Fountainhead Antique Auto Museum

Phenomenal place! The volunteers were super knowledgeable (thanks Steven!) and both the cars and the antique attire were immaculately taken care of. Hope you get to see one or more of their cars in action (only 3 don’t get out and about). Recommend during your trip to Fairbanks!

An absolute gem of museum!! The layout, details about the vehicles, all the time period clothing, and pictures from the Alaskan history is incredible. If you are in Fairbanks this is A MUST SEE! Amazing that most of these vehicles are in full operation. Can’t wait till they are in the new location which should allow for more vehicles and some planes. Oh, and if you can’t tell, most of these vehicles are in perfect mint condition.

My husband and I visited the Fountainhead Antique Auto Museum and had such a wonderful time! This museum is not just for men or car enthusiasts, it’s also perfect for women who enjoy fashion and history. We were amazed by how beautifully the cars were displayed, each telling a story of innovation and style from the early 1900s to the 1930s. To me, what made the experience even more special was the vintage fashion collection. Each era of cars was matched with elegant dresses, including some stunning evening gowns from the early 1900s. I especially loved seeing the trends in nightgowns and formal wear—so classy and detailed! It felt like stepping into a glamorous movie from the past. The fabrics, embroidery, and silhouettes showed how fashion evolved alongside the cars. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. They were happy to answer questions and explain more about the history behind both the vehicles and the clothing. The museum was clean, well-lit, and thoughtfully organized, making it easy to enjoy each display. Whether you love classic cars, beautiful dresses, or simply enjoy learning about history in a creative way, this museum is a must-visit in Fairbanks. It’s truly a place where both men and women can find something to appreciate and remember.

Pleasantly surprised. This was so much more than we planned for. First person we met had authentic clothing she wore every day donated to her from a much older women (90’s)who was also a vintage cloths collector so they looked almost new. This is so much more than a car museum. Outfits to match period cars, pictures of the Alaskan experience with cars over the years.

Really interesting restored and original cars, motorcycles and women's fashions to match. Informative signs. The only challenge is you want to read it all, it is so well done. A few videos spread around and old Alaska photos in the walls

The breadth and depth of this car and dress collection is amazing. Truly the best car collection I have ever seen. And it’s a living museum with all in working condition except three. You can spend your day seeing it all while in awe.

Short informative introduction before self touring. All displays had a placard explaining the item. Great mixture of automobiles, clothes, and pieces of history. My husband could have spent all day here.

I'm not a car guy. I'm really not. This collection, though, is not just some car collector showing off. It's history as set in Alaska. You learn about specific owners, stories, and, as a big surprise, clothing from the time. Put some money aside for the three book set. This can be an all day visit to take it all I'm. Probably more. I'd plan to eat before or after as it is off by itself. No coffee or drinks. I wouldn't mind an extra bench or two.

Do not miss this! I'm not a car fanatic, nor a fashionista... but this was my favorite "thing to do" visit while in Fairbanks (other than Aurora Hunting of course). The collection is amazing. The history and information provided was very interesting. Kudos to the team there! It was truly a memorable stop.

This museum is an absolute gem. Well worth the price of admission. Not only is the pre-WWII automobile collection incredible--and nearly all functional--but the collection of antique & vintage clothing and accessories is top-tier. The collections have nothing on the amazing staff/volunteers, though. They floated throughout the space and would check in with us and other guests occasionally to share fun anecdotes or answers any questions. Specifically want to shout out Steven for chatting with us, teaching us (we are admittedly novices with cars, at best) about the vehicles, and lending us his excellent photography skills. Within the next year, the museum is set to move into a much larger space, which will allow them to display even more of their collection, including airplanes! I can't wait to come back after they move.

Holy moly what a collection of fantastic automobiles and exquisitely dressed mannequins! 100% recommend.

A Transportation History and Auto Evolution [Fairbanks AK] I don't know much about automobiles and am not a car enthusiast. As long as I have a reliable, decent car to use that will take me from point A to point B then I'm good... but wow! what an amazing display of car history at this museum. I learned a lot at the Fountainhead Auto Museum as my hubby and I marveled at the stunning showcase of cars from the late 1800's to 1930's. Before we started our self-guided tour we were given a brief history of the museum. Alongside the cars are the fashion corresponding to that era starting with a history on bicycles which paved the way for automobiles. General Admission is $18 (adults 13+). The cars were beautifully restored and I believe all of them (except for 3 cars) are in working condition. The period dresses worn back then were gorgeous making this a museum both me and hubby enjoyed -- cars and fashion. Each display had a description. So much to see! The employees were there to answer questions and talk about the history of the cars. I enjoyed the history on the electric powered cars... I'm not referring to a Tesla. No, these are from the early 1900's -- the 1912 Rauch & Lang and the 1913 Argo (Model C). These are Cinderella coaches and would appeal more to women LoL! We spent about an hour or so in the museum. It was a one of a kind experience for us. A classic gem and a must do when visiting Fairbanks AK. Review #3123

Very extensive collection - don't miss this on your visit to Fairbanks ! Very informative docents and ask the front desk to honk the horn cause you know you want to! Read the stories and have a good laugh at the feats of these ancient automobiles and Alaskan history.

Our group of 7 had a nice time learning the history of car manufacturing and the fashion of that era. The cars are beautifully maintained. There is also an area where you can dress up in vintage clothing and take photos. That was a lot of fun.

This place has a huge collection of antique cars, many from the 1910-1930 era. They are all wonderfully cared for and restored in house. Almost all the cars get driven once a year on the roads, which would be such a cool sight to see. There are 80+ antique cars and clothing from the same times. These cars are absolutely beautiful to look at, and I learned so much from the employees/volunteers there. Winter hours are limited but I'd highly recommend going out of your way to check this place out. $18/adult and we were there for 1.5-2hrs.

I loved this museum and was surprised by that as I'm not really into cars! I decided to come here as there were so many good reviews about the place and I have to say, I agree. It's a fascinating museum with beautifully restored antique cars and clothes too. The black and white photos of the first cars in Fairbanks was great to see and they also have movie clips too. Steven, the docent, was great at giving you little nuggets of information about the cars, clothes, etc. Thank you Steven, for sharing the history of these cars.

Hands down the best auto museum that I have ever visited...and I am 82. The evolution of woman's fashions was a very surprising plus. The history of each vehicle on display was a large plus.

Amazing collection of antique vehicles and garments. The staff was super friendly and educational. Very nice put together museum for a reasonable price. Next to the antique automobiles were garments that were commonly worn during that era. Not a car guy, but definitely enjoyed coming to see some of America's oldest and rarest cars!

Took my wife here for the first time and absolutely loved it. Loved all the old cars and the clothing that they had on display.

This place is very cool! Almost all of these cars still run which is amazing, they even have one available you can sit in. These are the most beautiful cars I have ever seen, they are immaculate and stupid gorgeous. They are also amazing feats of engineering, there is an electric car from 1913 and even a car with a magnetic drive mechanism from 1917. The accompanying clothing from the era is stunning and legit. They had one of Bing Crosby's suits on display from 1923. There are approximately 120 outfits on the floor at a time and they rotate through 700 different pieces so there is new stuff to see! It was definitely worth the stop and we look forward to going back!

This museum is an absolute must if you are traveling to Fairbanks! This museum is absolutely spectacular and truly a world class collection of American cars and vintage fashion The staff and volunteers were friendly and knowledgeable and very engaging. we had the opportunity to talk with the owners of the museum and they could not have been nicer.

I'm not an auto enthusiast but I admit I enjoyed my time here. The exhibit is exquisite, cars in tip top shape ready to drive off the showroom (exhibit) floor. I imagined a time when those who could afford a car, purchased one of these vehicles. They were likely wearing their finest - many examples of vintage finery were dispersed throughout. The beading and details on the gowns and shifts is something to see. You can have some fun slipping on some of the costumes and accessories that are available. You can even snap a photo or three in costume IN a vehicle. Kinda cool for the kidletts, no? Who am I kidding, the adults were the ones having fun. Hours are limited so check the website. Affordable too. Great way to spend an afternoon with family or yourself...daydreaming about yesteryear.

Unique auto museum whose main attraction is superbly restored US made, pre-WWII antique cars of all types, many from the 1st 20 years of automobiles. I have been to a lot of great automotive museums before and I had never seen the majority of these vehicles. Even more astounding is that all of these vehicles start up and run and they drive them briefly each year to keep them functional. Displayed with the vehicles are breathtaking examples of women's clothing from the era when the car was made. Also included are informative short videos of how some of the cars were used in the early days of Alaska. We arrived just as it opened at 11AM and left for lunch about 1:15PM, returning for another 1.5 hours. We covered all the floorspace but ran out of energy before we could read all the material.

Oh man, I was looking for a nature trail to see moose and saw this place. Stopped in and was super happy I did. For a small $15 donation you get to see super rare cars from the beginning of the auto industry to just passed WW2. The staff was awesome too and they would just walk around for answers to your questions, to stop and chat or to even give you little nuggets of knowledge on things that are special to the vehicle it to their history in Alaska or America. If you stop to read everything and really take it in you're gonna spend 2 to 3 hours here, but if you're just a person who looks and leaves you'd be done in like 30 minutes. Though you really should stay and read the stuff. They have some cool stuff and some neat history.

Totally worth the visit. Entry fee is $15 per adult. We spent a couple of hours there. Each vehicle is so well maintained and has detailed information displayed next to it. The dresses and accessories that matched the time period of the vehicle are also displayed next to each car. I recommend this spot if you're visiting Fairbanks.

This museum gets 10 stars from me. The artful display of early cars through 1930s cars is amazing. They look like they just rolled out of the factory. Each vehicle has been restored, cleaned and conserved and all but 2 are fully functional. The other amazing, and personal favorite, is the vast collection of clothes. Dresses dating back to the 1800s, through about the 1930s is on display along side the classic cars. Each gown has been carefully curated for their conservation and beauty. A brief description of each item sit by the gowns! They have hats, lingerie, shoes, fans and more items on display. The staff is close by to give information about the different displays, and are so nice and knowledgeable about the items. However, they are not intrusive of your time and space, they are there if you need them. I absolutely loved and enjoyed my visit to this museum. If you come to Fairbanks I recommend a visit. It's not far from downtown, we walked from there.

What an amazing place! A physical history of cars starting from their roots in bicycles. With a beautiful array of women's clothing to go with each era of cars. Some cars you will see nowhere else. Several showing adaptions for Alaska driving.

We stumbled into the fountainhead antique auto museum on accident when we were looking for a hiking trail and needed a restroom. It was the best accident I've experienced. The owners have curated a wonderful museum filled with antique clothing and American antique cars. The staff was extremely nice, knowledgeable, and helpful. They were ready to show you how some of the antique engines worked and go over the award winning models they have. I was half expecting a garage with a few cars in it and it definitely exceeded my expectations. Don't miss it.

Can't afford to go to the Concurs D'elegance in Carmel? Go to the Fountainhead Antique Auto Museum in Fairbanks instead. A whole floor of cars, perhaps 100 vehicles, American makes of roadsters, convertibles, and elegant sedans of the very rich and famous. Makes like Oakland, Packard, Arrow, but not Dusenberg nor Rolls Royce. You go in chronological order starting with cars at the turn of the century -the 20th century. Interestingly enough several electric cars, many with suicide doors opening from the front and not back. Roadsters with pull down seats, just like you saw in Bonnie and Clyde. These were not your standard Ford model Ts, which cost a few hundred dollars, but luxurious vehicles costing several thousand of dollars -the equivalents to the Rolls Royces which cost half a million dollars today. Cars of celebrities, politicians and notorious gangsters like Al Capone. Along side the vehicles are the men and women dressed up for an evening out in their extravagant outfits designed to be seen. Skimpy lady outfits from the roaring 20s. Men in luxurious suits from the 1930s. Alas it was an end of an era with the great Depression of the 1930s, and the end of many of these Automobile companies, who suffered the same fate as their customers could no longer afford such extravagances. BTW, the cost of a roundtrip ticket from San Jose to Fairbanks plus the $10 admittance fee is about the cost of general admission ticket to the Concurs D'elegance!.

Unbelievable!! You'd expect this collection in LA or New York.... Not Fairbanks! Greatest attraction in town.

Had a couple of hours to kill before heading to the airport. Decided to stop by the museum honestly bit expecting much and more to kill time in a warm setting. And I wish we could have stayed longer, the collection is impressive to say the least and the condition of the showroom is immaculate. Not a in a million years, would I have foreseen such a collection in Fairbanks. The museum in LA honestly pales in comparison. It's not even close.

Lovely, at times overwhelming collection of gorgeous antique beautifully restored cars! I'm not much of a car enthusiast but reading about each model on display was fun, informative and interesting. You see how there were small tweeks through the years, and yet, the difference between an 1890 and a 1930 car was staggering. Add in the costumes from the same period, stations with small movies about travel and vehicles in Alaska in the early 1900s and the opportunity to costume up for a photo with an antique, this museum is a definite 5 stars. We were lucky that we were here on Sunday as it's only open on Wednesday and Sunday in the winters. Woohoo!! If you have the opportunity check it out. Admission is $12 per person.

This is the Best Antique car museum I have ever been to!! The variety of car manufacturers is amazing the quality of the cars is unbelievable!! I can not even imagine the value of this museum priceless!! We were their for hours would have liked to stay their all day.!! The ladies didn't want to stay all day!!

Yeah, so THIS PLACE IS AMAZING! Beyond amazing. We took some guests from out of town, and it was so epic that we went back the next day....and then I proceeded to purchase a Family Season Pass, because there was SO MUCH TO TAKE IN, AND..........because they actually rotate their exhibits. The PERFECTION of EVERY automobile and display is pretty much unspeakably mesmerizing. There is also wonderful and complimenting period clothing on display, at so many of the vehicles. The ingenuity that designers and developers of the early automobiles is so completely genius and ascetically pleasing and shockingly bright and shiny! At so many of the automobiles, I found myself wondering....why did they stop using that....or doing this....and then saying, "Sheesh, we're settling for so much, with today's auto industry!" This is the perfect place to take your friends, your family, your husband or wife. This will be a date night destination for my husband and I on several occasions in the next year, for sure...and I imagine, many years to come. There is so many layers of history on display in this epic museum. CHECK OUT THE GIFT STORE TOO!

Wow! What an amazing collection of vintage autos that still run. Coupling the cars with clothing from the period just adds another layer of interested the exhibit. The mechanic that roams around sharing tidbits and trivia was a very nice touch. Ample parking. Well worth the price of admission. Plan to spend at least an hour.

Wonderful! A must see! More than just antique cars!!! They have turn of the 1900 century genuine wax mannequins that look more real than the ones we have today. I expected each one to talk to me. Beautiful antique clothing and paraphernalia that go with the era of each vehicle. So much information available on each vehicle and the clothes and paraphernalia. All vehicles lovingly restored and all but 2 are drivable. I was in awe of each exhibit. It was the best self-paced tour. It was obvious that this was and remains a labor of love.

If you like old cars then this is the place to go in Fairbanks. They have cars , women's clothes from the period (1900-1936), photos & videos and Alaska history with automobiles. All the cars are in excellent condition. The staff is very knowledgeable about each vehicle. We spent close to 2 hours there looking at the cars and talking with the friendly staff. Thanks Steven for your extra help.

This place is tucked away in Wedgewood Resorts in Fairbanks. I was told I needed to visit if I was ever in Fairbanks and today was that day. The admission is 10.00 and you go through the place on your own (no guide) and you can take your time reading all about the cars as well as the attire for the years associated with the cars. I was fascinated with how large and tall some of these old cars were. I had no idea they were so tall and long. I was told that most of those larger cars were owned by the wealthy of the time and were built for tall hats for both men and women and their sometimes large families. These cars are all in running order (except 3) and are taken out and driven at least once a year. They are meticulously maintained and are stunning. I was particularly fond of the clothing displays alongside the cars (of course I was....I'm a woman! ) the 20's had so much beading in the dresses and were absolutely beautiful! If you get a chance to walk through this museum I highly recommend it!

One of the best auto museums in the world! We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The period clothes add even more to the experience. The restoration shop is right there in the museum... very cool! Most of the cars are fully functional and driven periodically. ...a "must visit" if you are in Fairbanks!

What great service we were greeted with! The woman who collected our admissions gave us a brief overview of the museum and was so kind! The museum is a little hard to find but worth it! $10 admission per person isn't bad. The facilities is clean and presentable. A lot of history in the signage and overall a great visit. Highly recommend!

Just a really great destination. The restored cars are immaculate. Many of the exhibits are one-of-a-kind with interesting backstories. Definitely worth a visit!

What an amazing collection of antique vehicles. Don't be fooled by the fact that this museum is in Fairbanks, AK. It is the real deal! I was really transported to another time.

I think this is THE best classic car collection anywhere. It's not only a must see while you are in Fairbanks, it's worth it as a destination vacation. It's AWESOME!!!

I had low expectations going in, but thought my three little boys would enjoy seeing the classic cars. I am so glad we stopped in, what an exquisite collection! My boys are 5, 8 & 13 and docent Willie kept them entertained with fascinating info and demonstrations. He was wonderful with all their questions and curiosities. The whole place is pristine and the cars incredible. The history blurbs are well done also. My boys even got a kick out of the extensive early 1900s fashion on display. This is an absolute must see when visiting Fairbanks! I'm so happy I took a chance and stopped in, well worth it and held my boys attention for some time...which is not easy to do!

Part of our exploration of Fairbanks this past week included a highly recommended tour of the Antique Auto Museum. When we pulled up, it looked like nothing more than a warehouse garage. We got more than we expected! All but three of the vehicles in the museum will run, the docents are knowledgable about all of the cars that are showcased and even cars that are not! The gift shop is stocked with souvenir tees, magnets, stickers, and even period headware and jewelry and headware of many of the fashions on display. (Yes ladies, there are showcased fashions of the era to match the vehicles!) It truly was a delight to walk through and each display has a full history. There are also murals of Alaskan history on the walls. Stop by for an hour and appreciate the passion that has brought this museum to life!
