Charming and congenial! This is a tiny little "hole in the wall place," down an alleyway, but it is definitely a find! According to the owners, this is the oldest restaurant in Portugal and the secret to its longevity must be due to the combination of traditional and local food and excellent personal service. We thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and the delicious Portuguese dishes.

One of the best places we ate on our Portugal trip! The atmosphere is welcoming, homey, and friendly. I love the architecture and history behind the building and restaurant. The owner and server are super engaging and very helpful with food suggestions and pairings. We closed the place down after 3 1/2 hrs of sitting at the table and chatting with the owner and another couple sitting near us. Just an all around good feeling with delicious home cooked food and great port! A must visit when in Porto!

You would not expect such a nice restaurant in this small street. When you enter you get astonished with the spirit of this place. If you are down or upstairs it’s an experience just to be sitting there on those original chairs. Some tables are also piece of art. The decoration and architectural elements are very interesting. Then you can order from short, but complete menu. From different starters to main dish all is appetizing. I would just put more details about each dish on the paper. But that’s fine, very friendly staff will help you to explain what all those traditional names and dishes are made from. I think you can’t make wrong with any of the offered meal, we tried almost everything. Both starters and mains are delicious. They have original and traditional taste full of species and flavors. It might not be for everyone, but definitely worth it! Obrigado.

We had dinner in October 2024. The service is good. Ambiance is interesting, very traditional but in a tasteful way. The food overall is good, however I ordered a "premium" grilled meat medium rare, and it came overcooked and extremely chewy. I expected a little bit more. The other dishes are good, my advice is to not order anything grilled and stick to the slow cooked stews which seem to be their strong point. The veal was very good. Prices are steep for the portions you get, especially on the appetizers.

Fantastic traditional Portuguese restaurant tucked away in a small side street and well worth seeking out but do book as it's listed in a few of the popular guides and isn't that large. Dining is over 2 small floors, we sat on the ground floor, both had great atmosphere, attentive service and most importantly brilliant food. Portions are generous and reasonably priced as was the wine list, Staff extremely friendly and attentive, happy to explain all the menu and to provide recommendations.

This was one of the best restaurants I’ve been to in Portugal. The food and service were impeccable. The staff went out of their way to inform us about every portion of the meal. We enjoyed the cheese/sausage starter, the veal and pork loin. The pear soaked in port wine for dessert was incredible. Try to make a reservation, if possible, but the staff was very accommodating and thankfully we were able to be seated within 15 minutes. Overall, incredible experience. Will definitely be back and recommend to everyone!

Google
NEVER go to this place. We took fish and meat, 6 hours after my bf started VOMITING and had a strong intoxication with a fever (38.8). We didn't eat anything else that evening, so this restaurant is the only possible cause. Our vacation was totally ruined. We didn't go to all the booked activities in the next few days (which were non-refundable). This was completely disappointing. Besides, the food wasn't even tasty at all. We wasted money here and ruined our vacation. P.S. Since I can't respond to the comment of the owner, I will edit my review. I understand that you want to defend your "restaurant," but this is not the case. We are 100% sure that my bf got poisoned because of your food. We ate the same dishes during the last days. Only he ate the fish with vegetables and got poisoned. The first symptoms started after 5 hours. Which is typical for fish/vegetables poisoning. By the way, it is worth it to highlight that the fish have not even been bone-free or even skin-free.

Google
An absolute must if you like traditional Portuguese food. I cannot recommend this highly enough. Flaming chorizo was excellent as a starter, the veal super tasty and the traditional Portuguese desert great. Service is fantastic, the waiting staff super helpful and all in all a great experience. This gets five stars as there isn’t the option for six 😁

Yelp
A local gem off the beaten path and overflowing with history. I had the sea-bass dinner with 2 appetizers of sardines and anchovies. So good!!! My wife had the game-meat sausages which she also enjoyed. The service was excellent and we even had a nice conversation about the history of the location with the owner. We'll be back next time in Porto!

Yelp
One of the stops of our Porto Food tour, Flor dos Congregados is a little hard to find but worth it. It's off the usual tourist path but that makes it extra awesome when you're here. Our stop was at lunch time and we had a reserved table. For later times, you will definitely want to make a reservation. Slow food is the concept here with 150 years of history. As well, a piano is ready to go and what's interesting is that it's here for the diners. The staff don't play. For our food tour, we had an interesting sandwich. I wish I'd thought to get a picture of it in profile because it was actually three layers but with the two cuts from opposite sides and each stuffed with a different ingredient. An iberico ham in one and a slow roasted pork loin in the other. Completely delicious and very interesting. We had a red brut wine with it. Yep, a bubbly red which is something I've never had before but will definitely be seeking out again. I would recommend this wine and the restaurant completely. [Review 9892 overall, 1470 of 2018.]

Yelp
My friend and I were visiting Porto for the weekend. When searching for the places to eat, this particular place was on many 'best of' lists. We got there at 11:30 and were told to come back at noon as that's when they're open. The service here is impeccable. We had appetizers and two craft beers (IPA and Bock). Sardines, cod croquets, liver, salad, pork cheek, and pork sandwich. Beware: they serve the liver cold. All our dishes were delicious. I've had the best service here. Seriously thinking about doing lunch AND dinner while in Porto. It's worth it.

Yelp
Louis R never uses Yelp to find restos. Louis R finds all Yelpers to be dumbasses who have never traveled anywhere. Louis R found this excellent resto while roaming the city and getting lost, on-purpose. Louis R loves the service, atmosphere, Super Bock and vino Verde at this spot. Oh yeah, Louis R hella loves the sardines, cod croquets, liver, and the pork cheek. Louis R does not adhere to reservation requirements. You may need it here, if you are not Louis R. Be like Louis R, be international.

Yelp
Food was decent and lots of character in the space but service was not very good. Was quite slow and brought meals out about 20 minutes apart instead of together. One caution is that they only accept cash. No credit cards! I found this quite surprising and inconvenient for a full service restaurant. Being used to Canada where about 70% of the people don't carry cash but only use debit or credit cards I can see this being a deterrent to visit. I would probably not visit again until they accept credit cards. Traveling with cash in a new country is never the safest thing to practice.

Yelp
Absolutely wonderful dining experience!!! This rustic family owned restaurant serves up some of the best food of Northern Portugal. Its tucked away in a hidden alley so finding it may be a bit tricky but well worth the hunt. Every menu item is seasoned well and cooked perfectly. The dishes capture the simple essence of the food but all the flavors marry together well. I ordered a vegetarian sausage and mushroom rice dish. Common seasonings such as thyme and rosemary are used but again, all the food is cooked so well that each bite is truly perfection. Portions are generous. The menu appears to change seasonly which to me is a plus. Ingredients are fresh and clean. The actual space is both romantic and rustic. Reservations are recommended. Pricing is affordable: 2 glasses of wine, 1 appetizer, and 2 entrees was about 35 Euro! This restaurant to me is the epitome of Porto culinary culture. Obrigada!

Yelp
Slow Portuguese food in Porto. Tastes good. You might not know how they cook, but you can actually feel how hard to cook just as Flor dos Congregados.

Yelp
Sorry for let down but we ordered several items, none memorable except pear in port wine. My husband had the toughest veal in the world, we also had this portuguese sausage that was more like bread mush...they weren't even busy that night so I don't know what was up. The green soup was ok but nothing spectacular as with the terylene sandwich with a sliver of meat inside. Average food at best! Skip it

Tanya M.

Yelp
The food concept is slow-cooked food so be prepared to wait for your food. The wait is worth it though! I had the Terylene and the Veal in Wine Sauce--both excellent.

Yelp
Charming place. Dark and small gives it a very intimate atmosphere to have some drinks. For only drinks I would say this is a 4 star. The food was a bit disappointing. They tout slow cooking and the care that goes into the meats for marinades and roasting. It sounds wonderful and I don't doubt they put a lot into their dishes, but in finishing the dishes I felt they fell short. Their signature sandwich has a slow roasted pork loin and a slice of ham in a roll. Sounds wonderful but was quite dry. For slow cooking, you typically get moist and tender. They got tender but fell short on moist. They could have drizzled olive oil on a sandwich or added a pickle or cheese. I know it's not the dish but those elements exist Ina Cubano for example for a reason. It works. I would like to see more from the slow cooking they do. Service was friendly so overall not a bad experience but I would not go out of my way to come here.
