I fell in love with the Flying Saucer Drive-in before I walked in the door. I drove by it once: "what the-"; twice: "I have GOT to check that out." I'm a big fan of cheesy 1950s sci fi, so the decor is right up my alley.
You can see the saucer shape before you walk in, and it's awesome to see that the inside has windows all the way around, in two circles. It's also impressive that everything is spotless here: despite the fact that it's been open since 1972, and it's always busy here, they keep everything looking like it's fresh off the set of "Plan 9 From Outer Space".
It would have been worth a visit even if the food weren't so good. But, the space age cooks here really know their stuff. I got a New York Strip at Remington's Steak House that set me back $50CDN for 14 ounces, and came with almost nothing. This 8 ounce steak wasn't as luxurious, but it was very good, and it came with eggs, toast, and crispy home fries for only $18.99CDN. That's a bargain.
Massive, delicious pancakes and stuffed French toast - far too much for one person to eat - will only set you back $12.99.
And, they have alcohol! Beer, wine, and liquor are all available here, for a reasonable price.
Maybe even more impressive was that they were able to provide fast service despite how busy it was. There was freezing rain today, and the place was still packed. Next time I'm in the Niagara Falls area, I will definitely stop in again, no matter what the weather is like.
