The Folegandros Hideaways, Ano Meria, Folegandros - Explore & Book

"High on a Greek island hilltop, overlooking ancient terraces, white-cube houses and endless blue horizons, are these two simple but perfectly restored Cycladic cottages. They sit in the scattered hamlet of Ano Meria, at the end of the only road on Folegandros, which itself is one of the tiniest and remotest islands in the Cyclades archipelago. This is a place to disconnect and unwind, with the breeze in your hair, the sun on your face, and your toes in the turquoise plunge pool. They are also among the most sympathetically refurbished village houses that we’ve seen. (Truth be told, we haven’t seen them in person yet; but we’ve studied the photographs, we know the location, we love the people behind it, and guest feedback is great). Expect cool rustic-chic interiors, stone-and-beam ceilings, micro-cement floors, tasteful wood and wicker furnishings and a few pop-art touches. Each has a large sunny terrace with a private pool and sunbeds, a cosy double bedroom, a shower bathroom, a living room with sofabed(s), and a small kitchen with all you need for home cooking - or you can wander along the lane to authentic Greek tavernas. Both are perfect as a couple's hideaway, or with little one(s) if you're up for some adventure: Villa 1 has two sofabeds, Villa 2 has one. Come for a lazy, sunny week of beach hikes, boat rides, al fresco meals, and a back-to-nature island lifestyle. Highs Sunsets are breathtaking up here at 220m (650ft): inky seas below, ochre skies above, distant isles breaking a silvery horizon The wide sunny terraces have dining alcoves, reading spots, sunloungers and a small heated pool with those giddying views The island’s best sand beach, Agali, is below the villas: snorkel, jump on a boat, dine at the lovely Blue Sand Hotel (run by the villas' owners) Although it feels super-remote, Folegandros is actually only a couple of hours by ferry from Santorini, which has direct flights from UK and Europe Lows Be aware you're in a tiny village: there's a minimarket, a couple of restaurants and a bakery, but not much else It's a 3km drive (or a 45-min walk) down to the nearest beach, so you'll want a car (but not use it much) The houses retains their traditional footprint: some rooms are compact The pool terraces lack natural shade (but each has a covered part)" - Handpicked by our hotel experts

We picked “Folegandros Villas” for our summer vacations and we stayed there 4 nights, and each one was special. The view from the room was breathtaking, you can see the port of the island, and the Aegean coast is literally on your feet. It’s a very quiet place, exactly what someone needs to relax with his family or friends. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, and always available to help or guide us. I recommended 100%!

Absolutely stunning location, views are incredible! The villas themselves are rustic but we loved ours and Evgenia who works there couldn’t do enough to help us and gave us lots of great restaurant recommendations. We visited with our 8 year old son for 4 nights and wished we stayed longer. We’ll definitely be back to this undiscovered gem.

We have started our vacation in the worst possible way, the moment we stepped into the Folegandros ''villa''. The rooms' maintenance and cleanliness simply do not exist. We walked into a dirty apartment, worn-out towels, stained cushions, a bed mattress maybe from the previous century, same with the bed pillows, and a dangerous stairway without handrails, with various cables dangerously uncovered (photos attached). The air conditioning unit had never been cleaned (photos attached). The kitchen sink was molded and dirty (photos attached), and a lack of wardrobes resulted to have all our clothes being placed on the living room sofa. The common area where you can make your coffee, with the one coffee capsule machine for all 10 villas, was dirty as well. When we complained about the above-mentioned unacceptable situation, the owner never even showed his face, just threw out lame excuses over the phone, and when we said we were leaving, he became rude, aggressive, and tried to threaten us that he would bring the police, even though we had made a down payment covering more days than the actually stayed. Absolutely unacceptable behavior, massively overpriced at 300€ per day (it's not worth more than 90€ per day, and this is thanks to the nice location, which is the only positive thing someone can mention). We had booked 15 nights, but couldn’t stand it past the fourth day (till we found another hotel). Bottom line: Folegandros is an amazing island, with very beautiful hotels and villas, and kind people (Folegandros villas is the only negative exception).

I truly don’t understand how Folegandros Villas gets such glowing ratings (10 on Booking.com and 4.8 on Tripadvisor/Google). Yes, the location is beautiful but that’s where the positives end. For €300 a night we walked into a run-down, dirty two-story ‘villa’ (apartment): worn-out towels, stained cushions, spiderwebs under the sofa, a bed you literally have to jump into and a dangerously unsafe stairway. The so-called common area, with the one nespresso-type coffee machine for all 10 ‘villas,’ was dirty and neglected as well.|When we complained, the owner never even showed his face, just threw out lame excuses (‘the sink is as built…’) and showed indifference when we said we were leaving. Absolutely unacceptable, massively overpriced, and deeply disappointing. We had booked nine nights but couldn’t stand it past the second day.

Amazing place. We stayed at Folegandros Villas and we enjoyed the view of the Aegean Sea. The rooms were beautiful and clean. The staff was helpful and very kind. I recommend you this place for sure.

Folegandros itself is a stunning island and this accommodation is in an ideal setting with beautiful sea views, within easy walking distance of the port town and an easy bus ride to the main town. However, do not believe everything you see on the website - when we went for ten nights in August 2024, the bar, restaurant and dining facilities, clearly pictured and described on the site, were closed (seemingly permanently although they are still being advertised). The outdoor furniture was also not as pictured and was either missing, broken or very basic and certainly not as shown. There were also items missing from inside our apartment which had been clearly advertised on the website as being provided. We had booked over a year in advance for a special family holiday for my husband’s 60th so there was plenty of time for us to be informed that the bar and dining services clearly advertised would not be available. When we pointed out the lack of facilities on arrival, the woman on reception was polite and replaced some of the missing items from the apartment but we wanted to see the manager/owner to express our disappointment about the misleading advertising, particularly of the bar and dining facilities and outdoor furniture. He displayed the worst customer service I have ever experienced - he was rude, aggressive, dismissive, misogynistic and totally unprofessional, threatening to call the tourist police because we had dared to raise a perfectly legitimate complaint. After shouting, screaming and storming off, he was forced to back down when he could not provide the email he insisted we had received (we hadn’t received any such email) saying the bar and dining facilities would not be available. He eventually and extremely reluctantly refunded one night’s stay - not enough but we had to accept it given that the island is very small and, in August, busy so we would have struggled to find alternative accommodation. These are comfortably rustic apartments in a beautiful location - they are not luxury villas so should not be promoted as such and the promotion should certainly not include facilities which don’t exist. It was the thoroughly obnoxious attitude of the owner however which really spoiled our experience.
