Shelby was friendly & fast! Had a nice time here. Burgers were good—only reason for the four stars for food was that the Blackened Blue burger lacked Cajun seasoning and was absent of blue cheese—so neither blackened nor blue, but we didn’t mention it, as the burger was good anyways. Looking forward to coming here again!

This is such a great divey neighborhood spot. It’s a Buffalo staple. You’ll find regulars there having a bite and a couple drinks before heading out their nightly activities…all of the staff are super friendly and kind. It’s laid back and chill. Good isn’t amazing, but it’s also not too pricey. You get free popcorn. Fun place for a chill night of drinking and hanging out

If your friends or family recommend you to visit Duffs or Anchor Bar in Buffalo please make sure you visit Michael at Founding Fathers. It deserves to be in the top spots to visit in Buffalo. This is one of the best pub experiences in the entire US I have been. Michael is so knowledgeable in trivia and just a great character. The pub is filled with memorabilia of US presidents thru out the bar. This would be a place Anthony Bourdain would be proud to visit...Yeah I went their..

Had a late afternoon to kill, went in for a burger. Decor is as others described, but the TVs were a bit noisy with MTV blaring a bunch of 90s to 00s alt rock, pop and lots of hip-hop + r&b. It was incongruous, a little grating, and seemed weirdly at odds with the clientele. Clarissa (IIRC) was delightful, and helped me pick the right beer for my mood (Sam Smith's Nut Brown Ale). Was profoundly disappointed to learn they had no kind of fries or hashbrowns available at all, thanks to the postage stamp-sized kitchen having only a grill. The chips would have to do, but at least the Independence burger was excellent. If all you're out for is atmosphere and a beer, this is a quaint, appealing spot, and if you get peckish, the food is quite tasty. (Though a hot plate to make some hash browns or scrambled eggs would add another star here. )

If cluster F was a bar, this would be it. Home game for buffalo and 1 staff member on. Even if someone called off, she could have said something when we walked in and sat down. 20 minutes we waited and another table sat after us and got beers. Sad, as we thought this place was cool. The decor was a mess but wicked cool. I guess it’s off to Anchor bar instead.

This place is awesome. I randomly came in while my girlfriend was getting a tattoo, ended up being the only customer for a while, and just hungout with the staff and watched football. Bartender was super nice. I will be coming back anytime I’m in Buffalo again.

This was such a cool Pub! So many things to look at and a wonderful staff. Very friendly. The best pub we went to on our trip to Buffalo.

*-Current menu on Google maps is old, please update. Esp prices!-* Came in for a quick lunch stop with my dad today and figured we'd check this bar out as it has such high reviews. Most of what I've heard about this bar is that it's "The oldest bar in Buffalo" which may or may not be true as far as structure housing a bar goes but the bar tender filled us in that the doors to the bar opened in the mid 1980's, regardless the interior suits it's name as it's decorated with memorabilia from our nation's presidents and wars. There's probably seating for close to 50 people including the bar and a variety of TV's broadcasting the latest sports updates. The menu was on the smaller side but the food didn't disappoint. I ordered the "Philly cheese steak" sandwich and a cup of broccoli and cheese soup. The sandwich was loaded with huge tender cut pieces of actual steak with fresh sweet peppers (and by choice no onion, add mushrooms) the mushrooms was a bad choice as they are canned and not fresh... the roll could have used a decent toast to keep the roll crisp and together but otherwise it's be a 5/5 star review. Stop in for some grub or a drink with friends and you won't be disappointed!

Founding Fathers is filled with US History memorabilia, and its owner/bartender is super personable and knowledgeable on all things historical. I would classify it as a dive bar, good ambiance and not too loud, easy to talk to others while there. The food is like sophisticated bar food. Inventive sandwiches and sides. I believe they still do trivia night, very cool. Mike the bartender keeps everyone entertained with trivia on pop culture, history, and his witty conversation. Highly recommended!

A must visit for anyone who wants to feel real Buffalo, the Founding Fathers is a must. It's a classic original dive bar in Historic Allentown. Order beers from the waitress that will show you to a table. Order burgers, nothing else. That's all you need. Beer and greasy burgers!

We stopped in on a quiet Sunday afternoon. Karissa made me a good Cosmo and poured hubby a good drink. The location is accessible but I didn't not see any accessible Parking nearby. The bathrooms are gender-specific and tiny - no room for a wheelchair in the ladies room stall at all. The menu was interesting and they had lots of specials. Desserts are not made in house. We could see the cook preparing food from our seats at the bar and he was generous with the salt. Our sandwiches were great but we were both super thirsty afterwards. We have two sons in school in the area and we would definitely stop back!

Cool dive bar to drink a Labatts beer cool atmosphere definitely a local bar. Great conversation people in Buffalo are always friendly.

Not going to lie.. Deff a gem of a place.. owner Mike behind the bar hit us (bar of about 20ppl) with random trivia.. awesome... easy and hard questions.. nice to mingle with locals in the bar who are used to it... great personalities all around... maybe we had a outside the dive bar nite but would deff recommend a stop by if your a history buff or just love our country

The memorabilia and decorations make this place a lot of fun to see, but as a dining option it wasn't memorable for me. I came in while on vacation, on a Sunday afternoon at about 4:45. There were lots of people at the bar but none in the dining area. I expected a host or someone to greet me but that didn't happen. Finally, after sitting at a table for some time, I got up and approached the bar. I was told the cook wasn't in yet and that he may arrive at 5 or 5:30. I basically hadn't eaten all day, and had just walked from Sahlen Field, so this was not music to my ears. I sat down and waited because I didn't see a viable option that appealed to me. Eventually the bartender came over and said they were ready for food orders. I went with the tuna melt, which was a special for $12.75. It was okay. It definitely should have been warmer, and though the chips were not bad I'm not a fan of them and would have appreciated a different side option. The same bartender was essentially my server. I remained the only one in the dining area, which I thought strange. He made an adjustment to my bill and I appreciated that, having not even asked for it. The other discouragement though was that the two employees I saw there frequently stepped outside for cigarette breaks, and smoked right by the front door. I don't know about the rules in Buffalo, but in all the areas of California I've been to you have to be at least 20 feet away from the entrance to a restaurant when smoking. It's too bad the food quality and overall experience didn't match the fabulous surroundings inside the restaurant, then it would have been a real winner!

Really good bar service and the French Onion Soup was solid. I really enjoyed the Fried Bologna Sandwich as well. Bartender was basically an encyclopedia for Presidential history and great conversation starter. Would definitely drop in here for a beer and food!

The bartenders and cooks have gotten really surly and inattentive lately. After beng a regular customer for 35 years, that is really sad. That said the food is still really good if you can handle the now dreadful atmosphere. I was there a few nights ago, late at night and being really tired, I started to nod off a few times while drinking my beer. That didn't sit well with the bartender who took my remaining beer and poured it out, When I complained about that and refused to pay for my undrunk beer, I was thrown out of the bar and forbidden from ever coming back again. Their loss as I have spent thousands of dollars ithere n the many times I have been there,

Old school bar with a great classic atmosphere. Good beer choices. Attentive service but not overly friendly. We shared a potstickers appetizer (good) and split a cheesesteak (meh). Cheesesteak was steak tips, not sliced beef. A little dry. Love the Presidential theme.

I came here a few times in my college days. The place is small, grimy and salty. There is ton of American history to be found here. This was overall my favorite bar in Buffalo. I wish I was able to come more in those days.

This is all about the atmosphere, the camaraderie and the service. One of the friendliest places to go, the wait staff and owner strike up conversations with everyone, the food is good and you will hardly notice that the menu is limited. I love this place. Brooke made certain our glasses remained full and we had what we needed to enjoy their pastrami sandwiches which are actually quite good.

Were I differently inclined metaphysically, I would say that Founding Fathers is a dive bar more or less as God intended: it's old and cheap and woody and has free popcorn and something like a buffet during happy hour and every bit of cool historical memorabilia that you wouldn't ever have expected. Like, history buff dive bars? That is a thing? But it has other neighborhood bar standards as well: a crusty old salt behind the bar who is so gruff and endearing that you'd think somebody wrote him and a garrulous bunch of locals eager to strike up a conversation over a vodka or beer. Parking is on the street and it's a bit drafty by the door, which is to say that it is a bar in Downtown Buffalo. When they return from exile in the Pandemic Wastes, I will be there to help spend them back onto their feet.

One of the best bars you'll ever go to. Cheap drinks ($6 pints, $6.50 bourbon on the rocks), the sandwiches are big and worth the $11, the ambience is great and the bartender, Michael, will wow you with his stories.

Founding Fathers is great. Low key, awesome environment boosted by an eclectic collection of presidential memorabilia. Trivia nights are unbeatable and during a quieter time the owner will even fire some US history trivia from behind the bar.

This old dive bar is really cool. I came here last night with a friend before the John Craigie concert, which was at Babeville. We parked in the church lot, where it didn't say reserved, and walked up the 2.5 blocks to get to the Founding Fathers Pub. Otherwise, you have to park on the street, I believe. The place is old and has a ton of cool presidential and historical information posted. The lighting was perfect. (We had sat at the bar. The waitress dimmed the lights shortly before my friend and I left.) We we're greeted right away. I had a Guinness and my friend had a whiskey and Coke. I was told that they don't have a deep fryer, which was unfortunate, because I couldn't get fries with my meal. I had the grilled chicken & cheddar pita. It came with chips, a dill pickle, and a small pepper. I liked it a lot. My friend had the Hail to the Chief which was a grilled chicken sandwich. We had another round of drinks before we left. I came here in early December with two different friends before the Shakey Graves concert (at Babeville.) At that time, I had the tortellini pesto, which was good. There was a large table near us that night. They had 12 people there and the waitress didn't seem overwhelmed. She did a great job with all of her tables. There's a popcorn machine here and a few areas to hang your coats up near the bar. I enjoyed the atmosphere here and will be back here if I have anything going on downtown afterwards.

don't know about the food but this is a real fun dive bar. few decent sized tvs in good locations. fun crowd. haven't tried the food.

History, trivia, nacho bar and more, what could be better? Even if you're not here for their famed trivia night, the bartender will still throw trivia questions at you. Especially if he knows you're from Pittsburgh. I've said this about other bars in Buffalo, but I would straight up be a regular if I lived here. Prices are really reasonable and the free nacho bar, how can that be beat? It can't, I tell you. I love the decor! It's full of history and well done. The vibe here is so chill and relaxing. The service is out of this world great. I honestly can't wait to get back here.

We had an awesome time at the Founding Fathers Pub. This is the second oldest bar in Buffalo. The owner, Mike, is a former high school history teacher and a wealth of knowledge. He asks trivia questions as you drink and it is so much fun. You actually leave the bar being more intelligent. I drank a few Manhattan and my hubby was on a Tito's vodka soda with lime kick that evening. As your drink you can read all the info on the walls and check out all the flags and presidential items that the owner has collected over the years on school and personal trips. On the right side of the the bar you will find a popcorn machine that has baskets on top that you may fill with as little or as much popcorn as you wish. It is a nice treat as you drink and try to answer trivia questions. They have official trivia here on Tuesday nights, but if you are lucky enough to be there a night Mike is bartending then you might be in for a personal trivia night like we enjoyed.

you guys have to meet Ricky! the most kind, and funny cook/bartender we have ever met. We left for a bar crawl and promised we would come back later and it did not disappoint! We absolutely love the great service and friendly atmosphere here.

A really cool unique bar! If you love history or feeling extra patriotic, this is the place for you. The walls are covered in presidential photos, newspaper clippings, and memorabilia. And flags from around the world hang from the ceiling. Giving this bar a unique and fun feel. They also have a free popcorn machine to the right of the bar, as well as board games. There are a few tvs throughout the bar too. So there's something for everyone; whether they like history, sports, board games, or food and drinks. Our waitress was very quick and attentive to us, but allowed us to have space to watch the Sabres and play games uninterrupted. Overall a fun place to hang out with friends!

The Founding Fathers Pub looks like a place that you need to at least visit once. From the moment you walk in you are surrounded by history from the newspaper articles, the flags, the historic photos, and even the old school pub feel the building itself provides. I came here 2 weekends ago when my parents were visiting from Connecticut and it was the perfect late night place to have our final bite to eat with them. We showed up around 8:30 and got a nice seat in the quiet back half of the building (which my parents appreciated). The menu here is pretty standard for a bar and offers an array of burgers, sandwiches, salads, and appetizers to please most people. I ended up ordering a bacon cheeseburger which had some BBQ sauce on it and was served with potato chips. I enjoyed my cheeseburger but it was a pretty standard burger for what it was. The bacon was crispy, the BBQ sauce was alright, and the meat was a little more cooked then I would of liked. The chips were a solid tag team partner for it and I always enjoy eating them after the burger juice gets all over them. Overall, Founding Fathers Pub is a solid place to grab some lunch or late night food. I don't drink so I can't comment on the beer or alcohol selection but the service we had was good and our waitress was super friendly throughout our visit. Even though this wasn't my favourite place, I definitely think it's a must stop at least once.

Cool little dice bar with a wide selection of beer. I've only drank here but good crowd fair processes on beer and always a good time. It seems that a lot of college students come here during the year with questionable IDs BUT they're not annoying underage college goers. We like to come here for a different place to drink with a really cool atmosphere. My husbands a history buff and always likes to come!!

This is a cool bar in Buffalo! There is so much history to look at in every corner of this place and don't be surprised if the bartender has some amazing history trivia questions to ask you. Founding Fathers feels like your neighborhood corner bar but it's located downtown. If you haven't had dinner definitely eat here also, we were pleasantly surprised and will be eating here again!

Characters behind the bar for sure. "Nacho bar" adventure pairs well with a smile. I tried to order a shot of the dustiest bottle but instead it made the bar keep want to clean them.

Worst bar I have been to in years!! First I ask for quarters to feed the meter and the bartender gave me change from my $2 dollars. Again I told him I was feeding the meter!!! Then after I come back from feeding the meter he tells me not to worry about it since the meters stop at 5pm, it was 8pm. Too late bro. Next I drank my beer at the bar of all places and the bartender walked by me and my empty cup about 8 times before asking me if I needed anything. Last we asked for menus and got some old dingy menu that hasn't been cleaned or updated in 10+ years. No thanks. I left after two beers. Don't wast your time!!

This place looked really funky so I thought I'd stop by while visiting Buffalo. Closed Monday & Tuesday so no luck. I'll update if we make it back later in the week. Never did get back. Sorry. Pictures did look like a fun place to stop in. Maybe next visit to Buffalo.

Founding Fathers is a neat place, I love the decor, the design inside, and the vibe. They do some seriously awesome trivia here each week and they've got loads of different beers and drinks on tap. I didn't think the food was great but meh maybe I got unlucky. This place is street parking only but there is plenty nearby on both Delaware and Main or on Edward if you continue a block further north. There's a decent amount of tables and a good sized bar area to sit and the staff are friendly and helpful. Always a fun place to grab a drink, watch a game, and don't forget to come to trivia night! You'll have a good time!

If our Dads were all skipping and jumping through the forest, they would be the Bounding Fathers. And if our Dads were all relaxing in the front room, they would be the Lounging Fathers. If they were all from foreign countries, they'd be the Funny-Sounding Fathers. And if they were all hopping on the good foot and aggressively doing the bad thing with our Mothers (or with anyone really), then they'd be the Pounding Fathers. But this place is nothing to do with any of those things. This place is all about the origins of the USA. Which is why it's called the "Ben Franklin Bar." I tried to get an infamous burger from here on three separate occasions. One time they were absolutely slammed, and jovially informed me that they were not making burgers, as if to ask if I was crazy. The second time I called ahead and asked if they were making burgers, and this time they were very nice about it, but assured me they were not. Finally, the third time I tried to get a burger, they were not so busy, and they made me one. I have to say I liked it. It was big, but not as ridiculously enormous as I was expecting by the price and reviews. It was pretty tasty, but it wasn't completely out of this world. It was one of the better burgers I've had. It was probably a low 5/5, and I was considering giving it a 5 but then I thought since it is borderline, and since it is so hard and so time-consuming to even get a burger from here, and since it gave my dear friend Alex food poisoning (not CM Alex, Trivia Alex), then I will settle on a 4 and call it even. So it's a good burger, but it's not the best burger in the region, for which you should head to Ruzzine's, Mooney's, Sterling Place Tavern, or Vizzi's. I heard there is a famous trivia night here, but not being American, American History trivia questions don't really get my proverbial juices flowing. And not being a drinker, a place like this is always going to have a hard time earning a 5 from me unless the food is off the proverbial charts. I just used proverbial twice in one paragraph. Actually that's now three uses of proverbial. Nope... four. Wow. Is that a proverbial record? Crap! Five! Damnit!

This place rocks! It has a ton of historical memorabilia that adds to the reputation of this as a neighborhood bar with its own distinctive character. This place will get pretty loud on a Friday night, but when I was here the waitress remained super professional when dealing with our huge party of 20+ people. I was impressed. I ordered a burger, which was cooked perfectly to order (medium-rare) and delicious. I paid, saw some other friends at the bar and left with a great impression of this place. As others have mentioned, they host great trivia as well.

Cheap drinks, great food, solid location, sweet staff! Another plus = trivia on the first Tuesday (I think) of every month. ANOTHER plus = always a nacho bar and popcorn! So what's not to love? Besides the nachos and popcorn you can order actual meals which are fabulous. I know it sounds weird to order bologna at a restaurant but their fried bologna is spectacular. HUGE! Just fantastic. Definitely recommend any night of the week for a casual night out.

WHAT A COOL PLACE!!! There are pictures of presidents everywhere and their placemats..those classic presidents and the years they held office papers from elementary school. Their bartenders are also incredibly knowledgeable about "the founding fathers" and most political topics! You can also ask them to mix you "something fruity" or "a mixed vodka drink" and they always seem to have something up their sleeve! They also have a decent beer selection, and have food offerings as well! Not to mention, who could wish for anything more than an endless, free build your own nacho bar!?! Truly a great place. Now only if it smelled of rich mahogany...

I love this bar. One of my favorite pubs to hideaway in. I love the decor and theme of US Presidents. Great food and drink. Staff is very friendly. The pub is tight and limited on space.

The first time I came to FF was after reading about this place on the list of must-see bars of America and thought it would be a good idea to take my best friend visiting Buffalo for the first time. I think the general consensus was that we liked the place, and we really, really enjoyed the popcorn. And the nachos. We actually made a beautiful creation combining the popcorn with the nacho toppings to make NACHO POPCORN. It was really quite delightful, and I recommend you try this if you go, even if it results in you getting glares from other patrons, and also makes a mess because the popcorn baskets have holes in them and the cheese might spill out all over the bar, but it will be worth it because it's all for the glory of the nacho popcorn. But, I digress. I should probably gear this review to the not-free elements of the pub. FF is where I popped my blueberry cherry, as in blueberry beer, and it was AMAZING. It was like drinking blueberry pie, and if that doesn't sound appealing to you then you don't deserve blueberry beer. The bartender there is super sweet and quirky, and when I visited FF for the second time, he remembered my affinity for the blueberry beer, so kudos for that. Overall, I am a fan of this place -- it has a super neat interior filled with FUN HISTORICAL FACTS, and it has a nice relaxed atmosphere. Plus, the food smells good. I haven't tried it, (because popcorn), but I bet the food is delicious too. *Beware of the popcorn. It is extremely salty and you WILL wake up parched if you eat baskets and baskets of it with your dranks.

Founding Fathers is an institution, if you didn't know before then I hope you don't wait much longer to educate yourself. On top of having the coolest atmosphere of any bar in the city (this place will leave your US history teacher drooling), Mike, the owner, will pepper your bar experience with trivia questions, cheap drinks, free nachos and popcorn, and a generally friendly vibe. In terms of selection, their draft list and cocktail ingredients are certainly spartan. But you can get any standard cocktail or a draft ipa or lager if you're not that picky. Honestly though, that's not why you go to Founding Fathers. You go there to hang out in a big room full of flags, presidential portraits, American history memorabilia intent on making new friends or catching a few minutes of a game. If you go earlier in the night, it's a perfect spot for a date or a happy hour to commiserate with coworkers. Lastly, the food here is hit or miss. I've had experiences where I enjoyed their burger and experiences when I have sent it back. But the prices are reasonable and every employee is great at their job. You want to go here. You need to go here. It's not a place you'll soon forget ;)

Out of all the bars I've been to, I feel like this bar sums up Buffalo for me. The decorations that flood this small place are great conversation pieces and are genuinely fascinating. Not only is the decor amazing, but the service is always friendly and fast! I have never had a negative experience with the staff. What makes this place great is that the prices are cheap AND they have complimentary snacks! Although the snacks aren't the best, for being free and drunk food, they're absolutely perfect. They have popcorn, chips, nacho cheese, chili and pickled jalapeños (my fav). This is probably a big reason why me and my friends come here so often. If you haven't already, be sure to check this bar out!

In this realm where trivial concepts such as "numbers" and "reviews" still exist to bleating sheep who only ever see, at most, twenty percent of the truth, founding fathers gets an emphatic five stars! Two thumbs way, way up!"

Drank many times here. First time eating here. Food was just what you expected...great place to get a regular meal. Nothing fancy. I got the BBQ Bacon Cheddar Burger which was a special. Served with chips. Free popcorn. Small number of tables...maybe 7? Seat yourself. Good service. I think there is only really 1 server and then a couple bartenders. They do take credit card and don't typically split checks.

Went there for a date night with my wife. She had the classic ham special and loved it. I had the hot pastrami, the bartender asked if I wanted to try the cooks special version and I said sure. It was awesome. The cocktails were great as well. Add in the history aspect and decor and it's a can't miss if you like history, food and drink.

Reviewing bars is tough. If you pop in once or twice, you can't review properly. If you're a regular, maybe you're a bit soft. I fall in to the second category. I know people's names and they know my drinks. It's a good relationship. With that disclosure I'm going to give you a straight review on Founding Fathers. Founding Fathers has become a top destination on many on-line bar bucket lists, likely because their theme is celebratory of our presidents and, well, founding fathers. The placemats list them all and there are artifacts and memorabilia from throughout American history everywhere. Many of the items are probably one-of-a-kind. If you're a political buff there's something unique for you. The photo of a teenage Bill Clinton meeting JFK is my favorite. It's not the Smithsonian, but it has an impressive number of flags hung from the rafters from literally anyone who ever stitched a flag. If you want a fun game try to identify them all. Even though I enjoy the political and historical decor, I'm more impressed by the weird number of mirrors in Founding Fathers. They have a lot of historical mirrors with some of them being as large as a doorway! THIS IS NOT A BAR FOR VAMPIRES! Beyond the decor, it's a decent bar with pretty good food. In addition to a menu that includes a great pastrami sandwich (the steak sandwich is also solid), there's always free nachos and popcorn. Founding Fathers is definitely worth a visit. I love that it's garnered so much attention, but at the end of the day it's just a great corner bar with a lot of political memorabilia. For me, that's more than enough.

As I mentioned in my tip, if it wasn't for the decor - I do not think this place would do nearly as well. The food was disappointing - starting with the complimentary popcorn which was stale, the french onion soup was cold, my chicken was cold, chips served with the meal were also stale! The service was poor - waiter was very short with us, I think he was annoyed we were asking questions about the menu because it was our first time there. Yeah, they have inexpensive drinks but that seems to be a pattern throughout the Buffalo area. I am glad I went at least once, but will not be asking my boyfriend to bring me back anytime soon.

Great drinks and great prices! Love the owner! He is so friendly and pleasant to be around. However, the only issue I had was with the employee named Brooke. She made a really rude comment to my boyfriend and was disrespectful. Other than her it is an awesome bar!

Founding Fathers is a true gem. I came here on Friday, February 16, 2018, for a nightcap after a rather unsuccessful date with someone I met on Plenty of Fish. I'm oversharing; I digress. The decor in this place is awesome. Make no mistake, Founding Fathers is a pub in the most traditional sense, but you'll be constantly entertained by your surroundings. If you're a history nerd like me, you'll get a kick out of this joint. Another thing I appreciated about their interior is that despite being a casual pub, it's rather clean and well-kept. The bartender on duty effortlessly rambled off trivia questions in any category requested. Despite having been a history minor in college, I failed this category miserably, but I redeemed myself when the geography round came up. The complimentary snacks here are better than the complimentary snacks at many bars - especially their buttered popcorn. If you're looking for a laid-back atmosphere and to possibly nerd out to trivia, you couldn't choose a better place! I'll definitely be back!

Lives up to expectations. It's not glamorous by any means, but it doesn't try to be. The food was great for being bar food, and the free popcorn / nacho bar is an awesome perk. Can't wait to go back when we're back in the city.
