice patio on our way to our B&B yesterday. We decided to try it for our dinner and we are not disappointed at all. Their menu is not huge but good enough options to choose from. Four of us ordered 4 different main courses to try, and they were all nicely made and presented. Even the desserts were good. Both exterior and interior of the restaurant look pretty, modern and neat. There is an indoor bar area too. Chilling at their nice patio is absolutely enjoyable. The price is on a reasonable pricy side. However, the food is mostly made out of wood fire. You can smell yummy smoke from the wood fire if you sit inside. The woodfire cooking does make this restaurant one of a kind.

Yelp
There is nothing bad to say about this place. Amazing service, menu, wine list, vibe, patio... Will always come back.

Yelp
Delicious! Delicious! Delicious! I really enjoyed my dinner experience here. We ordered pork chop, cheeseburger, house bread and pepper. Everything was delicious and you can tell a lot of care and effort was placed into making the food. Everything was so delicious, we had to get dessert just to see if everything was truly that good. Dessert is something we normally skip. We ordered lemon tart and cherry ice cream, it was soooo good and delicious! I recommend making reservation if you are in the area. I wish I lived closer!!!

Yelp
This restaurant is extraordinary. We had an impeccable meal with perfect service. The staff is kind and friendly and certainly knowledgeable. The space itself is beautiful and original. It's a real pleasure to be there. The food is so beautifully done. Every dish the three of us ordered was absolutely delicious. We were recommended to go here by a local who said if she only had one night to eat in the area she'd eat here. We were so grateful for the recommendation. Don't hesitate. It's wonderful.

Yelp
Great new spot with excellent vegetarian options and lots of seating! I was with 3 meat eaters and they were very well taken care of, but will focus on the veg options since those reviews are usually harder to find. To start, I had the cucumber & green goddess (listed as a 'snack') which was very refreshing, served over ice like oysters. The bread was good, but not warm, which is a bit disappointing since it is oven baked. For my main, I had a delicious tart with gruyere, Jerusalem artichokes, and other summer veggies. The pastry was flaky and crisp, and it made for a rich and filling vegetarian main. As a side, I got the flame roasted radicchio. Drizzled with honey and chestnuts, it was a delicious balance of bitter, sweet and smoky. Dessert was a lemon tart (YUMMM) and the sundae with caramel corn and pecans - both were delicious and we covered our sweet and sour dessert needs Other things to appreciate: Service was good, the tables aren't crowded together, the music was great, and love the design. This would be a good place for a big group, so will definitely be back!

Yelp
Was there for the family & friends evening before the official opening this weekend. The food was excellent as was the service. Love that locally sourced produce is being used. The BC rock fish was cooked perfectly. All food is prepared in a wood-fired kitchen so you get that taste and smell you can't get from a gas stove or oven. We will definitely be back when in the area. Chef Hidde Zomer and Sarah have hit a home run.

Yelp
Our experience here was really weird. The food was excellent, but the service was some of the worst I've ever had. We sat to eat at the bar; it was very busy, so no tables were available. Generally, I love sitting at the bar, but for some reason it seemed like no waiter in particular was in charge of where we were sitting, though people on either side of us seemed to have good & attentive service. Drinks came pretty quickly, and were good, as did our basket of bread (really delicious), but putting in our order for mains took a while. When the mains arrived, we had no cutlery or napkins. Eventually cutlery appeared, but though the woman bringing it had napkins, she didn't give us any. And since no one checked in to see if our food was good or if we needed anything else, we didn't get a chance to ask for them. I tried to catch someone's eye - the guy who took our order seemed to be avoiding us, and I couldn't make eye contact with him. At the end of the meal, after our plates were cleared away, we were asked if we wanted anything else, and we said no, just the bill. At which point the bill appeared with an alacrity that made us feel like they wanted us gone, even though two of us were still finishing our drinks and it seemed like the rush was over. The food, however, was excellent- the sea bass with toasted almonds and fresh mint was soooo delicious, and the heirloom tomato starter and corn were amazing. The vegetable tart was underwhelming, and whatever else we had was fine. If the service had been standard good service, I'd have no problem giving this restaurant five stars, but they made us feel like they didn't want us there, which made the whole experience really uncomfortable. I've rarely had an experience like this, and kept wondering if we had done something to upset or annoy the staff. I couldn't think of anything. I don't want waiters to bend over backwards, but to sit there feeling like we were an inconvenience that they wanted gone was pretty shitty and really undermined all of the other good things about the restaurant.

Yelp
Our fav spot in the county. We had an amazing meal after the December 2020 lockdown. Every dish was well balanced and interesting. The suggested wine pairings were spot on. I appreciate the staff efforts for a safe dining experience and the restaurant rolling with the ever changing rules of when and how they can operate.

Yelp
This new spot is beautiful and modern. The service is outstanding, staff are welcoming and super professional. Place is quite family friendly. Likely worth making a reservation as they are quite busy. Found the food to be nice although yes it is a little on the pricey side and didn't quite stand out to me. The vegetable tart is delicious and their side of smashed potatoes is yummy. I also so enjoyed this cute little cow shaped creamer that came with my coffee Very much worth checking out.

Yelp
This was our first 'good' restaurant meal in more than a year, and we weren't disappointed. The food, as we had heard and were expecting, was delicious and perfect. The service was attentive, personal but not intrusive. The staff were wonderful. The ambiance was, again, what we had hoped for - sitting where we could see the kitchen in action. The best part was how safe we felt, seating (by law, I know) not close to other tables, staff all wearing masks and ensuring guests respected social distancing, cleansing protocols in place. Thank you, and I'm so happy this restaurant has landed on the County.

Yelp
We went on a Saturday evening on Labor Day weekend. No reservations were being taken so we just risked it and showed up. About two more groups of people arrived and had their name placed on the list and then all others were turned away as they couldn't ensure they would be seated that evening. We were told 90 minutes, but got seated in less than 30 at the bar. We had drinks, I had not your da/ rye and ginger, and my husband had a Manhattan. For our main we had the biggest steak you could get basically and shared it. I think it was 32 oz but had a large bone. It wasn't on the menu, but the person who seated us told us it was a special they had that day. They hung it above the fire all being to smoke it and bring it to temperature. They didn't ask how we wanted it cooked.. which was fine as it was a perfect medium rare. Which is what we would have wanted. It came in a pan, with juices, and a compound butter. For our sides we had a tomato salad, all of which was so delicious. Also had their fries. Again, delicious. They have a pretty good wine list which our first server said he would help us choose one to accompany our epic piece of meat. The only thing I will say that's negative is that we had some shift in servers and the second one didn't give any advice or recommendations at all. Even when asked. Everyone else was so lovely though. Really enjoyed my time here. I would come back, and would recommend to anyone.

Yelp
We lived in the PEC area for over two years and this was our most magical date night ever. It is rare that every single item, drink, and interaction is flawless, but this was one of those occasions. I wish I could remember the name of the cocktail my boyfriend ordered, but it was the perfect mix of scotch and sweet. Our apps, the sourdough and burrata, were to die for. He had the lobster and steak special, and I had the steak frites. Both beautifully done. By the time we were having dessert, fireflies were out in the bushes nearby. I am not joking, it was our most wonderful date night, and after on and off lockdowns, it meant the world to me. Wonderful place, stunning food, great service. Recommended without hesitation.

Yelp
Pretentious but the food is above average. Eat here if you are in the area. However the service does not meet the quality of food. Don't get me wrong. People are nice. Just they don't get out much and see what a quality restaurant service is like. I am sure they will get better. Congrats to the chef.

Yelp
The reviews are outstanding and we were finally able to walk in without much of a wait, so we decided to give it a try. The staff is friendly and attentive and the dining room is warm and inviting. The menu is a small one and I was a little disappointed by the choices seeing as they are known for putting food on a live flame. Most of what was on the current menu did not fit in that category, except for the meats. We started off with the Hamachi aguachile starter, which was delicately put together but did not "wow" considering the price. Next we had the steak frites and the lamb kebab. The skirt steak was under seasoned and slightly rubbery. It did not seem to have been marinated or tenderized enough. The frites looked/tasted like fries from any of the popular fast food joints; really nothing special. The ground lamb kebab was served on a flatbread and was very flavourful, but overall we found everything to be way overpriced. I would call this elevated pub grub rather than fine dining, so I give it three stars as the price tag is definitely not worth it at an average of $40 a plate. We do not plan on returning but would not discourage someone from dining here if they don't mind paying a lot for very average food.

Yelp
The restaurant is quite lovely! We had oysters and the chicken livers for appetizers (both were divine) and shared a porterhouse steak for two (which was very flavourful but a little tough). Our desserts and drinks were also fantastic. My only complaint- the acoustics. It felt like I was yelling across the table at my dinner companion. Further, the tables were placed so close together that I could hear the people beside me at the other tables better than the person across the table from me. They seem to have a quiet little section to the right once you enter the place but they didn't offer us a table there. It's too bad. It likely would have been a better evening if they did.

Yelp
This restaurant is an absolute must if you are in PEC. We had the chef's special, everything we tried was absolutely amazing. The staff was also incredibly accommodating...Five Star experience.

Yelp
We were up in Prince Edward County recently for the day from Toronto and went to Flame + Smith for dinner and were totally surprised by this new restaurant. There are some great restaurants in The County but this blew our expectations completely out of the water! The food was incredible.... I mean, even down to the house-made butter. Everything we ate was fantastic and there's no way we'll visit PEC and not go here. I don't think they're open for lunch yet (as they just opened) but seriously hope so. I couldn't imagine the drive back to the city without their cheeseburger and smashed potatoes in my stomach. I think this is going to be one of those destination restaurants that you have to go to when in The County. I highly recommend this place!

Yelp
My girlfriend and I were on vacation in Wellington and found this place near the inn we were staying at. This was my favorite meal on my trip. The interior is really inviting and the wood stove makes everything smell like the woods or camp or some smells that reminds me of when I am relaxing. We ordered oysters, we ate oysters at almost every meal during our vacation, these were the best. We also got the shishito peppers and I had the trout. Everything tasted fresh, thoughtful, and interesting. The service was wonderful, and watching the open concept kitchen in the back you can see that all the staff work seamlessly together. I could not recommend this place more.

Yelp
Amazing food, amazing above and beyond service. We tried to make a reservation online but they were full. We called just to see if they could fit us, and they gave us a weather dependent reservation on the patio. Lucky for us, it was a beautiful night and the terrace is ideal! Our table wasn't ready when we arrived (group before us had paid, but were just hanging out). We were offered drinks while we waited, and many staff members checked on us, apologized. It wasn't even that long of a wait and it was so worth it because the Chef menu was to die for. Especially the beet salad, ceviche, and tomahawk steak cooked to perfection. It was so much food too! All 6 of us were full and rated everything 5/5. And the servers gave us great recommendations for the rest of our trip that we would have never known about and they truly made our vacation! You can tell this place is run with care and love. We will be back next time we are in PEC.

Yelp
Fantastic Food. Awful service (or lack there of) My wife and I went there for our fifth anniversary. We made a reservation a few days ahead. The table they sat us at... was basically right by the door. Not great. However they did give us the option to sit us 'closer to the action and other people' which is nice. I think they should have gone with that first. I say that in hindsight because our server (also the bartender) was non existent. He took our drink and appetizer order fairly quickly. Brought our drinks. Then we didn't see him again for what seemed like half an hour. Gave us time to eat, don't get me wrong... but we would have liked to have placed our dinner order. Our water also depleted and no one picked up on that. We eventually put our dirty dishes on a nearby table and eventually he came over to take our order. Now... the food was GREAT. Innovative and delicious. We both got the burger and it was one of the best I've ever had. So my compliments to the chef and the kitchen team. However, not once did the server come back to see how things are, or check that everything was ok. He basically did nothing. And I felt our tip was pretty generous considering. So much like another reviewer had posted... don't sit near the bar. It may be the same guy, because he clearly didn't pay attention to his guests (considering how few people were in the restaurant that late, I REALLY don't understand it. But the food is stellar!

Yelp
I was really excited to try this restaurant and had to book my reservation three weeks in advance because of it's popularity, so the expectations were very high going in. Everything started out great, my cousin and I were seated immediately when we walked in the door and we were greeted by the manager and bartender as we sat down. The appetizers we got were amazing. My cousin got the oysters and I got the shrimp cocktail which came with a delicious bourbon cocktail sauce. We also got a great recommendation for a bottle of wine which was at the mid point price range for a bottle on their menu ($99) but we both very much enjoyed it and found that to be worth the price. It was when we received our entrees that everything seemed to go down hill. We both ordered the steak and frites which would have paired well with our red wine; however, both steaks came out with a ridiculous amount of extra virgin olive oil on it, that I learned they drizzle over it after cooking and my steak came out rare (I ordered it medium rare). The steak was not seasoned prior to cooking it and was only topped with some salt and butter when served. How does a well known, quality restaurant not season a steak before cooking, and why on earth would you drizzle oil on it after?! Anyone who knows how to cook a really good steak knows that you should ALWAYS season a steak heavily prior to cooking. Anyways...the manager did his best to rectify the situation by bringing me another steak. This time I asked for them not to top it with olive oil on it and if they weren't going to season it to bring me salt and pepper. The steak came out medium on one end and rare on the other, and when I told the manager the cook still wasn't right he tried to blame it on the lighting. There is clearly a different texture to a steak between medium, medium rare and rare! So the fact he blamed it on the lighting was a little insulting to my intelligence. However, the manager still tried to save the experience by bringing out a cheesecake on the house, which we didn't really want, but my cousin owns her own bakery so we figured we'd give it a try. It came out burnt and tasting like eggs!! My cousin and I literally had a laugh because we told the manager before he brought it out that she owns her own bakery and makes cheesecakes almost daily. Lastly, I ended up paying for my poorly executed steak despite it being bland and undercooked and to top it all off whilst I was checking out the manager literally stood over my shoulder as I was paying, which It made me very uncomfortable and I fount it to be very unprofessional. Mind you he did not do this while my cousin was paying. Needless to say it was a huge let down to wait three weeks for a $200+ dinner that was incredibly below standard. I've thought about giving it another chance, however how I was treated when it came to the cook of the steak and paying, I probably will not go back.

Yelp
My newlywed wife and I came here for our finale honeymoon dinner and were absolutely delighted with the entire experience. The food was amazing, we both had the burger and immediately told each other it was the best burger we have ever eaten in our lives. Cooked medium rare to perfection with a unique wood fired taste that I cant find words to describe. The potatoes were crispy and done to perfection with an absolutely delicious special sauce that really set them off. We also tried the Mexican corn on the cob which was to die for. The mixture of feta, spices, corn nuts and the corn itself was an incredible ride of deliciousness. The service was extremely prompt and inviting. We will for sure be coming back next time we are even near the area. Best restaurant experience of our lives!

Yelp
Went here on a little getaway weekend with my H. Service was great and the vibe was fun and modern. We shared the charcuterie platter which was delicious especially the liver mousse. Veggie tart was also good. My H had the sea bass and was also very impressed. Good portions unlike some other places in the county (we aren't looking to pig out but we definitely felt like some places were very pricey for what you got. I would definitely recommend this spot!!

Yelp
Friendly staff, amazing ingredients and delicious foods made our night. The lingering smell of roasted herbs in the air was perfect for this winter season.

Yelp
Here is a copy of my email to the restaurant. They did not respond to me. Read this before you go, it might avoid disappointment. Hi there, Our dining experience at your restaurant last night was a total disaster. Our server Sam was great The wine was great. The service by the kitchen was completely SUB standard. Yes, we are the couple who left after waiting for our main course (ordered 50+ minutes earlier) only to be told that the kitchen has miscounted and my chicken dish was sold out...and well...our apologies but what would I like instead. No menu offered to chose something else, no sorry we will comp. your appetizer ... just what else do you want and well these things happen...and quote "what do you want me to do?". I had ordered my main close to an hour before , and NOW you are telling me you are sold out. Ok, so no menu available to me.. I needed an immediate decision. I ordered the steak like my husband. Frankly it was the only thing I remembered off the menu. My concern was my husbands food was ready. What would happen to his food? My husbands steak would be allowed to rest ...Ok so I guessed mine would be quickly out to me. No I was wrong again.... More than minutes 15 minutes later, and there was no sign of any of our entrees. Sure the streak can rest while they cook mine...but for more than 15 minutes? this is a steak not a roast beef. So we paid up and left to eat elsewhere. Your maître D did not offer us anything to take the sting away of such bad service. Poor judgment, he missed an excellent opportunity to change a bad experience into something better. Thought you should know this. We will not be back. Sincerely Jennifer

Yelp
My partner and I were visiting PEC for the first time for a weekend getaway. I ordered the PEC Platter of seafood and came down with food poisoning shortly after - definitely not a great way to start our vacation! I understand that this is a risk when ordering seafood, but since this is an upscale restaurant I assumed it would be safe. The experience at the restaurant itself was alright - we ordered the PEC Platter, the steak, and a lemon tart to finish. The space itself is nicely decorated and has good ambiance, but the service was pretty awkward - the steak came out a good 15 minutes before the PEC platter, despite the fact that the steak was from the kitchen and the PEC platter was from behind the bar. There seemed to be tons of staff milling around with not much to do. However, the lemon tart was amazing and one of the best I've ever had. Overall I would have been willing to look over the awkward service, but the food poisoning was a major issue and put a damper on our visit to the county.
