Fort Bazaar, Galle Fort, Sri Lanka - Explore & Book

"The Fort Bazaar Hotel sits in a historic heritage building much like others in the 17th-century Galle Fort, but the resemblances stop there. Light, modern and chic inside, it creates an ambiance that's entirely its own. Drawing upon the Fort’s Moorish history, interiors have a distinctly Middle Eastern focus and feature eye-catching floor tiles, ethnic mosaic cushions and pendant lamps. The front of the hotel, home to a restaurant and bar, dates back over a century and is characterised by deeply recessed arches and a long verandah. Beyond, beautiful rooms flank a convivial flagstone patio whilst roomy suites are on an upper floor. And there's a beautiful adjacent elevated pool area whose sundeck is part shaded by tropical plants. At night, glass tea lights sprinkled among cushioned banquettes bring this bewitching courtyard magically to life, ambient music setting the scene. The Church Street Social restaurant attracts day-trippers, locals and hotel guests alike. The luxurious spa, hidden around a corner near an ancient banyan tree, is perfect for post-sightseeing relaxation. And as for the unbeatable location: Galle Fort's sprinkling of museums, churches, temples, boutiques and cafés are literally steps away. Highs We loved the fresh individuality and stylish interiors; there's nothing else like it in Galle Fort The restaurant is a buzzy, sociable place with great food and cocktails, plus it's air-conditioned, which we relished in Galle's heat Both the pool and lovely leafy courtyard have lots of seating areas for relaxing or dining in the open-air Romantic yet family-friendly; a clever mix Rates include breakfast, afternoon tea, and happy hour drinks, as well as a guided walking tour of Galle Fort Lows Expect some daytime road noise and busy comings and goings in front of the hotel The restaurant and bar are open to the public, so they can get busy Galle Fort closes down after around 9pm, so don't come expecting late nightlife" - Emma Boyle

Probably the most attentive and welcoming staff you’ll come across as they can’t do enough. Shout outs to Aisif and Chandana, but lots of others whose names I didn’t get. The food in the restaurant is excellent. We were there for New Year and the set dinner menu was superb. The breakfasts are brilliant too - good coffee, fresh fruit and lots of choice. Try the hoppers! Great room. Nice pool and poolside area. Didn’t visit the spa but wish we had.

This was our fifth stop on our honeymoon, and we chose to stay in Galle Fort a little longer than our other locations. In hindsight I’m still not entirely sure that was the right call for us. There are plenty of quirky little shops and interesting cafés tucked away in the fort’s streets, but you can easily explore the whole area in a day — so the hotel really needed to feel like a sanctuary from the heat, the tuktuks, and the constant bustle. Fort Bazaar is certainly a nice hotel, but we couldn’t help noticing an “upstairs/downstairs” divide in the rooms. The first-floor rooms looked genuinely luxurious, while the courtyard rooms (where we stayed) felt more pared-back and basic. After being thoroughly spoilt at the previous stops on our honeymoon, it brought us back to earth rather abruptly. If you’re considering staying here, it might be worth comparing it with their sister property 42 Lighthouse Street, just around the corner. Surprisingly, it’s considerably cheaper, the rooms are far nicer, and you still get access to Fort Bazaar’s restaurant and bar. All that said, the staff at Fort Bazaar were absolutely lovely, and the hotel’s bar — The Church Street Social — is a brilliant spot to sit, relax, and watch the world go by. Whatever you do, be there at 5pm. They take their happy hour extremely seriously and make it their mission to have everyone suitably merry by 6pm. Special shout-out to Shanta, the superb barman who kept spirits high in every sense. A pleasant hotel in a great location — just make sure you choose the right room for the experience you want.

This was the most beautiful hotel we stayed in during our trip to Sri Lanka. It is out of this world the decor is exceptional old world charm with a modern chic twist. It has a bell in the room to press for champagne I mean what else does a girl need. The pool area was beautiful, tranquil and extremely comfortable. The staff were next level attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. We ate here one night for dinner it was again exceptional and is a very popular restaurant in the town. The breakfast was à la carte and really outstanding. The location, right in the centre of the fort is perfect and if you stay in Galle you would not find a better hotel.

We had a great time at fort bazaar. Quality is consistent across the tear drops i have visited. Very well located near all the restaurants and shops on pedlar street. Rooms are really cosy. The whole hotel is really cosy. Lovely pool and spa experience was super relaxing. The food was yummy and plentiful. Couldnt finish portions. The cocktails were lovely and they have a nice happy hour. The staff are so friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed our time and would go again. Take advantage of the offers

Fort Bazaar is such a charming and intimate gem. We loved the thoughtful experiences that are included in the stay—from the guided walk around Galle Fort to the daily tea & cakes and a lovely evening drink at Church Street Social. Breakfast every morning was generous, with plenty of delicious options, and we adored sitting on the veranda watching the world go by. The pool area feels surprisingly spacious considering the boutique size, and with only 18 rooms, the whole hotel feels wonderfully personal. We also enjoyed a treatment at Z Spa (spa credit included)—a wonderful idea and truly relaxing. A special mention to the team for their warm hospitality and gracious service—we felt so well looked after throughout our stay. Galle is magical in those golden early evening hours, once the day trippers have left and the streets quieten down. We would highly recommend Fort Bazaar.

This is THE place if you want to stay in Galle. The location is ideal. The staff is incredibly friendly. The room was clean with a cool, sleek design. Bonus, hit the “Ring for champagne” button in the room. The pool area fantastic although not big, but surrounded by trees and bushes. The extras you get at this hotel and the wonderful cocktails and food are on top of the rest reason to come and come again. Thank you for our wonderful (short) stay with you. Keep it up as you have all the ingredients in a wonderful place.

We arrived here at the end of our 2 week travel around Sri Lanka on our honeymoon.|The room was clean, nice, with a gentle turn down service and daily replaced mini bar which was included. |They also provide a high tea ( coffee and cake) hour daily 3-4 and free happy hour 5-6 which has local beer, wine and cocktails included for guests.||The food here is fantastic also and very tasty. At times service was a bit slow, but generally was OK.|Also used the massage service here which was great||The new pool is lovely and the perfect temperature on a sunny day and would stay here again happily.||Thank you

Fort bazaar was our final destination in Sri Lanka and we absolutely loved it. A lovely place to have a wander and take in the views and experience some local cuisine. Although the hotel has only 18 rooms the facilities were amazing and the staff were all very attentive. The complimentary afternoon tea and cakes & complimentary happy hour were a great surprise.||We opted to have some spa treatments whilst here and we were not disappointed, the service was great and we came away feeling very relaxed.
