We wanted to like this hotel, but despite the stylish design and unique concept, it falls short in basic comfort and function.
The room layout is visually interesting—center bathroom wrapped in wood paneling dividing the bedroom and living space—and the room itself was very large. The bathroom was excellent: clean, good water pressure, and plenty of space. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives ended.
We arrived after dark and discovered the room lighting is extremely poor. There is a master switch that doesnt turn the lights on untill have done it manually and then you can turn them on and off. When you enter, your forced to wander around in the dark searching for lamps—an awful first impression. To make matters worse, the largest lamp was plugged into a dead outlet, so it didn’t work at all until a porter came up and helped diagnose the electrical issue.
The hotel advertises complimentary water and an in-room coffee maker, but neither were visible anywhere. We opened every cabinet and even checked for hidden wall panels, thinking maybe they were concealed as part of the décor. Nothing. When we asked staff, we were given a dismissive response along the lines of, “No one else has a problem finding it,” which didn’t address the issue or offer a solution. Design seemed to matter more to the staff than actual hospitality or guest comfort.
Cleanliness was also questionable. The ottoman in the room was filthy—covered in old stains and dirty shoe prints that clearly hadn’t been cleaned in a long time (see photo). For a hotel that markets itself on style, upkeep shouldn’t be neglected.
The property’s history as a former Ford repair shop is interesting, but my wife swore parts of the hotel still smelled faintly of oil. And the large bowl of complimentary wood matches at the front desk felt like a strange and potentially unsafe touch.
Overall, this hotel tries hard to be cool and different, and it succeeds visually, but it sacrifices too much in practicality. Lighting, functionality, service attitude, and room cleanliness need serious improvement. We value design, but comfort and hospitality still matter—and on that front, this hotel missed the mark for us. We won’t be returning.
