The perfect place to stay for one night. It's very quiet, meditative place, perfect to make a pause and relax. Clean wood decorated rooms. Huge continental breakfast is included. Offers great Alpes view. There you may just seat, look around and breathe, there are no people, no vanity, just you and nature. Be aware - the restaurant closes at 7-8 pm, and there are no shops/bars etc. No chance to hang around, all nightlife is 2,5 km far in Chur, you can get there by taxi (30 francs) or by bus (the timetable is unknown).|

Stayed for three nights at the Fontana Passugg in May 2015, and we really loved this place. It was really different from anywhere we have stayed. Firstly we arrived around 6.30 pm and as everyone has said, there was no one there to greet us but ourkeys were on the front desk. This felt a little strange at the time. Wefound our roomwhich was quite nice and clean. There was not a sound and we thought we were the only ones staying there ! We had a great nights sleep and the next morning went down to breakfast. Breakfast was all laid out beautifully and was very nice. Lovely breads and cheese, meats and cereals.||We had such a relaxing time there and the staff were very helpful too. We even got our washing done.||I would recommend this hotel, just remember its a budget hotel so dont expect it to be five star. Plus get a taxi there as the road is very steep.

A lovely hotel, just 5min drive from Chur. There is a narrow bridge at the entrance, scary for the first time, but you get used to it on the following day. The rooms are nice and clean, the operator/manager, Dirk, is a friendly and helpful guy. Even made a barbecue for the guests on a Saturday evening. Breakfast was rich, with good selection of cheese, meat and coffee. We loved to stay there, and hope to go back one day.

We booked three rooms at this "hotel" after getting stuck in traffic, and missing our connection. What a wonderful surprise to find this beautifully restored guest house.||||The manager was very helpful via cell phone. Note: there was no staff on hand when we arrive, but we didn't need any. The rooms were extremely clean and quiet. The breakfast (included) was ample and delicious.||||The bonus were the hiking trails on the Fontana property. We enjoyed several hours of walking in the woods to the next mountain village.||||The approach road to Fontana is intimidating: curvy, up hill, and it includes a very narrow one-lane bridge. It was an adventure to get there, but WELL worth the effort.

We took the train into Chur, Switzerland and needed a hotel that was reasonably priced and close to Chur. This hotel was just what we were looking for. It was about 10 minutes away by taxi. I would not drive up to this hotel if you have anything bigger than a small car, the road is winding and narrow, as are the bridges. But...if you want a true taste of Switzerland, this is it! It is in an old Swiss Chalet that has been remodeled. It is unmanned, which means you just collect your key with your name on the envelope at the desk. The area is so beautiful, you look out over the small town of Churwalden. There is a nice breakfast in the morning that some young people came and set up with your typical European foods of pastries, cheese and meats, and of course, coffee! We loved it.

As part of a driving holiday in Switzerland and Germany, we decided to stay two nights in Chur but wanted a quiet, lower cost option. ||||The Hotel Fontana Passugg looked good online and in person was even better. This is what you think of when you picture Swiss Mountain retreats. While not high in the Alps, the views from our balcony and the surrounding common areas were breathtaking. The area was quiet and very private.||||The hotel is not staffed other than at breakfast in the morning. So expect to find your keys on the front desk and to see no one else other than passing a fellow guest in the hallway. Speaking of passing. You may not initially find the hotel as it is at the top of a NARROW, one-lane, winding road. If you run into someone going the opposite way, one of you has to back up. ||||Also the breakfast had less variety than others we had stayed at. It was missing a warm option (eggs or maybe oatmeal).||||While there is a front driveway/landing area by the front door, the parking is one switchback down hill by the neighbor's barn.

Breathtaking in more than one way. The views and the beautiful surroundings of course. But also the very steep, very narrow and very winding path to get there is an enervating experience on its own. Sufficient rooms and everything is up to standard. Just be prepared to go down that same road again for a dinner in the village, since the hotel has no restaurant. And up again after dinner, of course.

Beautiful little pensione at the top of a hill outside Chur. Up a narrow track with a very narrow bridge at the bottom! I arrived in the evening. The keys were left out for me. Room was comfortable and warm. Wifi working and fast. Staff friendly - when i finally met them. Only major complaint is that brekfast was VERY spartan! But would stay again for the beautiful location.
