The Florida Keys Is an Unexpectedly Festive Destination During the Holidays—Here's How to Plan a Visit

"If you end up craving snow on your island getaway, the Great Lawn hosts Islamorada’s Holiday Fest with a 30-ton “Snow Mountain” for sledding, snowman-making, and snowball fights in over 70-degree heat, all set beneath a 35-foot-high Christmas tree that amplifies the holiday mood." - Evie Carrick Evie Carrick Evie Carrick is a writer and editor who’s lived in five countries and visited well over 50. We enjoyed visiting Founders Park. This is a very large complex with exercise facilities, a large swimming pool, soccer fields, tennis courts a baseball field and lots more. There is also a marina with lots of boats docks. The park is very well kept and landscaped. They also feature separate large and small dog parks.

Bring picnic table clothes or covers, bug spray, towels. Beach chairs..spf,umbrellas and water shoes.tons of rocks and just soft sand. No big waves just calm waters. Tons of picnic table, some in Shadded areas Great for families .great place to relax! Bathroom is not the best . Showers are outside on the sand area

Nice park, beach, playground and outdoor sports for families. But beware the hords of mosquitoes during sunset - simple sprays will not bother them.

Very well organized, with lots of activities if you want to do sports and stuff, like beach volleyball, etc. Even has bbq pits. The beach water is very shallow, so the water was hot. Good place considering here there was sand and almost no other spot on key largo has sand.

Exceptionally well landscaped 45 acre city park in Islamorada Florida. It has a small beach, Olympic size, pool, Pickleball courts playground, picnic area, marina, and many other recreational facilities. The park puts on festivals events, celebrations and youth activities. We love the miles of walking trails. There is an entry fee, but it is well worth it. Running a large park like this is not cheap and the small price you pay for entry will help maintain its cleanliness and safety. If you are camping at Sun outdoors, the entry is free.

I had a wonderful experience at Founders Park Beach in Islamorada today. Parking was free in celebration of Thanksgiving, but even on regular days, the fees are very reasonable—$8 for adults and $5 for those under 18. The park itself is incredibly clean and well-maintained, offering a comfortable and inviting atmosphere for everyone. There are plenty of picnic areas that make it easy to enjoy a meal with family or friends while taking in the beautiful surroundings. For families, the playgrounds are a big hit with the kids, and for those looking to stay active, the beach volleyball court is a fantastic addition. It’s the perfect spot for a fun day outdoors, whether you want to relax or stay active. Founders Park Beach truly has something for everyone, and I’d highly recommend it to anyone visiting Islamorada!

Founders Park is an Islamorada GEM! 5 Stars to the facility the park, and the staff and team that run the facility! They host events daily from soccer, lacross, baseball, and have visitors going through nature trails, walking and exercising, to swimming at the beach. They have a pavilion that can be rented, and are the host location for the world famous Nautical Market Feb 21-22, 2026. This weekend of the nautical market does cause a traffic slowdown and visitors should plan accordingly. I’ve attached videos and pictures of the event and other things that take place at Founders park. The $8 entrance fee is truly a deal for visitors and they should enjoy the marina, the dog park, the sandy beach and all the park has to offer. Locals show their licensee for access. 5 stars and a big thank you to founders park!
