Fort St Elmo and the National War Museum

A really interesting and well put together museum. Not all of it is open at the moment but for €10 it's still a bargain. The mixture of video content, text panels (especially the really well done timelines) and actual exhibits is great. I liked the way they split the different time periods. The fort is also really interesting itself with amazing views of the city. Was able to use left luggage lockers for free. Overall impressed and would recommend a visit. Spent about 90 mins here.

If you want to explore the breadth of this absolutely amazing and thorough museum, you'll need the better part of the whole afternoon. The displays are amazing, the structure of the exhibitions is clear and direct; the two focal points (the Great Siege and WWII) are wonderfully presented. An absolute must see for the visitor interested in Malta's role in history.

Definitely worth the visit. Nicely explains the entire history of Malta and has great views. Very reasonably priced at 10 euros per person (adults). The downsides: One of the seven sections of the museum was closed when we went. Section six was a bit underwhelming.

Great museum and place to discover history of Malta. I spent here around 3 hours before it is closed and really want to come back and see some more missed halls. Also there are great views to Sliema and other districts. Definitely worth the visit. Highly recommend 👍🏼

Well worth a visit. The fort itself is impressive, with beautifully restored spaces and excellent views over the Grand Harbour. The exhibitions are clear, informative, and thoughtfully laid out, covering Malta’s military history in a way that’s easy to follow and engaging. The museum does a great job of providing context, especially around WWII, without feeling overwhelming. It’s an interesting and rewarding stop, particularly if you’re already exploring Valletta, and a good balance of history, atmosphere, and setting.

Fort St. Elmo is a historically significant site offering a deep insight into Malta’s military past. The fort and the history of Malta at war is very interesting. The stead of the National War Museum over different buildings makes it more appealing. Beautiful views all around!

Must visit if you're into history. The place has one of the best interactive media journies and showcases the history of Malta and its history in wolrd wars so well. Honestly, I was expecting a really beautiful fort with a bit of history here and there but at the end of the 2 hours we spent here with my partner, both her and I were really impressed by the media and immersion. Definitely don't skip the second floor!
