Fortaleza de São João Baptista do Pico

Entrance tickets- 6€ person. Excellent view to the city! Nothing else))

Not free entry as mentioned in other reviews, it’s now €6 each adult up to age 64, 65+ is €3 each. Not a lot to see, exhibits are minimal, no brochure as previously mentioned. Other than nice views across Funchal which you can see for free from any other viewpoint. Wouldn’t recommend the walk up, if you want to visit a fort, go to the one in old town Funchal

Quite a walk uphill to this place from the sea front so you might want to take a taxi! Great views once you're at the top of the castle. Some interesting old prints and historical information in the small museum section. There is a toilet. Entrance is free.

Worth a little trip for the great view over Funchal. Also liked the reprints showing old drawings of the city. Other than that it is pretty empty. At least there is no entrance fee.

Amazing views. It is a steep climb but worth it

If you are walking, either path from the old town up to this fortaleza is a bit tedious through narrow streets with traffic and no sidewalks (at times). You will be rewarded with nice views and a small exhibition around the history of the castle. The cafe inside the fortaleza is currently closed but the one on the north side (you will have to walk around the castle to get there) is open and beautiful.

Worth a visit for the views across funchal alone. 30 minutes is all that is needed and parking and a cafe available .
