"Amtrak’s Vermonter train travels from Washington DC to St. Albans, Vermont, offering views of lush northeastern forests and charming small towns. Battleboro is a great spot for fall foliage, set in the foothills of the Green Mountains."

Fort Dummer in Brattleboro, VT is our go to camp site when we visit Vermont. We love that it is secluded enough to give us a nice peaceful outdoor setting but close enough that we are not traveling miles out of the way for quick visits to town. The staff is knowledgeable and attentive and we appreciate them. The campsites are well maintained and restroom and shower areas are clean, brightly lit and bug free. I was especially happy for the bug free part. Bring quarters for the showers. I was surprised that despite being in the forest I was rarely bit my mosquitoes or flies. I recommend this place 10/10 for every campsite visit when in Brattleboro, VT.

We found Fort Dummer to be a very cute and quiet campground, there are many different campsite depending on your wants . They have lean-to where you can took your self in and feel alone.the campground was over very quiet . They did seem to have a couple of people living there, which freaked me out . I understand the times but I can not vacation and have a good time if I see that .we were right near the bathroom and a 5pm on Sunday they closed it and at 7 it was still not open . I'm not sure why ? The bathrooms on the side that we stayed were not easy walk to get to either. You have to go uphill or downhill, depending on your site .

I live about a 5 minute walk from this park and it has been wonderful being able to pop in there with my dog whenever I like. The trails are easy but quite lovely, with some scenic views. There are plenty of places to picnic. It’s very beautiful in the winter when it snows as well.

Nice enough park, but really only 2 small loop trails, sunset and sunrise. Each trail is about 1 mile and each has one Scenic view about half way in. The sunset trail starts at the end of the play field and there is no sign for it until you walk to the end of that field. Easy to miss. There is a third small trail that goes to a pond. I didn't take it, but it's supposed to have a bit of an incline on the way back. The park has camp sites. Day access is $4 per person.

We stayed for a week. Yes the campground is near the highway but at night we didn't hear any noise at all. We did all 3 trails and enjoyed them. The one to the swim area is super steep, best bring poles if it is wet. The showers were the hottest we've had during 3 weeks of travel. The only weird bit were the "host volunteers" that were surprised when they had a bear eating from their hummingbird feeder and then had to drive to sites to warn all the campers. They also were a bit showy with their power privileges, you could see the wide screen TV on in their camper and they ran power to at least 3 different "guests" who camped nearby. We didn't go expecting power but we're a little surprised by this.

Really enjoyed our time here. Park was clean in all aspects, staff was courteous and helpful. When you pull up to the entrance, there is parking to the right of the office/ranger station, and you must check-in first or make a day use/campsite reservation. They sell small stacks of local firewood. Each campsite has a fire ring with a small grill built-in for you to cook on. The ground was flat and even, mostly dirt. They offer both RV and/or tent spots. These vary in size but most are plenty spacious enough for a family, their vehicle, tent(s), and gear. You get a bit of traffic noise coming from downtown Brattleboro and the interstate nearby but overall it’s a pretty quiet state park. We didn’t end up hiking due to the weather and time constraints but there are a few easy trails within the park and are easily accessible to visitors of the park. Both the sunset and sunrise trails came recommended by the park guide. There are coin op showers, a picnic area, and more. We enjoyed our time here and I suggest looking into checking this park out for a nice ‘splore.

Google
Only 3 stars because not one of the sites in thia campground it private. Every single one is wide open. Thru are placed at odd spot, and again, all open to each other AND the campground road. Quiet hours werw not enforced We were there friday and Saturday night of Columbus day wkend 2024. The site next to us partied loudly til at least 12:30 on Friday night, when i finally put my earplugs in. Bathrooms were in the middle of the campground and ONLY ACCESSABLE BY FOOT. Wich was odd. You had to walk quite a ways from some of the sites. We had a good time in spite of all this, because we are veteran campers, but would not return.

Fort Dummer State Park provided us with an enjoyable camping experience shared with friends. We particularly liked the Sunset Trail, which led us to the playground area. Although the playground lacked kids' swings and slides, we still had a great time playing games there. Cooking at the campground was a fun experience, and we later headed to the open ground to indulge in stargazing during the night. However, we did encounter a slight issue with the volunteer staff. They seemed a bit unfriendly and frequently approached us to remind us about keeping the noise level down and maintaining campground rules. The restroom facilities were a bit far from our campground, which was a minor inconvenience. Additionally, the area had a high mosquito population, so it's crucial to remember to bring mosquito repellent spray. Overall, despite these minor setbacks, we had a wonderful time camping at Fort Dummer State Park and created cherished memories with friends.

Yelp
Well-maintained and pretty campground but the noise from surrounding traffic is absolutely audible and prevents sleep and quiet moments. This campground is a very good jumping off point to explore other areas in Vermont. The staff was very kind and helpful at check in.

Yelp
I stayed here for a night with some friends (who were staying longer than I was) - it's a very clean feeling campground. The bathrooms were well maintained (also I would hope this would be the baseline for bathroom cleanliness in the times of Covid), the sites are big and flat, and there's a swimming hole you can walk down to! The campsites are close together, and I could see all my neighbors, but everyone was respectful and it was very quiet at night. The only minor downside is that I could hear the occasional passing car on 91 at night, otherwise this was a great campground (it also has accessible campsites!) for a chill night with some pals.

Yelp
This park is good for a quick weekend getaway with friends for drinking and talking. It reminds me of the commercial campgrounds we went to when I was a kid. The sites are fairly close to each other and I'm glad we were on the outside of the loop, because the bathrooms are at the very center of the interior facing side loop and there are multiple paths going into them, making the sites not very private. All of the sites are very close to the road and the neighbors are mostly visible. There doesn't seem to be much hiking and the park has I-91 on two sides. It is great that town is really close and the highway is good in that it makes the park super convenient to get to.

Yelp
I spent most of my time in the campground, which was gorgeous. The sites were the biggest I have ever, ever seen. Wow. Flat, private. Showers weren't too bad, typical state park esque. We took a short walk on the trails abutting the campground, which provided nice views of the green mountains. Also, this campground is dirt cheap, something like $14/night.
