I am absolutely torn! The place is unreal! Beautiful! One of a kind! I didn't expect prices starting at $40, but I thought seafood.. Fresh fish, fair enough. . Staff is so nice! And! I have never eaten seafood and fish cooked so well in NZ! But! The portions were so small for the price! All the dishes are around $40-$45.. My cod in bacon was divine and I was happy. But my friend got the scallops and the portion was very TINY (see my photos). And when I saw the portions from previous photos on Google, we were really surprised. Same goes for the Fish of the day and Three fillets. If you look at the photos the portion sizes seem to change. We left disappointed. We all wish to love it but the portions were just "not that generous" as the waiter mentioned.

Me and my wife recently visited Fleurs Place as we were staying locally for one evening. It had been highly recommended by a friend and quite simply it did not disappoint!. I would highly recommend for an incredible experience in an amazing setting and part of New Zealand. The price and taste of the food from start to finish along with some delightful local beer and red wine was outstanding!. Local Cod, with my wife having Clams it was that good we came back for breakfast the following day! The Staff are outstanding, friendly and engaging. What topped it off was the conversations we had with Fleur who was so friendly, hugely attentive for me and my wife to have a delightful experience. It's outstanding to know in this Covid world and the limitations on travel that we get to experience this in our own backyard!

Had the pleasure of a superb lunch a couple of weeks ago on a beautiful winter Sunday. Amazing atmosphere, fantastic service (really friendly staff and fast service even though it was packed) and quite simply the best seafood meal I've ever eaten. So good it's worth flying to Dunedin just to visit Fleur's. The 3 of us shared a fish tasting platter and a whitebait fritter. Out if this world. Cannot wait to go back some time.

My husband came here and couldn’t stop raving about the food. On our road trip we decided to stop here so I could finally sample the menu. Well I was not disappointed, we booked a table a definite must do if you want a seat and to dine here. The chowder was delicious and I would highly recommend the trio of fish was amazing. Fleur was about greeting and chatting and the place had a great atmosphere and great food. Would highly recommend.

This place make you feel like you are visiting close friend. The foods served are fresh and very authentic delicious western recipes dishes. It's definitely not like when you visited modern and commercials restaurant in the city where they place too much on presentation and their taste are fusion- like. But here you find that the foods served are like it was specially prepared for you. We had a wonderful and pleasant experiences and we enjoy every minute of it. Thank you very much for giving us the opportunity to enjoy it.

Absolutely wonderful. Super fish meal, kids had steak and risotto which were also very tasty. Great service, friendly staff, fantastic ambiance and Fleur herself was a joy to chat to. Put this on your itinerary if you love good seafood and wine and, whilst worth it, it's not cheap.

We had been eagerly looking forward to lunch at Fleurs. When we arrived at 12.30, the place was already buzzing with a couple of large groups. We were seated upstairs due to the gloomy grey skies and cold southerlies. We ordered our meals, which arrived in no time at all. The meal was delicious and the service was great. We even got to meet the famous Fleur. The building is fascinating with lots of "graffiti" on the walls, beams, etc, which kinda adds to the character of the place. We enjoyed our time here. PS - the coffee was nice with a smooth taste.

Humble and rustic on the outside, magical and heart warming on the inside. We visited for breakfast which has a separate menu. Our 11yo tried seafood chowder for the first time and loved it! We had blue cod sandwiches and whitebait fritters. Coffee was also great. Fleur was very welcoming, told us a bit of local history. This was one of the best experiences of our holiday.

Yelp
I had been thinking about this amazing restaurant for 7.5 years before I had the opportunity to return, and it was just as delicious, if not more so, as the first time. Fleur's Place is nothing short of awesome. It's off the beaten path in the town of Moeraki, and the last time I was here, I was en route to Dunedin. This time, we stayed nearby, toured Omaru during the day, and then headed to Fleur's Place for dinner. The building itself is very unassuming, but the grounds are beautiful. We were there in April, and there were a ton of flowers blooming, framing a lovely view of the ocean. Inside, all over the walls, there are messages of love written in pen (I'm not kidding), which adds to the vibe of a laid-back, super cool, welcoming kitchen. The food is nothing short of amazing. If you have the ability, get the bacon wrapped cod (it's delightful). We enjoyed a fresh catch of the day - a trio - that was unbelievably fresh. Wine list is impressive. They have cocktails. Dessert was excellent. Do yourself a favor, and come here. Like what many people have said on Yelp, it's a wonderful spot. Fleur is also a fantastic person, and it's obvious that she is respected and loved by her staff. Everyone working there was super kind, very accommodating, and just genuinely good souls. This spot should be at the top of your list for the South Island if you visit.

Yelp
We walked over the hill from our accommodation to this restaurant. It was everything that I had read about, how wonderful. We had the Green Tipped Mussels, Trio of Fillets, Sticky Date Pudding and Chocolate Cake. Big potions (this seems typical of NZ). Appropriate service with menu knowledge. Expensive. Two negatives for me were these type of mussels are big - too much flesh for my liking but I recommend this plate to share. Sticky Date Pudding had to many big chunks of ginger. Now onto the best parts of the evening.... Location of restaurant was amazing, interior seat was so wonderfully comfortable and homey. Fluer (chef and restaurant owner) was there in all her glory. Recommendation - read a bit about Fluer before you take the journey, it makes it so much more fulfilling.

Yelp
Stopped by Fleur's for an early lunch en route from Dunedin to Christchurch. It's a 5km or so detour off the main drag and worth it, to put it mildly. Housed in a ramshackle building on the harbour, first impressions aren't great and completely wrong. Inside is cozy, quirky and comfortable with zero pretensions to 'fine dining'. I had mussels which were the largest I I'd ever seen but also the tastiest. They were sublime. My companions shared a more conventional grouper which, in my opinion, wasn't a patch on my lunch. Having inhaled all the mussel meat, I set about the garlic and cream sauce like a man on a mission. A passing server noted my single-mindedness and offered bread which I accepted without breaking stride. My only regret is not coming here for dinner and eating myself into a coma. Even though it was 'only' a feed of mussels it was one of the all-time best meals. For your own sake go but make a reservation. You'll be missing something special otherwise.

Yelp
Amazing the green lip mussels entree well worth sharing. The bacon wrapped blue cod, was served with freshest of vegetables in an unctuous sauce. Only detraction was a slightly over cooked fish. A wonderful find and worth of a hunt. Call ahead, limited seating.

Yelp
When we decided on travelling to New Zealand, I convinced my husband that we needed to go to Moeraki to eat at Fleurs. I had the whole cod & my husband had the shellfish hot pot. Both very good. The wine pictured is a Blanc de Noir - order it! So glad we came! (By the way Fleur is an absolute delight! - cheers Fleur!)

Yelp
This restaurant was recommended by our air bnb host. We stopped for lunch on our way to Dunedin. A ramshackle salty two story place tucked away in a small harbor town. Wow! What a hidden gem! The food, ambience, and service was excellent. We ordered the bread and spread platter for a starter. Three types of fresh soft baked bread slices, which included four home made creative and flavorful spreads (including olive oil and balsamic). We ordered the fish platter for the main, which included veggies. You are able to pick two of the five dipping sauces for the fish. The five different types of fish was fresh caught local NZ fish. All very mild, non fishy tasting. Thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Highly recommended. You will not be disappointed.

Yelp
Recommended by Alex, our Kiwi Holiday Park host, who even made the reservation for us, this became one of the best eating experiences of our trip to New Zealand. We shared a seafood chowder, then the taster sampler of five different local fish, all excellently prepared and utterly delicious. Crowded and noisy, but no matter when the food is so good.

Yelp
Very fresh fish with good flavor. A little bit expensive but worth. Blue cod and green mussel was very delicious!

Yelp
I've wanted to here for years but a bit of a hike from Auckland. Everything it is cracked up to be with delicious fresh seafood. Also a relatively rare opportunity to try "mutton bird" (a seabird where harvesting rights are very limited). Also great options if fish is not your thing. Throw in the character of the restaurant and unique location next to the fishing boats of Moeraki, plus the boulders further north in the bay, for a great all round experience.

Yelp
Fantastic fresh seafood. We had the 5 fish platter which was exactly as expected, wonderfully fresh nz fish served with two gorgeous sauces - chilli, coriander & coconut and hollandaise with fennel -yum!!! Definitely worth the side trip and stating nearby so we could stagger home.

Yelp
Heard about this restaurant from a friend in the US before we headed to New Zealand. Encouraged us to make it a point to come here if possible. So we did, and wow! What a setting to have such a unique and enjoyable meal. The food was scrumptious, the service was warm, the facility was charming. Couldn't have been happier celebrating our 28th anniversary.

Yelp
We went to Fleur's Place a couple of weeks ago with much anticipation. At first we were seated upstairs but it was sweltering with the fire on so asked to move downstairs which was a real bonus - Fleur sat with us and yarned for half the night which wouldn't have happened upstairs! With much consternation over ordering the perfect dish I had the portuguese skate wings and others shared a fish tasting platter. The skate wings were done perfectly however the tasting platter was a little lacking - it certainly showed off the fish but was just a plate of fish... I'd definitely go back in a shot but would order the fish of the day or whole blue cod because that's what she does best. Sticky date pudding was average. Creme brûlée was up to the task. Still a great restaurant by a long shot!

Yelp
Seafood perfection. I had the trio of fillets, ocean perch, monkfish and another unfamiliar to me. All beautiful with a lovely dill sauce. My wife had the mussels, a bit much for her. Waiting for dessert now. Views from second floor are extraordinary.

Alison G.

Yelp
The sun was shining, the outdoor seating is incredible, and everyone was huddled inside. I don't get it! All that incredible outdoor seating: some on the second story with amazing views out over the harbor. Some right on the edge of the water - just beautiful. If you go, sit outside!! If it's cold, bring a jacket and just pretend you're camping. Don't miss the gorgeous fresh air experience!!! I can't say my dish was amazing, but it was very good. The veggies were especially good, and perfectly in season. I can't wait to go back and try something else!

Yelp
A special trip and birthday present. Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff. The scallop and mushroom entree was a group favorite. We all had fish of different types and each proclaimed their choice. A definite when in the area.

Yelp
The restaurant was highly recommended, but I was quite disappointed. First, as I had been hiking much of the day, I asked for extra water; the waiter brought a large bottle of water without telling me I would be charged $4 for it. I would have been happy with a pitcher of tap water, so I felt ripped-off right away. Then I ordered some kind of mussel soup dish which was supposed to be a delicacy, but it tasted gritty, essentially like a bowl of dirt. I feared I was simply not used to some weird acquired taste, but three years later was served essentially the same dish by a friend at home and it tasted excellent. I confess I was simply too tired to complain at the time, but now I wish I had.

Yelp
Fleur's Place is a fantastic restaurant, serving the freshest fish imaginable in a spectacular setting in the beautiful fishing village of Moeraki, just south of Oamaru. A true "destination" restaurant, people flock to Fleur's Place not just from around New Zealand, but from around the world (Rick Stein made the place famous several years ago, when he reviewed it for a British paper). Fleur herself is a NZ institution in her own right, and she is a regular presence in the dining room, chatting with guests and adding her magic to the experience. Her fish chowder is justly famous, but so is her venison and Guinness pie, and with the bounty of the ocean on her doorstep, all the seafood on offer is exceptional. Definitely a place to make a detour to.

Yelp
I live in NZ and took my mom there for an early dinner since everyone always talks about the amazing food. Even though the setting is lovely and the food was tasty, I could not help but feel absolutely ripped off with the inflated prices - $18 for a small bowel of (starter size) soup of the day and over £37 for a small piece of fish of the day with steamed veg and a few potatoes.... Definitely tourist prices. Disappointed and because of that I would not be going back in a hurry.
