We just moved up to North Dakota and was spending our afternoon just seeing what there is to do for a day trip. We came across Fort Union and we enjoyed our self guided tour (along with a little rabbit who joined us). The gentleman inside was really kind and informative. We enjoyed our day and learned some great history.

Very interesting recreational of the trading post that was here. You really get a sense of how many people came through here and how important it was to the area.

Interesting info. Very remote. Had an interesting chat with "local" mountain men reinactors. If you are interested in trade and early interactions between whites and native Americans, and you're nearby, well worth the visit.

Beautiful place but what really made it awesome was the guys who was doing reenacting that got stuck there another day because of rain. We sat down with them for a while talking. They are canoing down the river and doing everything like back in them days. It was so awesome. They was very knowledgeable and we could sit and talk for hrs. I think people would be more interested in learning about the history with things like this going on.. to me it made the whole experience come alive. Thank you to the 3 gentleman that talked with us and made the experience more alive.

Visited Fort Union on 6/22/2024. Had a great time! The rendezvous was happening, so there were people dressed in period attire and they were giving demonstrations. It was worth the drive out there to walk around and learn about the history of the area.

In North Dakota for the first time, we spent the morning immersed in the captivating history of a trading post,
I always recommend going to national parks/monuments. So much to learn and see in these places .
Ample parking. Restrooms onsite.

Pretty cool history. We were fairly close, so we made the trip to visit and my wife got a stamp in her National Park passport. Not sure I would recommend that you go there if that was the only thing you were going to see.

We enjoy history and this is the first time to actually get to tour this fort. They have a cart ride available if needed which was very helpful for us. There is no charge but a donation box is in the gift shop.
