Best Santa Barbara Wineries to Visit

"Housed in a comfortable 3,500-square-foot Lompoc tasting room popular with Sta. Rita Hills visitors, this estate is known for strong Pinots and Chardonnays and a notable rosé of Grenache. Tastings are by reservation only, daily from late morning to early evening, and the property hosts a robust calendar of events (notably seasonal brunches). It’s a convenient, well-appointed stop for wine tourists focused on varietal diversity and organized programming." - Food & Wine Editors

My wife and I had a great time wine tasting here The property is beautiful the staff was friendly, and the wines were amazing. We especially enjoyed the Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Great experience overall we’ll definitely be coming back

Google
My family visited for the first time Black Friday. The grounds were gorgeous! The wine was perfection! Andrew was terrific! He guided us through the tasting with right on notes, a fun personality, and we even learned some new things about wine. My mom became a connoisseur member so we will be back very soon and can’t wait!!

We love coming to Foley for the beautiful scenery, delicious wines, and incredible staff! We had Dannika today and she instantly put us in a great mood with her bubbly personality. She has incredible knowledge of other wineries in the area and history of the Foley brands. We can’t wait to come back again!

I had the most delightful experience at Foley Winery during my recent wine tasting, and I can't wait to return! The winery itself is absolutely stunning, with picturesque views of the surrounding vineyards and a relaxed, inviting atmosphere that made me feel right at home from the moment I arrived. What truly made the visit exceptional, however, was our host, Danica. She was incredibly sweet, knowledgeable, and attentive, guiding us through the tasting with a warm and welcoming demeanor. Her expertise and passion for the wines shone through, and she made sure to explain the unique characteristics of each wine, sharing interesting details about the winemaking process. Danica was so personable and made the entire experience feel like a special, her enthusiasm was infectious, and I genuinely appreciated how she took the time to make the tasting enjoyable and educational without ever feeling rushed. Foley Winery is already a favorite of mine, and with Danica as a host, it’s a place I will definitely be returning to. Highly recommend visiting and asking for Danica – she’ll make your experience unforgettable!

Was such a gorgeous and peaceful day. Veronica was so friendly and gave wonderful advice on other places I should visit. Not to mention the wines were delicious. Will certainly return

Google
My first wine tasting in CA. I brought my 2 adult sons. It was their first time ever tasting at a winery. After being told we’d have to wait an hour at nearby Melville winery since we didn’t have an appt. Foley made us feel welcomed! We had a great experience with Dannika who was so friendly, informative and passionate about the wines. She made what could have been a turn off for a first tasting experience for my sons into a great afternoon!

Yelp
It's always a good experience each and every time we're here. It's always a good time to be had. Regardless if we had planned an outing or just a quick pop in. Every visit is great. All their staffs are amazing. Each and every single one of them brings their own unique perspective to the tasting. Their ways of explaining the wine makes the tasting experience way more fun. Veronica who always takes care of us is basically family now. Each experience just gets better and better. The wine offered is always tasty and full of flavors. Each year brings different flavors which is great to experience. The property is beautiful with all the vineyards in the background while tasting. Also, if you're inside, the nice fireplace makes a fun experience as well. Regardless who takes care of you, the experience will alway be great. With their great wine and friendly service, it's a win win experience. Great for groups, just a casual outing or date. Wine tasting here is always fun. It's also pet friendly which makes it more enjoyable.

Yelp
We went to Foley with some friends who are members and absolutely loved it! We drive by all the time and can't believe we'd never stopped in before. The property is gorgeous, and I loved the ambiance as you drive in through the vineyards. We were welcomed right away by Veronica, who was so friendly and knowledgeable about the wines. They have a large patio with beautiful views, but we sat inside since it was raining, and I was really impressed by how cozy it felt (especially the chairs!). The wine was delicious, and they offer cheeses, meats, and crackers so you can build your own charcuterie board. Definitely a new favorite spot to bring out-of-town guests.

Yelp
I spent the day wine tasting with a friend, and we kicked things off at Foley Estate Winery & Vineyard--and what a fantastic way to start! To be honest, I'm not a huge wine drinker, but this vineyard completely won me over. Everything about the experience was exceptional--the beautiful setting, welcoming staff, and cozy tasting room made it easy to relax and enjoy the moment. Our server was incredibly knowledgeable and so much fun to chat with that I found myself not wanting to leave. We did a wine flight with a cheese board pairing, and every selection was perfectly curated. The cheeses were fantastic, and the wines complemented them beautifully. My personal favorite was the T Ranch Chardonnay--absolutely outstanding! The pricing was reasonable, and the staff went above and beyond, even recommending other great wineries in the area that we ended up visiting later in the day. Whether you're a seasoned wine lover or just dipping your toes into wine tasting, Foley Estate is a must-visit. Highly recommend!

Yelp
We enjoyed a lovely tasting at Foley this week. After a tasting at Babcock, (which was very good and a cool tasting room) we decided to try Foley. Dannika was our server, personable and very knowledgeable about not only about the wine but the region. We talked about other wineries and places to eat. As we sat there with a taste, she made a handwritten list of 10 other wineries and places to eat, each place had a comment next to it like Roblar (good wines, lovely food) Barbieri (great Grenache, many whites) etc. I will definitely keep the list for our next visit to that area. Thank you, Dannika, we will come back to visit next time we are in the area. And oh, by the wines were excellent, we bought a Pinot.

Yelp
Was not impressed with the wines here. Tasting was pricey $35 plus tax & pourings were on the stingy side. there's a charge to sit outside unless you buy a bottle from them. There was nothing I tasted on the tasting menu that was memorable. inside decor was nice & had a big stone chimney to warm your feet by but other than that not worth to return to. +1 customer service was nice but if it gets busy RSVPs are recommended. +1

Yelp
Made a reservation for 2pm on a Saturday, and when we parked, there was someone waiting to seat us. I believe our pourer is Alisha, and she is very sweet. We didn't know we couldn't bring outside food in (different wineries differ in their rules), and we had brought a picnic...which we weren't allowed to eat. This was bad...because I didn't think I'd last if I didn't have some food. So we got the charcuterie plate (which is....fine), and our server very graciously comped it for us because she felt bad we couldn't eat our pre-packed food. The wines were good. As I have said in other reviews, I really know nothing about wines and will drink just about anything, so this is all sort of lost on me. A tasting, which gives you 5-6 wines, is $30 (eegads), but if you buy two bottles, one of the tastings is comped. After, we did a little picnic outside of their tasting room on one of their picnic tables (where you CAN eat your own food), and took a (perhaps unauthorized) stroll through the vineyards, which was very nice. Oh, one very sad incident happened during the tasting. On the outside patio, they have (a bit inexplicably, maybe it's to block out the wind?) these clear windows that surround the perimeter of their patio. Near the end of our tasting, there was this *THUNK* behind us. A bird had flown right into the clear plexiglass and had fallen with its neck in a....not great position, on its back. We moved it into the shade and hope he was just stunned.....he was still there, and still standing by the time we left. So....fingers crossed. [sigh] Parking is on site and easy, and the bathrooms are on site and clean. Yep, I'm starting to review the bathrooms too. Stuff like that is important. (From September 2021)

Yelp
We are foley wine members with Firestone and we enjoyed wine tasting at Foley Estates for the first time. Wonderful chill terrace with views of the vineyards and a truly delicious wines.

Yelp
Visited Foley Estate Vineyard for the first time today and immediately fell in love with the property. After a few stops at other neighboring wineries we decided to stop by and check it out for future visits but ended up staying for an hour. So much open space with beautiful vineyard views. Loved the picnic tables area, perfect for families with kids. We stopped by around 4 pm to check out the winery and were greeted by a very friendly young man that kindly told us that they stop the tasting at 4 but we can get wine by the bottle or glass and enjoy it either at the indoor seating area or the outdoors. We chose the picnic tables and got a bottle of their Rose which was delicious. We stayed for an hour and left right before they were closing. Our first impression was Wow. We will be back. What a lovely property with such welcoming greeting....

Yelp
Amazing service by Danika who was so knowledgeable about the wine and the area! Thank you for such a wonderful experience and a great time!

Yelp
Fantastic, welcoming staff and a nice patio to enjoy a picnic lunch with a bottle of wine, overlooking the beautiful vineyard - yes, that is a slice of heaven! I love that they welcome outside food. We bought a bottle of the 2019 Foley Estates T Anchor Ranch Pinot Noir - an outstanding choice. They have many Pinot Noirs which we love. A great stop if you are driving between Buellton and Lompoc. Love that they are VERY dog-friendly!

Yelp
Had the opportunity to get a free tasting here today as part of their partnership with Brick Barn winery this month! I've driven by Foley so many times, but hadn't tried it before. It's amazing and we were so impressed that we became members today too! Our server Dannicka was super helpful and knowledgeable. The drive to the estate is gorgeous, lined with trees. There are views of the vineyards all around their outdoor patio. Every single wine we tasted was incredible. I'm such a big fan and being a member gets you access to several other wineries too!
google avatar

Yelp
Great Pinot Noirs here at Foley -- it's worth the short drive on the way to Lompoc and lots of rolling hills to see on the way. We bought a bottle and enjoyed it with our picnic lunch we brought. Nice patio as well with large tables with that amazing view. Dog friendly which is a plus. Thanks Foley -- we'll be back!

Yelp
Beautiful winery and vineyard. It was very nice and calm because it's off season. I came in January with a group of 5 and we did the Wine and Cheese Dynamics tasting experience in the private room with Danica as our sommelier. She is amazing, so knowledgable about the wines and growing process etc. She was so friendly and charismatic and really engaged our whole group and made the experience unforgettable. Great portion sizes for the price, nice variety of wines and more cheese than expected. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Great service, beautiful property and good Chardonnay and Pinot noirs. They are so welcoming to pets too.

Yelp
Everyone there was so nice and made us feel very welcomed. Veronica, our server, was amazing! Wine was very delicious! Would definitely go there again.

Yelp
Visited the Foley estate for the first time and it was a really nice experience! The tastings were yummy and generous. The outdoor setting is so pretty and relaxing! I honestly liked every wine I tasted but especially their 2018 Chardonnay and Pinot noir!

Yelp
Danika was wonderful! The Chardonnays were wonderful. We loved the cheese and wine pairing.

Yelp
We called today and got in ! No reservations needed. Lucky us. Alicia helped us . She was knowledgeable and delightful. She made the tasting experience fun. She has outstanding interpersonal skills. About the wines we had two Chardonnay's, two pinot noir, rose' , and one Syrah . I'm more of white wine drinker. I enjoyed the white wines. Smooth and balanced .

Yelp
Foley Estates Vineyard & Winery is dog friendly, including inside the tasting room. I came here with my husband and our little girl dog on a Friday afternoon around 12:25 pm. It was pretty quiet with just the employee behind the counter. The employee greeted us when we came in and helped us with a wine tasting, $15 for 5 different wines. Since we are wine members of EOS Winery, one of Foley Estates Vineyard & Winery sister wineries, we both have complementary tastings (wine club benefits). Being that I am rather limited in what type of wines I like (dessert wines and roses), I didn't really like the wines that much, but my husband did (the true wine lover). The employee hostessing us was nice and made some conversation with us. Overall, it was a nice experience and think you would like this winery if you like reds and whites. Please note that when we came, the cherry blossoms were in bloom as we drove to the tasting room. Definitely a very picture perfect place.

Yelp
We arrived for our reservation and were greeted right away by a friendly staff member. Foley has some of our favorite wines and we try to come her as often as we can. The patio is relaxing and the the vineyard view is gorgeous. Veronica is usually our server and she is so friendly and always welcomes us with a smile. Foley is fortunate to have her as an employee. She is very knowledgeable about the wines and we appreciate that even though we are regulars she still shares the wine notes and adds to our experience.

Yelp
I have been a member for several years. Yesterday my wine drinking friend and I stopped in. It was rainy and we didn't have reservations. The hostess treated us like royalty. Found us a place inside to hunker down, stay warm and enjoy our wine. She was so lovely and accommodating. Went above and beyond our widest expectations. Lovely little lady from Wyoming you are the cats meow. Thank you and cheers Maggie and Pam San Pedro, CA

Great Pizza Places P.

Yelp
Good wines, light pours, odd setup for seating. Not that comfortable or cozy for a wine tasting venue. Seems a bit sterile. Surprised by the tasting that they give such a light pour. You cannot get a good taste. We went to 3 wineries on the same day and this one was the stingiest with how much wine they let you taste.
google avatar

Allison E.

Yelp
Had such a lovely time tasting here with the wonderful Billie this past Saturday. They accommodated a reservation change no problem and didn't rush us out. Everything here felt super safe as far as Covid goes, proper social distancing, super clean bathrooms, cleaning tables between guests and menus available online. Also such an amazing view! I felt transported for a couple hours. Can't wait to come back and we loved their wines so much we joined the wine club!
google avatar

Steve A.

Yelp
Solid winemaking, with the Pinot Noir being the standout. It's a nice facility and the tasting room staff is informative. Not the most complex wines you'll find in the area, but a good starting point.
google avatar

Mike K.

Yelp
I give 5 stars because Foley has always been my go to when it comes to an incredible wine tasting experience!! Veronica never disappoints - great service and recommendations. I'm really glad that they are allowing outside food again.I love to entertain there whether business or pleasure. I am hoping there will be live music soon. It was a bummer to find out they are currently out of some of their reserve pinot. If you are predominately looking for pinot I recommend calling ahead .

SoCal. J.

Yelp
I wasn't wowed by any of the wines. Just Chardonnay and Pinot Noir with a bonus pour of Syrah. Everyone's taste is different but I have had a lot of Chardonnay and Pinot noir and these were very average. Our server was very nice and took great care of us. I would only recommend this winery if you really love Chardonnay and Pinot.

Warren E.

Yelp
The wines are good however the service was not up to what i have received in the past visits to the winery. I was disappointed on my last visit
google avatar

Brenda P.

Yelp
I discovered Foley when recommended by Jared from Vialetto's In Coral Gables, Fl and it's our usual bottle when dining there. I was excited when I noticed that the vineyard would be so close to where we would be visiting. If you visit be careful of the Iphone/Google Maps directions. It led me north up a mountain (where the paved street became dirt roads, lanes merged into one and dogs tied to trailers were becoming the highlight of the adventure) instead of west where I needed to go! Also take screen shots of the directions ahead of time because if you lose reception like I did a couple of times you are S.O.L! Finally made it on time to our private tasting. The tasting was only $10.00 and it included their 2009 Pinot Grigio, 2008 Bar Lazy S Chardonnay, 2008 Chardonnay, JA Ranch, 2007 Pinot Noir Rancho Santa Rosa and 2008 Rancho Santa Rosa Syrah. We also had an assortment of cheese to go with it: Dogino Havarti, French brie, Drunken Goat, Montchevre and Flagship. Did I mention it was a Tuesday at 10am? It's OK to drink so early right? The tasting lasted about 40 minutes or so. The woman leading it was very nice and knowledgeable. Once done, she left us alone to finish anything we wanted from the presentation in the room. We then strolled around the shops and grounds before leaving to the next stop. It was really great to see where one of our regular wines comes from. We did not purchase any cases because it would be too expensive to ship them to Florida but they were really happy to know their wine had fans in South Florida.

L R.

Yelp
Buyer beware! The 2020 JA Ranch is nothing more than a watered down pricy Pinot Noir! Customer SVC at the winery is horrible! Pandemic is over! I bought 6 bottles of this wine on a shipping deal n have never tasted such awful, cheap tasting wine for $60 a bottle! I was refunded for one bad bottle but now I'm stuck with 5 others which they refused to refund...been a Foley customer since they began n have spent thousands of $$$ over years on their Pinots but now that is over!

Yelp
Best chardonnay I've had in the area. Not as good as a few years back, but still very good. Foley is a beautiful winery in almost every way. New looking everything, hence the four stars. It's so new looking, even though it's been around for a while, that it lacks the charm of others that have weathered a bit. No sour smell of old barrels and wine spilled behind an impossible to reach cabinet... No hand oil built up on old worn wood... and no stains offering stories. I prefer a more rustic scenery, but if you enjoy beautiful grounds, a lovely warm club chair, and impeccable cleanliness, Foley is the place for you. Oh, and the staff are great too, pouring some truly wonderful wines.
google avatar

Sherry C.

Yelp
I recently went to Foley with friends, who happen to be members, for a tasting. It was later in the afternoon so we knew that the winery would be closing within 35 minutes. I have been at tasting rooms in the past where our hosts appeared eager to get people out the door near closing time but that was not the case at Foley. Our tasting was handled by Javier, who treated us so incredibly well. He was friendly and knowledgeable. He let us revisit a couple of wines that we were interested in. Even though it was getting late, he graciously allowed us to purchase glasses of wine to enjoy on their beautiful patio. The location and wines are beyond lovely but our experience with Javier is the reason I will be returning as a member.

Susie G.

Yelp
Disappointed when we went with friends to an event. Didn't receive what was listed when purchasing our ticket. They made all sorts of excuses and the manager and staff were rude. Sent emails to different corporate departments and even to Bill Foley. No Response. I guess they are too big to care about me and my friends, all wine consumers. Won't be visiting any of the Foley owned Wineries
google avatar

Lindsay F.

Yelp
Beautiful winery, exceptionally friendly staff, and delicious wines. Kid and pet friendly. This vine yard is really pretty, and my friend told me about this place. It takes a couple of hours, but you'll like the fantastic assortment of wines. You have to take a whole day to sort it out, so make sure you plan accordingly. It's a great experience, and you should go with somebody that you like spending time with.

Yelp
Great day for wine tour, great winery for tasting. Foley has amazing Pinot Noir and Chardonnays. The tasting room is nice and large, also they have wonderful customer service and professional . Great winery to try and enjoy !

Yelp
Thank you for a wonderful tour Winery. We really enjoyed it. You're vineyards are beautiful. We enjoyed the wine tasting,I really enjoyed theLazy S Ranch Pinot Noir. I plan on ordering some a little later. Thank you so much. Judie and Robert Bell Louisiana Farm Bureau

Yelp
My first time going wine tasting since turning 21! It was a beautiful location. We did outside seating and were helped by Veronica and she was outstanding! She is very knowledgeable about the estate and the wine. She made me feel right at home. I will definitely be returning to Foley & I'll be asking for Veronica!
google avatar

Jackie D.

Yelp
The winery is beautiful and the vinyards surround the tastng room. The tasting room has soaring ceilings and a large bar. The steel cast chardonnay and Rose are very good here. Unfortunately they charge $10 for tastings even if you make a purchase. Nice place to picnic. Knowledgeable friendly staff
google avatar

Laura B.

Yelp
Great service. Alisha was very accommodating. She explained each wine on the tasting flight. She really knows her wines!
google avatar

Yelp
We had an incredible time hosted by Linda and Billie. We can't wait to be back and experience once again, we also purchased some wine and we can't wait to drink. Thank you ladies for a great wine tasting.

Yelp
Kevin gave us a great experience! Great selection of wine and souvenirs.

Debby L.

Yelp
Very pretty tasting room and exterior. The large room can hold large groups easily and there is a kitchen across from the bar to try all the different oils they get from Los Olivos. I tried so many tastings of wine, but did not like any. However, the kitchen was where this winery stood out. They were having an oil dipping tasting from Los Olivos. There was balsamic vinegar, garlic oils, extra virgin olive oils, etc. They paired it with different breads and even dessert things like ice cream! My favorite was the vanilla bean ice cream with strawberries and a dash of the balsamic vinegar. You wouldn't think balsamic vinegar would be good on ice cream, but wow. I bought a stackable set of oil and 18 year old aged vinegar to try at home. That night, we made that dessert and it was so yummy!
google avatar

Kevin A.

Yelp
SIDEWAYS WEEKEND: STOP #1 Jack and Miles didn't stop here in the movie, but my amigos and I were thirsty damnit! The tasting room is beautiful and the service was good (although they tried to scam us out of the last wine on the tasting list). All in all, I wasn't blown away by their wines. The chardonnays were too dry and acidic. The star of the show is their Barrel Select Pinot which runs about $50 a bottle. On to the next stop!
google avatar

Dawn A.

Yelp
Chardonnay and pinot noir were the best! Ask for Matt! He is extremely knowledgeable about the grounds, the terrain, and the wines! He takes great pics too. This is a great place to purchase souvineers! Lots of western antler decor and wine knick knacks. Bathrooms were immaculate and the foley handsoap was delightful! This is also a great spot to walk around and take pics. If I came back I would go closer to sunset. I bet the vineyard looks gorgeous when the sun is setting.
google avatar

Mike R.

Yelp
Beautiful winery. Friendly staff, and pretty good Pinot Noir. We tasted the flight offered. Bought a bottle of our favorite Pinot and sat at one of the tables on the front deck. Nice place. Do try.
google avatar

Maureen W.

Yelp
I've always liked Foley wines and enjoyed visiting their old site on the canyon road. This tasting room is beautiful. Large and roomy. The wine servers are wonderful. Very personable and knowledgeable. And I personally really enjoy Bill Foley's wines. Especially the Pinot. First rate. This section of Buellton is great for wine tasting. Melville, Babcock and Foley. But for me, Foley is the star! PS: The Foley wine club is a deal because Foley owns 8 wineries and you get special deals at all of them.
google avatar

Jenn R.

Yelp
We came to Foley on a Saturday morning for some wine tasting. It was $10 per person to taste. We started off with whites (mostly Chardonnays) and luckily we were able to taste the roset before moving on to the reds. The roset was a little to tart for my taste. I tend to enjoy more white wines, but I was attracted to their red wines here. Those of us who bought wine, we ended up buying red wines. Our wine tasting host was entertaining and awesome! The place itself is super cute. They have a patio in the front with picnic tables. We were able to bring our own food in, and there was also a food truck parked in front where some of us bought salads and sandwiches. They also sold cheese, olives and meat platters that we could have with our wine. They have a back patio, but it was closed because they were setting up for a wedding. I'm sure it's a super pretty place to have a wedding when it's all done and set up! I wish we were able to see glimpse of that set up.

Yelp
Nice winery, worth a visit - the grounds are beautiful. We came here once on a weekend wine trip, and a second time during the SF-LA AIDS bicycle ride. GROUNDS - Tasting room is very nice, with a huge fireplace, leather chairs, soaring wood ceilings and a large bar. Check out the fancy wood door too (I posted a pic), it's super-bling; or do they call that understated luxury? Whatever. WINES - 5 or 6 wines in the tasting. You keep the glass (Logo Riedel). Excellent pinot. Reserve Chardonnay is traditional, big oak style, regular Chardonnay is skippable. The Dry Rose was very good the first time I tasted it, just so-so second time around. Three stars for the wine, a fourth for the servers and grounds.
