Lots of positive things to say about La Maison Hotel Petra, but there were a couple of things that let the hotel down - hence why I only gave four stars overall.
Firstly the hotel is in a fantastic location - just a couple of minutes walk away from the visitors entrance into Petra, and just around the back of various restaurants and convenience stores on the Main Street.
The hotel and rooms are very modern, well appointed and clean. My room was quite spacious and very comfortable. One tiny niggle was that the shower was far too hot for my personal liking - but I know that plenty of people appreciate a boiling hot shower!
Breakfast was superb: with an impressive array of options to choose from. You can have an omelette cooked to order, and pancakes are also freshly made.
Laundry service was also fantastic - I put in a couple of items first thing in the morning, and they were back in my room before 3pm clean and pressed. Prices were really reasonable too.
They have a rooftop restaurant which my travel companions went to for dinner, but everything they ordered was unavailable so they went elsewhere. I went up there one afternoon for a cappuccino and was told they didn’t have any, so I asked for a milky coffee instead. After 15 minutes or so a black coffee arrived - so I asked for some milk and was told there was milk in it, which there definitely was not! After waiting for another 10 minutes a little jug of milk eventually arrived. At this point I was not particularly happy, but there was no apology and I still had to pay for a now cold coffee.
Despite the abysmal service from the top floor restaurant, I would certainly recommend staying at this lovely hotel. But maybe give the rooftop restaurant a miss.
