Food for Friends

Very nice food with many gluten free and vegan options. Sweetcorn ribs and tofu were great. Potatoes were a bit disappointing - without a sauce they didn’t have much taste. It’s quite pricey for the amount of food you get. The service was nice and friendly.

This was a delicious restaurant that my partner and I tried on a whim when we were visiting Brighton for the Solstice. I would say that the biggest indicator for me that I would probably enjoy the food is that I peeked at the table next to me, where someone had ordered a portobello burger. I don't particularly enjoy portobello burgers, but this one looked so good that I was somewhat wistful about not ordering it. This restaurant's menu stated something about the restaurant wanting the vegetable to stand on their own, and I think that worked really well for what I considered the standout dish, which was the carrot-and-squash soup. It was light, filling, and just sweet enough to trigger my taste buds without being too sweet, which is an issue I find with a lot of squash/apple/carrot soups. The other standout was actually the harissa aioli that came with the fries; it was subtly smoky, to be sure, but something else about it really grabbed me. The fries were good, don't get me wrong, but I would slather that aioli on anything (and we ended up scraping the rest of it out of the cup with our side bread). The warm beetroot salad was delicious as well. I thought that the prices were reasonable, but I do think if you are particularly price conscious visiting with someone else and sharing two or three small plates would make the pricing more palatable. We ended up getting our own bowls of soup and then sharing the fries and the salad, plus drinks for both of us (the drink pictured in this review was my partner's, and though I sipped it, I don't think that I can give a fair review of it here). Anyway, this food left us feeling full, but in a light way, and I thought that the light touch on the preparation did in fact let the stars of the show, the vegetables, stand out all the more.

Caveat! I am writing this after an espresso martini and glass of bubbles. So, I'm glowing. This was a meal for one. So, I didn't need to share the fries and delicious chilli allioli that accompanied my excellent veggie burger which was a bonus. The menu, interior and crowd are interesting without being crazy. The only crime is the wine list doesn't have a desert wine to wash down the banging Basque Cheese Cake. The sound level was set to Goldilocks. Not to loud or quiet. Perfect level of chatter. People around me could hold a conversation without shouting. Increasingly rare in a busy place. I will definitely come again. Next time with friends, so I can taste their food too and hop, skip and jump through the menu. (And to think I was going to stop for an emergency McDonald's en route to Brighton.) Staff were attentive, calm and not affected. Really good.

Both me and my partner have been vegetarians for a few months now, for Valentine’s Day I decided buy us vouchers for Food for Friends as it’s local to us and the reviews looked great. We booked a table for the Sunday just gone. It did not disappoint! We were greeted by lovely friendly staff , one showed us to our seats and provided us with menus and talked us through the specials. We were delighted with what the menu had to offer, the wine list was great too. We both picked the Indian inspired butternut Swash roast which came with all the trimmings. The portion was great and the taste was incredible. We will definitely be back and will be recommending this to everyone as a great place to visit!

I had the scrambled eggs with mushrooms on toast- different and delicious. The pancakes with banana and chocolate were the perfect sweet treat. Great service and beautiful presentation. Definitely a great spot for breakfast!

Been coming for 8+ years and always have the best experience - lovely food and lovely staff! Our personal fave is the thai noodle salad!

My girlfriend and me had a lively evening, we was served by Nate who had a really cool suit on. The service was very good and we was seated very quickly, the atmosphere was so nice with grata lighting and beautiful pictures on the walls. The food was so good, and definitely recommend it to people. We will definitely come back.

Cute space near The Lanes in Brighton. The sharing platter gave us a chance to try a bunch of dishes from their veg friendly menu. All ok, though none that I'd order again. It's a pretty presentation on a plate piled high with a scotch egg, quinoa salad, fried halloumi sticks with too sweet chili sauce, a single piece of pickled cauliflower, ok salad with one carrot and no beets. The spread of hummus was ok, the romesco sauce a bit better. Everything just wanted a bit more salt, acid, or heat. Glad we tried it, but don't need to return.

This place came highly recommended by locals. As a carnivore I can appreciate eating just vegetables but this place sorely disappointed. Why you cancel your reservation (the -'s): - Service was below par. We were seated and ignored for 15-20 minutes. - Execution of meals were not timely. Even the waiter apologized for the delay. We waited an hour for our food. - Tempeh skewers had flavor only because it was drowned in a sauce. Without it the food would have been bland. The star of the meal should be the ingredients themselves. Apparently taste could not be coaxed from the ingredients. - The meals tasted flat and one-note. I have had great vegetarian fare but their horseradish potatoes (tasted none) and the oyster mushrooms were lackluster. I had to salt and pepper my entree to get some flavor. Why you keep your reservation (the +'s): + I can't think of a reason why you would. I would not return. For the price I paid, I got poor service, a bland meal and an unworthy credit card charge.

No line? Awesome. Beautiful setting, friendly waitress, and absolutely gorgeous, stunning, colorful food? Wow. Even though this restaurant really is a splurge, if you're a fan of vegetarian food, this place pleases visually and in flavor. The tasting platter isn't generous in items as most of it sits on uncooked quinoa and tahini sauce. (At least they're tasty and "aesthetic.") the scotch egg was really delicious, as was the kofta. The salad was forgettable. The haloumi cheese sticks were so so so addicting. The tahini trio is a must. If you enjoy pita chips and hummus, this is nearly the same. Seriously, the presentation here is on point. The arancino was honestly so surprisingly good. It's like a good ole potato ball but healthier? Sadly it's quite expensive for just 3, but this whole meal split between three girls was enough.

YUM!!! Warning to those meat eaters: VEGETARIAN RESTAURANT! This was one of the best portebello mushroom I have ever had!! it was delicious!!!!!!!!! Portebello mushroom with Sun-dried tomotoes-feta cheese and sour cream on top, and aspargus and fried sweet potatoe on the side--drizzle with pesto sauce=) one of the best meals I have had in Brighton! Try it! If you're in the area, great place to gather some close friends to join u here. Not a great place for big group though!

Glam, romantic (in the evening anyway) veggie restaurant with flawless presentation and a banging soundtrack at an acceptable volume. The service was slow - I had to hail a waiter after we'd been there about 20 minutes - but, we were happy chatting away and weren't in a hurry. A couple of us ordered the 'sharing' platter for one, which is touted as a light main. It's huge! I didn't care for the tofu, which was almost flavourless, but the rest was super, especially the pie-type thing with rice inside (descriptive, I know). Plus, I lost my vegetarian Scotch egg virginity that night. It was pretty good. Dare I say, I liked it better than the meat version. Others ordered veggie burgers and seemed content. They certainly looked satisfying accompanied by chunky chips almost bigger than the burger. We were all stuffed, so naturally we ordered dessert. I shared a vegan choc torte. It looked incredible, but it was disappointing. Too much of a marzipan taste (I can't stand the stuff). Sometimes you just can't beat double cream. Sticky toffee went down well, as did ice-cream in a brandy butter basket. I know that vegan food can be absolutely outstanding, it just wasn't here. Were I to revisit, I'd stick firmly to the veggie options. All things considered, a big, green thumbs up.

To preface, I am not a vegetarian. I met a colleague here for lunch and we were both thoroughly impressed with the food. The service was very efficient as well. I would highly recommend! I ordered a ravioli special that was presented on their lunch menu. It was phenomenal. I will certainly be back.

I visited Brighton as a day trip from London and on a whim we decided to go to this restaurant for dinner. We didn't have reservations which apparently is needed - the staff sort of shames you and puts you at a bad table if you don't have a reservation. The service in general was really strange there so unfortunately I had to knock this review down one star. The food is fantastic. The bread is just OK but the dipping sauces are tasty. The sweet tofu pockets are AWESOME, the coconut curry is really good, and frankly I forgot the name of another main dish but it came with pomegranate in the quinoa - also really good. This is a great place for vegans and vegetarians alike! Again - make sure to get a reservation here or go really early for dinner.

I took my sister here for Sunday lunch and it was a real treat. I was greeted by the restaurant manager with a big beaming smile, and taken to the seat IN THE CURVED WINDOW (aka winning on the table front). I was nervous about a vegetarian Sunday roast - but fear not! It was delicious. We both had the veggie filo roast which was tomato, mushroom, cheese and rice filled (crispy to the touch, ie perfect). It came with wood smoked beans, sweet carrots, great roasties and a yorkie pud. We were both comfortably full by the end but thought "sod it" and got an apple and pear frangipane with lavender ice cream and then we both fell to the floor AND DIED because it was so damn beautiful. My sister also had a Bluebird Strawberry Lemonade tea which she really loved. We had a little trouble getting our waitors attention towards the end but left feeling satisfied. Decor is Lovely and staff are all super friendly. No wonder it has such a good rep. NB: They do free sparkling water.

Had a nice birthday lunch for my wife here today with a friend of ours. Was a Tuesday but was still packed. Now first off I am a carnivore but had heard good things after a terrible experience at terre terre a while back. Thankfully fff was great from the moment we arrived. Attentive but not too attentive staff, who very kindly replaced a bottle of beer that got knocked over at their cost. The starters were fabulous, particularly the sharing platter. Mains were also great and there was a huge selection of desserts that all sounded fabulous. I won't harp on just check out the photos. So long story short this was great, even for carnivores. Will definitely be back!

Last night I finally had the opportunity to dine at Food for Friends - something that has been on my to-do list since I moved to Brighton several years ago! Every time I walk past this place I breath in a plethora of incredible smells and each time I am tempted to abandon whatever plans I am en-route to and feast upon some glorious vegetarian food instead! With the announcement of their spectacular 'buy one main, get another free' offer, in honour of National Vegetarian Week, the was no more delaying it! I called up and booked myself and a friend in and let the excitement build, wondering whether the experience would truly meet my high expectations. The food was just as I had expected - absolutely, mouth-wateringly delicious! Each course not only looked incredible, but tasted as good as I could have hoped, with fantastic flavours and ingredients to die for. My friend and I shared the ricotta, basil and dill dumplings and a duo of tahini dips to start with, both of which were fantastic. The dumplings in particular were really special though, we both agreed - such powerful flavours in such tiny little things. I then opted for the open ravioli, while my friend enjoyed the lentil and sweet potato burger. All in all, the food was just right! The portions were perfect and it all tasted truly delicious. As a non-vegetarian, and actually somewhat of a meat-lover, I didn't miss meat for one second during this meal. There are no thoughts of 'oh, that was nice, but it would have been nicer with some chicken' - the food is perfect as it is! The restaurant's endeavour to encourage meat eaters to give vegetarian food a try must surely have been successful, I'd say! I challenge any meat-eater/veggie-hater to come here and not enjoy every mouthful of their meatless meal.. I could go on and on about this place, but I'm going to stop here and simply say - go and try it out for yourself! I can't imagine many people leave here feeling hard done by! :) If you're looking for fine dining in Brighton, this is the place for you!

Now, I'm as carnivorous as the next (wo)man, but Food for Friends could turn me into a vegetarian (well, maybe for a week!). The restaurant is situated in the heart of the Lanes. Grab a table by the window and it's a great place to watch the world go by while enjoying a tasty, healthy vegetarian feast. The specialise in fresh seasonal ingredients and the menu changes frequently to reflect this. They have also released a cookbook so you are free to try and re-create their dishes at home should you wish. I have eaten here a couple of times and have been impressed on both occasions. Last time I came in the evening and was able to supplement my lovely healthy dinner, with some not-so-healthy but absolutely fabulous cocktails. My most recent visit was for lunch and I stuck to the soft drinks, however the lime and lemongrass presse meant that I could have something tasty and refreshing, and a little different from the norm. For lunch I had the savoury Parmesan and sun-dried tomato beignet. It was really rich and tasty although it could have done with a little more tomato to balance it slightly better. The beignets were served with spinach, broccoli, garlic and herb crushed new potatoes, and a creamy truffled Marsala wine and pink peppercorn sauce. My dining companion had the tandoori haloumi masala which she said was amazing. No room on this occasion for puds but I'll certainly be back again for a top up of vitamin c, and maybe a few cheeky cocktails just to balance things out.

I went here whilst visiting Brighton (I live in plymouth). I have been a vegetarian for 9 years now and struggle to find many nice vegetarian restaurants down where I live. When I knew I was coming to Brighton I immediately googled vegetarian restaurants. This one came up. After looking at photos of the food I decided to try and get a table. Me and my boyfriend went in and reserved a table for later that night - the lady who reserved for us was lovely and really welcoming. My boyfriend eats meat so I wanted to make sure he enjoyed the food too. She assured him that he would love it and would not leave hungry! When we returned later for our table the restaurant was beautifully laid up inside and decorated in a gorgeous contemporary way and not vegan/hippy style like a lot of other vegetarian restaurants. If you didn't look at the menu you would think you were in a normal posh restaurant. The waiter came and took our order and he was really friendly, made some jokes and made us fee really welcome. I ordered the "scallops" and I can safely say they were the most amazing thing I've ever eaten. Packed full of flavour and so tasty! I then had the portobello mushroom stuffed with feta and the potato gratin. This was equally exceptional. Again, full of flavour, lots of herbs and garlic and I just didn't want to stop eating! My boyfriend really enjoyed his meal too. Even though he doesn't eat meat. The quality of the food was incredible and the presentation was too. My food was faultless. I would love to have had a pudding aswell but I was just too full!! Next time definitely! Thank you for an amazing meal! I will definitely come again! It was so nice to not be the vegetarian afterthought on the menu for once

I have mixed feelings when it comes to Food For Friends. They serve tasty, wholesome, vegetarian food I actually want to eat. The menu is also staggered so there's something for everyone - mezze platters for couples that want to share, starters and light lunches for those that are slightly peckish and hale and hearty mains for the rest of us! The food is well flavoured and well executed too. The problem is, the atmosphere is always a bit lacklustre. I've been in when there's been no music and all you can hear is the clatter of the coffee machine and cutlery being washed. I've also been in when the music has been so painfully bland and mediocre, I've been seriously tempted to put my iPod on. Add to this, the fact I always tend to get served by waitresses that either forget my order, get the order wrong or never come back to check everything's okay - and you can probably see why I'm hesitating to sing their praises. Maybe they should open a take-away Food For Friends? That would reduce all my reservations and take it back to the food - which is great!

Incredible food with so much to choose from on the menu. I am not a vegetarian and always enjoy my meal here. The variety and flavours used in their dishes mean that you never leave feeling dissatisfied. The hallomui burger is to die for!

both the food and the service was incredible. i got the root veg salad which was so delicious and my friend had (and loved) the asparagus risotto, and the starters oh my LORD !! the satay cauliflower and bao buns were just insane. out server, i think his name was zach, was so lovely and helpful. the atmosphere was great, overall one of the best dinner experiences we've had in a long time. will for sure go back and not stop talking about it until i do !

Going for over 25 years, Food for Friends is a friendly and central vegetarian restaurant in the old 'Lanes' area of Brighton. Originally more of a cafe, since its refurbishment a few years ago it has become a really nice venue. The choice is extensive, and the quality generally very good. The only quibble is that the service can be a bit inattentive, although on the last few visits it has been fine. They close rather early in the evening if you are used to eating late, but it makes a lovely stop for a veggie lunch.

Though Brighton has many vegetarian restaurants, this one seems to be one of the favorites. It was recommended to us by a local and was quite packed when we got in. The restaurant itself is simply decorated, but is cozy and comfortable. The menu is considerate and flexible, allowing for quite a few vegan options, which made my boyfriend happy. We had a trio of starters: dal, noodle wrapped in tofu skin and fig and tofu salad. We were not too impressed with the starters. They were good, but lacking in flavor. I don't mind them, but would definitely not choose any of them next time. For main, I went for the goat's cheese souffle, which was super satisfying and delicious. A sizable souffle sat on a bed of roasted vegetable and there was a thick piece of grilled goat's cheese to top it off. It was a hearty winter dish that warmed me from the inside. I enjoyed it to the last bite. My boyfriend went for the stuffed baby pumpkin which was also delicious. The only problem with our dishes was that we were very full and couldn't possibly think about desserts. This will be our go-to restaurant next time we are in town.

What a wonderful place to come if you're a vegan. Lovely atmosphere and attentive staff. We got a bread for starter a delight array of different breads with two different sauces. We choose the mezze as our main - three each was more than enough. The non-alcoholic cocktails were also a treat to have with our meals. By the end of it we were very full and happy. But we couldn't leave without trying the vegan desert platter to share. Adding a hint of tea to help accentuate those flavours. 5/5 for staff 5/5 for food 5/5 for atmosphere

I can't believe I have lived in Brighton for 9 years and hadn't been to Food For Friends until now. I attempted to get Scott to take me last summer, but alas they were closed for a refurb! Fast forward to now and we are giving vegetarianism a go for a month and (maybe beyond) so what better excuse to go for a slap up vegetarian meal? After reading the reviews on Yelp I couldn't wait to try out the menu. I opted for crispy tofu with sweet chilli sauce to start. It was really delicious, flavoursome and the chilli sauce complimented it perfectly. For the main I went for the Halloumi and portobello mushroom burger with triple cooked chips. I don't know what I was expecting really but it was perfect! Even a meat eater would enjoy this! I tried a bit of Scott's food too (he had the curry) and Oh MY!!! It was amazing. I almost wish I had that now, but it means we HAVE to go back to explore the menu some more. For dessert we had the chocolate platter to share. Baileys and white chocolate mousse, chilli chocolate truffles, slabs of salted caramel, triple chocolate fudge and chocolate brownies... I'm not the biggest chocolate lover but it was out of this world! I felt giddy afterwards!!! Definitely a must try whether you are a veggie or not!

If you're planning on going to Food For Friends, you can write off your entire day. It's super busy. Unless you reserve a table, you'll be left waiting for at least an hour. We hadn't reserved a table. We waited an hour. Wandering around town on a Sunday. If ever you've been hanging around central Brighton at 3pm on a Sunday, well, you are in an elite group of losers. I figured I would take the easy way out and just have a vegetarian roast. I thought this would be a safe bet and the dish would contain enough familiar vegetables and carbs to keep me psychologically satisfied. They sat us down, smiled, asked if we wanted any drinks. The waiter was well happy. I wondered if he was playing up to the whole "vegetarian" thing. He then informed us that Sunday roasts were available, but that we should know that both options contained mushrooms. I DON'T WANT TO KEEP GOING TO PLACES THAT ONLY COOK MY FAVOURITE FOOD WITH REPLACEMENT MUSHROOMS. That is what went through my head. I smiled as man bun walked away. Plan B. I would order the traditional Sunday curry instead. I also ordered a starter of fried tofu with sweet chilli sauce. It is only now, writing this, that I realise that was an odd choice of starter. It was alright. I ate it all. I don't like the act of dressing up tofu as chicken, though. You're not fooling me. I couldn't get away from this feeling. I ate with RELUCTANCE. The curry was great. It comes with lentils, mixed rice and ... I've actually forgotten what type of curry it is. It was a medium spiced coconut curry with tomatoes and nuts. It was really tasty but I really could have used some broccoli in the curry and a little more rice. Also, why no naan? I couldn't think of any reason not to serve me naan. I briefly wondered if there was some kind of animal that contributed to the naan taste. By the time I was finished with the curry, I was bored of it. I'm not fussed about seeing it again. I needed something sweet to balance out the curry. 8 hours later I was finally served my dessert. The assorted chocolate dish for 2. THIS DESSERT IS INCREDIBLE. There is salted caramel and fudge and brownie and chocolate and mmm. I remember asking Sophie if she thought they would let me book a table and just order the chocolate dessert. She was looking at her phone and not paying attention to me because she said, "yeah, sure, I can't see why not". Neither can I. Then again, nor do I understand why they offered me no naan but all of the mushrooms.

As a fairly new Vegan in Brighton, I can rest easy knowing this place is smack bam in the middle of town. I have taken friends and family here and the service is always exceptional. David especially as a server is sterling, his knowledge and attention to detail is fab! Cocktails are so flavourful, and I never resist the second . Desserts too, good selection to suit all different vibes. Only minor minus is I had a curry that was a little bit nothingy, but I am a spice fiend and this curry was a touch tame. More kick! Good decor and atmosphere, and very interesting place to watch the world go by.

Brighton's well known for being a leftie mecca with lots of veggie options. This is definitely one of the must-try places if you're up for a non-guilty treat. I arrived at this spot just as they were opening for lunch and was impressed with its simple elegance. A lot of the menu is simple food but presented well and cooked impeccably. I had the open ravioli which was simply stunning, Huge portion with butternut squash and beetroot aplenty - I actually had to take some home. Would thoroughly recommend, and the staff were super-helpful and friendly, even giving me tips on where to try for dinner!

It's so great to travel halfway across the world and find beautiful vegetarian and vegan restaurants that are super popular! I had heard about Food for Friends online and when my girlfriends and I were taking a day trip to Brighton I made sure this was our lunch stop! We don't have the soup culture in Melbourne the way the UK do and I really wish we did! I love soup, and I had the best roast vegetable soup here, I also had a delicious risotto, and of course tried all my friends dishes (the veg burgers) and they were also incredibly yummy!!! I hope I can go back!

I loved the food! We ended up at this restaurant because we were stupid enough to come to Brighton on a holiday weekend without a reservation. After a short wait Food for Friends found us a table. The menu was very good and if it was more than just my husband and I we would have got the sharing platter. We ordered the courgette koftas, pea, mint arachini for starters and main. Koftas were very good but could have done with more kick. The arachini was very good. What was outstanding was the dessert - maple and cinnamon poached pear with coconut yogurt, hazelnuts and edible flowers! I was delicious and picture perfect! I highly recommend this restaurant when you are in Brighton.

We're a tough batch to please. It may not seem that way from my flurry of recent 5-starery, but it's a fact. Seating five picky people at an 100% vegetarian restaurant and having every single dish be uniformly drooled over by the entire group, then systematically devoured? Now that's impressive. There was not even a rogue a grain of salt left on the table when we were finished. ...1 star off for a bit too much salt/butter/oil for my liking. (Also, literally forcing us to look at the dessert menu? Certainly not an ideal way to end the fabulous meal.)

Yum yum yum yum yuuummmm... Brighton is just throwing one food gem at me after another. I went here a few years ago with my sister as shes a complete veggie and remembered it well but not this well. So I hear you ask, why only 4 stars? LLLLLLLLLLoooooooooooooooonnnnnnnnggggg waits for everything apart from the bread at the beginning. seriously we had that before we even got the drinks! Anyhoo, if your not in a rush and want to try some truly inspiring vegetarian food by the seaside this is most definitely the place to eat at.

My friend and I were visiting Brighton for the day and came across Food For Friends. First of all, we had no idea this restaurant was strictly vegetarian. My friend, a true carnivore, had a look of horror as he browsed through the menu. But everything changed when the food arrived. We were pleasantly surprised by how flavorful each dish was. We shared the mezze which included 3 dishes and the haloumi and portobello burger. All of them were very good, but the goat cheese arancini and potato, carrot, ginger chill rosti stole the show. My friend also enjoyed the scotch eggs. I'd definitely go back if I ever find myself in Brighton again!

Went here after a friend recommended the place but was disappointed from the start. The waitress was quite rude to my wife when we were being shown to our seats. I understand that it's a busy restaurant but uncalled for. I had The Burger and found it really dry and pretty tasteless considering it was full of guerkins etc. The fries were also luke war. At £14 I expected a better outcome. I wanted the place to be better as we have recently moved to the area & are both vegetarian.

It was a hot - yes hot day in Brighton and i was with the kids, the wife i think was off working, (helping to keep in the style that i have become accustomed to) it was about lunch time according to the kids stomachs as they had been moaning for some time that they were hungry and what a wicked father i was for not letting them have an ice-cream. I saw Food for Friends had just opened their doors and it seemed as good as place as any. I dragged them in as my patience was wearing thin with them by now, thinking a lunchtime beer would help, well the food we had was delightful it was only at the end of my lentil surprise salad that i became aware that we were in fact in a vegetarian restaurant. i am a true omnivore, i love my meat but i did not miss it at all. A great chef once said about vegetarian food. "The best type of vegetarian food, is food that does not try too hard to be vegetarian, it just happens not to have meat in it". This sums up Friends for Dinner in my omnivore opinion.

Firstly, I should explain that I am a true meat lover, who would never consider paying £12 for a salad. I'm more of a steak and frites or chipotle chicken burrito kinda girl. For this reason, despite being a 10 second walk away from my humble abode, I have never felt compelled to enter Food For Friends. Yes, the exterior is rather swish and everyone inside always looks like they're having a wonderful time, but it simply isn't my thing, ok. That is, until today...when I found myself admiring the interior and having a wonderful time myself, with two girlfriends. The staff were extrememly friendly and welcoming when entering. They were then very helpful (and patient!) when it came to ordering and even offered to make me my own (sugar free) version of the lemon and ginger iced tea, which I happily accepted and very much enjoyed. In the end, I went for the stuffed mushrooms.... delicious and so filling! The puddings looked incredible but I was stuffed, so sadly couldn't manage one. So yes, still no salad haha but you never know, maybe I'll go for one next time : P

Food for Friends really lives up to its name-- A wonderful vegetarian restaurant that your carnivore friends will enjoy! We had the salad with goat cheese, and the sharing platter for two. It was all phenomenal!

This was the best vegetarian meal I've ever eaten in the UK. The setting is great, nestled in the middle of the Lane's, a hip, no-cars allowed shopping section of Brighton. The food was amazing. My fiancé and I had the halloumi salad, which contained some of the best tofu I have ever eaten. Although the best part was the dessert. I had the banana fritters (with vegan vanilla ice cream), and the lady had the chocolate tort. Both were incredible.

I mean this place is great as the many reviews below state and offer on advice and how vegetarian, vegan, pescetarian etc and accommodating Food for Friends are. The staff are lovely and very chatty and I enjoyed the mezze of picking 3 little dishes to enjoy. The only complaint j has my end was where we were sat in particular there was a huge cold draught from the door. I'm not sure if this is fixable but it's always a pain when a cold draught spoils the experience of lovely fresh food.

Good old vegetarian food... the guiltless way to enjoy an expensive meal out! Eating veggie always feels like a safe and healthy option, and Food for Friends is a great place to indulge that sentiment: tasty, expensive veggie food, well worth the price and the time taken to go. Much better than the vaunted Terre A Terre around the corner, Food for Friends is quiet, restrained, polite and very friendly: a really lovely atmosphere as well as a scrumptious menu! The menu is excellent for two very important reasons: first of all, it doesn't make that annoying vegetarian-restaurant-faux-pas of serving normal classics with the meat replaced by tofu or halloumi or something. Terre a Terre are particularly bad at this, but Food for Friends' dishes are made to be veggie, and it works far better. Secondly, the chef here has managed the miraculous and created various vegetarian dishes that all taste different. Again, too many veggie places serve many different plates of food that taste pretty similar, but everything here is varied and exciting and different: a welcome surprise on your first visit! Beyond the exceptional food, I really love the atmosphere here: it's just wonderfully chilled out and relaxed, with lots of pastels and widely spaced tables, unlike Terre a Terre's manic, crammed, loud-colours-only set up. Enjoy a nice, relaxed, and splendid meal here!

Not impressed at all. I would recommend Terre Terre over this snotty, stuck up restaurant any day. The food was expensively mediocre and the staff were busy with themselves. On the plus side, I did enjoy the presentation of the food and the big windows looking out into the laines.

Been here a few times for lunch, and recently went for a meal in the evening. Just as lovely. Food is artfully prepared and consistently good enough to distract non-veggies from the lack of fauna. The wine is maybe a smudge more expensive than it could be. The food is not cheap (slightly less than Brighton's other premier veggie eatery ,Terre à Terre), but it's also not rubbish, so you would expect to pay a little more. Cosy atmosphere, good location, nice staff and great food.

I'm not (completely) veggie, but I go here quite a lot. Always amazing food, atmosphere, and service. I've never had a bad meal, always been utterly delicious, and will remain one of my top Brighton picks. You could just close your eyes and randomly pick anything from the menu and not be disappointed. If in Brighton, whether veggie or not, definitely go here for a meal.

If you had time for only one vegetarian meal before the asteroid crashed into Earth and obliterated life as we know it, this would be a good choice. We had their cauliflower side as a starter, which worked quite well. The stuffed portobellos are to die for. I am sorry I am not in Brighton more often. I would absolutely go here every time.

Food for Friends could be a worthy runner-up to Terre a Terre for the prize of not only the best vegetarian restaurant in town, but the best overall. Perhaps it's an unfair and oft-made comparison as Food for Friends is really more of a high-class cafe with an A-star kitchen, whereas Terre a Terra is a Michelin aspiring, nationwide famous restaurant. But FfF more than holds its own, offering up a wealth of deliciously attractive, globe-trotting cuisine. Their signature dish is hard to beat: potato rosti with duxelle of wild mushrooms, glazed baby carrots, poached egg, hollandaise, and a maple roasted chicory jus. Elsewhere there's more tapas-esque bits to share, such as the Thai platter: mango salad, tom ka soup, sweet potato, cashew and wild rice fritters, and lime salsa. It's all exquisitely lovely and spacious inside, with service that is attentive but not overly formal.

This was a lucky find, situated in a nice central location amongst the shops and on the way to The Pavilion. The staff are very friendly and service was quick during peak lunch hours. The menu is eclectic but the food comes together nicely. We really enjoyed the curry platter and the gnocchi, as well as the root veg rosti starter, although the triple-cooked chips are far too big, so they're mainly plain potato without much flavour. Worth a visit!

I visited Food for Friends in February after chancing across a discount voucher in one of the Brighton events magazines. My boyfriend and I were spending a few days out of London and decided a lovely dinner was well deserved. It took us ages to find the place because we don't know Brighton that well, but once there it was worth all our confused wandering. We don't go out for 'posh' dinners very often, and though FFF isn't swanky in an offputting way it definitely felt higher end than we're used to. Perhaps it's a sign of growing up or something I wasn't surprised that the food was gorgeous, but I was surprised at just how gorgeous it was, and beautifully presented to boot. I've been eating vegetarian since 2000 and vegan since 2007, but in all that time I haven't come in to contact with much in the way of the more gourmet side of veggie cuisine. As a vegan it's always a special treat when there's a good choice of accessible dishes on the menu, and I'll definitely be back at Food for Friends on my next trip to the sea. The cosiness, the great food, the friendly staff - our waitress insisted I was the spitting image of Agyness Deyn (I had a blonde crop at the time)! - it's all just so good!

There's no shortage of vegetarian places to eat in Brighton, and I guess that's why restaurants like FFF are of such a high standard. People always compare FFF with other vegetarian heavyweight Terre-a-Terre and while I think both are exceptional, FFF really has the edge for me. The emphasis is on top quality, delicious food without too much in the way of fuss and artistry. The atmosphere is always friendly, but in a formal enough setting for a 'posh night out' I've done new years and anniversaries here and wouldn't dream of visiting Brighton without booking a table. Non-veggie parents are also partial to a meal here.

I am not a vegetarian but I do enjoy a meat free meal occasionally, and no where better than here. Such friendly staff, fantastic menu and reasonable prices. It is really nice here and I can't see this being my last visit. I will try oter such restaurants to see if I get along with this type of diet.

Excellent food. Until I visited about a year ago I had no idea that vegetarian and vegan food could be so good. I think I had a sort of shiitake and noodle stew, and a fruit crumble. The wine was very good. The staff were very good.

Food for Friends is the best vegetarian restaurant I've ever visited. My husband and I just celebrated our 1st wedding anniversary there and everything we had from start to finish was delightful. We shared our main courses, Perfumed Mango, Avocado, Halloumi, and Wasabi Encrusted Cashew Nuts Salad Wild Mushroom Rosti Both were perfectly flavoured and prepared down to the poached egg on top of the rosti, and the marinated carrot on the side. PERFECT! We next had a delicious cheese platter with gluten-free bread (best I've ever had, a cross between American corn bread and regular bread) and we finished it off with Creme Brulee with Blood Oranges and Cardomom. Teas and coffees were also brilliant, the green tropicale being one of the most delightful teas I've ever tasted. At £43 all in with tipthis was a complete bargain. Some might find this pricey but it was well worth it. Staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. Don't miss an opportunity to visit this fabulous establishment!

I pretty much 99% of the time order meat-based dishes so when my sister took me here I was so sceptical. They completely shocked me though - the amount of effort put into their dishes is insane. I don't think I've ever seen a restaurant execute a vegetarian dish so well.
