"In 2002 designer and proprietress, Jessika Goranson, took her love for fashion and design and opened up the charming boutique we know as Holiday. This boutique carries small fashion brands such as Ecru, Kopal, Julie Brown, and of course Jessika's own designs under the Holiday label. Every single corner of that store has personality." - JSGD

The employees at this store are so thoughtful! When they sold out of a stuffed animal I was trying to get for a christmas present they said they would let me know if it came back in stock. A few days later someone took the time to text me and let me know that they had one I could come pick up! Love this place - great customer service.

Great little gift shop that's been a staple in the area for over 20yrs with a wide variety of fun and unique gifts to satisfy even the pickiest customer. Probably the friendliest and most helpful staff you will meet as well.

Yelp
I have frequently popped into Flat of the Hill in the 4+ years I've been living in Beacon Hill and they always have cute gifts - everything from Mariposa gifts to Lilly Pulitzer wrapping paper. They also have an amazing handbag selection full of Kooba, Botkier, Lauren Merkin, Rebecca Minkoff and MZ Wallace. I highly, highly recommend signing up for their email list and/or liking them on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/pages/flat-of-the-hill/129211471733). They send out updates for their bag sales and just two weeks ago they had a massive sale. I got the email and ran down to the store to snap a bag up before the good ones were gone. I ended up with a fabulous Kooba bag for 75% off!

Yelp
My favorite shop in Beacon Hill! They always have nice quality gifts and souvenirs from Boston. The shop owners are helpful and friendly. Come back every few months to see what they have that's new. Great shop!

Yelp
In reality, no one really needs anything in this boutique but it turns out to be pleasurable to go browsing in here every now and again. . I've found an occasional gift specificially for those friends who have everything (which is just about all of them) and who would enjoy something unexpected but still squeal-inducing like a lusciously fragranced soy candle in a pretty glass. Or an interesting photo frame or a pair of sparkly earrings or a luxurious lotion. It's also a place to buy a little something to give out of the blue to someone just to say I'm thinking of you. Those are my favorite kind of gifts to give. Yesterday I spotted wooden wing-tip shoe paperweights that I found oddly captivating. So very Mad Men-esque! I also found a fun butterfly ring that a cousin of mine might like who is in what I'm calling her lepidopterist phase. Don't miss out the chance to ogle their assortment of designer handbags including those by MZ Wallace that I love, many in colorful non-leather materials....(note to self: you can buy a gift just for you here too). They are pricey although there are occasional sales, one of which I apparently just missed. There is currently a fetching red clutch on display that I would have gotten if I were a clutch bag type of gal. I do aspire to be someone who sports about town with a kicky little clutch. But I don't seem to have the gift of "traveling lightly" even if I'm just traveling down the street. The now ubiquitous pieces of Mariposa tableware and serveware can be found here too along with other assorted home decor items that would make for nifty housewarming or shower gifts. You can find assorted hand lotions and colognes. Of course, I always have to try out two or three of those and invariably I leave the store reeking as I did yesterday of too many conflicting scents. The prices are higher than they might be for the same items elsewhere and here again is one of the most annoying banes of Beacon Hill shopping. (The other can be less than inviting shopkeepers in one too many places.) And alas this leads me to a complaint about this place. As tiny as this store is, where no one can go unseen, the people who work there (yesterday there were two) have never, ever greeted or acknowledged me. They're not necessarily unfriendly, they just don't seem to care if you're there or not. A customer service brush-up course is in order, pronto. Small though it may be in here it's full of things nicely arranged for your viewing pleasure. Just don't go and get your feelings hurt when no one says hello.

Yelp
really cute stuff - great for hostess gifts and the home. pillows, signs and lots of Mariposa. Very nice staff too

Yelp
I have been here twice now, both times to buy gifts for friends. They have a really great selection of fun and off-the-beaten path stuff. Whoever buys for the store really does a great job. My only complaint is that both times I have been there, the woman who was working was not exactly pleasant. The first time, she was arguing with someone, speaking very loudly on the phone, and not making it a secret that she was extremely annoyed with another woman (who wasn't there) who works at the store. None of this really had anything to do with me, but it did take away from the experience a little (and I have to admit, when I went back today, I was hoping she wouldn't be there--she scares me a little). That aside, the store is great and although a bit pricey, they do have a wide variety of things, so it's not hard to find a gift at a reasonable price. I had to restrain myself from buying a couple presents for me too!

Brittany C.

Yelp
The ultimate girly tchotchke store. Prices widely vary, from $500 handbags to a $7.50 little sign you can put in your kitchen. The buyer for the store is really great...regardless of the price, everywhere you look your inner materialistic whore screams, "but I NEED it!" and sometimes you have to give in and obey. But hopefully not always on the $500 handbag! I also really like the monogrammed jewelry. After searching online to see if Flat of the Hill's prices were fair, I discovered their prices were actually very reasonable. $30 for a sterling silver necklace that will remind me and everyone of my initials? Sign me up.

Yelp
Reason's to go to Beacon Hill on a Saturday afternoon: 1. Mani/pedi at Lauren's Nails with best friend. Check. 2. Lunch after at Paramount. Check. 3. Find a place to buy an overpriced Easter gift for the woman who has everything (a.k.a. my future mother-in-law). Check. This place sells all of those overpriced, adorable kinds of things that I would never buy for myself (and people who know me would probably never buy me anything from here either). But the coasters with the hand-painted Boston scenes went over quite well with the gift recipient, who also happens to be a new Boston transplant.

Yelp
I love little shops on Charles Street, and the Flat of the Hill is a new favorite. They have tons of cute stuff that would make a perfect for gift for any woman you know - bags, jewelry, perfume, decorations, lotions, etc. Give yourself time to browse here, they have a lot of merchandise in a small area. I purchased one of the silver rings in the back and had it monogrammed. It was quick and easy to do, and the ring came in very very fast!

Yelp
Freakin' obsessed. In fact, it's painful to go in because I know I'll want damn near everything. Some of it is affordable, some not so much at all. Definitely a place to pick up a gift for any number of occasions: weddings, house warming, birthday, etc. Lots of home decor items that appeal to beachy homes. Lots of cookbooks. Lots of girly, knick-knacky things. Jewelry, things that smell sweet, purses. There is tons of merchandise there, don't forget to look up high as well. Generally, a lot of things that would make my home feel a bit more grown-up. When my wallet gets grown-up, I plan to spend more time inside.

Jeanniffer P.

Yelp
I love the store, the employees are generous and the store itself have a lot of gorgeous items. Overall the store. I will come back there soon.

Nicole H.

Yelp
One of my favorite little boutiques in Beacon Hill. Anytime I need a gift for a girlfriend or any of the (many) women in my family, I head here. Or really, even if there's no reason or person to buy for, I'll head here. They've got bags, they've got books, they've got jewels, they've got soaps, they've got all kinds of cute stuff to check out. I swear, they make use of every inch of the store, which makes it fun if you don't have anything specific to get and you're just browsing around.

Sarah A.

Yelp
Interesting store that is very fun to browse. As other reviewers have described, it has a pretty preppy theme. There's lots of nautical stuff and many things to outfit your summer place on Nantucket. The thing that I find amusing about this store is that some items are reasonably priced and others are super expensive. Often, there is no way of knowing before you pick up the item, check out the price tag and either say to yourself "cool" or "WTF, who would spend this much money on this thing?" Excellent place to stop in to buy gifts.

Ali B.

Yelp
This store has cute gifts, but the customer service is horrible. I have gone into the store several times and I am lucky if I get a hello. Cute products, but very unimpressed with the service.

Jen R.

Yelp
My favorite part about this store is all the stuff they have in a small place. I also love going in here, trying on the lotions and smiling about the fragrence all day and inevitably, purchasing the lotion. They also have a lot of gifts and linens. Some of their items are expensive, but we are in Beacon Hill, after all.

Seth P.

Yelp
It's a nice little gift store. My favorite is the large plastic dogs. The entire theme of the store is a little bit girly for me, but the product range is interesting and the prices reasonable.

Arestia R.

Yelp
Flat of the Hill exists to excite my WASPy senses. Barefoot Contessa books? Nautical home pieces? Precious pillows? Gingham everything?! It's just such a cute store and I almost always see something that would be great for a gift or shelve it in the "must have, but cannot afford" category. It's not all unaffordable, but it's a crap shoot on when I turn over that plate if it's going to be $28 or $128 dollars. My roommates and I did find these GREAT wall stickers there that are now affixed to our living room wall. We always get a lot of compliments on them, courtesy of Flat of the Hill. I can't help it; the place draws me in!

Meghan R.

Yelp
Cute stuff if you're shopping for hostess gifts, presents for bridesmaids, or a last-minute something for your mom. Is that a weird list of occasions? I don't know why, but it seems to fit. Very cute things, but a lot of knick-knacky type stuff. Things you might want, nothing you need, you know? That being said, they have a deliiiiicious smelling perfume that I'm trying to convince myself that I don't need. So maybe my review is totally wrong? Maybe it SEEMS like a bunch of unnecessaries but is ACTUALLY a store full of must-haves?! Does that mean it's okay for me to get the perfume? I think it does. Smell me. I smell amazing.

Sarah S.

Yelp
I love this store! have anything from pillows with cute sayings, deliciously scented candles, striped paper straws, and wooden signs with quotes written on them. They have nautical jewelry, bauble necklaces, bangles, and lots of decently priced earrings. They also have more expensive, delicate jewelry :) Great selection.

Em V.

Yelp
I stopped into Flat of the Hill last night for the Beacon Hill Christmas Stroll and was pleasantly surprised to find this cute shop so affordable! Great jewelry, bags, candles, and other home goods for reasonable prices (especially for Charles Street). I'll be back for more jewelry!

Katie W.

Yelp
Perfect place if you are in need of a housewarming, hostess, girlfriend or sister gift. They carry Mariposa which I love, and always a safe bet for when your buying a little something for someone special. Their hour's are tough, closed Monday's but otherwise a great spot to pop in and pick up a last minute gift. Great bags, Lilly accessories, and a great selection of cookbooks.

Meg N.

Yelp
Definitely the right store to check out if you are looking for a housewarming or girly gift or a little pick-me-up. They have a great selection of items (candles, purses, jewelry, platters, napkin holders, frames, pillows, etc) and you'll definitely be able to find the perfect thing for someone (or yourself...always an option that I take advantage of on my birthday...at holidays...half birthdays...random mondays). Their handbag sales are a definite must-visit. The only negative would be that after making a purchase you seem to leave with the floor model...it would be a plus if they would check in the back for a fresh whatever you are buying, especially on the more expensive items. Also, depending on the sales person (as others have mentioned) the service can range from ok to absolutely fabulous.

Christina G.

Yelp
This is one little shop you don't want to miss if you are on Charles Street. It has a little bit of everything and a little something for everyone. The prices range depending on what you are looking to buy, and there are a lot of interesting items you don't see everywhere. It's one of the few shops on the street where you can walk out with something really special, without spending a ton, unless you want to of course!

Anne B.

Yelp
Anybody girl that like girly shopping would like this store. They do really only have women's accesories, but they have excellent quality stuff. They do not really have anything mainstream (like Louis Vuitton or Coach) they are all unique stuff. They also have belts and earings and stuff, which are also very unique. The hill is a gorgeous place, and this shop is a fun thing to do in that area. The store has excellent service and the girls that work there seem to really enjoy themselves.

Amarar S.

Yelp
This is a great shop for gifts of all kinds. The prices match the neighborhood, but you can find some good deals if you look. I like browsing around & have bought a few handbags & gift items that I did not see in other stores. Definitely worth a visit. I held back one star because it's a little cramped & hard to walk around.

Mandy Z.

Yelp
This is a gem of a store conveniently located on the hill. Having lived in their neighborhood for years, this is one of my go to places for pick me ups for myself and gifts for others. The store is carefully curated to include a wonderful assortment of goodies ranging from jewelry to baby gifts to home gifts to accessories. If your budget is around $30 or under there are cute little things that can be found (Sara Happ lip scrub, little stuffed plush animals for baby, cute earrings, etc) but it is nice to have a somewhat higher budget so you can treat yourself to something Mariposa or MZ Wallace. If you are a member of the Pink List program, they also participate so you can get a slight discount if you bring in your card and ID!

Yelp
I don't even live in Boston and I love this store. A couple of times a year they have amazing handbag sales. I have ordered over the phone on several occasions and have found the staff to be extremely patient and courteous. The store is usually extremely busy during these sales and they will take the time to tell me what bag styles, colors, descriptions of bags are on sale and the price of each. They have always taken the phone orders accurately and have set my expectations on the delivery time. On my last order, the package was not delivered properly by UPS and was thus lost. The store took care of the claim with UPS and refunded my account. They felt horrible that my bags were lost but did everything to make the experience less negative. If I'm ever in Boston I plan to visit the store. I can't say enough wonderful things about the service I've received. They also carry fantastic products!

Megan F.

Yelp
This store has a lot of very cute and trendy items. I have been in there a couple of times while walking on Charles street. I was in there last week and was treated poorly... I asked a question maybe 4 times and they heard me and were looking right at me but were not answering me. I was so mad because they probably assume i wouldn't be purchasing anything but I was going to buy the necklace even if it didn't come in silver but after i was rudely treated I was not about to give them any of my money. If this is how they treat their customers then i do not see how they could possibly make any money. I will never go in this store again or give them any money.

Aubrey M.

Yelp
I purchased two handbags recently (MZ Wallace Kate bags) by phone and the staff was incredibly helpful and very sweet. They took care of all my questions, made the whole process so painless that my wallet is running to hide in case of future splurges, and had the first bag out the same day. I ordered the first bag on a Tuesday, had the bag on Thursday by UPS, boxed and protected with a little freebie or two in there as well. I will absolutely purchase from them again...in fact, the second bag was purchased the next day as a gift because the first time worked out so very well. Thanks FOTH ladies! I LOVE my MZW Kate!

Rosie K.

Yelp
Wonderful treasure in Boston. The staff are all very nice and helpful. I would say Flat of the Hill will always be a stop of mine when I travel to Boston. Also, they are wonderful about shipping items out of state. No matter how busy they have been, the customer service is not to be out done!!

Joyce L.

Yelp
Great place, great assortment of unique gifts, many one of a kind, staff was so helpful!love the girls!

Alexandra K.

Yelp
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! I probably stop by once a week, whether I need a gift or something fun for myself and my apartment, this is my go-to in Boston. They carry a wide variety of brands and items, everything from pillows and candle to chic clutches and fun jewelry. They have the best and biggest Mariposa selections and a great collection of Lauren Merkin handbags as well. They carry plenty of home decor items that are sure to be a memorable and treasures gift for a friend or for yourself. Definitely sign up for their e-mail list and "like" them on Facebook. Their website is still a work in progress but they do an excellent job of posting news and photos to their Facebook page and it's where you can learn about their amazing sales, particularly at the end of the season. If you're looking for something special, this is the place to come and explore - look high, look low, in corners and shelves, there are many treasures to be found!
