20 Best Things to Do on Oahu, According to Locals

"Foster Garden is Honolulu’s oldest botanical garden — and Choy describes it as a “tranquil oasis” in the middle of the city. “It showcases an incredible array of tropical plants, offering visitors a chance to immerse themselves in nature, appreciate biodiversity, and learn about conservation efforts while enjoying a peaceful retreat from the city's hustle and bustle,” she says. Along with a map, visitors will receive a self-guided tour upon entry." - Travel + Leisure Editors

Years ago I cut through a botanical garden and was amazed at the flowers and plants. Not boring at all! Now I seek them out. Today I looked to see how far I could get on a biki bike and the last station is near Foster botanical garden in Honolulu. Best $5 admission I spent this trip. It’s hard to get it from the photos but the trees - oh the trees!! - absolutely incredible. I had no idea there were so many type of palm trees. The Baobab, cannonball, and candle trees…the pitcher plant and butterflies. Great for families. I spent 2 hours here taking my time. A must see! And as a Christian I have to say that this absolutely brought me closer to God in wonder.

For only $5 for an entry it is a great deal and a great time! Beautiful plants and trees and the LARGEST tree trunk I have ever seen from the baobab tree a great time. Also has the tallest palm tree in Hawaii in the center of it lots of birds and small creatures as well!

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Foster Botanical Garden in Honolulu, and it was an unforgettable experience! This hidden gem is a must-see for anyone who loves nature and tranquility. **Stunning Variety of Plants** The garden boasts an impressive collection of tropical plants, many of which are rare and exotic. Walking through the winding paths, I was captivated by the vibrant colors and diverse foliage. The collection of palms, orchids, and flowering trees was particularly stunning. **Peaceful Atmosphere** The serene ambiance of the garden made it the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. The gentle sounds of birds and the rustling of leaves created a calming backdrop as I explored. There are plenty of benches and quiet spots to sit and soak in the beauty around you. **Informative Signage** Throughout the garden, informative signs provide details about the various plant species and their origins. This educational aspect added depth to my visit, allowing me to appreciate the botanical diversity even more. **Perfect for All** Whether you’re a plant enthusiast, a casual visitor, or looking for a peaceful place to relax, Foster Botanical Garden has something for everyone. I highly recommend taking a leisurely stroll through the garden, bringing a camera to capture the beauty, and perhaps even packing a picnic to enjoy on the lush grounds. Overall, my visit to Foster Botanical Garden was a highlight of my trip to Hawaii. It's a beautiful sanctuary that showcases the incredible biodiversity of the islands. I can’t wait to return on my next visit!

It’s got the oldest trees on the island. There’s a small greenhouse with some cool orchids, an outdoor butterfly area with plenty of milkweed, some mammoth baobab trees. It costs 5 bucks for visitors. It’s about a 10 minute walk from Chinatown. It felt more like a park.

Beautiful, peaceful, and the coolest part is the guides and maps you get when you pay to enter! Very low fee as well. The conservatory was awesome! I honestly can't say enough cool things about this place. I'm so glad we went! I could have easily napped there

Decided to check out Foster Botanical Garden on a weekday afternoon. Randomly, there was a wedding taking place while we were there. $5.00 USD/person entry (no senior discount). Didn’t think it was worth the admission; the outdoor butterfly garden was practically non-existent while the conservatory was the tiniest greenhouse I’ve ever stepped in. Go to the free four other botanical gardens.
