On the Grid : Folly Antiques

"Since 1899, this address has been several businesses. Once a saddlery, then an ice-cream parlour, followed by an athletics shop, then finally joined by greetings cards and flowers. Fast forward to 2016 and Folly Antiques took hold. The shop has been restored as closely as possible to over a century ago, and now houses some of the finest Oriental Antiques in Scotland. The store is tastefully filled with furniture, vases, rugs and pictures. Not your thing? Don’t worry, there’s still retro and vintage items like glassware, jewellery, and niknaks from £5." - fourcolourblack

We stopped here during our trip to Edinburgh, an amiable owner with an excellent selection. They wrapped up the plates we purchased to ensure their safe trip back on our overseas flight.

A delightful shopping experience. Starting from the beautiful window display along Leith Walk which drew me inside, the interior is filled with a treasure trove of vintage and antique porcelain, glassware, silver jewellery, furniture and all sorts of ornaments. Even if you're not looking to buy anything, the owners are friendly and happy to chat. Very affordable. I'll definitely be back again!

Very affordable prices for beautifully presented items, which makes it a perfect gift shop. Owner Mark is so passionate about his furniture he can tell you enchanting stories about every item. I love going to that shop when I seek a bit of magic in Leith.

I visited Edinburgh for the first time and came across this antique shop. It has many different antique items and very interesting to look at and explore. The prices are reasonable and you can get something from just several pounds. The shopkeeper was very friendly and funny! I enjoyed my experience shopping there and will definitely pay another visit when I return to Edinburgh!

Folly Antiques is like a box of sparkling treasures, and always worth a visit - the stock changes rapidly, and there's a wonderful selection of everything from jewellery to armchairs. Very good for lamps, glassware and anything Oriental, there are often nice textiles, and some attractive pictures .

An unexpected delight! A proper antiques shop with a good range of stock at very reasonable prices. Lots of tempting things to take home or give as presents. The owner is friendly and clearly knows his stuff. I'll certainly be visiting it again.
