The Best Tour Companies in Costa Rica (Updated 2025)

"If you love food, Foodie Tours Costa Rica runs food-focused tours that entertain, educate, and fill you up: their 3.5-hour “Farm-to-Table Essential Gastronomy Experience” takes you around San José’s restaurants and cafés to meet chefs, while a two-day $295 USD tour brings you into the countryside to visit an organic farm, learn traditional Costa Rican cooking methods, and make your own dishes (including chocolate)." - Matthew Kepnes

I can’t say enough great things about this tour. I wish I could give it 10 stars! The food was incredible, voluminous, and diverse. Adriana was generous with her time and knowledge about local cuisine and farm to table sustainability. She’s also an excellent photographer and took several great photos of our group. Thank you, Adriana!!!

Fully recommended as a great way to try distinct and interesting offerings of Costa Rican cuisine from different restaurants off of the beaten path. Great guides that pair gastronomic and local knowledge with great service and likable personality for an all-around amazing time.

The tour was a delicious and fun way to spend a day! We met Adriana at 12pm and toured until 6pm - eating, drinking, talking, learning, and laughing. All of the restaurants, bars and cafes we visited were both beautiful and delicious. I would recommend friends to visit them all. Adriana has curated strong relationships and scoped out the best places in the city for interesting takes on classic Costa Rican ingredients. I wish we had done the tour at the beginning of the trip so I had a better understanding of the ingredients and dishes I would experience in Costa Rica. However, I would recommend the tour to anyone, at any point in their visit to San Jose. One of my favorite parts of the tour was the addition of workshops along the way. The coffee workshop included multiple demonstrations of how to brew pour over coffee with an expert barista. He also taught us all about the growing, processing, and distribution of coffee in Costa Rica today and historically. He was very friendly and knowledgeable, The tour ended with a cocktail workshop, where we got to go behind the bar and make 4 different unique cocktails. I highly recommend this tour to anyone who loves to eat or explore a city in a unique way!

Such a unique tour and experience in San Jose! We booked this tour on the backend of a month long Costa Rican trip and it was easily some of the best Costa Rican food we have had since being in the country. Our guide, Oscar, was very knowledgable about Costa Rica, gave us interesting facts, and was enthusiastic about the tour. Our group was small and intimate so we were able to get to know the other travelers. All the restaurants were delicious, had great vibes, and drinks to pair! The minor feedback I would give is solely logistical; we sometimes waited a really long time between dishes which made us late to our next stops during the tour and the tour duration was longer than expected. Lastly, we LOVED the coffee experience. We learned and tasted amazing coffee and appreciated a different sort of coffee tour versus the more common touristy ones you see when traveling. And, the cold brew mojitos were to die for! Highly recommend :)
