"Fight for Your Right at Fort Barrington You see it while dodging massive potholes on the dirt road just a bit past the entrance to Coconut Beach Club; looming atop Goat Hill. Fort Barrington was one of the first lines of defense for St. John's reporting ship movements to nearby Rat Island via flag and light signals. While just a lookout station, being on the front lines wasn't easy. Fort Barrington likely saw the most action of any fort on Antigua , being captured and liberated from the French going back as far as 1652. The fort as it stands today was built in 1779 and is one of the best ruins to explore. Not only does its position atop Goat Hill provide a short but invigorating climb, there are also several rooms to explore, and the view from the top is unmatched for its sea view —blue stretches for miles."

Really a nice spot to explore, with great view of the ocean and the island. If you are a bit adventurous, you can take the trail to the tip of the peninsula to view a beautiful rock just off the coast. Also walk across to the gorgeous Deep Bay for a little dip. The huge downside is that we got several warnings about people breaking into vehicles here. We went very early in the morning and had no issue, but be very watchful.

A little work to get up there. There's a rope someone tied to a tree for the rougher slope. I did it in sandals and my boyfriend had water shoes and we made it up alright but I would recommend tennis shoes. Gorgeous 360 degree view!!! Worth the hike. The building is not much to see. Road is a little rough close to the parking area. If you take the left fork on the trail, you end up on the beach and a great little restaurant with the freshest seafood!

This fort is not that easy to get to, but even if you don't make it all the way up, the view is amazing. But I would tell you to try. And once you see what I tried to get in my photos, you will understand me a little bit better. But also make your way to the beach that you see in the pictures, and you will find some good and fresh fish and jerk chicken that was an amazing find. When you find good food on a trip, that is something that will stay with you. What i like to call a free souvenir.

Fort Barrington is a fascinating slice of Antigua's history and a rewarding hike for those seeking adventure. The trail to the fort is a bit steep, but the panoramic views at the top are absolutely worth it. Overlooking the turquoise waters and surrounding landscape, it's easy to imagine the fort's strategic importance. The ruins themselves are intriguing, with a sense of history that adds depth to the experience. A must-visit for history buffs and nature lovers alike!

Easy hike, the rope section would be tricky for the older and very young but doable with caution. Great view and the old stone work was very intriguing. However a few negatives made me saddened and somewhat angry. I was truly ashamed by the amount of trash, bottles, plastics etc very obviously tossed aside by tourists. Please show some respect to someone else’s country and landmarks by taking your empties and trash back with you. “Pack it in, pack it out”. Not to let the locals off the hook either, I was stunned by the amount of garbage just left in bushes, on the beaches, beach vendor areas and the lagoon bridge parking area. In my eyes it paints a picture of not caring about your country and how it’s viewed by foreign visitors. My advice, clamp down hard on resorts to police littering and locals, don’t be afraid to give a tourist an earful if you see it happening. By the same token, lead by example and I will be more than happy to come back to help support your economy. By and large, a great island and great friendly people, thanks for having me and my family. 🇨🇦

Even though the trail going up to the fort isn't the best, it's totally worth the short hike to see this gem! The 360 view on top is amazing and the fort is incredibly preserved. Very cool. PS, snorkel the two sunken boats in Deep Bay. They are very cool, too.

Easy hike from the Royalton Resort , which took about 25 minutes to the top. On the top, you get a great view, and if you go with a guide, learn about slavery and what went on at the fort. The fort is open, so there is no entrance fee or anyone telling you where to go, you are going at your own risk , at the bottom across the small bridge there is a area where you can park and go to the beach or fort. Please take back whatever garage you bring with you. It is a shame to see a water bottle along the route
