Fonteverde Lifestyle & Thermal Retreat (San Casciano dei Bagni, Tuscany) 3 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"You know you’ve hit the big time when Galileo Galilei is your children’s science tutor. Only the fabulously wealthy and influential Medici family could pull it off — they also commissioned Florence’s Pitti Palace and produced three popes, a duke, and a couple of queens. They didn’t go halfway when it came to leisure, either, a fact that’s on fine display at the Fonteverde Resort in San Casciano dei Bagni — this used to be just one of their many lavish vacation villas." - Tablet Hotels

What a beautiful resort, and what an unforgettable treat! From the moment you step inside this five-star property, the attentive service, elegant accommodations, and incredible thermal pools—complete with waterfalls and jacuzzi jets—make you feel like royalty. When you add in the exceptional dinner and complimentary breakfast, you truly appreciate what a wonderful value it is to stay here. A heartfelt thank-you to every staff member we encountered, from the first greeter to the manager, Alessandra, all of whom made us feel completely at home. We look forward to returning the next time we’re in Tuscany.

Lovely, relaxing place. Everything went well overall. I didn’t stay at the hotel, so I didn’t see the rooms, but the common areas are clean and well kept, and the staff clearly do their best. The price feels fair and in line with the experience.

Wrapping up our 2 week European honeymoon with a 3 night stay at Fonteverde was the best choice we could have made. Lounging by the pool in the sun, reading a good book, and soaking up the healing powers of the thermal water was just want we needed. We also booked a facial that was relaxing and made my skin glow. I loved being able to come to breakfast in my robe and slippers, all set to start a relaxing day. We had a dinner at the restaurant one of the evenings that was somewhat less than stellar, mainly due to OUR limited Italian language, but the meal was still delicious! The front desk staff was kind and even help us set up a taxi service to bring us to and from another evening, which was a huge help in a small town and a country we don't speak the language. Thank you so much for adding to an unforgettable honeymoon, we cannot wait to come back!

I’m not really one to leave bad reviews but I felt genuinely disappointed by this experience so feel compelled to share it. I drove an hour and a half for what I wanted to be a relaxing spa experience in an beautiful location. I had looked into a number of places in the area around Florence and this looked to be a good offering with high prices but not top top end. On arrival to the spa, the facilities immediately felt tired. The reception and changing rooms all feel like a municipal sport center and are not representative of a high end spa connected to a five star hotel. The towel I was given was old and thin and looked faded from 1000 washes. At reception I was asked if I wanted to pay for access to the lower pool only or the upper one as well (around 50 euro for lower and 75 for upper). I decided the lower was enough. On entering the pool area, again it feel super dated. The deck chairs need updating and it lacks any charm. The thing I was most disappointed with was there was no view and it did not feel representative of the pictures I had seen online at all. I went to reception to express my disappointment and showed the pictures I had seen online. She told me the view I could see was from the upper pool and given my disappointment and that I had two treatments booked that afternoon she kindly allowed me access without paying more (important to note the staff were nice). Upstairs the reception area is certainly better and more up to date but again the deck chairs area has no view. There is a third upper pool but it is reserved for those at the hotel only. I decided to go up there anyway where fortunately no one stopped me. Here there is a view and it is much more representative of the pictures on the website but of course, I wasn’t supposed to be there. For food, the cafe is inside in what feels like a sport center. It was so uninviting I decided to skip lunch. In the afternoon I had a 70 min massage (140 euro) which was fine and a 50 min facial (140 euro) for which the therapist was out of the room for at least 15-20 minutes - not good. I left irritated I had driven so far and paid so much for an experience that was mediocre at best.

Overall a disappointing experience. I'll start with the good - The spa is excellent - heated pools. Towels and robes, good and courteous staff. Everything else - very disappointing. Very outdated hotel. From breakfast to rooms. There is a constant element of trying to milk you as much money as possible. For example, an Aperol Spritz at the hotel bar costs 20 euros. I haven't seen such a price in luxury hotels and restaurants all over Italy. The restaurant is also disappointing. Prices are expensive in a way that doesn't match the average food. I won't recommend it to my friends. This continues the hotel's overall experience of stubbornly trying to get as much money out of you as possible without a justifiable return (a bottle of soda for 10 euros, for example).

I have slightly mixed feelings about the hotel.|Fabulous Tuscan location, surrounded by olives and vineyards but beware it’s quite remote( which is not a negative just worth noting). Spa facilities are fantastic with natural (and really hot) thermal water but the hotel itself could have been better. This hotel belongs to the ‘Leading Hotels of the World’ group (or is a member of) but neither rooms nor restaurant were really up to standard.|The bathroom / bedroom were dated and for sure needed updating and bedding was not good enough. Restaurant staff were great but food lacked attention to detail and real quality. Two examples: on one of the evenings we selected beetroot dish with Greek Yoghurt and some|Greens- they left off the Greek yogurt but said nothing and also on one of the evenings served wine with a very noticeable chip in one of the glasses. |Enjoyed the stay- would I go back again, probably not!

Besides the Bar Tender, there was absolutely no service at the hotel! No Bell Man, no help w any luggage or parking. No service at pool. Food was marginal. Thermal pool was lovely other than that not much more! Also they let someone lock a barking dog in their room for 2 hours. They did nothing! Self Service Hotel!!!!

The overall experience at Fonteverde was excellent. The setting is stunning, the service attentive, and the spa facilities are truly outstanding. It’s a place made for relaxation and well-being. The only downside was the room, which felt somewhat worn and in need of refurbishment. However, this did not significantly detract from an otherwise exceptional stay. We would be happy to return.

Yelp
We did not stay here since we were in our own villa but instead stopped by for a drink at their fantastic bar. The setting is very elegant without being overly garish and there is plenty of seating, both at the bar and in the lounge. Drinks were a bit pricey but to be considered as it is a 4 star hotel. Staff was pleasant and we enjoyed the cocktails (I had a negroni). Some interesting shops off the lounge including a very good wine boutique featuring some vintage high end Tuscan wines at good prices. Well worth a visit.
