17 Best Things to Do in Houston

"Heights Mercantile is a hip retail and restaurant development that includes a mix of national and local shops, some housed in restored bungalows. Forth and Nomad is designed to reflect the heartbeat of this neighborhood, which is renowned for its support of local brands and businesses. Merchandised like a mini gallery, the lifestyle boutique stocks a rotating mix of leather goods, succulents, artisanal cocktail instruments, jewelry, candles, and other goods made by area designers. It recently added a hip coffee bar with locally roasted beans." - Charu Suri

Stopped in while shopping in the heights and needed something to cool off. I had the soul chai and it was so good. Just the right amount of spice.

One of my favorite coffee places in the Heights! Usually order a Cortado with a bit of simple syrup. Enjoy sitting outside on the deck when the weather is pleasant. I think Forth and Nomad would greatly benefit from having EV Chargers in their parking lot! Would bring me over a lot more. I know a local Houston business, Pangea Charging, offers installation services.

Google
I’m very picky about my coffee and I’m always in search of a great espresso! The Coffee Shop espresso is my favorite in Houston right now! They’re doing everything right! It doesn’t hurt that there are also a bunch of cute shops you can browse while you wait for your coffee! Another highlight for me is that they sell non alcoholic aperitifs and adaptogenic beverages which is great to know since I’ve been ordering mine online and it’s just nice to know I could swing by anytime if I need to buy something last minute! :)

Google
In a convenient location in the heights. Not the most comfortable atmosphere, it looks like a clothing store inside with a coffee shop in the front. This place has your typical coffee shop ambiance, nothing special about it. There was one barista working when I visited. I tried an iced teddy graham coffee. It was not good. Would I come back? That would be a no.

Google
I’ve always loved the ambiance of this place, but the service has been consistently disappointing. The baristas could really benefit from proper customer service training. One in particular, a shorter barista, was noticeably rude, lacked a welcoming attitude, and didn’t even offer a smile. Additionally, the wait time for coffee is unusually long. I usually tip generously, but this experience made it difficult to do so. The café is clearly aiming for a high-end, polished atmosphere, but service is just as important as aesthetics. Unfortunately, this level of service doesn’t align with the refined experience they seem to be striving for. Since I visit whenever I’m in town and have encountered the same issues multiple times, I’ll be reaching out to the owner directly. I truly hope they take steps to improve, as I’d love to continue supporting this café.

Google
First off, I liked the 7AM open time. I also liked the Slayer machine used at the location. It is a shared space with a clothing store, but the decor of the coffee bar makes for a nice separation of spaces. The barista working pulled a great double espresso and the Cortado was equally tasty.

Google
First off let me say this place is GORGEOUS. You can find everything from clothing & jewelry to candles, oils to books/journals & let’s not forget the coffee shop. I snagged me a lavender honey latte with oat milk, yes yes recommended. I will definitely be stopping back there to try the other espresso drinks & some shopping 🛍️. Let me also tell you that they have a candle making class on certain days (book ahead of time) and my first candle making experience was amazing! The hosts were super friendly, patient when explaining the candle making process and overall great vibes. They have different options for their complementary drinks so that’s a plus. I give this experience 11/10 because they went above and beyond to create such a welcoming atmosphere for everyone. I definitely recommend for a solo date (like I did) or even for couples and friend dates. All is welcome. I will definitely be doing this again & stopping by again, thank you so much for great vibes while I was Houston 🥳

Google
Gorgeous concept store with beautiful interior design. There is a coffee shop nestled within the store. You can find clothes, hats (Gigi Pip!), jewelry, ceramics, coffee table books, and gifts here. There’s a lot to explore, and it’s perfect if you’re looking for a cool gift.

Yelp
I've gotten permanent jewelry here before and wanted to come again with my mom and grandma, unfortunately we came right after a storm so the power was out in the shop. The owners met us outside and explained they still did not have power but recommended us to go to another shop to get the jewelry! She was so sweet and even looked up where the other shop was located so we could easily find it! I would absolutely recommend coming here to look around their shop, it is so cute and the coffee is amazing!! Knowing that the owners are so sweet makes the experience of shopping here even better! Love this place!!!

Yelp
I love this artisan store/coffee bar. There's a few tables, chairs and a couch for seating and doing work or reading. I like their Not a Macchiato with oat milk. They sell everything from children and adult clothing, bags, jewelry (permanent and regular), candles, scents, stationary, books, teas, clay mugs/jewelry dishes, and wellness products. There's even a candle bar where you can sign up for a candle making class. While you shop, you can grab coffee or tea or order at the window to-go, if you don't want to go inside. I can find fair-priced clothing here once in a while like their denim skirts and jeans. Surprisingly, the jeans are a good length for my petite frame. There's a small parking lot, or if you're walking, it's also a stone's throw detour from the Heights trail and other shops and eateries along Yale where you can park and walk across. You can tap to pay for purchases.

Yelp
This place is such a vibe! There are various vendors selling candles, clothes, jewelry etc. I came here to get "Zapped" at Nina Berenato Bracelet Bar. The staff were super friendly. I'm loving my permanent bracelet & can't wait to get more. Afterwards I stopped for some artisan coffee at Cafe Forth! This is a great place to spend a Saturday!

Yelp
Forth & Nomad is an adorable lifestyle marketplace and I absolutely LOVED it. As soon as I walked in, I was amazed! I loved everything about it - the decor, the clothing, the accessories, the coffee shop, the vibes - just everything. I spent my time combing every inch of the store just to make sure I didn't miss anything before leaving as a very happy customer. Make sure to check it out if you're ever in the area! Even if you don't buy anything, this is such a fun store to visit. There's even a great coffee shop, called The Coffee Bar, located inside.

Yelp
This is a really calming artisan market with a coffee shop located inside. There's several pockets with (I assume) different vendors selling. It ranges from apparel to accessories, stationery, and even a candle-making area! (I thought that was pretty cool - it's neatly tucked in the back). I loved that there weren't any associates constantly asking if I needed help. I get it, customer service - but it adds unnecessary pressure to have to pick something. Price-wise, it's definitely $$$. Again, it is a very clean aesthetic and a great environment to showcase goods. There was a good amount of seating by the coffee shop, featuring high and low options. The price for the coffee was a lot for my taste. Chocolate croissant was $8 and almond & cardamom croissant $9. Again... The only other pastry available was a scone, so limited in terms of food. Purchased drip coffee: $4.35 (blk no cream; vanilla syrup: .95cents incl.)

Yelp
This is shop is such a vibe! I went in for coffee and the barista was patient while I checked out their specialties. He was very encouraging for us to try something new. I went with the iced honey lavender latte and it was so good. They balanced the flavors perfectly. While waiting on our order we walked around the shop which has so many precious gift options. They also have a permanent jewelry station and candle making class here. Indoor seating is limited but there are additional spots outside.

Yelp
Such a CUTE little spot. Definitely is an adorable market space. They have clothing, accessories, cookbooks, decor.... a place to make bracelets and candles.. and of course coffee. A cute little couch to sit and relax and plenty of indoor/outdoor seating. Parking kinda was annoying, but definitely gave me urban outfitters vibe!
google avatar

Rykiel D.

Yelp
Stopped by for coffee -- I got the Teddy Graham! It has to be one of the best I've had in a while :)! The barista was so nice and the place is very peaceful and parking wasn't hard to find either :D
google avatar

Evelyne T.

Yelp
The coffee bar area is small but well-lit and surprisingly conducive to working. Parking is kind of a pain, however, because everyone appears to want to go to the acai bowl place right next door. I got a Grey Sky tea, which wasn't particularly notable for the price point, but the cafe/boutique is a nice place to visit for the atmosphere and unique setup.
google avatar

Yelp
The cutest boutique with coffee counter. Went here for their candle making class with a bachelorette party and it was such a great experience, the room is tucked nicely in the back of the store away from other customers. The instructor was knowledgeable, friendly and offered her opinions when asked. *slightly disappointed after burning the candle because it burned very quickly and wasn't as fragrant as it was hyped up to be* after the class we shopped around the store, they have high quality clothes and jewelry and the coffee shop was the perfect touch, grab a coffee and browse the store.

Yelp
What a pleasant surprise this store was for me. So beautifully curated and decorated. So many options here. They sell clothes, accessories, jewelry. They have a coffee bar inside. They also offer permant jewelry. And a section of food and cook books. Excited to come back
google avatar

Michelle B.

Yelp
Such a cute shop if you're looking for gifts or clothes. Super pleasantly decorated. Items are unique and reasonably priced. Coffee on the other hand, super overpriced. $7 for an iced latte with lavender and honey, sub almond milk. I appreciate the love and care that went into making it, but there's no reason coffee should cost that much.

Yelp
One of my top 3 coffee shop in Houston! Easy to find, plenty of parking. Awesome outdoor seatings, amazing shopping store with well made brands and of course tasty coffee menu! I can't wait to go back for more coffee and take my time to shop.

Yelp
I've been a loyal customer of this place for years, always enjoying my coffee and browsing their cute stuff. But my recent experience left me deeply disappointed. I finally found something I couldn't resist two weeks ago, but when I got it home, it just didn't fit right. Not a problem, I thought, since their flyer clearly stated returns and exchanges were welcome within 30 days. Yet, when I tried to return it before the deadline, the manager shut me down coldly, insisting they only accepted returns within 7 days. I had also noticed they had new flyers out at the register that were different than the one they had given me. She even had the audacity to claim they've had the same policy for the past 7 years and spoke to me as if I was crazy. For a second I thought I must have read it wrong and let her be rude and just walked alway. I had to drive all the way back home to fetch the flyer just to prove her wrong. And instead of admitting fault, she brushed it off as a mistake and kept arguing and making excused that I later also found to be wrong. Instead of being nice and apologizing which is soso easy she decided to gaslight me when I Was literally shaking since I absolutely hate confrontation and having to defend myself. It's heartbreaking that a store I once loved for its charm and pricey items would treat its loyal customers with such disregard and disrespect.

Yelp
I visit this shop often because there's always cute items to see and pick up. I enjoy the chill vibe of the shop where you can view everything at your pace and time. The coffee shop inside also has great coffee. The coffee is smooth and good.

Yelp
Cute & quaint spot. I love the aesthetic & the matcha was 10/10. Just enough sweet. My barista was helpful & energetic.

Yelp
Cute little concept in the Heights. It definitely gives off a West Coast meets ATX vibe. Trendy, carrying the latest and greatest. They carry the brand RicherPoorer, which I absolutely LOVE. Doubles as a coffee shop during the day, and you can sip and peruse their shop! Gents! there's even a barber shop/shaving station in there! So there's something for everyone. My hubs and I had a "day date" in the Heights this past friday, and I had been meaning to check out F & D for the longest, so we finally made our way there, only to find out that their coffee shop closes at 3PM on weekdays, and 4PM on weekends. Super bummed because we had driven all the way from suburbia in hopes for a yummy cup of joe while we strolled through the shop! Nonetheless, the associate was kind enough to offer us complimentary beer since we didn't get our coffee. I really appreciated that extra extension of customer service she provided! It definitely makes me want to return and try their coffee next time around. Poor research on my part. :)

Yelp
This is one of the most beautiful coffee shops I have ever been to. Great customer service and decent coffee. This coffee shop seems to be hidden inside a huge store which is like an indoor market of local handcrafted goods. The coffee is not strong enough for me but this place is definitely a beautiful place to sit and chill with friends and it's great date spot.
google avatar

Rachael P.

Yelp
Really cute place with great coffee. I had the Teddy Graham and asked for less honey than usual so it wasn't too sweet. It was perfect.

R P.

Yelp
The hot cocoa tastes like dishwater. How do you serve someone a cup of dishwater and ask for $4 in return with a straight face?

Yelp
Came in from Galveston to get my aura read by Mood by Moss from Austin (today only) I've had my aura read from her back in 2018... wanna see if there's any difference. There was...it was much better this year! About the store...very minimalistic and open. Love the space. Lots of different things...from different artisans: clothing, candles, dish ware, leather items, etc; not cheap. There was also a vendor from Driftwood, TX that was giving away free cocktails of this wild harvested hand crafted sotol plant that grows wild in the hill country; very earthy..liked it. I had the desert paloma with grapefruit juice, agave , lime juice and of course the desert door texas sotol alcohol. See photos BUY LOCAL SUPPORT LOCAL

Yelp
Forth and Nomad offers great coffee and cute sustainably made women's clothing, jewelry, and home goods. I visited a couple weeks ago to check out their coffee bar and fell in love with the modern and cozy aesthetics of the store! They have a couple couches, a study bar, and a huge table with hanging outlets for people to have conversations or get work done. I ordered the Teddy Graham Latte with oat milk and it was delicious! Not too sweet and the coffee beans tasted high quality, although I wish the espresso was a little stronger. The service was also great and the employees were super friendly. There's a huge parking lot on the side of the store so available parking space isn't an issue. Overall, I will definitely be back to try more of their flavored lattes and get some studying done!

Yelp
As soon as you walk, you get greeted by the smell of scented candles. The coffee shop is inside the store. Great spot to come and browse their boutique store (clothes, candles, ceramics, jewelry, etc...). Really makes you wanna get something. I didn't try their coffee since it was late in the afternoon already so opted for mango tango iced tea. It was very refreshing and they even top it off with a slice of mango. Plenty of parking spots but be warned that indoor seating is limited. Spacious outdoor seating though!
google avatar

Meera P.

Yelp
The cutest little coffee shop! Easy to find parking. Went around 1pm on a Friday - there was no line/ wait, and it was the perfect atmosphere (not too dead, not too busy). The staff was patient while we skimmed the menu, and our drinks were ready within 5 minutes. While our order was pretty basic - an iced vanilla latte and an iced caramel latte with oat milk - I have to admit the coffee was FANTASTIC. You get a relatively large volume of beverage compared to other coffee shops in the area that charge a similar rate. Will be back to visit again :)
google avatar

Yelp
Forth & Nomad is such a cool shop. They have their own parking lot and a cafe. It smells heavenly when you walk in bc of the candles that greet you at the front. They have a unique array of products and you can make your own candle. I even saw a guy getting his haircut. The coffee shop section serves pastries from Koffeteria, which is sooooo delicious, and the coffee is pretty darn good too. You can chill inside or outside on the patio for some people watching at nearby Heights Merchantile.
google avatar

Sara C.

Yelp
I love stopping in here for coffee on the weekends. The shop is so cute and there is always something new to browse as they make your drink. I've never had anything bad here and love that they showcase small businesses and local artists. One of the best coffee shops in Houston. Definitely stop in if you're in the area.
google avatar

Ten T.

Yelp
Love this place. Good selection and service is great. They have a store inside where you can shop with several artisan goods. Always come here when I just want to chill , I don't know I just love this place.
google avatar

Joy L.

Yelp
I would give 5 stars for the ambience of this place because it is SO well designed - very aesthetic, trendy, and just overall visually stunning. The concept itself is unique because it's an indoor market of locally handcrafted goods! You won't be bored here since there's so many things you could browse and shop for, definitely reminds me of boho and chic boutique stores in Austin. I visited this place just for their coffee bar after passing by it a couple times and hearing good things from my friend. The honey lavender latte that I got, which was one of their specials, was NOT strong at all and tasted super diluted. I really wanted to love this drink because my favorite type of coffee is a lavender latte but this tasted so light and was almost like drinking water! I could not really taste the honey, nor the lavender, and the espresso itself was also not strong at all. Very disappointed in their drink but the store itself is a different story. I would come back for their handmade soaps, candles, and home goods! The scents they have are very unique and smell really amazing. I also love the artistic ceramic pieces they had like bowls, cups, and plates. Definitely expensive but super cute and Pinterest board worthy. There are plenty of parking spaces outside but there's limited seating inside with a couple couches and a high rise table with plugs, so not the most ideal place if you're looking to study or concentrate, but great for getting some work done if you're nearby.
google avatar

Brittany T.

Yelp
Love this place! It has everything. To start, the drip coffee and chai tea latte we ordered were amazing. The iced dirty chai tea latte with oat milk is one of the best ones I've tried so far in the city. I LOVED it. This place is super unique since it isn't just a coffee bar, it also is a full store with cute individual shops inside. There was a boutique, beauty store and even a barber! I will be back time and time again. There's even a super cute boutique right next door you can walk over to after getting your coffee. Can't say enough about this place and location! Staff is very friendly as well!
google avatar

Sara A.

Yelp
By far the cutest shop in the Heights with a coffee shop. It's super trendy with everything from build your own candle workshops to clothes to shop from! There is enough seating indoor and out to enjoy your coffee - which was very flavorful! There is an attached free parking lot!
google avatar

Tommie S.

Yelp
Candle Making! You gotta try it. I went for a first date, but it would also be great for a group activity. Garrett facilitated our "creations," and he was very patient. While some of the other items in the store are pricey, be sure to sign up for their newsletter; maybe the coupon will help. I really wanted a piece of jewelry, but the store nor the designer's website detailed the stone. And for $200 for a sterling silver necklace w/ an unknown stone, I just couldn't do it. But the customer service involved in the attempt to answer my questions about the stone was great!
google avatar

Imari P.

Yelp
Did candle making with my partner and had a great experience! The store is very cute itself, the coffee bar was cool to have in there and also the candle making class in the back. We enjoyed every bit of it, smelling the different aroma's and learning the process of making a candle was more fun and interesting than I thought it would be. We peeked around the store before too before starting, they have some nice pieces in there. Also, they greeted us and asked if we wanted anything to drink such as wine and other beverages. Definitely a place to go for a date. It's a nice intimate setting, but it's also fun.. well if you make it fun I recall us laughing the entire time. Loved it!

Alexa P.

Yelp
Right when I walked it I felt unwelcome. But I knew I was when a women named Erika insisted on holding all of my clothing as if I was going to steal it. I told her I haven't tried anything on yet and she said okay. I understand it's common to hold stuff for the shopper and that's fine. But I was the only POC women in there and every one else's stuff was being staged for them in the dressing room!! Then when I was to the register to ask for it back to try it on she already wrapped it up to go. When I tried to take them to try on she seems extremely hesitant to give them to me!! Then she checked on me five minutes later as if to signify "I'm keeping tabs on you." I feel like it was racially motivated as everyone there being attended to with respect was white. The store was well kept up with but I will not be coming back.
google avatar

Dani C.

Yelp
I love stopping by Forth & Nomad to pick out cute cards and coffee! They typically carry Kofeeteria baked goods so there's no going wrong with their coffee bar! While stopping by I noticed a candle making class and thought it would make for a great date night. The staff was incredibly kind, accommodating and knowledgeable. While we were there, there was one other couple that was socially distanced from us while we made our candles. You could easily purchase a candle for much less, however the experience of creating a scent, naming the candle and enjoying each others company was well worth it! I would highly recommend looking into a candle class or purchasing an at home kit!

Beth R.

Yelp
I received a gift from this store and decided to bring the gift in and exchange it. After finding the new item I wanted, I went to the counter where they asked if I had a gift receipt, which unfortunately the gift giver had not put in the bag. They asked the date the items were purchase, which obviously I didn't know. They asked the gift givers name and after checking their system, told me they could not find all the items from the purchase under the persons name, but that they had just gone through a POS change and it could be that. Basically after this back and forth exchange, they said there was nothing they could do without a gift receipt or the date of the purchase of the items. I was dumbfounded simply because I was not asking for a refund, just a simple exchange. The items were in a bag from the store and were all originally packaged with price tags still attached actually. I have literally never had that happen to me at ANY retail store EVER, large or small. Very disappointing and unfortunate for them because they lost at least one potential future customer right here. Buyer beware!!
google avatar

Chris C.

Yelp
We absolutely love Forth and Nomad. Our go to coffee is iced vanilla latte with oat milk. All of their kids stuff issuer stylish. The vibe and interior is extremely inviting. I could definitely hang out there for hours. Location is walking distance to a few spots which make it convenient to grab a coffee or shop and grab lunch across the street.
google avatar

Rachel C.

Yelp
I love this space! So cute and chic and inside with locally sourced clothing and goods. This instantly became my new favorite Houston store. The clothes and goods are beautiful and I wish I could buy it all! They have events weekly which are great for making friends and networking. My friend and I attended the coffee throwdown and it was so much fun. At our first visit to the store Morgan was so welcoming and showed us around. She also gave my friends some free beer! There is a barber and coffee bar on site. Not only is this a store, it's a creative space. I love the atmosphere and vibe. I highly recommend checking it out while you are in the Heights!
google avatar

Jacquelyn C.

Yelp
So happy for this awesome couple. Loved their original Smaller store and was so excited to see the new one. I went to the grand opening and got some free goodies yay. This is my favorite spot to buy jewelry. Always unique and always a great price. Omg the workshops that they do are so so so great, thank you so much for bringing this to the community. Seriously my fav spot in the heights. And they have coffee on Saturdays!
google avatar

Hope L.

Yelp
We wanted to do their candle bar for a bachelorette, but last minute had to move to a virtual party. They were so accommodating and flexible as I communicated with the other girls in the party to get candle take-home kits put together! And they have such a joyful, respectful staff. Great experience!!
google avatar

Patricia J.

Yelp
I really wanted to do candle making as an activity with my bachelorette party and a Google search brought up Forth and Nomad. They were very responsive through Facebook messenger, and assured me that they would be able to refund a class spot if I were to have any no shows since we were such a large group. You can only book up to 10 people, but if you contact them they might be able to accommodate a few more in their workshop space. We had 8 people in our group and were able to fit comfortably. The heavy lifting part of the candle making is already done for you, you really spend more time creating your custom scent, and naming your candle. Our group was completely fine with that! It was very easy, and it was a lot of fun figuring out the scent combinations we each wanted. The candles do take 1.5 - 2 hours to dry, so we actually just picked our candles up the next day. The store itself is absolutely beautiful, and there were some nice areas where we were able to take some group photos. Wine and beer is served throughout the workshop which is a nice touch! For any coffee lovers or non-drinkers there is a little cafe at the front of the store. I really love the store mission of supporting local artists and their work. Definitely recommend if you're looking for some beautiful local goods from Houston, or need a fun group activity.

Yelp
I love this shop so much! I came here specifically for a cup of coffee, which happened to be the best coffee I've ever had. This barista knows how to make an americano. The coffee choice they use is perfect. It can be hard to find a great cup of coffee with amazing service like here. I'm so impressed by Forth and Nomad. I was unsure if they had an outdoors area to relax at but I was soon assured that they do. They have a beautiful front area and a shaded back area with a few tables. The music playing was a choice no one could disagree with. Pure bliss. Other than the amazing coffee and relaxing area to drink it at, the indoor shop was amazing as well. The parfumerie area featured the most amazing scents. The handmade cups and plates were tastefully beautiful. The clothing options were so nice. The jewelry was amazing to look at. The cards were so creative and a joy to look through. What a great establishment!

Yelp
Went for their birthday the other day. (Hilarious that stores have birthday parties - love it.) Got a beautiful candle and a smashing coffee. Shop for great Xmas presents and treat myself with a latte? Yes, please!

Sam M.

Yelp
Super fun to go and check out what they have! The pottery, jewelry, hair accessories, and unique food items were really fun to peruse. I did not get a chance to try the coffee but the menu looked good! If you are looking for something to do in the afternoon and want to add some fun items to you home, I would recommend!

Yelp
Fantastic beautifully curated selection of local goods. The owners are helpful and attentive. Love it all!

Jacob S.

Yelp
Forth and Nomad is a great shop in a fantastic location. The owners are amazing and so friendly. Every time I've been here I have had a great experience. They are constantly adding new things to the space which makes me want to go back more and more often. If you're in Houston you should definitely go check this place out, and if you're there at the right time you can attend a candle making workshop!
google avatar

Ivan V.

Yelp
Love this place. The vibe takes me to a cleanse but rustic atmosphere that it is really hard to find in Houston. Also they carry cool local brands and the selection of backpacks is to die for. The owners are super nice and very involved with the business. Also they have a coffee stand that is also serve by experienced baristas. Great place for gift shopping! Love it!
google avatar

Esther T.

Yelp
Shopping experience was fantastic. Loved the way all the items were displayed. The jewelry was beautiful. Loved the way they are supporting local artisans. Great place for gift ideas. If your in the Houston area it's a must see!

Yelp
I was looking for a unique Christmas experience for my son and came across this candle making class. We both thoroughly enjoyed our session and looking forward to going back.

Yelp
This store is the BOMB! The products are unique and the staff is second to none. Worth every penny for specially curated goods by brilliant local artists.

Caroline B.

Yelp
The minute I walked into Bespoke, I was flooded with unique artwork that I absolutely had to have! Every piece in this cute shop is made by local artists which makes the art all the better. You'll find pieces that are truly unique and won't be able to find anywhere else. Go support your local artists and take home a one of a kind piece!
