Critics Say the Impossible Burger Needs More Oversight

"In Fairbanks, Alaska, the greasy spoon Food Factory added the Impossible Burger last month; I noted they serve it with a side of cottage cheese and pineapple for a $1 upcharge." - Clint Rainey, Clint Rainey

Had dinner at the Food Factory and it was a fantastic experience! The staff was friendly, the service was quick, and the food was top-notch. I ordered the Cheeseasaurus Burger and it was absolutely delicious—juicy, cheesy, and packed with flavor. One of the best burgers I’ve had in a long time. Highly recommend this place if you’re looking for a great meal and a laid-back atmosphere!

Best cheesesteak I’ve had in town! The Fairbanks chicken sandwich was amazing. Love the house made raspberry habanero sauce on it. Great spot for comfort food and classic favs.

Google
Great place to grab a bite if you’re ever in Fairbanks, AK. Located close by Costco and other shopping. Food and customer service is great, very friendly staff, Amy was my server and treated us like family. This place has a menu for kids also, lots to choose from. Highly recommended!

The dining experience here is pretty consistent. On occasion the food is a miss but 90% of the time it is worth the money. The staff is usually friendly and pleasant. I do not recall ever having a bad serving experience, though at times service has been slow due to volume. In my opinion, Food Factory is a solid option to dine-in for a relaxed meal. It is almost sports bar-ish with the large TVs, but no bar. It has that relaxed vibe.

Today I was trying to get a couple things for takeout … googled the restaurant and found it was supposed to be open until 5 pm. I was there about 4:45 pm and when I walked in the girl at the register told me that they always closed at 4 pm. It was disappointing to say the least. Someone needs to update the website information. Went back today and had dinner. Ordered the chef salad. It was a large plate of salad, enough for two. Also ordered the fish and chips … fish was really good, chips not so much. I’m glad I went back.

Google
Restaurant is spacious and clean. Service was great, he was attentive and planned ahead as I was waiting for someone but pre-ordered. Have had many of the burgers and sandwiches and never disliked any of them. Always get the steak fries and never under/over cooked.

Yummy food, great service, and a good atmosphere! We had cheesesteaks and they were awesome!

Yelp
Eh.... At best. For the food quality it's over priced, it's nothing special. The flavor isn't bad, the server was nice, but in the end i struggled to give this place more than 2 stars. We walked in and had to find someone to seat us. Then they sat us and came back and made us move for another family, to the table right next to us, why? I dunno, but what i can say is our food took over 1.5 hrs to come out, that families food came out in 30 min max. Another couple came in and they got their food within minutes as well. Mind you, nobody came by to apologize or forewarn that there was a delay in getting food out. When our food did finally arrive my fries were cold, my wife's fries were cold, and when i bit into my burger it was cold. I can deal with delays if it's communicated, but food Coming out cold after waiting over an hour is inexplicable. Then the fact that the food that did make it to my family was subpar just means i wouldn't recommend, not at this time. Waiter did remove my meal so not all is lost and he was very polite

Yelp
We came for dinner as we were looking for some good basic food. The cheesesteak was just ok, adult grilled cheese was a basic grilled cheese that was just overpriced, it tasted exactly like the kids grilled cheese, which we also happened to get so we were able to compare. The Wam Bam chicken tenders were fine. Caesar salad was also fine. The Lonestar jalapeño bagel was quite frankly, possibly the worst burger I've ever had in my life. I took one bite of it, and after suffering through that, I just couldn't bring myself to take another bite. It was incredibly dry, overcooked, and honestly, the meat was gray and tasted like sawdust. Really awful! Dalton was our waiter, and when we arrived there, was not at all busy. Still, it took us about 25 minutes before he came to take our drink order. We should have known then, that we were in for a long night. he rarely checked on us, we had to flag him down to ask for more water because every one of us had empty cups for some time. Once finished eating we waited for 20-30 mins for Dalton to return and say "It looks like you guys have slowed down." We had stacked all the plates on the table and had just been sitting. After that, we ended up having the scan the receipt to pay since he didn't check on us again. I think we are pretty patient group, but we went for a quick dinner and ended up spending over an hour just waiting for service. We were there for a little over two hours total which is crazy. Incredibly disappointed in this restaurants food and staff.

Yelp
Vegan and vegetarian options. This was a good place to go to get some protein while in town!

Yelp
Went to Food Factory today for lunch and it was fantastic! My BLT was full of bacon, lettuce was crisp and tomato was ripe and juicy. I had chosen clam chowder instead of fries but ended up with both. The chowder was a little too thick for me but I added a little water and it was delicious. Tasted a fry or two and they were crispy and fresh if I had room would have finished them off. Washed it down with a ice cold Stella and was way more happy than any of those clams

Yelp
If you want a good burger & onion rings in Fairbanks, this place is a sure bet. It's nothing super great to get too exited about, but you're not gonna have a bad meal.

Yelp
Visiting Fairbanks, AK and my kids really wanted us to try this family restaurant. Game on the TV & a load of options on the menu. We tried a Cobb salad, coconut shrimp tacos, side salad, and a delicious Philly cheesesteak on cauliflower rice, no fries. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was decent. Definitely check it out!

Yelp
A great option to consider if you are in Fairbanks. This casual dining restaurant is great to grab a casual dinner or lunch at on any day of the week. Their menu offers a wide selection of items to order, and their food always tastes good. Their service is decent, but the restaurant can get busy on the weekend. Overall a great place to dine at in Fairbanks.

Yelp
TVs | Wings | Chill TVs - the place is ideal for watching a game, Saturday college football, or Sunday NFL football. They have tons of TVs all over the place, and you have great views of multiple from pretty much every seat in the house. Wings - I had the 1/2 lb bbq boneless wings with a side of tater tots. Overall the meal was pretty good. The wings were tasty and well-seasoned. The tots were properly salted (not too much, not too little). The wings come in 1/2, 1, and 1.5 lb increments. However, they cannot mix and match flavors for the 1/2 lb size, which is a bit of a bummer. I would highly recommend the meal I got if you are moderately hungry. The half lbs had about 8-10 boneless wings that took about 1 to 1.5 bites each. Chill - Overall, it has a chill vibe. It is great for big groups to congregate or families to share a meal. The dress is very relaxed. So come as you are. Why not five stars?: - Service was less than stellar. They brought us the wrong people's checks twice. Then they handed us someone else's credit cards at the end. It was pretty busy, so I am only docking 0.5 points for this. The other 0.5 points are deducted because it was super noisy, and the price was a bit stiff. Pro tip - there is a lot of parking, so there is no need to plan for extra time. Pro tip - call ahead to see if there is a line/wait. It is a pretty popular spot on game day. So, try to plan your arrival around the game windows.

Yelp
Make sure to tell the server if she got something wrong on the order so they can fix it with hopes they don't spit in the replacement. Don't write an honest review because they will not take anything you say to improve the level of service they claim to provide. Just be careful when ordering food from "Food Factory " in Fairbanks, Alaska You have been warned

Yelp
So went to Food factory a couple weeks back, and had to wait to be seated because staff would rather talk about tv shows and partying then seating customers. Right away I noticed the busser gal who had a pissed off attitude. She wouldn't say "excuse me" when pushing past us who are waiting to be seated. So, I ordered a Bacon cheese steak and for $22 bucks, it was small and maybe 20 fries with it. The atmosphere was that of a food joint with what little staff they had being overwhelmed. I ate my cheesesteak, and didn't say anything, cause the waiter was more interested in hanging with his friends 2 tables down. I ordered some Denali Gold, it wasn't what it was 20 years ago, it was watery and had a weird taste to it. So with all the above and the loud staff in back still talking loudly about partying and what not, I paid and left.

Yelp
It definitely has that curb appeal that screams "family dining, check us out." It's an interesting restaurant. It's maintained to where it's noticeable enough to stop in. Exterior is inviting and the interior is well maintained. The menu is super extensive and it has everything you want and need and more! Including shakes! I would describe it as, "the Cheesecake Factory, but on American food classics, excluding the Cheesecake Factory's items and more casual dining experience." So, with this extensive menu..the quality is definitely in question...and to my surprise, the food is good. The shakes are good, food was ok, atmosphere was very family casual and the service was really really great.

Yelp
We were sat quickly and our server was super nice. The menu has LOTS of choices, so you may want to look at those pictures to have an idea of the choices. We ordered the Little Human's meals first of mac n' cheese and a kid's cheeseburger and fries to give us more time to peruse the menu. We decided on the Ruben with onion rings and Extreme Snowboarder Mushroom Blue Cheese Burger (minus the mushrooms)With curly fries. The Ruben looked really good, but the meat was dry and needed more dressing. The onion rings were battered and just a tad overdone. The blue cheese burger was really good and the curly fries were fried perfectly.

Yelp
For this town, 5 stars means it's good food. So when I give this 5 stars, it's not because the food is incredible. It just means the food is better than anything around. That said, the Philly cheese steaks are tasty. The cheese was melted into the meat and mushrooms and onions. The bun wasn't overly baked, so it was nice that it wasn't crazy crunchy. We got the cheese sticks as an appetizer and they are good. The Jalapeno ones are better than the plain, in my opinion, but they are both still good. Service was good. They told us to sit where we wanted but it did take quite a while to have a waitress come. Once she did, it was great service. The only true complaint about the place is it is a bit pricey for what you get. The cheese steaks are over $20 a piece and the appetizers range from $10-20. I'm not sure it's worth it for the price, but at least the food was better than everything else in town.

Yelp
Everything we ordered tasted great, including the chowder soup, which is a very common dish everywhere. Personally I enjoyed the works very much-all the ingredients offered a great combo of flavors that created pleasing fireworks in my mouth and brain (that Ratatouille scene, if you know what I mean; if not, just know I loved the dish). The server was incredibly sweet, patient, and understanding. When my younger sister unreasonably tried to order four dishes for herself and did not listen to us, the server nicely reminded her that would be a lot of food and avoided a terrible waste.

Yelp
First time visiting Fairbanks. Came here for the "Vegan Works Cheesesteak." Best cheesesteak I have had! Very impressed. The service and staff were great too. Ample seating

Yelp
Today's visit to Food Factory was exactly what we expected. Our history with this restaurant is very extensive to say the least (worked there many, many, many years ago) and I must say the food tastes exactly as it did back when. The Buffalo wings are absolutely perfect the best I've had anywhere and trust me because I've tried them everywhere we've been across the USA. Hubby had the shrimp basket which was delicious with the perfect breading to shrimp ratio the fries were hot & tasty. I ordered the kids bacon cheesesteak which was huge for a kids size serving. Everything tasted hot fresh & delicious. Only drawback was we were the 1st customers of the day & it was a rather long wait for our food & hubby's unsweetened iced tea was disappointing. Other than that everything was great.

Yelp
3.5/5 We'd been planning to visit here for a while now. We always pass it, it's a good location. The interior isn't the cleanest but it's not the worst. It's like a family restaurant. There were quite a few people in during lunch. The service is really nice and they were very attentive. Portions are big. We got the bacon cheese tater tots. We loved them, the tots and bacon bits were nice and crispy. The cheese was generous and warm. It was very filling for the two of us. We also got a Rueben and chicken fingers. The Rueben was a little hard to eat because the meat wasn't sliced as thinly as we're used to in Rueben's, and we've had a lot of Rueben's. The chicken fingers tasted a bit over cooked but they were still good. They were just large and a little too hard. A bit hard to mess those up. The fries were fine as well, not life changing. We also shared an oreo milkshake which was very yummy. We ended up taking our entrées home because they were a little difficult to eat. We don't think we'll be back as we have a lot more places to try.

Yelp
Food and service was good. Two things I would say that was bad .. was the sweet tea .. it tasted like bleach water ... Everything else was really good. And they don't toast their bread buns on the sandwiches so be aware for just plain sub buns

Yelp
Food took an absurd amount of time. Could've played xbox, took a shit, and get a haircut before my food came out. Servers were nice and funny. We were joking around. I have currently lost my god damm appetite because of the absurd time consumption spent drinking pink lemonade. Can't even do a proper rating because all my food didn't even come. Be better. The food was good. I recommended. One of the chefs ran into me in bathroom. Should quit and become a voice actor. Boy he sounded like Johnny depp. My food took a solid 3 apples ( hours). If I EVER COME BACK my food better be quick or someone getting sued. jackeatz out
google avatar

Alex H.

Yelp
The food is okay, yet worth a pretty penny. The fried pickles are $12 but the amount you actually get is worth $6. Also, if you're looking for some lighter options the healthy options selection is just vegan grilled cheeses, burgers, and cheesesteaks. That's their "healthy options". The healthiest thing under that section might be their veggie cheese fries. The salads are also uninspiring with minimal veggies in sight. It's just different meat, cheese and dressing options on iceberg lettuce.

Yelp
Friendly, efficient and good philly cheese steaks. I don't like fat and gristle, and these steaks are lean, thin and delicious. Mine was loaded with bacon and the famous mustard gave it a lift with some tang. American style comfort food.

Sade E.

Yelp
Staff was very unprofessional when directing us to our table, waitress did not check up on us after getting food. And the cleanliness of the restaurant was terrible.

Yelp
They have an extensive menu. There's something for everyone. The service was phenomenal! Our drinks are always full and the waitress checked on us frequently.

Yelp
First the price of one cheese steak was $21. that's ridiculous. So my wife and I order two thinking ya they are real good........NOT!! We got them and it's was garbage. Way way too much cheese and the meat tasted old. Terrible flavor. Five to six steak fries. For the money it was not worth even speaking. I've lived here sense 1979 and have ate at the Food factory when BIG BOB opened on south cushman st. I've experience the decline of quality of the food right to the present day today. I will never eat there again. Your better off throwing your money in the trash can. It's sad to because it used to be a great place to eat where you know what you were getting. Not anymore!!!!!

Anthony G.

Yelp
Went to the food factory today, nice setting and was clean, very friendly staff. I ordered a grilled cheese, had a slight problem with it, they fixed it with no problems. Will be back

Yelp
So I never do a review off the first interaction/visit. My first visit with FF was amazing. Had good service and the food wasn't bad. I was actually pretty shocked at how good it was. But as my second visit, I will say this has COMPLETELY destroyed my views on the restaurant. The milk shake and fry's was the best part of my meal. I was throughly disappointed, the burger was completely messed up. Burnt, mushrooms were burnt, and the entire burger was disgustingly greasy.

T B.

Yelp
My heart partner and I stopped in for an appetizer and drinks. He had pretzels with the cheese sauce. They were good a little bit dry not as soft as I like. I wish they would have had the spicy dip but they were out. I had a cup of french onion soup it was good. The waitress was really fast and efficient. I did not try any of the other food so I'll leave a review next time.

Yelp
stopped in last year with family, while on vacation. The service was odd, but the food made up for it. I got a burger, my boyfriend wings. Everything was hot, cooked well, and we simply enjoyed the atmosphere. They seemed a bit perplexed my INFANT was in a car seat/stroller in the aisle (where no one had to walk) but I guess they expected me to leave him in the car?? I will come back tho lol just not with my little.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place but after our dining experience yesterday probably won't be returning. My mother in law found a hair in her food and all the waitress said was "well our cook is a redhead so I don't know how that happened" then fast forward to the day after, my mother in law got sick. I am not feeling well and same with husband.

Jeffrey D.

Yelp
I didn't tell you to work here! WTF waiters slamming dirty menus on the table. This place gets worse and worse. So glad Friar tucks is in town! Better food, beer and people.
google avatar

Victoria F.

Yelp
This place was great! We were greeted and seated right away and our waitress was very attentive. They have a good sized menu with burgers as their main focus, something my husband loves. They also offer salad entrees and some healthier choices. They did not disappoint!

Miranda J.

Yelp
FF was once my favorite restaurant, over the last few years it's really gone to the pits. We've tried coming back a couple times and the service continues to get worst. Food is cold and flavorless and the service is terrible. I highly recommend going anywhere else, you have better luck at McDonald's than this place. Food Factory doesn't even deserve one star
google avatar

Angie B.

Yelp
Went during Corona months. Service was very quick and friendly. Food was a bit pricey overall. However we enjoyed our experience. Started off with cheese curds. Basically bite size mozzarella sticks. Tasty. Boys got a juicy burger. I got the lunch chicken strips and chose the french onion soup instead of fries. Kids cheesesteak and grilled cheese were yummy. I will order the cheesesteak myself next time for sure.

Yelp
Just visiting fairbanks , heard pretty good reviews, decided to check it out ..... exactly what I expected .... a lot of flavor going on ... very large portion had to skip desert ... bummerrrrr

Tracy K.

Yelp
The service was good but my son had hair in his macaronni and cheese. The waiter replaced it woth a new batch but it just wasn't good. They did take it off our bill. Also my husband had coffee grounds in his coffee mug. And a lot of them. Yuck!! We won't be going back.
google avatar

Randall B.

Yelp
Not a big fan. It's fine, not great. Poutine was pretty bland. Garlic shrimp had a lot of garlic, perhaps that's not a bad thing, but it's heavy on garlic. Option on menu was turn any wrap or cheesesteak into a rice bowl. It was good too. I enjoyed my cheesesteak as well. Priced appropriately for good (not great) food. I'll be back
google avatar

Yelp
I have been a fan of the Food Factory since small shop on S.Cushman since moving to new location food seems to becoming midcore .liked stopped trying .. There philly steaks lacking there characteristic cheesiness/just made freshness seemed been made earlier just set aside .. My son was not impressed with his burger either .. could be cooks bad day last few times not as good as normal ,we go normal 2-3 x month .. for years .. they need to work on there quality little more .

Yelp
Always bet on the Original Cheesesteak with steak fries! I use to work at the original store on S. Cushman years ago and from day one the Original Cheesesteak has always been my favorite and after all these years...it still the same delicious cheesesteak I remember.

Yelp
I stopped in try the Food Factory while visiting Fairbanks and wasn't disappointed in the least. The atmosphere was a little less humble than many of the other area restaurants, and I was glad to feel like I was eating in a restaurant that had put some thought into creating a little atmosphere. There was a whole page of Philly cheesesteaks on the menu, so I felt like I should probably have one, since it appeared to be one of their specialties. I decided to go with the Retro-STROGGIE, which is a beef stroganoff-style cheesesteak made with beef, onions, mushrooms and sour cream. I honestly hadn't ever seen anything like it on a menu before, so I knew it was either going to be really good or a huge mistake. I'm happy to say that it was pretty tasty and is indeed something I'd order again. The sandwich was flavorful without going too heavy on the cream, so it held up well as a sandwich. I was pleased to discover that the bread was very tender as well but managed to stay intact as I ate the sandwich. Just the fact that I could eat it pretty much in it's entirely without it falling apart was a testament to the thought that went into the sandwich. Lastly, the steak fries it came with were great and cooked just right. They were a little crispy in the outside and just soft enough on the inside. If you have a chance to check out this restaurant, I would. It's definitely worth the trip.

Yelp
I used to eat here all the time in the 90s when I was in the army. The cheesesteaks were amazing.

Yelp
Stopped in because hubby was craving a philly cheese steak. Arrived at 800pm. Restaurant wasnt busy, a few tables full here and there. We were seated right away. Waitress brought us a round of waters (3 adults + 2 kids), asked if we wanted crayons and color paper for the little kiddies. Waited 10 minutes before she came back to take our orders. No color crayons for kids. So they went and got it themselves. Our order took 25 minutes before it hit the table and during the 25 minutes our waitress never came to check up on us. She was standing with other waitresses giggling and laughing. We ordered: Deep fried pickles Mushroom cheese steak Side salad Potato soup Clam chowder Chicken strips & fries - kid Penne pasta - kid The food was ok. The soup was good not the best. Salad came with dressing, i asked for more, and she didnt bring any. The penne pasta was dry, my daughter didnt eat it. The chicken strips was dry, not moist, my other daughter didnt eat it. We ordered dessert, which took 10 minutes. Btw the waitress didnt clear our table when the dessert came. We cleared our own table and had to ask someone else to take it. She gave us 1 spoon and there was 5 of us. I had to walk up and ask another waitress for extra spoons. What the??? Deep fried brownies It was loaded with 3 vanilla ice cream scoops and a bottle of raspberry sauce. Wayyy too much sauce. Holy smokes! There was more sauce than brownies. Lol. Total tab was $55.00. We are not going back. Sorry. Service was bad.

Yelp
They charge for ranch........ enough said. Tried the avocado burger sub turkey and pepper jack. (I can make a better one at home with better seasonings) The waitress rolled her eyes at me like I had a super complicated order. Rude. It wasn't even that busy the night we went but the food took longer then normal. Also we stayed a while after we paid to chat and she kept giving us dirty looks like they were out of tables or something. Idk just not a good first impression. I won't be returning. Everyone is right about this place
google avatar

Yelp
Service was good. Very attentive. Food was good especially the wings! To die for! Didn't wait too long for appetizers or our main dish. All in all great experience

Amy A.

Yelp
Yum!! I enjoyed my Asian salad. It was just perfect as far as the taste and size. The service was prompt and our waitress was attentive. We don't have a chain in my state, but if we did, I would be a regular. The ambiance was family friendly and professional.

Yelp
It seems like it's been a little hit and miss for a while, but the past visit we had was a real hit! We tend to be later diners on Saturdays, so we popped by Food Factory to grab something since they have a good sized menu and they were open. They were very nice to us, and our server made sure everything we needed was taken care of (THANK YOU!!!) she was great about keeping our drinks refilled too. Their food is good, It's not my favorite in town, but it's decent. It was nice to go there since we could have very different options and both be happy too due to the varied menu. It was a pleasant experience for us and nice to know places are good to later evening customers.

Yelp
My favorite place to eat since I was a kid. Cheese fries are the best! I love the atmosphere and it's a great place to take kids.

T.J S.

Yelp
This restaurant takes an untraditional approach to dining that doesn't quite make the bar. If untraditional is your style this is the place for you. Upon seating they'll have you wait about 14 minutes to speak to you. Some may ask if you'd like a drink but they would prefer to be outside the box. After you look like you're just about to leave they'll real you in by taking your order. Of course by now you'll have your drink, appetizer, and entree order ready so you'll give them everything. Again untraditionally they won't bring you the drink you've ordered until you have food. Some places might try to get you to order a second drink for your meal for the added revenue but they prefer empty tables over a possible profit. Once you get your food it's not terrible, you'll enjoy it and that drink long enough to stare at that empty glass of disappointment for just long enough to crave another but ask yourself how much time that'll cost you. If you're like me and craving that frosty 2 buck beer you'll request another with the check and what you don't pay in cash it'll cost you time. When they finally get it to you you'll have contemplated canceling it, you'll attempt to add up the tab to leave cash, they'll start putting chairs up and you'll wonder if your invisible. That's just there style like I said it's an untraditional restaurant it's not for me, but if that's what you're into then they're definitely 5 stars at being subpar.

Yelp
My favorite place to eat in Fairbanks. Highly recommend the buffalo chicken Mac and Cheese. In 2 years coming here I've never had bad service or a bad meal.

Yelp
This is quite possible my favorite go-to restaurant for a relaxed night out. The burgers are incredible, always hot, and the ingredients are always fresh. For an appetizer, I recommend the Pull Apart Fries. The place is well ventilated and the atmosphere is relaxed and causal.
