This is a lovely traditionally Norwegian, historical wooden hotel dating back to the 1800s, offering an authentic Norwegian village experience. Great location in the beautiful Lom village surrounded by mountains close to Jotunheimen, Breheimen and Reinheimen national parks. The room was nice and neat. The reception staff were friendly. Both breakfast and dinner at the restaurant were nice. Food was delicious, served with great mountain views and the waiter boy was nice. But the dessert chocolate cake slice was too small, especially for the hefty price of 230 kronor and they should double the size of the slice. ||Our room category in the main building offers rooms with both mountain view and yard view, but we were thrown into the most remote corner of the hotel with a yard view, which we didn’t enjoy. Perhaps the local staff doesn’t think that the mountains are anything special, since they look at them everyday, but for foreign tourists, they are special. If I were a receptionist, I would give all the guests a mountain view, when the hotel is half-empty like it was now. Or ask the guests whether they prefer mountain or yard view, because I have to admit that there is a certain charm to the grass-roofed cottages on the yard side and some guests may prefer that. Although we didn't see much of the cottages either from our remote corner room. Their website or booking.com profile doesn't even mention or show photographically that they offer such great mountain views from their hotel, but they do, so this came as a surprise for us when we arrived and that's why we didn't even know to ask for a mountain view room.

Great room with views of the stave church. Lots of space in the room with a couch and chair seating area. Shower is the type that gets the whole bathroom floor wet but it works. Good location easy, walk into town. Nice breakfast buffet but no scrambled eggs. Parking is free and plentiful.

We stayed in a room in the main lodge. The bathroom was newly remodeled. Rooms are great even though they are in an ancient building. Breakfast was very good with lots of choices. Our only complaint is that our room did not have curtains that block out the light and with sunset at 11 and sunrise at 3:30 there in’s not much dark time.

First time at Fossheim - definitely not the last. Excellent dining - super nice & very serviceminded staff. Relaxed atmosphere. Our room in the main building had great view to the mountains. ||Will visit again at my next adventure in Jotunheimen

Last summer I had a great but interesting stay involving insight in the life of a local waitress when my friend and I stayed for two nights during our journey from Oslo to Bergen. The food was great and everything was fine but... It is an old charming hotel and therefore there was some cross noise from the neighbor room. Late night I went down to the reception in order to change room because of noise from neighbors. There was no one in the reception but I heard noise in the restaurant/kitchen and someone moaning “DU ER SÅÅÅ DIGGG!”. It sounds like a screamer had a really tasty desert. I headed for the kitchen and opened the door. I was shocked when I saw a waitress with long dark hair undressed doing really intime things with the cook on the kitchen table where the food is prepared. Next morning I talked to a receptionist about what i saw in the kitchen. She said Ingrid’s husband know what is going on and even film her meetings. She said fotunately there was only one cook involved this time. All types of room has been used for this types of meetings but this was a new and interesting choice of arena she said The next day the same waitress eat an romantic dinner in the restaurant with her husband, prepared by the same cook. This was to much for me. I lost my appetite and had to leave the restaurant. Late night the same day when I visited Lom Bygdemuseum I suddenly heard the same moaning. It was the same waitress enjoying somebody that definitely not her husband outside one of the old museum houses. Same moaning, different man. Charming lifestyle and interesting social dynamics.

This hotel is authentic Norway and quite a gem. There are wonderful small log cabins in addition to the more traditional hotel rooms. This is an historic property visited by the Norwegian Royal family and it has a wonderful restaurant. The breakfast is good and the dinner is outstanding. Many of the summer wait staff are local or from other parts of Scandinavia. They are energetic and fun. If you want to visit real Norway, try this hotel run by the same family for 5 generations.

This family run hotel is a bit of authentic Norway. The buildings are historic and the restaurant has a long history as well. There are many places to stay in this area now but this is where it all got started. There are cabins to rent as well and they are designed and outfitted by a local carpenter. The staff is wonderful and includes lots of locals in the summer who are on break from university. I love real experiences, not just a standard hotel where you could be anywhere. Don’t worry, the WiFi service is good as well!

Do yourself a favor and eat here!! Scallops were the best I've ever had though it could do without the sauce which was a bit salty. But the scallops itself, super fresh and delicious tasting. The falafel with veggies were extremely delicious. Veggies cooked to perfection. Didn't think I would like eating an entire turnip/onion like I did. And the perfectly baked and tasting potatoes! Oh man! To top it off, hands down THE BEST creme brulee in my life. And I'm not even a fan of the ones back home in the US. But Norwegians with their fresh ingredients and how they do food and dessert, make me appreciate and love other food I typically don't like back home or have a hard time finding decent ones. Usually creme brulee tastes too milky or creamy, or sweet for me. This one--none of that. Just absolute perfect! Paired with the raspberry sorbet and the fresh berries from their garden--woo wee! Would order another if I weren't full. Thank you for a lovely experience. Friendly service, amazing food, and gorgeous views. Eat here!
