If you want to stay in a very central location in Melbourne at an affordable price, this hotel may seem like a good option. However, the experience was far from pleasant, especially during New Year’s or public holidays. The room became extremely loud due to the bar downstairs and people gathering outside, including homeless individuals.
My partner and I booked an 8-person mixed dorm because we made a last-minute decision to visit Melbourne and there were limited options available so we had to book this hotel. Unfortunately, all the other roommates were male, which made me feel uncomfortable (I can’t believe I am the only female in the mixed gender room). Some of them appeared to be long-term guests, took up a lot of space in the room, and behaved strangely. We also suspect that some personal items and snacks may have been taken (they were not valuable, so we did not report this to staff).
Another unsettling issue was that I always placed my shoes neatly under the bed, but every time I returned to the room or woke up in the morning, they were moved and left in a mess. I cannot confirm whether someone touched my belongings, but it was very uncomfortable.
The public areas and elevators were also in poor condition. The kitchen and common areas on the third floor were very dirty and just as noisy as the bar downstairs. Some guests made loud phone calls in public spaces, and I overheard racist language, which was disturbing. Rooftop closed too early and we don’t have a chance to using it. The elevators were extremely slow due to the number of guests, and one elevator had part of its ceiling missing.
I have stayed in many youth hostels, but this was by far the worst and strangest experience. The house rules were also unusual—for example, alcohol is completely prohibited, which we were only informed of upon arrival (this is allowed in many other youth hostels).
Overall, we would not choose to stay here again. It is really weird. People in this hotel are weird. Hotel decoration is weird too.
