The Fornalutx Hideaway, Fornalutx, Mallorca - Explore & Book

"The Fornalutx Hideaway lies at the end of a citrus-lined lane, shaded by three monumental date palms, in one of the prettiest villages in Spain. It's an unusual house, built by a famous Belgian photographer, whose curved walls and large windows provide breathtaking views of the Tramuntana mountains. From the roof terrace you can revel in a 360-degree panorama of fruit groves, wooded slopes and craggy peaks. With 4 bedrooms, 2 sitting rooms, an open-plan kitchen-diner, plenty of terrace space and a lap pool in the garden, it's a seriously classy option for a large family or a group of 6-8 friends, who want to spend a week exploring Mallorca's most spectacular landscapes and rugged coastline. The house was renovated using slate, black marble, polished concrete and natural riverstones, to create an uncluttered, vintage-meets-contemporary atmosphere; walls are in muted Farrow & Ball colours. There are arty touches inspired by the owner's 15 years in Paris - silk onion-bulb lampshades, fern-fretwork wall appliqués, velvet and linen cushions, voile curtains in the bedrooms - and thoughtful extras such as fluffy bathrobes and slippers, custom-made bathroom products, and an ample welcome basket. The high-spec kitchen and gorgeous dining terrace put the seal on easy living. Outside you'll find a 700 sq.m. garden fragrant with orange, lemon, jacaranda, bougainvillia, jasmine, magnolia, and herbs. Keen walkers love it here, with many trails into the Tramuntana mountains right from the doorstep. Beaches, tennis, cycling, sailing and snorkelling are all a short drive away. Highs Delightful private setting just outside the pretty village of Fornalutx, with big views and gorgeous outside spaces High standard of fixtures and finishings, with original artwork, accessories and flea market finds from Paris, good bed linen, and sleekly contemporary bathrooms Proper 13m-long pool with sunloungers, sofas and a hammock Extensive selection of books, music and films for the rare rainy day Catering on request and culinary/wine tours; Jenny is a mine of local information Lows You can't drive to the door (you can stop 50m away to unload, and park 150m away) Be prepared for a (short) uphill walk into Fornalutx (it's 5 minutes to the square) The pool is unheated so can be cool in May and October A 4-night minimum stay, rising to 7 nights in July and August (Sat-Sat)" - Charlotte Bonsey

This is definitely more a 2-3 star hotel than 4. The room we were in was completely different to what was pictured online (our room was dated, tiny TV, bathroom was actually a clear box inside the room so you can see who is showering at all times. Breakfast was also average, we only went the first morning, fruit was off and sour). I think the expectations of this hotel need to be managed, either the price needs to be lowered or the images need to be updated so it reflects the hotel. The lobby and shared spaces are done with taste, however our room was not nice to be in for 5 nights with a musty smell. Also our air conditioning did not work and it was 35 degrees for the duration of our stay. All of these complaints above I have now also read in past reviews over two years, so management do not have any intention of changing nor do I think they care if you come back. Shame as it’s such a cute town! Head to Corella for breakfast, divine!!!!

We booked this place by accident, as we hadn’t planned to stay in the village – just needed a rest after a long day of biking. What a happy surprise. The room was beautiful, and the breakfast was so delicious I couldn’t help but overindulge… and then couldn’t move. A truly unexpected gem!

We stayed only for one night, but it’s a beautiful place. They made a good work with relatively narrow building and not so much space, it’s interiors are great. All the staff was very warm and friendly. As a vegan I was able to enjoy breakfast too without any special requirements before-hand.

Wonderful location in the centre of the town, the staff when on site were very helpful, the hotel is not staffed 24 hours, but there is an out of hours telephone service. Some maintenance would improve the overall quality (loose stair banister, loose missing pool tiles). Well presented breakfast buffet.

4 star prices 1 star service. Beautiful location but it’s more an Airbnb than a hotel. No management to be seen, online check in, a you have to contact management online to get anything sorted out. They really want to run this place remotely so the guests suffer. The breakfast and cleaning staff were lovely though.

- Less personal contact, and no elevator. Be prepared to carry your luggage up the stairs. + Beautiful location and a very small hotel which makes it calm. Breakfast is good.

I have just returned from a 1 week stay at the Petit Hotel. It is a beautifully appointed boutique style hotel that offers very comfy beds, an excellent breakfast and nice domestic staff (Lisa especially).||Unfortunately it also comes with some downsides. The building is an old convent and the hotel rooms have been created by partitioning the space, so most walls are partition walls which are not sound proof. I stayed in 2 rooms, as I requested to move from the first because of the noise from the front door buzzer that happens when anyone enters the building. While the second room offered some respite to that noise (anyone with a town view room will be able to hear it) I experienced different issues with sound from neighbouring rooms due to the poor sound proofing. For example when the occupants in room 13 used their bathroom, their lights would light up my room and I could hear everything they were doing in room 14. Changing rooms wasn’t easy as the hotel offers only a virtual reception via WhatsApp. This made negotiations and communication a challenge and would not be my preference, especially as there was no information for guests to familiarise them with the building and the area eg taxis.||Im not sure I would stay again given the noise issues.

Overall the stay was ok, and the view is beautiful. However, this hotel is definitely not a 4* hotel. There is no reception, we struggled to enter the hotel because of a texto issue (…) exteriors are not clean, not even a bottle of water in the fridge etc. At breakfast time I’ve been asked to pay my room while already done the day before, not the perfect way to start a day I must say. So I had to contact the WhatsApp number again to clarify this. We don’t want to do this on holidays. Breakfast is ok, not a 4* breakfast that’s for sure. Apart from that, as said view is amazing and bedroom was clean (although the towel holder was broken). It’s taking advantage of the very good location and very few other available hotel options.
