I have travelled the world extensively over 40 years. I ate at all restaurants ranging from pop & mom’s to Michelin three stars. This is my honest review of the Format Café inside the design museum in Copenhagen, Denmark. The café inside the Design Museum offers a selection of pastries. I tried the canelé, which was decent but not outstanding – the inside was nicely soft, but the outside lacked the crispness you’d expect, and it felt a bit too sugary, sticking slightly in the mouth. It’s fine for a quick bite if you’re really hungry while visiting the museum, but probably worth waiting to find something better nearby.

Wonderful atmosphere in the museum garden, great coffee and desserts.

Nice restaurant/ cafe with indoor and outdoor seating in the Danish Design Museum. I very much enjoyed the slow braised beef with leeks, horseradish and corn. It was an amazing blend of flavours. My only criticism would be that the beef wasn’t tender enough to be considered slow braised. The coffee was great as were the pastries. Loved the assortment of designer chairs as well as the grounds outside with the cool statues.

The most unsophisticated and unappealing brunch I have ever come across!!! Brunch at Format was an awful experience. After having ordered the boiled egg with toast, cheese and caviar (one of the very few options on the menu), the waiter came with the bill to make me pay right after taking my order (I.e.: I had not even received my food yet). Five minutes later, he came back to tell me they had run out of caviar (it was 10 am) and that he would have to refund me for the extra money I paid. I felt annoyed, because as a foreigner, I get charged conversion rates for both the payment and the refund and this would not have happened had he waited until the end of my meal to charge me (like every other restaurant out there 🙄). They then brought my brunch plate, which was awful. A hard boiled egg which was still in its shell and wayyy too hot to peel and open myself - also annoying that the kitchen wouldn’t peel the egg before serving it and expect the customer to do that. There was also nothing else on the plate than two pieces of toast, butter and a few slices of cheese. All of this for the mere (extortionate!!) price of about 20 pounds (gbp)!!! And there was not a single piece of salad or fruit in the plate. This was the most unsophisticated and unappealing brunch I have ever come across. They should be embarrassed to serve a plate like this in a restaurant. Even someone who doesn’t cook can do better than this!

This observation is after 3 separate times of using this restaurant during a period of 3 weeks. Terrible, terrible service with a very capital T. On this last visit, I waited for 40 minutes before being served. In this time I asked twice to be served and was fobbed off with a ‘my colleague will take your order’. During my wait time I noted this was a phrase used frequently by everyone attending in the restaurant! (And whilst everyone was super-polite, a 40-minute wait before being served is not acceptable). It’s also so easy to sort out the problem! There are several people serving in the restaurant at any one time: What does it take to ensure one person is dedicated to taking orders, or at least principally taking orders, especially at peak times such as lunch, afternoon tea etc. Is it that difficult to do???

A Design-Lover’s Coffee Dream 😍 The coffee shop at Designmuseum Denmark seamlessly marries robust coffee flavors with inspiring Danish design. The inviting atmosphere pairs perfectly with their expertly crafted house blend. The staff are friendly and insightful, making each visit a treat for both coffee connoisseurs and design enthusiasts alike. A highly recommended experience. 🇩🇰🥰

The best cafe I've ever been to in a museum/gallery. Quality of food, service and overall vibe is as good as anywhere else solely dedicated to food and drink. Best smoked salmon ever. My partner had a delicious Chicken Caesar salad. Good drinks selection and nice looking pastries. Staff were friendly and attentive

It’s good enough for a quick stop in a day of visit to be noticed. Prices are aligned with the city. But the quality is there also (although it’s my speciality, this is not a Michelin, don’t be confused).
