The Best City in the US for Shopping Is Exactly the One You Think It Is | Condé Nast Traveler

"Spanning 37,000 square feet downtown in Dallas, this store attempts to turn shopping into an art installation, with kinetic sculpture and Tracey Emin pieces woven into the retail environment so that browsing feels like moving through a gallery." - Paul Jebara

Google
Asked very nicely if we could see the eyeball from a spot near the entrance, but the staff member very rudely told me off that it was "private property". Clearly they do this a lot. Gee, thanks captain obvious. Maybe this business could consider adding a sign to guide people to the correct viewing place, instead of hiring someone to verbally abuse anyone who comes near.

Google
Horrible I placed an order and they canceled without any explanation. Apparently they didn’t want to sell the item at what it was marked on the website canceled my order and put the item back in the site at 3 times the price. I would never shop here ever.

Google
Looking for the entrance to the Giant Eyeball. We walked into the parking lot of this " retail" clothing store. A man walked out and promptly let us know it was private property. I was just 10 feet into the parking lot! Being a visitor and not knowing the area, I felt this staff member was completely rude.I could have dropped a dime buying some of the clothing if he actually had any sales experience or tact! But instead, he was being rude and haughty The store, which he said was private property, was not well marked, and they way the man acted made me think he was hiding a business that was not accessible to anyone! I'd give it no stars based on the rudeness of the staff. Why have a clothing store that chases off potential customers? I hope they see this and buy a gate if they dont want tresspassers or move their"clothing" store out of the business district! I am pretty sure the clothing that I saw in the window was purchased off of Shien or Temu, and they were trying to pass it off as high-end!

Google
Apparently you need to have a rich image or be of a particular ethnicity and socioeconomic status to be welcomed at this store. I was attempting to do an employee of your store a favor by hand-delivering a package intended for them that had been misdelivered to my place of employment. I found out that the person who package belonged to worked at 4510, and I verified with someone from 4510 to confirm that was the case. As I approached the store, I was told by a 4510 employee that 4510 is a private property and I could not be on it. Although my heart was in the right place, apparently, the hoodie I was wearing is worn and I don't fit the image of your store and your clientele. It's just unfortunate that the hearts and attitudes of your store and the folks that work there don't match the rich and wealthy image that you are attempting to cultivate and portray.

Google
Disgusting behavior from the staff. Stay away from this place!

Google
Beautiful luxury department store right across the street from Neiman Marcus downtown. Has several up and coming designers as well as traditional ones.

Google
Terrific ambiance, interesting events, and a varied selection of merchandise make this store a "must-visit" for luxury customers in Dallas.

Google
Very nice place and my kids enjoyed the free holiday treats.

Yelp
It's lovely to look at, and the displays are artfully arranged, but the location made me sad. It's closed on Sundays and Mondays. They want you to make an appointment to shop here but there's no one inside. The destitute situation in downtown Dallas also makes it seem depressing; who wants to shop in a store with no customers inside (since they won't let them in without an appointment) and then buy a $2k Rabanne dress with desperate homeless people outside? The security is fierce. I guess they need to be.

Yelp
BE WARNED!!! I asked the manager & the IT coordinator to remove my email address from their list of clients. They did not and still have not even though I asked in writing a number of times. In addition, I filed complaints with the BBB, Texas Attorney General and the Federal Trade Commission in which they have ignored all the complaints and the continuous demands. Manager: Robin Wilkes, IT coordinator: Arlette Silva. Due to my experience... Robin WILKES Her incompetence reaches staggering new heights. This pathetic excuse for a "manager" lacks even the self-awareness to recognize her own incompetence. Her leadership is as inconsequential as a lepton, and her professional conduct is an outright joke. Arlette SILVA A laughably inept "IT Coordinator" at Forty Five Ten, whose technical prowess rivals that of a box of hair. Even the simplest task--like removing an email address at a client's request--somehow exceeds her baffling incompetence. Frankly, this IT department would be more effective if it were staffed by lab-rejected monkeys from failed pharmaceutical trials. An embarrassment to the IT profession.

G G.

Yelp
Truly beautiful store - expertly curated, everything there is truly special. One of the most trendsetting stores in the world. Robin assisted me in footwear and it was an unparalleled experience. A must stop for any serious shopper - can't wait to return next time I'm in town.

Yelp
What a fantastic store! I've been aware of this store for years and always appreciated their ascetic. It's a very chic place but totally approachable. I was beyond excited when I found out that they were able to get the artist Tracey Emin to come to their store in Dallas and sign her new monograph (Tracey Emin: Works 2007-2017). She's one of our favorite artists. Her work is amazing and it seems fitting that Forty Five Ten with their artsy ascetic would host what I believe is the only venue in the U.S. where she'll be signing her book. Pretty amazing. I wanted to personally thank David who works there that helped me get a signed copy of this book. I am truly grateful for this. If you're in the Dallas area, go here. You won't be disappointed. It's the best shopping experience in a city that has a great deal of high-end shopping available.

Christy S.

Yelp
Amazing service in men's fragrance! Truly special, procured items store-wide. 'Love the rooftop restaurant!

Mike S.

Yelp
This used to be a beautiful and inspiring shopping destination. With only two floors and four shelves of beauty it's simply nothing special. I was chased by an associate when I went into the elevator only to discover the upper floors were closed off. I cherished this store and the associates. There really isn't a reason this place should stay open. I wasn't even allowed to take photos to send to my clients. After those interactions I decided to leave and cannot return. I wish I never stepped foot in this place and only held on to the memories I had of this previous inspiring shop. The associates seemed eager and desperate for a sale. It felt like I was the first person they've seen in weeks. I didn't bother looking after I was told not to take photos. I went across the street to traffic to spend what I had intended to spend at this store. Shelly would have been disappointed too. RIP forty five ten. It's time to close the doors.

Yelp
I just had the best fragrance shopping experience of my life - by ***FAR*** - at Forty Five Ten--the selection is spectacular, a few old favorites and other collections I'd never seen before... what REALLY blew my mind though was the beautiful journey Shasa Mitcham took me on (I'm only now realizing that he is one of those experts that people fly into Dallas to meet with...) He asked me about what inspired me; we talked about music and astrology, and he told me the stories behind certain fragrances that were-- borderline tear jerking?!!! I'm a designer myself, and was so blown away by the depth of his knowledge and eloquence I was kind of aghast. It felt like he was writing an epic saga of fragrant soliloquies as we danced around the showroom. I am NOT exaggerating; it felt like I was Clara from the nutcracker. This store is so spectacular from top to bottom, and I commend them on finding such supreme talent. And if you happen to spot a black Givenchy men's Bomber on Floor 3 marked down from $2500 to $650... I missed my chance!!!!! Don't be a fool like me!!!!!!!!!!!! My new favorites: Dent De Lait, Serge Lutens Debases, D.S. & Durga More on Shasa: https://www.dmagazine.com/publications/d-magazine/2017/december/forty-five-ten-fragrance-shasa-mitcham/

Yelp
So, I've heard this place is where a lot of celebrities who come to Dallas shop..but that's not why I went. I'm a huge fragrance fanatic , and this place has a great niche fragrance selection, when you're tired of your traditional Estee Lauder, Calvin Klein, Marc Jacobs, etc. I enjoy those, but I collect fragrances, and I'm always seeking something a bit more unique . Please note, this store sells more than scents. This is also a clothing store with high end designer pieces. This place is pricey , so if you're looking for TJ Maxx type prices, you won't find it here . I can't speak for the clothing , but the scents are impeccable . Scents you can not find anywhere else in Dallas . The service is always good. I like to shop in private without a lot of interruptions, and they let you do that, however they are very helpful when looking for gifts or anything else. The ambience is very posh as you would expect. Lot of posh items calling your name . So, you don't have to be a celeb to go here, so don't feel weird about checking it out .

Yelp
I wasn't allowed to enter the store! Their website is horrible; there's no phone number listed on the site, just an address, their hours of operation and a link to email and request an appointment. I was on the hunt or a specific fragrance which the fragrance house listed them as a retailer. I showed up during regular 'non-appointment' business hours, and was met by the security guard who said I couldn't enter and asked if I wanted to schedule an appointment (this was on a Wednesday, a non-appointment required day). I'm all for exclusivity, but this was a true customer experience FAIL! I did ask the security guard if they had the fragrance, and he said they don't carry the brand. I won't be going back.

Philip H.

Yelp
I like this store but yesterday (4/4) I went and the doors were locked. Security came out and said they were at capacity and asked for my name and number so they could call me when I could come back. I asked what are their capacity limits because it didn't look like there was anyone in the store. He said there was a tea party being hosted at the store. Really??! A tea party??? Not sure why they would close the store to host a tea party. I'm assuming the tea party brought a lot of revenue to be able to close the store off to the public. As expected I didn't receive a call to come back and for that reason I most likely won't give them my business again. Their way of doing business comes across very tacky and not welcoming at all.

Yelp
Wow, wow, wow! As someone from Los Angeles this is by far the best department store I've been in, in years! Emerging designers, nicely curated. Prices are on the high end but worth it. If you are looking for amazing designs that are show stoppers this is the place....and all the staff is very nice. Texas hospitality at its best!

Yelp
I simply adore this shop, from the patio to the indoor lunch room to the fab fab fab shoes! And I totally envy everyone that works here. Start by have a yummy lunch followed by a leisurely walk through the home decor rooms ... The bathrooms are pretty neat too! (Yes, I seem to have a thing for the bathrooms. That's what one does when one is updating their old house!) I usually save the shoe & clothing viewing for last. Like dessert. Yes, their shoes are that good! AND their parties are even better. So, if it's warm outside make sure you lunch on the patio. It faces the east side away from the toasty Texas sun. So smart! This place is sinfully delightful. Between the food & the couture, it's double trouble in a very good way. : )

Yelp
As a fragrance fanatic, this is hands down my favorite place to go to shop. Shasa is one of the most knowledgeable fragrance consultants I have ever met in my life! He really understands the essence of each brand, their history as well the story and notes of every fragrance in house. It's amazing, he is an encyclopedia of knowledge second only to his delightful service and intuition to finding exactly what you're looking for. Forty Five Ten is THE place to go, and Shasa is one of the reasons why.

Yelp
I usually love this store, has all my favorite designers and the staff is usually amazing, I am a fashion blogger and always get notified of the latest events specially with my favorite stores.. Well Tell me why the lady Who usually hostess the part of the restaurant the T Room comes up to me, While I was shopping for my Christmas gifts and says "Excuse me mam?" Are you a designer here? I said no. She said I am sorry this event is only for designers.".... I am sorry but I was just shopping and you promoted this event public and no where did you say designers represented by the store only. So she says "this event is for designers only!" I felt offended and was so turned off by her attitude. While I was trying to make my Christmas wish list I had to walk out of the store because of her rude attitude. Excuse me for trying to shop you store and enjoy my favorite store in Dallas. Totally just went to my unfavorable list of stores.

Yelp
If you love only the very best of everything this is the place for you ! I can't recall being in a more amazing shop Bring your black Amex And be ready to do some serious damage

Yelp
Craving a midday shopping and carb binge? Then you can find your fix at this Dallas staple. Take a second glance, and you'll realize you're lunching next to model Erin Wasson or Jessica Simpson within the delectable T Room. Grab that Alaia, McQueen, Proenza Schouler, Margiela, Stella McCartney, or Balenciaga before a Southern celebrity does. Would be a 5-star rating if some sales associates didn't always act so uptight and snooty, but this has only occurred on rare occasions. I'll let them have their bad, off days. Prices run on the steeper side, but you're getting some quality designer pieces that will have you standing out of the crowd. Also, get on their mailing and events list for some super fun fetes they throw from time to time.

Yelp
This store is fantastic if your pockets are deep. You'll find lots of unique designer fashions, accessories and decorative items for the home. There is also a little cafe in the back that has some excellent light fare and espresso. The men's section is comparatively small, but they tend to carry a lot of styles more suited to slimmer builds, urban hipsters, and label obsessives. 35K Millionaires would love to shop here if they could afford it, but this place has Stanley-Korshak-prices that will set you back with some jaw-dropping price tags. Ever pay $100+ for a tshirt? Well you definitely CAN do that here easily. You know, I personally don't have a lot of respect for people that gouge you with prices, but I can see how some people like my Mom would walk in here and storm right back out. However, I don't consider this store to be one that gouges you though their prices on some items are admittedly high. But it will help if you approach this store like you would a museum. Indeed, many of the items here have a deep artistic soul. And, for the price you pay, you actually get extraordinary value. If you buy anything here, chances are that it's extremely rare; that's the nature of what's here. It is not mass-produced garbage. At one point in time, they had the most beautiful solid, carved jade dinnerware I've ever seen. I wish I could have afforded it. Something I did buy here awhile back were some Werkstatt-Muenchen pieces. http://www.werkstatt-muenchen.com/ One was an awesome sterling silver ring, and the other was a special order piece wraparound sterling silver and leather bracelet. Both items are stunning and get lots of compliments **pics are attached**. Forty Five Ten is the only place I know of that can order this type of stuff for you. I recommend this store to people with deep pockets looking for the best of the best, or those who just appreciate good quality and artistic soul. There is beautiful stuff here, but you may find yourself with a case of sticker-shock if you've never been here before. Conspicuous consumption may be out of vogue, but at least Forty Five Ten has parking in the back ;-)

Yelp
What a fascinating store. I found several things I would love to own. Everyone was very friendly and courteous. I will visit again.

Yelp
This is a ultra high fashion store. They have the cool stuff no one else has! You should also save yourself a trip if you're a guy and weigh more than 185 lbs or wear a 46 sized suit or larger. If you're in the area and need to buy a very nice gift that you won't find anywhere else...THIS is the place to shop.

C J.

Yelp
At first I really like this boutique and they do have really good price for high end brand collections. However, they now begin to just sell stuffs and even give extra discount for resellers. If you are just a random customer like me, you will never found brands like Gucci, Balenciaga with good discount here any more. I saw reseller kept posting stuffs from this store with 75% off but when I was in the store I didn't found any of them and even I found it, the price was only 60% off. What the heck? Is this store only for resellers? I really don't understand. We spent time and money there also, why couldn't we got the same good price? Apparently photos I saw online were taken by sales in the store. Sales sent picture of inventory to reseller and reseller post them online. Also the sales allow reseller to go into inventory to take pics and select what she wanted and customers like me who also spent thousands dollars don't have such privileges. Don't say I am faking it, I got all pictures and evidence.

Danny Z.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing high luxury looks. GORGEOUS store layout, if you're looking for affordability this isnt the place, it will break the bank as these are brand new in season pieces.
google avatar

Ann C.

Yelp
Unique, high-end, chic, trendy clothing. Love it. minus a star for the pushy sales staff

Millie M.

Yelp
You might have a good experience in store but ordering from their website is a waste of time. I ordered from their website, got an email next day asking me whether I need gift wrap. I then emailed back and called back but haven't got any response for days. The I called again and the sales person who didn't even know what item I ordered insisted that the item was an inventory error. I just don't understand if the item was not in stock in the first place why would you contact me about the gift wrap and why would you charge my card (posted charge, not just pending)? Most stores won't charge until item is shipped. Still waiting for my refund.

I. A.

Yelp
Wow all I can say is I am in awe of the new Forty Five Ten! I had been to the Forty Five Ten and their restaurant the T-Room for a couple years now, but the one on Main Street far surpasses what I had ever foreseen. I took my mom here for an early birthday lunch this past Saturday, and thanks to Murphy's Law I was not only running 35 minutes behind our reservation at Mirador, but I mistakenly followed my gps and drove to the front of the building. Not my finest move. Their parking is valet in the back of the building and about 10 minutes away (with traffic on a Saturday afternoon when you screw up). I ended up being 45 minutes late and they happened to have a private event someone had rented out for their birthday too. I had called a couple of times and spoke to the lady at the restaurant who said it was okay if I was a little late, unfortunately I was even later than I expected with the parking. Initially I was told by Casey that since we came SO late the kitchen had closed and they couldn't serve us. I was very dejected and I think he could tell as I not only wanted to celebrate her birthday there, but I had also wanted to come to FFT ever since they opened a few months ago. We stood there for maybe three or four more minutes and Casey came back and walks us to a table. At first I was a bit perplexed since he said we couldn't stay, but I asked and he said since there were already so a couple of tables there that they'd have to wait on them anyway so we could stay! We were so excited! Fast forward to the meal, it was exquisite and the dessert with lemon (I don't remember the name of it) was phenomenal. They even put a candle on it! They were so sweet they even gave us two complimentary glasses of dessert wine (just as perfect as the rest of the meal) and a complimentary dessert. He apologized repeatedly for what had initially happened although it wasn't their fault and even comped $50 on the bill! I seriously could not have asked for a better birthday for her. You even have panoramic views of Downtown at Mirador and the store is like a modern art museum filled with designer wares galore! All in all, I would definitely say GO HERE!

Yelp
Last Friday, seven friends had lunch at the "Mirador" at "Forty Five Ten". The "Whipped Ricotta Dip with Grilled Toast" was a big hit with everyone. The "Farro Salad" was to perfection! The "Mirador Cookie Plate" with "Coffee" was a great ending to a memorable experience! Excellent service and shopping in the upscale boutique made for a fun experience!

Yelp
I went in here for the first time this week. I had just worked out at Bodybar Studios and was strolling around checking out some stores and doing some shopping. Not a single employee greeted me or asked if I needed any help the entire time I was in the store. And it wasn't because all the employees were busy. 3 different employees had the opportunity to speak to me as I walked right past them while they were doing nothing. One older woman, a little overweight, looked me up and down and gave me snooty look. Maybe it's because I was in my workout clothes, I don't know. Don't care either. Every other store in the area had super friendly employees. I'd never step foot in this store again. Get over yourselves.

Yelp
Fell in LOVE! I have always heard of the magical "Forty Five Ten" but it has taken me 2 years of living in Dallas to finally make it in the door. Upon entering I was greeted by smiling faces and couture, my favorite combination. They were getting ready for a Balenciaga showing so the mannequins were showcasing some truly beautiful pieces. Through the store, racks of designer garments had my head spinning. You can find anything from the exquisite collection of Alexander Mcqueen (shoes, clothing, handbags), the comfortably versatile pieces of Rick Owens, or the tres chic collection of Moschino. I feel like I need to go several times just to absorb the array of designer eminence. The prices are high, but not overpriced. That's just the cost of couture. I left truly satisfied with all of my purchases and sat in my closet admiring my treasures until my boyfriend said it's time for dinner...please stop drooling. (some boys just don't understand) There was one item that I wanted so bad but they didn't have my size. Luckily Melissa (or as I like to call her now: my Shoe Saviour) tracked down a pair for me and called me asap! Looks like now I will be making my way over there soon :) If you are searching for unique pieces and willing to splurge, this store is the place!

Yelp
Truly great shopping. One of the great stores in the USA. Small selection of stylish men's & women's clothing, jewelry, gifts, books. It's an amazing collection of stuff, so beautiful and a great staff. I go everytime I'm in Dallas!

Yelp
If you love super chic//unique items, this is the place to go. Amazing accessories---unbelievable dresses, everything is breathtaking. The staff is beyond fabulous and they throw amaze parties. This is the first stop I make when looking for something très très chic.

Yelp
No online sales and challenging to actually buy something unless you are in store. Very frustrating when they constantly send out marketing emails highlighting pieces with pricing and yet difficult to actually purchase. Only option is to call store or send email. Store is only open till 6pm and downtown so I decided to try emailing for an item I wanted that I saw in their email. Received generic email on 1/5/18 confirming my request saying someone would be in touch. Never heard from anyone. Didn't have time to call store during open hours so figured I'd let it go. Received another email again on 1/13/18 again showcasing item I wanted and this time I decided to call store. Ally answered and proceeded to put me on hold for 10 minutes. She acknowledged she was distracted by another call that came in and then told me they had the item I wanted yesterday but couldn't find it today. I told her about my email request from the week prior and she said, "wow rude that no one contacted you" I explained I just received the email so asked if she was sure they didn't have item and asked if she could check ALL stores as I was willing to have it shipped to me. She said, "yeah that's our marketing dept. they don't check stock before sending those emails." I don't expect to shop this way at any price point but certainly not for designer pieces. Ally's lack of professionalism and service also severely disappointed. I have bought shoes in store from Brian and had a much better experience but again there are too many other places to shop vs deal with this type of experience. I can order from small boutiques, Neimans and even Barneys from the comfort of my home in Dallas with no problem. Hope I can remove myself from their email distribution so I don't get continually frustrated!!

Yelp
I'm shocked! As a new mom for a 6 weeks old baby, it's hard to get out of the house. But I when I heard that Dita Von Tease will be coming to sign her book at Forty Five, I found a way to get out of the house. Took me a few hours but I managed. I pumped, packed the diaper bag and was out and about...without my wallet....baby brain...whatever...when I arrived to #fortyfiveten they didn't let me stand in line because I didn't get the book there and I had to buy something to get it signed...they decided to bring the actual manager and when I told her I'm a regular they asked for my name to see if they can find my credit card...I was so disgusted and embarrassed! When I was about to tell them my name i realised, this is just not a way to treat people...I left in tears...I brought so many people to this boutique and dined there a million times...it was one of the only places I liked in Dallas along with Blesses Grange Hall...so I'm really just very sad! So nouveau riche and disgusting

rebecca r.

Yelp
Best shopping in Dallas. I attended a private event last week that was uber chic and fun. This place knows how to host! By keeping the high end events invitation only seems to be the only way to keep out the typical Dallas riff-raff that crashes places like this, and then is shocked to be asked to leave. Keep up the great work. I am still amazed by your attention to detail!

Yanina V.

Yelp
Excellent customer service without being pushy. The SA helped me but let me browse and checked in on me several times without hovering. One of the best locations for niche perfumes in Dallas.
