"A historic site in Virginia with significance in African American history, particularly as a place where enslaved people sought refuge during the Civil War."
Beautiful area to walk. We take our 3 German Shepherds and we walk the grounds where the huge trees are. So relaxing. Highly recommend.

I love Ft Monroe. I worked at the YMCA 52 years ago and met my husband there. We got married at the Chapel if the Centurion. Great place to visit!

The historical sites are very interesting. The fort is open to the public. There are beaches that have little to no waves, and one can enjoy the passing of cargo ships closely.

Lived in the area for just over three years and have been coming to Fort Monroe for almost as long. I can say that today is the best this beach has looked during our time coming. It has obviously been combed and is definitely an inviting look. Zero sea grass or anything; just a clean looking beach. Great job to the workers who put the work in at this beach!

Got there after the casement was closed. Part of the upper wall is a pet cemetery. That made me a little sad and miss home and our cats even more. So John is coming. Walked half way around on the upper wall then through the parade ground. Saw the Lincoln cannon. Didn’t stay for sunset, couldn’t find a good foreground.

Such a gem of a place to walk and have amazing views. Didn’t have enough time to go inside but will make sure we do next time.

Lots of history here. Well preserved. You could spend a whole day here. Exhibits, museum, walking tour, beach, food on the island. I enjoyed my time here.
