Local fortification towards the sea. Whike it is an interesting place to see with its expressive yellow color, the information provided it scarce to say the least. Still, the view of sea and city are nice and offer good photo opportunities if you skip the noon sun.

This is a lovely promenade which is very spacious, there isn’t much going on unless you go to the centre of Funchal but still nice to relax and spend time watching the sunrise. It is a good distance to walk and not too far and quite accessible.

A huge yellow fortress built in the 17th century to protect the city from pirate attacks. The place is not well maintained and beautiful, and it seems to have an excellent restaurant.

Yellow building at far end of harbour. Not a great deal to inside it offers good view of Funchal area. Several cafes nearby. OK to pass a hour or so.

There isn't a whole lot to see, but it is worth the walk up for the views and the bathroom (wc). It's all open to the public and fun to look around.

Super cool spot in Funchal with free entry! Follow the signs for the restaurant and go past the courtyard to enter the fortress. It's not a super massive place, but you can spend a good 20-30 minutes walking around and taking pictures. You can catch some beautiful views of the ocean and Funchal from the turret windows!

This is also known as Saint James Fort. It was built in the early 17th century as a fortress to defend the port of Funchal. The fort is a military style architecture. Located above the seafront in Funchal Old Quaters commonly known as Zona Velha. In the 1500's there were a number of Pirate attacks in which many people were killed. So the Fort was built in the early 17th century to defend the Port and the City against the Pirate attacks. Today it houses the Museum of Contemporary Art and a there is a pleasant restaurant overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.
