Fort Young Hotel and Dive Resort

Stayed at Fort Young end of January for 1 week with a diving group. Our room was oceanview and was beautiful! The oceanview was stunning and the chairs on the balcony were very comfy to sit in. The beds were good and shower had good pressure and hot water. The food was also very good, lots of options to choose from and everything we ate didnt disappoint. The dive shop was also fantastic! We spend the week diving and our guides and boat captains were all so friendly and fun! They took their time to show us things underwater and we had fun surface intervals! My partner ended up requiring to go to the hospital at the end of our stay and the hotel was fantastic and helpful! They drove us there, tried to help as much as they could with the doctors and brought us anything we needed such as blankets and pillows and food if we needed. They were in contact with us the entire time and had security pick us up to return us when we were ready to go home and ensured food was ready and delivered to our room when we got in late at night. Thank you to Billy & Jeff for helping with the situation and the rest of fort young who made it a less stressful event! Thanks to all the dive shop crew members for a great week!

Fort Young hotel is perhaps the premier place to vacation in Roseau, capital of Dominica. My kids and I spent 8 nights there recently, we preferred the room with a balcony facing the Caribbean Sea to the 1st Mountain view/inland facing room. Both rooms were 1st class, service was friendly and professional. The concierge, Vivianna was especially helpful to me in planning excursions. We are not divers but really enjoyed a great whale watching trip one afternoon, where we spotted several whales and calfs. The food was wonderful and we enjoyed the pool, hot tub, and other amenities. The location is terrific, you can watch cruise ships come and go and you are right downtown harbourside, easy walking distance to many points in the charming, bustling town of Roseau. We had rented a car and Fort Young's location allowed us to access many points of interest on the beautiful island of Dominica. I also enjoyed the 1st rate gym facilities. We highly recommend Fort Young hotel when visiting Dominica!

The hotel has recently undergone a major renovation that brings a fresh and modern feel to its historic setting, blending the charm of the old fort with updated rooms and amenities and I truly enjoyed the improvements. My room was clean, comfortable, and beautifully appointed, with lovely views that made mornings and evenings special. The location right on the waterfront in Roseau is perfect for exploring the capital and enjoying Caribbean sunsets. What stood out most was the service the staff were friendly, welcoming, and always ready to help. Dominica in general has a relaxed pace, and while service can sometimes feel a bit slow at moments, the warmth and professionalism of the team here more than made up for it. The hotel’s facilities including the pool, restaurants, and dive centre offer plenty to enjoy, and the setting really makes you feel like you’re on a memorable island getaway. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Dominica, especially if you’re interested in a blend of history, comfort, and seaside charm.

My friend and I stayed at the Fort Young Hotel for a full week in mid-February while visiting Dominica for Carnival, and the experience was outstanding from start to finish. From the moment we arrived, everything ran smoothly. The hotel arranged our airport transportation in advance, which made arrival stress-free. Check-in was warm and welcoming, and we were delighted to be given a top-floor oceanfront room. The view was spectacular—each morning we could watch cruise ships arriving while enjoying the sea breeze from our room. The accommodations themselves were excellent: very comfortable bedding, tasteful furnishings, and a peaceful atmosphere that made it easy to relax after busy days exploring. One of the hotel’s strongest points is its ideal location, especially during Carnival. Being within easy reach of festivities made it effortless to enjoy the celebrations while still having a comfortable retreat to return to. Dining & Breakfast The food on property was consistently very good and fairly priced—not inflated like at many resort hotels. Breakfast, included with our stay, was especially impressive. The buffet featured a wide selection including sweet breads, waffles, pancakes, toast, fresh juices, and excellent coffee. There was also an omelet station for made-to-order eggs, plus classic breakfast items like bacon and sausage. What really made breakfast special was the inclusion of local Dominican dishes such as saltfish, cocoa tea, baked sweet potato, and plantains. Fresh fruit and yogurt were always plentiful, which we appreciated. It felt like both a cultural experience and a satisfying start to the day. Tours & Activities We booked two excursions through the hotel’s dive shop: • a morning snorkel trip (including Champagne Reef), and • an afternoon whale-watching tour. Both were fantastic. The crew was professional, friendly, and knowledgeable. We saw pilot whales and dolphins and enjoyed some of the best snorkeling of the trip. We also arranged a private island tour through the hotel that included Tutu Gorge, Trafalgar Falls, and hot springs. Our driver, Clem, was entertaining and flexible. When we found Trafalgar crowded, we changed plans on the spot and went to a quieter hot spring instead. That flexibility—plus the fact that the private tour cost less than some group tours offered locally—was a pleasant surprise. Staff Excellence The highlight of the entire stay was the staff. Everyone we encountered was genuinely friendly and helpful, but two individuals especially stood out: • Bernadette — exceptionally warm and personable. We happened to meet her outside the hotel while looking for somewhere to eat, and she personally took us to her aunt’s restaurant so we could try traditional Dominican broth. She made sure we were well taken care of and greeted us warmly whenever we saw her afterward. • Viviana (Concierge) — extremely helpful and attentive in arranging tours and ensuring everything during our stay went smoothly. Their kindness and hospitality truly elevated our experience. ⸻ ✅ Overall: We would give the Fort Young Hotel our highest recommendation. Between the comfortable rooms, excellent location, great food, well-organized excursions, and—most importantly—the genuinely caring staff, it was a memorable stay. Combined with the vibrant Carnival atmosphere and the natural beauty of Dominica, the trip was simply fantastic.

Really nice hotel with friendly and always smiling staff. The dive shop is perfect. Rooms are big, comfortable, and well maintained. I stayed in an ocean-front room with a balcony — the view was absolutely amazing. My stay was exactly what I needed: peace, rest, and diving. I also did the waterfall tour, which I highly recommend. The hotel is very close to the city center, which is a big plus. The only downside is the food, which is not at the same level as the rest. Airport transfers can be organized by the hotel, and the drivers are also very kind and helpful. Special recommendation for the whale-watching tour: a must-do. Small group (around 20 people), plenty of space on the boat, and very respectful of nature and animals. I was lucky enough to see several whales and dolphins. A really great place to stay!

This is the safest island with the nicest people. Fort young is perfectly located in a quiet, relaxing area with a beautiful view. The diving is exceptional, lots of coral and life. The dive shop and hotel staff are top notch h and you feel like family when you’re here. I’ll definitely return. I’ve been in 5 star hotels that didn’t compare to here. My only complaint is they should have more lunging chairs by the pool/hottub. Can’t wait to return with the family next time. Amazing tours right from the hotel that I enjoyed more than my visits to Maui and Oahu. Dominica is the untouched version. Cant wait to return with the family next, just hopefully they can handle the narrow winding steep roads on the entire island.

We had such an amazing experience here. I have traveled through so many hotels, and this one has got to be one of my favorite. Simply because the staff was amazing and so helpful. I felt like a valued guest because they went above and beyond to assist us. The facilities were clean, spotless. Food was amazing! Breakfast was fantastic, such a large selection with yummy local delights. I am looking forward to visiting Dominica again just to be able yo stay at this beautiful hotel!

I just stayed at Fort Young Hotel for a week and overall had a good experience. The food was pretty good. I had the breakfast and dinner package. Breakfast was basically the same every day, which got a little old after a week, but it was fine. Dinner was better about switching things up — some nights were buffet style and other nights you ordered off a menu with around 10 options. I also ate lunch at the hotel a few times and enjoyed it. The bar and drinks were good, but availability was inconsistent. I really wanted mojitos, but out of 7 days they only had mint twice. They also ran out of Caribe Rosé by about day two of my trip, which was disappointing. One thing that got constantly annoying was the billing process. Even though everything was supposed to go to my package, every single transaction took longer than it needed to, with signing bills and extra steps each time. It adds up and gets old quickly over a week-long stay. I’m sure there can be a better way. I’ve been to resorts that have different levels but the colors of the bands mean different things. The food and beverage staff were mostly friendly and helpful. Special shout out to Victoria, Nya, Mariah, and Brenton (and more but can’t remember all the names) — they really stood out and made things better (hopefully I spelled everyone’s names right). The hotel does seem short-staffed at times. For example, one day I had lunch by the dive shop and there were about 10 tables assigned to one server. The staff works hard, but you can definitely feel it. The pool area is great and very relaxing. I do wish there were more lounge chairs, and the ones they have could be more comfortable. Front desk staff were great and very helpful. Security was also excellent. As a woman traveling solo, I felt extremely safe the entire time. By day two, it felt like a lot of the staff realized I was there alone and genuinely looked out for me, which I really appreciated. Special shout out to Viviana at the concierge desk, who truly went above and beyond for me. I also did the sunset cruise which was very nice! Overall, Fort Young is a solid place to stay with great staff and a strong sense of safety. With better staffing, more consistent bar inventory, and a smoother billing process, it would be even better.
