What a stunning view as we rode up to the castle on our motorcycle! It’s a pity you can’t really stop to take pictures on the way up, but some experiences are best enjoyed in the moment anyway. From a distance, the castle looks even more impressive than from inside — though the view from the top is absolutely worth it.

The fortress walls offer stunning views of Split. The fortress itself is rich in history, with many hidden corners and interesting spots, photogenic and unshakable. You can get there by city bus; it stops right under the fortress walls. The fortress is especially popular among fans of the TV series "Game of Thrones" (episodes were filmed there, and there's now a separate room with stills from the film, in which the fortress is easily recognizable). I haven't seen the series, but my visit to the fortress didn't disappoint.

One of our highlights from staying in Split. A very welcome escape from the chaos of the city and the visit to the nearby olive museum makes it even better value. The views are brilliant and the history of the fortress is fascinating. Even cooler that you get to say you’ve visited the fortress of Meereen from GoT!

Lovely sprawling castle parts dating back over 2000 years. Was used for Game Of Thrones too which as a fan was a nice surprise. Easy to get around but does have some slippery surfaces so those with difficulties walking be aware. Amazing views. Family of 3 adults and 1 child has €40 Also, make sure to say hi to the cat who has his own Google page for review.

A good place to visit to know about Dalmatian history. Fortress is not that much big but attractive, though renovation work is still on progress. View of Spilt sm as well as the sunset is really amazing.

Stunning Views, But the Fortress Itself Underwhelms. If you decide to visit Klis Fortress, go for the incredible panoramic views of Split and the surrounding area. They are truly worth it. However, I highly recommend tempering your expectations for the fortress itself. It feels more like a viewpoint with historical ruins than a fully-realized attraction, largely due to the ongoing construction and the underwhelming state of the exhibitions. The combination ticket with the Olive Museum is the best way to do it, as the museum provides a genuinely complete and enjoyable experience. We visited Klis Fortress using a combination ticket that also included entry to the Olive Museum in Klis. Let me start by saying the Olive Museum was a delightful surprise and highly enjoyable. Because of this combo deal, it initially felt like we were getting two attractions for the price of one. However, after visiting both, I'd say it's the other way around: you pay for the excellent Olive Museum and get a free, fantastic viewpoint at Klis Fortress. The best part of the Klis Fortress experience is undoubtedly the view. It's absolutely fantastic and one of the main reasons to make the trip. Getting there is also a breeze; it's easily accessible by public transport from Split. For only €1.50, you can take a local bus that drops you off right near the fortress, making it a very affordable excursion. A fun and modern touch inside were the photo opportunities provided by @lookat.sculptures. These interactive installations were a creative way to engage with the location and made for some great pictures! Unfortunately, once you're inside the fortress, the experience is a bit of a letdown. There isn't a great deal to see. A significant portion of the fortress, including the entire rear section, was under construction during our visit. This meant we couldn't access that area or enjoy the views from that perspective. The parts that have already been renovated lack a sense of authenticity. The roof tiles are brand new and don't fit the old, historic style you would expect. Meanwhile, other parts of the fortress are simply in a state of disrepair. The exhibitions were also disappointing. There was one small but interesting display of old weapons, maintained by a historical group, which was nice to see. However, it was a very small collection in a tiny building. The main building, the "Prince's Residence," also fell short of expectations. The residence was underwhelming. The toilets were outdated and they can't even be locked. The view from the main tower, which should have been a highlight, was spoiled by a large construction crane, fences, and pallets scattered below.

The fortress's history is intimately linked to the history of Croatia and its people, which has seen the passage of the Dalmatians, the Turks, the Venetians, and the Austro-Hungarians. The "key" to the mountains demonstrates that its ruler also controlled everything around it. The view from the fortress is impressive, as is the structure itself. Two photo points allow you to add the dragons from Game of Thrones; the armory exhibits ancient weapons such as swords, spears, and hammers, including a fine example of a "rusty" hand-and-half sword and ancient pistols. There is parking in the square below the fortress, as well as a free one along the road 100 meters before the site. Free restrooms are on the left, in the center of the fortress's main entrance; dogs are welcome. The fortress entrance ticket also includes access to the local olive oil museum.

Historical site with rich history. The fortress was very well conserved and maintained. Awesome sight. Being set against the top of the hill makes it even more grand. We love it and was wowed by its stunning architecture and the surrounding hills. Simply spectacular!! It's a must visit location if you're visiting Split.
