20 Best Things to Do on Oahu, According to Locals

"Foster Garden is Honolulu’s oldest botanical garden — and Choy describes it as a “tranquil oasis” in the middle of the city. “It showcases an incredible array of tropical plants, offering visitors a chance to immerse themselves in nature, appreciate biodiversity, and learn about conservation efforts while enjoying a peaceful retreat from the city's hustle and bustle,” she says. Along with a map, visitors will receive a self-guided tour upon entry." - Travel + Leisure Editors

This place has so much potential. I was tempted to withhold one star because there is a lot more the space could be in terms of installations, events, etc. They are keeping up a storied botanical garden in the heart of Honolulu. Impressive trees, hedges, plants, things you won’t see unless they have been nurtured for a very long time, which they have. $3 Kama Aina $5 visitors would recommend for anyone. You will see birds of Hawaii, lizards of Hawaii, monarch butterflies—it’s more than plants, it’s an education on the ecosystem.

Out of the 5 botanical gardens, this one was closest to our hotel in Waikiki. It is on the smaller side, but still packed with many beautiful plants and trees. It was $5 per person which was reasonable. Worth seeing at least once.

I'm so glad we managed to get to visit this place. The trees! They have so many special trees in this botanical garden, and it was well worth the visit. It was far from crowded on a weekday, and my mom and I lingered here for quite awhile, reading the info on every plant and tree, and relaxing, taking it all in. We learned a lot. I like that they gave us a sheet for birdwatching , as there are many different birds frequenting the garden. We also saw a few people nestled in various corners of the garden, enjoying their alone time, as it's the perfect place to do that. It's was a little bit of a walk back to a bus stop from here, but nothing bad at all. Well worth the visit, and I'd go back again!

One of the five gardens operated by the city of Honolulu. The parking is plentiful and free, and the admission is $3 for residents and $5 for non-residents. A nice and breezy garden to walk around and learn about tropical plants and trees. It’s not really large, but it has interesting trees, especially a wide range of palms.

Great memories of when I came here often to study/nap as a student when it was free. With the admission fee, that's probably not happening much anymore. Amazing variety of international species, clean restrooms & an oasis in the middle of the city's din.

gorgeous botanical garden with very cool trees and plants--it was my first time seeing a sausage tree, cannonball tree, or baobab! there are also orchids in a conservatory that are lovely, and a corpse plant that was not "corpsing" while i visited. the grounds are clean and well kept. a very serene little garden in the middle of the city. i spent a good two hours there hanging out on a few of the many park benches scattered throughout the grounds. plenty of shade.
