"Forty Five is a charming cafe which retails quality LPs as well as a selection of beverages. Rustic furniture, comfy sofas and a turntable make Forty Five a quality location for a quiet drink while watching the city life hum by.
It hosts regular evening events, including music quizes and intimate live shows. This small cafe is gaining momentum as one of York's new generation of remarkable music venues. Wall space is dedicated to a gallery for contemporary artists to display and sell their work.
While it's fair to say that the menu is limited, the music-named toasties served are top notch comfort food, using ingredients unlikely to be in your fridge. Children are welcome during the day, and high chairs are available for the littlest ones. Forty Five is already gaining cult status in York, therefore standard band merch such as tshirts and tote bags are available to purchase.
Stop by for a moment to break up your commute, or make an evening of it to enjoy the chilled vibe and new music." - Abell Design
Amazing live venue and record store just on the other side of the historic Micklegate.
Great atmosphere and staff, the owners should be proud of how well their hard work has paid off.

A cute and cosy morning at the Fortyfive Vinyl Cafe, York on the 24th January 2025. As the cafe was only across the road from the hotel my partner and I stayed at.
I loved the country independent rock vibe and I liked how they sold stuff associated with music , my boyfriend plays guitar independently and is very passionate about it so I'm glad this cafe interested him. I would definitely recommend this cafe ❤️

I don’t know where to start I come to this cafe most Thursday mornings before I go to my counselling sessions and it’s such a great friendly place for someone who suffers with mental health) ptsd I find it super difficult to go to places on my own but they truly have made me so comfortable and relaxed to go in I go get my delicious hot chocolate and sit on the elvis table and relax and last week the lovely owner even came over and had a little chat with me which was super nice and lovely I’m constantly telling others about this beautiful cafe and the amazing records they have that you can but I bought a few now and they haven’t disappointed me also I can’t write a review without mentioned the amazing decor of artist pictures and the tables my favourite is the guitars on the wall and the super cool jukebox In the corner never seen one before and they are definitely interesting to look at thank you for always making me feel welcome ☺️

We came to see When Rivers Meet. Fantastic venue. As a cafe/music shop, it is quite spacious. As a music venue, it is intimate. Which, for me, was a highlight. We liked it so much, we went back for a quick beer a couple of weeks later, on our way to see Suzi Q. Where we stood talking to the owner about our collective love of music!

Fantastic place to visit, loved the interesting music related decor and whole atmosphere of the cafe.
We attended a music bingo night and had a fun time. The owners were great hosts and had put on a fab event.
There is a good selection of drinks available, alcoholic and non-alcoholic. I would also highly recommend the grilled cheese sandwiches. We had the all-day breakfast and smokestack lighting sandwiches, and they were delicious.

Didn’t eat food. We came for a gig (Sinead Burgess 8/11/24) Fantastic venue. We felt up close and personal with the amazing artist on stage. You can tell the owners are very passionate about this place. Would definitely come here again to see a band.

A unique cafe/brunch place with plenty of charm and some great toasties.
The atmosphere here is unique! Nothing quite like it, lots of memorabilia and art around the walls. Service is friendly.
Food is great. Really great toasties - perfect for a brunch or late lunch to keep you going.
