Recently ordered French toast with powdered sugar and a side topping of strawberries with it. They forgot to put it in the bag. Wasn’t even busy when I got there at opening. And another customer ordered after me and got their order first before me. Didn’t notice until after I got to my Airbnb so I called and the lady on the phone said i could go back and that was the only option she gave for an error that was in them. Do better.

Google
Wonderful brunch experience here. I ordered the turkey melt and my husband got the Chicago omelette and a single piece of French toast. The service was great and fast, our waitress was very friendly and helpful. The home fries had amazing seasoning and flavor. There was practically no wait despite how many others were enjoying their time here. I definitely recommend enjoying this place!

Google
Adorable eatery with small inside dining. I got the mushrooms Swiss burger. They use fresh mushrooms and cooked perfectly. My friend got the bacon cheeseburger and it was awesome. We upgraded to the fries and they were cooked to a nice crisp. Server was friendly and attentive.

This functional and nicely located restaurant is okay for a stop for breakfast or lunch while in Salem. We stopped in for lunch and had a hamburger plate and a chicken topped Greek salad. See pics.We received decent service and prices are reasonable if not inexpensive due to the location in a very touristy area. My Greek salad was okay and a generous portion, however the greens were not chilled. My wife had the hamburger plate which was about average and the fries were okay, too. There is a restroom for patrons but it is down a steep flight of stairs. Not accessible for mobility-impaired. In our opinion a decent place to eat but nothing special. Indoor and outdoor seating, no booze.

Google
Love the location for visiting. The earlier the better because it is a busy spot and lots of traffic. 3 of us went and the bill was $70ish. Nothing too extravagant. We got a Philly cheese sandwich, fried chicken sandwich, and a tenders with fries. It was all yummy just a tad expensive for what we got. Overall we enjoyed it, probably will do something different. Waitress Holly was very nice!!

Google
My wife and I are here yesterday an be the food was amazing. We had a short wait outside, but we did manage to get a table inside. Our waitress was amazing and very quick. She got our drinks quickly and made sure to check on us. The food came out hot and tasted amazing. The meat lovers eggs Benedict was amazing. The eggs were cooked perfectly. My wife got an omelete with tomatoe, feta, spinach and bacon, which was perfectly cook. This will definitely be on our repeat visit list.

We recently visited, and while there were notable positive aspects to my visit, I regrettably encountered several issues that detracted from my overall experience. The service was good. The waiter was very attentive and we did not have any auto tipping as others have mentioned. While the Fountain Place restaurant does have a bathroom, a rarity in Salem, I'm not sure how it has passed a safety inspection. If you can get past the fact that it's downstairs with two areas to hit your head that do not have a warning, then you will wonder if there's a hole in the floor covered by a mat. I suspect there is because I'm not sure why else there is an oversized mat and I feel like I'm falling through the floor. It was also not clean, which made me wonder if the kitchen was clean. The chicken sandwich was on special, but honestly looked like they used Shake-n-Bake to cook the chicken. It tasted as mediocre as it sounds. The french fries were good and the omelette was good. Overall, it was edible but felt overpriced. The portions were very large. The place has so much potential, but l suspect that it's an old building. It's in a prominent location, but it seems like they just don't care. At the bare minimum, I think it could use a deep cleaning and maybe some organic ingredients. A little TLC would go a long way here. My visit was disappointing and I would not recommend.

Google
Great place! Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Food was good, not outstanding. Food was very fresh though and big proportions. Do wish they had sourdough. The home style fries were pretty good, but a bit too greasy. Good seasoning though. Would come back!

Yelp
Great spot and consistent food - always a breakfast or brunch location for me when in Salem-make sure you get in line early as it's well sought out spot to people watch in the outdoor seating.

Yelp
My friend and I ate here last Sunday during our quick trip to Salem. We wanted to eat at the ugly mug, but the lines are way too long. We noticed that this restaurant didn't have much of a wait. We were seated, they took our orders, and we eagerly awaited for our breakfast. We split a pancake and got eggs and home fries. The potatoes were good, but the eggs were nothing special. The pancake was horrible! It was super dry. Hot chocolate was good and the service was good too. Bathroom is located down a flight of stairs and it was clean and not smelly. Overall, this is a good spot to get breakfast. Just be prepared to wait or get there early, right when it opens to beat the crowds.

Yelp
Yuck. Read my reviews, I'm typically a very generous yelper. I am not a super foodie. This place from dirty tables, disorganized waiting, but mainly the ice cold sausage delivered and the server handling it with her hands and passing it to the cook who then threw it back into a skillet with other people's food, unsanitary yes, and just gross. Talk about cross contamination, yuck. Walk somewhere else.

Yelp
Pretty standard diner-type food. Simple menu, small, informal inside. No frills, and decent service. If I were back in the area, and looking for something informal I would stop by this joint knowing it's pretty solid.

Yelp
Been to the Fountain Place restaurant many times and it has been ok (meh), filling food, decent prices in the past. This trip it surprised us!! They've stepped up their game significantly!! Had the Irish eggs Benny. The hash was super delish! Hollandaise sauce was flavorful and creamy! Very pleased with the food and service!
google avatar

Jordan S.

Yelp
Service was fast and friendly but the food wasn't very good. Crabcakes Benedict cost as much as any other place but overall quality was meh. Patties were super thin, and weirdly sweet. Hollandaise had a really odd punch to it, way too acidic and when combined with the sweet crab cake it was like easy a seafood lemonade. Not recommended. Wife's food was also entirely forgettable (really, we can't remember what she ordered but do remember it being meh). The friendly service gets the two stars.

Yelp
Not a fan. Nice outdoor setting, but 4 of us came for breakfast and no one cared for their meal. My wife just ordered a side of the corned beef hash. The outside was nice and crispy (see photo), but the inside of cold and mushy. She didn't eat much of it. Two of us had the Greek omelet (2nd photo). I ordered it to try the Greek sausage, but honestly it looked and tasted like ham. The toast seemed greasy. The fruit was good. The wait staff were nice and very efficient. There are better places to get breakfast.
google avatar

Yelp
Table of four : we got the eggs Benedict with home fries , big breakfast and two eggs with bacon. Unfortunately this experience was disappointing... the home fries were so spicy, I couldn't finish them. The French fries that were substituted were too salty to enjoy either. The service is subpar and could use a little work on hosting. Friendly servers ... we left food on our plates and hungry stomachs

Yelp
We were in Salem for the day and stopped in for a quick meal before heading out to a few other historical stops. The restaurant is very conveniently located and our server was very attentive. The breakfast and lunch menus are huge and have everything you can think of. The space itself is small and relatively quiet. The food left a little to be desired - everything was extremely greasy and lacked flavor. I ordered a simple breakfast sandwich with home fries and the potatoes were absolutely coated in grease. It wasn't a terrible meal, but not one I would eat again. My husband ordered pancakes and they were alright, but a little undercooked.

Yelp
Breakfast was good service was excellent plenty of elbow room compared to the ugly mug very pleasant. I like this place. Some other places are over rated but this place is very nice i dont think it receives enough credit that it deserves. I recommend this place our waitress really made us feel welcomed she really was very pleasant very attentive. Real sweet and kind very polite. I always tell people the waitress and the porter are the most important people they are the true representatives of a restaurant. They are the ones that can make you or break you in the restaurant business our waitress Holly is the perfect example of really good hard working restaurant representative.

Yelp
Great service and good food! Prices are on the higher end but that's all or boston to be honest. Our server Laura was super sweet and kind. We both ordered the BIG Breakfast (comes with coffee) and Western omelette. The hot chocolate was pretty darn good in my opinion and only $3 compared to other spots.

Yelp
Boldy went stopped here during Halloween weekend. There was a line out the door. However, we only spent a couple minutes waiting in line because a table with pur party size was ready. Others waiting for smaller tables (parties of 2) had to wait longer. The restaurant gave very much diner vibes The restaurant offered both breakfast and lunch options. My party ordered mostly lunch. I ordered a Greek salad with steak tips. The waitress didn't ask how I liked my steak, and I forgot to mention it, but most of my steak arrived overcooked but still edible. The salad, overall of was mediocre. After lunch I went to the bathroom and they could use a cleaning. The ceiling vent right above the toilet was covered with a thick layer of dust. There was a another plug in that was covered in bugs (which I think is the purpose of the plug in) but I'd recommend that they reconsider the placement to a more discreet location

Yelp
We went there on a Sunday, waited around 30 mnts in the line, there was some tables available outside but was cold so we prefer to wait. As soon as we got sat a waiter came to us and took the order, everything tasted so good, we love the food! Place is cozy and comfy!

Yelp
Great "greasy spoon" breakfast place right in downtown Salem. The patio seemed lovely but my daughter was chilly so we opted for an indoor table. It's a smallish place and it was packed. The staff was hustling but effective at keeping my coffee cup full. We were all happy with our meals. My Irish Benedict was yummy.

Yelp
My friend and I wanted to grab a quick bite to eat in between getting a massage and grocery shopping. It was a very hot Sunday afternoon, but we were still able to get seated right away. There are tables outside with umbrellas so you do have some coverage from the beating sun. Our "small meal" turned out to be very filling. My friend had the chicken kebab wrap with a side of french fries well I had the Portabella mushroom Panini with more french fries. We also shared a side of fruit. Chicken was nicely marinated and seasoned with the crispy and fluffy filing French fries. The Panini was heavily filled and super satisfying. I liked how it wasn't dry being an entirely vegetable based sandwich. Overall, we had a good experience. Our waitress was nice and she made sure to continuously ask us if we need anything else. I would recommend others to come!

Yelp
Another over priced average food quality and flavor of restaurant. At least we got hot crispy fries. Chicken was not dry, or hard. Was a good chicken tender. $23 for 3 chicken strips and fries.

Yelp
This place is terrible ..They take too long and they did not acknowledge us waiting for menus didn't say anything to us.
google avatar

Donna S.

Yelp
Very slow service, poor food. I came here for lunch - just a simple turkey sandwich with Swiss cheese. They had no whole grain, wheat or pumpernickel bread. The first time I ordered it, it took forever, and when it was served it was grilled. I had specified the sandwich to be cold. It took another 20 minutes for a simple cold turkey and cheese sandwich. At least I had potato chips to tide me over. I had a stomach ache after - I will not eat at this diner again, and recommend that it be avoided!

Yelp
Yes just go!! You won't be disappointed. I stop here for breakfast or lunch whenever I'm in town. The servers are so very pleasant and fun. Definitely give off a cool vibe and seen to love their job which says a lot. I've gotten most everything on the menue at this point and my favorite is the sausage and cheese omelette. Portions are just big enough to feel like you don't want to eat anymore but small enough in which you don't have to carry leftovers around too all day

Alicia D.

Yelp
Visited on 8/9/2024. The servers were warm and welcoming with high energy and enthusiastic attention to detail. The veggie burger and fries were absolutely delicious!

Yelp
Located conveniently on the corner of Essex st, Fountain Place was the right place for us to have our breakfast yesterday. Smaller than I pictured on the inside but we sat at a table that gave us a nice view of Salem. I ordered the big breakfast , it was everything I expected from the perfectly cooked over easy eggs to the fluffy sugar powdered French toast that came with it. Our service was great , everyone was friendly. Now to go to back to try their lunch !!

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick bite while passing through Salem. Great little find. Simple good food, comfortable environment and friendly staff made this a great experience for my family and me. The menu was full of great options for everyone to include egg white scrambles and other healthy choices. The servings were larger to the point that my wife and teenage son could not finish there meals. For us that is a good thing, lol. The food had great flavor and was priced right. It is a smaller location with no actual waiting area inside the restaurant so you may need to wait a few minutes to get seated. When we went here they said that it would be 20 minutes but we were seated in under 10. It is located on a main street as well as near all shops. If you are looking for something good and simple, this just might be your choice.

Yelp
Arrived to Salem for the first time with my wife and her family (Party of 7). This place did not disappoint. Location is the perfect spot for breakfast and lunch if you are planning to spend the day here looking at stores and sightseeing. Holly was our server and she was amazing. She tentative and willing to get us our foods. One downfall was timing of food. There was no one in the restaurant however, it was worth the wait for the food. I had a bacon cheeseburger (cheddar instead of American) and French fries. Usually French fries included in many places, but not here. It's $3 extra. It was cooked perfectly to my liking of medium beef and bacon was crunchy and delicious. French fries was great as well. My wife had the Grilled chicken panini. I did not expect it to taste so good. I looked at my families meal and all of them said they loved it. Overall, it was great experience at this location and I am not feeling hungry after 6 hours.

Yelp
I was beyond impressed with this excellent restaurant. We were honestly going to try to go to the ugly mug across the street and I am beyond happy there was 120 minutes wait because we would of never decided to find this gem! We saw this cute place and thought to head over. They seated our table of 10 guest within 6 minutes. The owners daughter was our waitress, very sweet girl and knew her stuff! I love that this was a family owned business and the father was hosting everyone. The breakfast food was definitely by far the best breakfast food I had in a very long time. (This says a lot, because we are from NYC). Thank you for the great service and amazing food! I am so happy we ended up there! We definitely will be back!

Yelp
The most classic, delicious diner experience. Service was good on a Saturday morning at 11am and the food was amazing. Best diner breakfast I've had in a while. Pancakes were the highlight of the meal!
google avatar

Rabi V.

Yelp
The service is good. Given the crowds we were in and out fast. Food overall was decent. Typical diner. I would not get the chowder. "Chowdah" like it says on the menu. Simply put was bad. Especially for Massachusetts. White water with potatoes. Lol. The eggs Benedict was good. Hamburger was good. Grilled cheese was good. Chicken strips tasted store bought frozen kind. The young man serving us was friendly and good.

Jill R.

Yelp
Quick service and ok food. Server offered us fruit or home fries as if they were included in our meal but then we were charged extra. We told her we would not have ordered them if we had known they were not included. She said sorry but did not take anything off our bill. Tricky.

Yelp
Stopped here while touring around Salem in mid-October. The weather was great and we dined on their makeshift patio. The tables were under a tent. The service was great and the food was great as well. I had the turkey panini. It is a panini with turkey, thousand island dressing, roasted red peppers, lettuce, tomato and cheese, I omitted the cheese. It was served with French fries. I'm not sure if I was just so famished, but the sandwich was really good and I enjoyed it. The bread really made the sandwich. It is a great little diner. The bathroom is downstairs and one stall.

Dee G.

Yelp
The Belgian waffles with peanut butter chips were to die for. The staff was so attentive and friendly!

Vincent S.

Yelp
I don't really know what to say other than this place was terrible. The food was cold; the wait staff were unfriendly. Those around us dinning had the same experience, I'm not sure what's going on here but it definitely made an impact on us.
google avatar

Yelp
While in Salem for a pit stop, we settled first upon another place which was part of the "tolerant" community that treated us like dirt so we walked up the street to Fountain Place. Ran by some older ladies with thiccc New England accents it was more my speed. We were immediately sat and brought out drinks and a coffee for myself. Again, I went with the breakfast special which came with eggs, sausage patties, english muffin, and home fries. In another review I say that when getting a breakfast like this I am looking for something different from what anyone could do in their own kitchens. I found that here in the home fries. I am not sure what was on them - tasted like some paprika and other spices which added to the taste and had some grease to them as well. Big fan- as well as a big fan of the sausage patties. Nice women, appreciated it greatly.

Yelp
From East Los Angeles to a Great service from staff. food was great, restaurant was a good choice for breakfast. Thank you enjoy.
google avatar

Ann P.

Yelp
Food was terrible the worst breakfast I ever ate .. the floors were dirty and the and the coffee tasted like dirt water .. and the condition was very unkept .. below average food .. basic menu .. I would not recommend

Ella S.

Yelp
One of my absolute favorite restaurants for breakfast. The servers are always nice and quick, making sure that we always have coffee in our mugs and are satisfied. The food itself is to die for, I'm a pancake lover and always get their pancakes; fingers and fluffy and they load the topping on top. The breakfast sampler is amazing as well and really can fill you up for a great price. Other places just don't compare!
google avatar

Diane H.

Yelp
This place was awesome. A rack of ribs could last 2 days! The salmon with pineapple salsa was some of the best I've ever had. Great service, too.
google avatar

Dulce L.

Yelp
We had originally planned to have breakfast at the ugly mug but we couldn't get a seating due to the large crowds in Salem in October. But it turned out in our favor. We happen to stumble upon this small restaurant with out door seating and we decided at the last minute to try to get a table. There was a short line of about 15 minutes but we did manage to get a table inside. We ordered two eggs benedict breakfast and one breakfast that had all the fixings of an American breakfast. Everything we ordered was wonderful. Our eggs benedict were delicious and the breakfast potatoes were amazing. I'm glad we couldn't get a table at the ugly mug because this was very good and I highly recommend it on your visit to Salem.
google avatar

John K.

Yelp
We went for breakfast - it was fine. Average. Prices seemed a little high but this was our first breakfast out in the area so maybe not out of line with other local places. My wife had scrambled eggs and I had an omelette - very little to no seasonings were used. Wouldn't object to eating here again but will try some place else tomorrow!

Karrington S.

Yelp
The food and service was great and we got seated very fast during a busy time! The only thing that was strange the main chef seemed to get really annoyed at the waitress when she asked him for a side of tzatziki for my wrap, he did it again when the table next to us also asked... Made it a bit uncomfortable because everyone could hear. Other than that everything was good!
google avatar

Yvette C.

Yelp
I'm giving 3 stars for location and my waiter but my pancakes were over cooked and I was short one pancake and the banana wasn't ripe. My toast was cold and the coffee was watery. Watch your step if you go to the bathroom the steps are super steep and the energy is heavy down where it located.
google avatar

Tamara T.

Yelp
Overpriced and felt we were an inconvenience for being there. Bathroom is downstairs and not clean, even at opening of day. Food was lackluster.
google avatar

Adam M.

Yelp
Extremely poor quality and terrible service. The restaurant was basically empty and I was NEVER asked if I wanted a refill of my drink. The sandwiches are mediocre afterthoughts for what's basically a breakfast place. Because $10 for eggs an bacon that cost $1.00 at home makes perfect sense. The tuna salad was the worst I've ever had little to no mayonnaise and zero seasoning of any kind. The fries were flavorless and soggy. And What kind of sandwich place doesn't serve pickles with the sandwiches? I only recommend this place for those fasting
google avatar

Laura K.

Yelp
One of my favorite places in Salem to enjoy a delicious breakfast! The food is great and the servers are very helpful without being intrusive. See if you can snag a window seat so you can enjoy the view of Essex Street while you eat.

Meghan W.

Yelp
People with allergies beware. I have a dairy allergy. I said so multiple times when ordering. Halfway into my meal I started to get symptomatic. Upon arriving home I was violently ill for hours. We also were served our food without silverware (I had to go up and ask) and did not receive our coffees until the very end of the meal (our server forgot). These other things are forgivable, but telling me the food was safe when it was clearly wasn't for someone like me (and many others) is unacceptable. I can absolutely see this place putting someone in the hospital with their dismissal of allergies. Also heads up for wheelchair users-- their bathroom is in the basement and not accessible
google avatar

Miranda L.

Yelp
This place is amazing. I'm visiting from San Diego California and Elliot was my server. The service was great he was so kind. We had the hash grilled cheese and on my goodness was it delicious!!! I def recommend!
google avatar

Cathy G.

Yelp
Halloween weekend can you just imagine the lines for every place! It was also so cold out. Well we came across the fountain place and the line didn't look to bad so we got in. Within 2 mins they asked if anyone wanted to sit outside at an available table we decided to sit outside. The staff was friendly and kept coming around with hot coffee. I had the chocolate with whipped cream and my taste buds were so happy! Our breakfast was just delicious! Best home fries I've had in a long time, maybe ever! You know how there's always that one or two you get that is undercooked? It didn't happen to any of us they were all cooked and seasoned so well! I would bare the cold again for this breakfast.
google avatar

Crystal O.

Yelp
We ended up here because our original planned lunch stop had over an hour wait! Yikes- here we waited about 15 minutes. They want you to just line up outside- but the sign was paper and wilting in the rain. I saw it after I was done eating and outside. The kitchen is super fast! They had told us when we tried to walk in that turnover is fast- that the wait wouldn't be long and they were right. I went with a (safe choice) chicken salad sandwich and added fries. John went wild and got a corned beef hash grilled cheese. Yes- go back and read that again! It came with homefries and a fried egg thrown in there and I stole a bit of the corned beef hash- perfection and then later tried a bite of the whole sandwich and it was amazing. When we were finished eating I was stalking the table next to us drooling over their meals- a nutella and fluff sandwich that looked delicious and I don't even like nutella!!! LOL. Service is fast, friendly and that food was delish! Warning though- bathrooms are downstairs int he basement- so handicap won't be able to use the restroom here.

Yelp
Would go again but definitely to just try something different. I decided to try something new & got the Irish Eggs Benedict. The Corned beef hash was okay but the hollandaise sauce was broken & tasted of nothing & the egg was poached completely hard. I would have been equally as disappointed if I got the normal Benedict just cause the two best parts were terrible.
google avatar

Becca F.

Yelp
Great food -- but bad bad service. I'm trying to be understanding but while there with my gf we asked to get the coffee we ordered 15 mins earlier and the waitress we asked told us "ask your server" and walked on past -- meanwhile the coffee pot was right behind the counter where she went and stood. Also, the restaurant is way too small for how much the older waitresses were throwing around swear words Then when we were finishing up the bus girl came and took my gf coffee before we were finished and that really pissed her off the rest of the day.
google avatar

Katie H.

Yelp
Fantastic breakfast spot to stop at before adventuring around Salem. The breakfast potatoes are some of the best breakfast potatoes I have ever had - please get a side of them and you won't be disappointed! Service was still great despite it being exceptionally busy. We got to enjoy perfect weather for outdoor dining on the patio and had some amazing people watching!
