During our recent visit to Reykjavik, we stumbled upon this delightful restaurant that truly exceeded expectations. From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel genuinely welcome. The service was impeccable—attentive without being intrusive, and made the entire experience feel personal and relaxed. The ambiance is rustic and cozy, with wooden beams, soft lighting, and a charming decor. The menu offers a well-curated selection of dishes, with something to please every palate. From fresh fish to hearty lamb and vegetarian options, everything was beautifully presented and full of flavor. The drink list was equally impressive, featuring local craft beers, wines, and creative cocktails. Considering Reykjavik’s reputation for high prices, the value here was surprisingly good. Quality was top-notch, and the overall experience felt worth every krona. If you're looking for a place that combines authentic atmosphere, excellent service, and delicious food at a fair price, I can highly recomment this restaurant.

We both got the 4 courses meal. I had the meat rib one and my friend had the fish one. We spent less than 2 hours here, service was quick. Every dish was delicious. Staff was very kind and it is priced very reasonably for iceland!

Stopped in for a late dinner at 9pm! Wasn’t very busy and were seated right away! Overall, I thought the food was very very good and the staff was very kind and helpful for our questions! Prices were high, but i think thats typical in Iceland.

We had an absolutely fantastic experience at Forréttabarinn. Every small plate was a hit, but the standout for us was the horse, unbelievably tender, perfectly cooked, and elevated even further by a rich red wine reduction that was out of this world. The risotto and fish dishes were also exceptional, each with incredible flavor and beautiful presentation. And the desserts? The perfect sweet finish to an already perfect meal. Cozy atmosphere, great service, and a creative menu that delivers on every bite. Highly recommend!

My girlfriend and I chose this restaurant as our nice dinner out on our trip, and we couldn’t be more happy with our decision. I loved the atmosphere of the establishment, the service was nice and kind. In terms of courses you have the option to do their courses they prepared for you or pick your own small plates, we did the latter. We enjoyed every single dish and drink we got. Would suggest this restaurant to anyone.

The food was good, though portions seemed a bit small. The horse meat was interesting - a bit beefy but less tender. The barley risotto was good - also seems to be the only grain they grow locally. The market fish - a white fish was delicious. The scallops were small and not quite tender. (Perhaps this was intended to be an appetizer?) So wouldn’t order this again. As many people have said, the bread with olive tapenade is amazing, a great way to start off the meal.

This was probably our favourite meal in iceland and was (for iceland) very sharply priced. By Australian standards this would be fine. The bread with olive teppanade is so delicious you may want another. The seafood soup was bursting with flavour and had some nice seafood bites to it. The salmon entree had a lot of good textures i hadn't had with salmon before, and I loved how it wasnt overly salty or fishy. The edamame quaesidilla were bit what i expected, but in a good way. I love how it was so playful and had so much more crunchy then a regular quaesidilla.

Really good food! The meat, both lamb and horse, was cooked perfectly. Really tender. Great prices for what it is as well for Iceland standards. We had the 4 course meat option.
