Guide to Folly Beach, South Carolina

"Folly Beach is technically a city on Folly Island, although its personality and attributes are more akin to your classic Southern beach town. It may be home to a variety of tourist attractions and shops, but there’s always a steady beat of originality that calls to both travelers and locals alike. Folly Beach has traditionally been a local gem, welcoming people from all walks of life to experience the true essence of South Carolina and the genuine spirit of Charleston. A great beach - not crowded at all. Water temperature was sweet. It was fun to swim and walk the pier. It is not full of tourists like many other beach spots are.

Enjoyed our visiting and definitely coming g back. A busy summer town and beach but people were nice and friendly. Lots to do and plenty of beach!

Adorable mostly empty beach with affordable parking. I’ll definitely be back!

Very nice place to visit. Lots of parking randomly placed and at beach access points. The beach parking and many street parking locations were pay by phone for 1 to 3 hours. We found some all day lots that were $10 to $20 depending on their location. The pier is closed for reconstruction but looks like it will be a significant upgrade when completed. Plenty of rental options for bikes, golf carts and beach gear.

We went to this beach for sunrise while camping in the area. It was so beautiful and had a light house along with other unique features. Very peaceful that time of morning.

A cool and relaxing beach in Charleston, perfect for a day trip or overnight stay. We visited in February when beaches are generally empty and water was freezing. We paid $5 for parking but peak season(Mar-Oct) parking is $15 for the entire day. The pier is clean, spacious and well-maintained. Public restrooms were clean as well. There is not much activity around but then again you want to come to this beach if you enjoy serene.
