How to Plan the Perfect Trip to Reykjavik, Iceland

"An immersive, 35-minute flying ride that simulates a journey over the country’s most striking landscapes using a spherical screen and suspended seats; enhanced with special effects such as mist, wind, and scents, it delivers a heart-pumping, cinematic overview of Iceland’s geographic diversity from the comfort of a seat." - Lydia Mansel Lydia Mansel Lydia Mansel is a writer with more than eight years of experience editing and writing for both brands and online publications—with a particular focus on travel, fashion, and lifestyle. 30 Best Things to Do in Las Vegas

"FlyOver places you inside a spherical screen and simulates flying over iconic locales in the U.S., Canada, and Iceland; as the film dips and turns the moving seats and special effects, like a light mist when you fly through clouds, make you feel like you’re actually flying." - Patricia Doherty Patricia Doherty Patricia Doherty is a writer who specializes in covering destinations, resorts, and cruises for Travel + Leisure and other publications. "The city has lots of under-an-hour museums to explore between meals, but our favorite is the immersive Fly Over Iceland, which simulates air travel over the entire country (fun for all ages if you don't get carsick)."

This place is absolutely amazing! I wasn’t sure if we would find it interesting, since we had just finished a real tour of Iceland ourselves, but we were so glad we did this. The immersive experience is like no other, and gives you a thorough birds eye view of the entire country. We were amazed at the ability of the ride to make it feel like you were actually soaring up and down and over different areas. They even made it smell like sulfur in the room when you were flying over some of the steam vents!

Wanted to go some place we hadn’t visited before and thought ‘flying over Iceland’ would be nice. It was even nicer than expected! You get to sit in what seems to be a seat for a roller-coaster, and it really feels like your flying. After a minute, we were used to the feeling though. Our 7-year old thought it was a bit exciting, but most of all very cool and beautiful ! Great to see all of the places you’ve seen, or will never see because of it’s remoteness, from ‘above’. They also have a cafe and a nice gift shop.

Nice little thing to do when the weather isn’t that great. 📣PSA: you can get 20% off online tickets when you use the code “STUCKINICELAND” There’s a little cafe downstairs whilst you wait for your show, or the bus that comes every half an hour or so.

One of the amazing experience in Rekjavik One cannot miss this. It costs around gbp 19 approx. One cannot visit every nook and corners of Iceland However this gives a unique experience. Kids live and love it. Even elderly people can enjoy Its a ride which takes you in historical journey of Iceland, beautiful landscapes And ice caves and glaciers

I was a bit skeptical about this tourist attraction, but decided to give it a try… and wow, it was amazing! It really feels like you’re flying over Iceland’s beautiful landscapes. They even spray with some mist when the video goes through clouds, waterfalls or geothermal vents. But what surprised me was that they stimulate also your sense of smell. From the lavender of the flower fields to the sulfur of the geyser. Well done!

Like many reviewers, I was initially sceptical as to whether motion seating and modern technology could really feel immersive. Also like many reviewers, I was absolutely blown away by just how immersive it was. It genuinely feels like you're flying through the air, and the screen works as designed and gives you a fantastic viewing angle, tricking your brain even more to the point that I was moving my feet to avoid the tips of mountains! I believe the flyover experience is 8 and a half minutes in total, and the entire experience fits into about 45 minutes (including the gift shop/WC after the show). There is some pre-amble before the main event, including a high resolution depiction of an old log house and an older Nordic gentleman, and later a depiction of a troll explaining some of the folklore surrounding the island. None of this compares to the actual flyover though. In terms of accessibility, it is worth noting that the actual exhibit is upstairs, requiring steps up and steps down to/from the show. I did not see a lift/elevator, it may be worth contacting them if this would be something required. Additionally, the log house and troll parts of the exhibit require standing on ground that is not perfectly level for an approximately 10-15 minutes total. The tickets are quite pricey for an 8 minute show but I feel it was worth it for the motion seating experience. If you are visiting Reykjavik on a budget - this one could probably be skipped. I was able to find a discount code on TripAdvisor for 20% off tickets booked online, although Google will not let me post it here.

My dad and I did both the Fly Over Iceland and the Fly Over Canadian Rockies rides (they are at the same location). We enjoyed each ride immensely. I actually liked the Canadian Rockies a little bit more. Even though both of them were great. The Rockies just had really beautiful footage and I enjoyed the presentation a tiny more. I definitely recommend doing them back-to-back. Worth the money and the time. Especially if you're on a chill day and aren't looking to do a lot of physical exercise. We got to see cool sights and relax at the same time. The staff was all very friendly. Our guide Niha (I'm so sorry if I misspelled your name) was very knowledgeable and was chatting with us about the weather and winter atmosphere before our ride began. The website was very easy to use and booking was a breeze. The location has a cafe that serves coffee, pastries, and pizza. We arrived early and hung out and drank some coffee and got some food. It was delicious. I would absolutely recommend this to visitors of Reykjavik.
