The best hospitality I have ever had in any B and B or hotel! I truly can't speak highly enough of this establishment. While we were visiting our car broke down and we were forced to stay another day and the hotel management were super accommodating! I would absolutely stay here again if I'm ever in Vermont again.

Four Chimneys is a classic Vermont inn. The staff is amazingly professional, but also friendly and helpful. We happened to book one of the carriage house rooms and it was above and beyond our expectations. Very large, decorated beautifully, just a wonderful place to be. The complementary breakfast was delicious, and the inn offered other very nice amenities, as well. I am sorry to say I didn't get her name, but there is a young lady with red hair who works there who is amazing; going completely out of her way to make your stay as wonderful as possible. There were very small things we needed help with or corrected and she helped us and anticipated what else we might need even before we realized it. She deserves serious kudos and maybe a raise.

Four Chimneys was very clean and the building was beautiful inside and out. Management and staff were both very friendly and accommodating when we had car troubles during our stay. I would absolutely recommend Four Chimneys to anyone planning on staying in the Bennington area!

I recently had a wonderful experience at the Four Chimneys Restaurant. The service was amazing, and our waitress was attentive and welcoming throughout the evening. The food was outstanding—we especially enjoyed the Chicken Breast Milanese and the Pan-Seared Halibut. Dessert truly ended the night on a perfect note.

An absolutely fantastic dining experience! The service was incredible, and the chicken Milanese was perfectly prepared and delicious. Mark was an excellent server.

Beautiful inn, and beautiful grounds. The restaurant was closed when we were there so I didn't get to experience that, but I enjoyed my morning exercises and stretches in the courtyard with a fountain, as well as a delightful breakfast provided. We stayed in the Estate King Room, room ten. It was slightly smaller than a usual hotel room but that's often the case with a bed and breakfast/inn historical location. The provided breakfast was amazing, and the service was also excellent, the waitress was warm and let us know all about the area and some local museum exhibits! Would visit again! Would be the perfect place for a SMALL outdoor wedding as well.

This is one of the MOST amazing, fresh, locally sourced dinners I have had the pleasure to experience! What a treasure! We have lived in the area for over 30 years and had no idea this gem was hidden under our noses. The quality of the food, focus on local sourcing, preparation, and presentation were all exceptional. We will definitely be going back for date nights, special occasions or anytime we want a REALLY good meal. Thank you for a wonderful evening!

We really hit pay dirt when it came to the inns of Vermont this past vacation. Each inn we had chosen throughout Vermont was VERY tastefully appointed, and while our rooms were all quite differently decorated, they were each beautiful, not to mention, CLEAN, no matter where we stayed!! However, here at Four Chimneys Inn, we loved it so much, we asked if we could stay another night, and they said YES ! Our first night was spent in a red and yellow decorated room, which was very spacious and comfortable. The bed and pillows were super comfy ! It was room #11 and on the first floor. Our second night was spent next door in #10, and those colors were creams, blues and muted gray. For some reason, my camera picked up mostly the gray and left very little color to view, which is weird, because there was a lot of blue, which I actually preferred to the red and yellow room. The room was perhaps a bit smaller, but it was still VERY spacious and more than enough room for the 2 of us. Again, the bed and pillows were super comfy. I think I liked this second room more, if nothing else, than because of the colors. Blues, grays and creams just spoke to me more than reds and yellows. I felt more at home, I guess. Both rooms had fireplaces, but in disgusting 90+ degree heat/humidity, no thank you. On the first night of our stay, the inn's restaurant was closed, but when we unexpectedly extended our stay by one night, that also opened the possibility of dining in-house, which thrilled our tired bodies like you wouldn't believe. We didn't feel like doing anymore driving, so we stayed put and ended up having an elegant dinner at Four Chimneys Inn. Breakfast the next morning was included with the price of each night's stay, but we only availed ourselves to breakfast after our second night's stay. (See separate review for the restaurant.) The inn staff was incredibly kind and friendly, not to mention, helpful. If ever we get to return to Bennington, Vermont, there is NO DOUBT that we'd find our way back to staying at the Four Chimneys Inn. Everything about this place is inviting, friendly, comfortable, quaint and charming.

Fine dining in historic inn. Top notch food, wine, and service. I had heirloom tomato salad with burrata cheese, spectacular! World class! Entree was seared tuna Niçoise salad. Others had duck, pasta, sliders. A bit pricey but it really is fine dining.

We just celebrated our anniversary here tonight. Great experience. The food presentation is top notch. Very attentive service. This is the place you need to go for special date nights or a nice Friday night dinner.

Love the old world charm, nicely appointed. There isn't a lobby and the kind bartender greets you. Decent breakfast included. Very accommodating host. Quiet as can be. Spotless 5 stars. Didn't eat dinner there but room is beautiful. Plastic cover made sleeping hot. We pulled it down second night. We stayed in room 4. Very large room and bathroom. Soaking tub the wife loved. Charming, old world feel. This inn seems to be getting better with every year they own it. You will not be disappointed at all. Will be back for sure. Great find.

Dinner was amazing. Well beyond our expectations and better than anything else in town. Started with a Barr Hill gin and tonic followed by a tuba amuse bouche. The mushroom fiddle head toast appetizer was gorgeous and flavors were perfectly balanced. My husband had the bacon wrapped chicken and I had the salmon for entrees. Everything looked and tasted amazing and was such a surprise. If you haven't been here, you need to go.

This review is for the restaurant! The Inn has been here for a long time. The restaurant closed for a while. I remember having a filet mignon here then it was very good and melt in your mouth. There is a new owner now and new chef. The service was great, Thanks Mark and Carlos. We did not know what kind of mild red wine to order so Mark brought us 3 red wines to taste. We got served bread and 3 kinds of dippings all good also a complimentary smoke salmon taco on a fried wonton wrappers, delish. My Endive salad was delicious and my husband's steak tartar was so good. Then we got served a small sorbet to clean our palate. Our main course My filet mignon as expected melt in your mouth though the sauce has too much black pepper. Hubby's crispy duck was scrumptious. We emptied our plates. Highly recommend would definitely come back and try different dishes on the menu. They need to update menu on the website, i thought they have mussels for appetizer and seafood bouillabaisse for main course and i was looking forward to it. I kind got disappointed that it was not on the new menu.

Very quaint, very Bed & Breakfast and very "Stars Hollow"... #iykyk Lovely B&B all around, very nice and warm staff, the grounds are beautifully maintained and delicious breakfast. The room I had was not very comfortable, the bed squeaks a lot and every sound your upstairs neighbor makes, you hear it too. I completely get the charm of B&B... but the bathroom makes me miss modern hotels. The water pressure was low, the sink was too small and I was afraid to splatter - just too much unwanted anxiety. I feel like the rooms could be updated a bit to remove years of aging. Side note: for non drivers, this will be a nightmare. It's totally remote, with nothing walkable. No food delivery except for the unhealthy stuff (Pizza Hut/KFC/McDonald). This area requires a car at all times.

Amazing food. Amazing wait staff. Amazing experience. We've gone multiple times and have always had a tremendous meal. Best place to eat in all of Bennington county.

My mom and I stayed here for this past weekend in Bennington, VT. What a lovely place! This review is for both the restaurant and the Inn, itself. We were so lucky to have been upgraded to a beautiful King bedroom with a fireplace and cozy sitting area. The shower/bathroom was really spacious, with modern upgrades and very clean. The bed was incredibly comfortable - both the mattress and the sheets/bedding/pillows. Breakfast was standard fare but with plenty of options including egg dishes, oatmeal, yogurt, and French toast, etc. The lounge area was comfortable and cozy, with a full bar open at 1pm. Nice selection of spirits including local whiskies/gin/vodka. Staff were very friendly. The restaurant for dinner...phenomenal. The place was packed so I recommend getting reservations. The wait staff were attentive and service was quick and friendly, but not rushed. We ended up each getting two appetizers for our respective dinners and shared a salad. The portions were generous, especially considering this was a fine dining experience. The chef also sent out a small appetizer (perhaps more of an amuse bouche? I'm not sure if this is standard here but it was great). They also sent out a palate cleanser. Prices are incredibly reasonable and this experience far exceeded any expectations! My only regret is that we did not save room for dessert. But, given the quality of the experience overall I know we'll be back.

I'd been looking forward to trying this restaurant largely because a couple of different foodie friends had raved about it. So when my cousin came from Europe to visit, we decided to try it. I can only think that the chef was off the night we went- because the best parts of the evening were the service, (lovely, helpful and unobtrusive) and the wine we chose- a very good St. Emilion. The amuse bouche- which should have been a tempting assortment of taste and texture, was not. More like a sad little trio of stolid wonton, something crème fraiche like, and jam. The palate cleanser might have worked had it been a stronger lemon flavor- but a bland sorbet with a sour blueberry perched atop just didn't really do the trick. It wasn't bad- just dull. The crispy duck was beautifully cooked; but completely overwhelmed by a much too sweet topping, and paired with a truly tasteless rice cake and some really unattractive over-roasted Brussels Sprouts. The plate was all brown and looked unappetizing. Two of us had ordered the same thing encouraged by the " wow" review from other diners, (given by our waitress). One of us had the filet mignon; which looked wonderful in comparison to the duck, And indeed was both perfectly cooked and thoroughly enjoyed. Our guest said he thought the restaurant was "punching above its weight"- and I agreed. It was a disappointing meal. We didn't even want to stay for desert.

We had a very special dinner here. The atmosphere is wonderful and, more importantly, the food is great. We had an amazing appetizer of wild mushrooms on a good toasted bread with fiddlehead ferns and a drizzle of local honey. Each of the three of us got our own order which worked out well since I doubt any of us would have wanted to share. I had an incredibly tasty entree of salmon en croute that was extremely satisfying. The only reason I didn't give five stars is that the server was somewhat overbearing, going on (with no prodding from us) about his other job. Also, his rendition of Happy Anniversary to another table was SO LOUD that it became more about him than about the couple and it was very disruptive to the other diners,

The food was excellent. Actually a fine dining experience. The staff was friendly (even though it was someone's 2nd day - we couldn't tell), ambience was great (live music that wasn't too loud and allowed for conversation still) and of course the food was delicious

Casual elegance equal to the finest restaurants anywhere. This phrase holds true from arrival to meals end. For our wedding anniversary dinner this year, my wife and I wanted fine dining without having to travel great distance. We were happy to discover this at the Four Chimneys. Though much of the dining guests were, in my opinion, very under dressed for such a Fine dining experience, the professionalism, attentiveness and pleasant hospitality shown by the wait staff, and owner, made us glad we dressed appropriately for the evening. The courses and intermezzo were served wonderfully timed and the chefs beginning gratis appertif was delicious. I ordered a seared scallop dinner which was served over fine penne pasta and garnished with baby asparagus all lightly drizzled with a delicious lemony sauce. The scallops were large and perfectly done. My wife ordered the roast duck which was crispy and delicious. For appetizers the Lobster Bisque was perfect with large pieces of sweet lobster and wonderfully smooth and tasty bisque. The service was doting and water glasses were always kept filled by a young lady with a sunshiny smile. Though not a restaurant that we can afford to enjoy weekly, it is our new special occasion place. Well worth the cost, the food and experience of old world, elegant dining in our back yard makes the Four Chimneys a Place we will absolutely return to by ourselves and with those we care about.

The rooms were very nice. There is not that much parking. We went to see fireworks, and by the time we came back, there was no parking for us. We had to park in the handicapped area. The service was great and they were very nice but they didn't have much to offer about events that were happening in the area. The breakfast was subpar and not fresh and didn't have much of a bed and breakfast feeling. We were there was one night, so it was decent for that purpose.

Enjoyed a lovely Thanksgiving meal at the Chinmeys. The food was delicious and had quite an extensive and varied menu especially for a holiday dinner. The staff was friendly and our seating was by a window as requested. The lemon drop martini was spot on as was the everything else we ordered. Will be going again.

Lovely quintessential inn! Rooms were beautifully decorated, comfortable beds and very clean bathroom. Breakfast was delicious!

I can't say enough about how awesome this place is. I have stayed here in the past and this experience was 1000 times better. Kate and Mark are amazing innkeepers and really care about their guests. I feel like I've known Kate my whole life after staying for just four nights. It's really the only good place to stay in Bennington. I highly recommend it. The breakfast is included and simple and yummy! The bed was super comfy, I was in room 1, and the fireplace and jacuzzi were both great after long days. I can't wait to go back!

We stayed at Four Chimneys Inn for one night at the end of January. We booked Room #1 expecting it to be small, but were surprised at the larger size and comfort of the room. Everything was perfectly clean and cozy, with a large bathroom and a jet tub set with candles and lavender bubble bath. The bed was firm but wonderfully comfortable, with some of the softest sheets I have ever felt (I plan on purchasing some soon)! We were given a choice of breakfast in the morning, choosing to get two separate meals to share between us. Only downside to the breakfast was that it could have been warmer. It seemed like the meal was prepared way before we came down for our chosen meal time. Either way, the freshness of the ingredients and care during the preparation process was obvious. All employees we encountered were kind and helpful, yet gave us the privacy we desired throughout our stay. I don't think many (if any) other guests were here at the same time as us, but the room was quiet and felt very private. There were updated amenities in the room, providing a quaint feeling of a modernized small town Vermont, leaving nothing to be desired in the way of charm and comfort. Old Bennington is a beautiful town with a lot to see and do (Battle Monument, Robert Frost's grave, cozy shops with local goodies, etc.). Just be aware that food/restaurant options in this kind of mountain town during the winter are sparse. Regardless, whether you are staying in Bennington for business, travel, or a romantic getaway, Four Chimneys is the perfect destination inn. We cannot wait to return to Four Chimneys Inn and see what else Bennington, VT has to offer!

Wow. The Four Chimneys Inn is absolutely STUNNING. My bf and I were here for a weekend on our first trip to Bennington. We booked the room months prior so we really had no idea what to expect. We were BLOWN AWAY with how beautiful the room was. The pictures speak for themselves. Everything was so clean and pristine, you can just tell this place is looked after lovingly by the innkeepers. We walked around the grounds and it's evident why people come to get married here, simply stunning. Our stay here was the peaceful weekend getaway we were looking for. We stayed in Room 9, which is the cottage behind the main inn, and it was very spacious and private. The included breakfast was delicious, we had the french toast and scrambled eggs. We can't wait to come back!

My husband and I wanted to see Vermont and found this gem. It has great history and character. We stayed in room number two. The room was beautiful with a working fireplace (which we worked). Very spacious and a really comfortable bed. Nice bathroom and a great dual shower. The breakfast that was served was delicious. We had a great selection to choose from - delicious!!!! So why 4 stars out of 5. Most Bed and Breakfasts that I have stayed at usually have something in the afternoon to nibble on (wine and cheese) or perhaps some cookies and ice tea. Coming back from dinner we normally see some cookies and milk at other places. Even some ice water would have been nice. Again we loved it and would definitely come back..

This place is gorgeous! The people who run this bed and breakfast are lovely and on point. I was staying for the weekend and was surprised by my boyfriend proposing to me. They gave us champagne and flowers for the occasion. Also just to add,the room was sooo clean. I would recommend this place to everyone. Bonus: Bar is loaded and breakfast is served in the morning.

Feels like you are back 100 years in posh style. And they thought of everything. They even have mounted flat screen tv, a shelf for your cellphone and plenty of bedside chargers and USB ports. My cellphone and tablet had a stand! The luxurious bathroom is as big as the bedroom. The windows seem like restored originals! Breakfast was amazing. The coffee tea water bar is so nice. Many common rooms and places to sit. Free WiFi. Air condition if you like and ceiling fan. Walk in closet. A bench to pit the extra pillows from the bed! Room service straightened the room while I was out during the day. The aroma of clean flowers was so lovely.

Quick mobile review This summer was my first time in Bennington and the city could not have had a better ambassador. We were lucky enough to have stayed in the Ice House and it was a home away from home. The B&B was spacious, extremely clean , and our host was as gracious as she could be. Breakfast was amazing and right on schedule! We were in walking distance to the monument and Old First Church. When in Bennington, I will always look for availability here first.

innkeeper was so pleasant and kind upon check in. room was cute and cozy. an issue was there was a dead moth on the bathroom floor that we had to pick up. the housekeeper also never restocked the wood for us and we had to carry some from the lobby ourselves. breakfast was incredible every morning and came out so fast once we sat down. the walls seem very thin because we constantly heard stomping/running from the guests upstairs. it woke us up one morning actually. otherwise a cute little b&b for a short weekend trip.

I'm having trouble deciding whether this place gets two or three stars. It's overpriced and the innkeepers are polite but aloof. It's a very nice place, luxurious even, but that's not why we stay at B&Bs. We're into meeting new people, including the innkeepers. At four chimneys I'm not sure that we ever got to meet the innkeepers themselves, just maybe one or two members of their staff. In the end this place just isn't worth the money that you'll definitely be spending to stay here. We did not eat at the restaurant so have nothing to say about their dinners. The breakfast fare was good but stingy, kinda like the whole experience, come to think of it.

I travel a lot, this is a wonderful B&B. My room was very spacious, hard wood floors, high ceilings, beautiful windows and a fireplace. The location is excellent, close to everything yet set away from it all. If you want a calm, cozy, relaxing place to stay this would be the place. The staff was extremely courteous, and helpful. They want to do everything to make your stay pleasurable. It is "country luxury" as I would put it. A delightful place to stay, everything that you probably would want in a Bed & Breakfast.

First time at a B&B and it was enjoyable. Evening hostess was friendly and showed us around. The grounds and the house were very well kept and clean. The breakfast meal was very good and we chatted with the owners of the Inn.

Beautiful stay. Scrumptious Dinner. We recently booked the Four Chimneys for a much needed getaway. We were most pleased with our choice! From the time we arrived, the proprietor and staff were most helpful and pleasant without being pushy or invasive. Our Room was gorgeous with a large bank of windows and a very comfortable four poster bed. The bathroom was lovely with sparkly new fixtures, marble and tile. We had dinner the first night and loved it so much that we ate there again the second night. The Chilean seabass and lamb were outstanding. Breakfast was also delicious. Yet get to choose what you like instead of "one size fits all like some other B&Bs. The chef was even able to accommodate my vegan diet request. The grounds were spectacular and the rooms very clean. We loved our stay and plan to return next summer!

What a wonderful stay we had! Not only is the home beautiful but the food was delicious and the atmosphere was perfect for a romantic weekend.

A great experience. Our room was lovely and the sheets were wonderful. Chatted with the Innkeeper at their bar in the living room, she was very nice. Breakfast was delicious, the only thing missing was chatting with other guests. Overall a great time!

Stayed here for Christmas 2015....wonderful experience. Christmas tree and a old fashion dinner at 2pm was perfect in every sense of the word! My room met every need and spacious--- with all the comforts of home. I truly enjoyed the friendly owners who made me feel very welcome. Looking forward to returning soon!

I was recently traveling south to New Jersey from a weekend of skiing. The snow was falling, and the roads were soon unsafe for our car. We needed to find a place to hole up for the night and just happened to find the Four Chimneys Inn. What a excellent surprise it was! As one can imagine, the harrowing drive left the three of us stressed out and exhausted. However, the punctuality, warmth and relaxed atmosphere of the Inn and the owners/staff melted away our troubles. The check-in was prompt, and quick. The three of us checked into our room, which was quiet, well-decorated, and extremely clean. The bathroom even had a jacuzzi tub! With the snow falling, we walked back downstairs to the common space, drank wine by the fireplace, and chatted quietly about the weekend and weather. With terrible road conditions the following day, we were unable to leave. I cannot speak highly enough of the hospitality, warmth and kindness of the owners who very generously allowed us and another stranded traveler an extension of our stay. About a half-hour before check-out, we received a call from one of the owners, Lynn, who stated that they would not want to pressure us to drive in unsafe conditions. This space is perfect for couples getting away, a solo trip to escape the buzz of city life, or for the weary and stranded travelers far from home. With such thoughtful owners, a relaxed and private atmosphere, tasteful decor, attention to detail, excellent breakfast, a full bar, and a cozy location, I happily give this experience full marks and more.

There is just something about walking into a B&B and not feeling welcome that ruins the experience from the get-go. The person showed us to our room and talked as little as possible; very unwelcoming, not friendly. The picture on their brochure is different in many ways. It was a fine B&B as they go, but next time I'd find an inn with a friendlier atmosphere. The town itself is absolutely beautiful.

Stayed here at the recommendation of Bennington College and were so very happy we did! Being from LA, we wanted to take in the whole Vermont experience and really felt the Four Chimneys delivered. Beautiful house on a beautiful estate in a charming historic area of town. Wonderful breakfast in a beautiful dining room with a fabulous view. Innkeepers and staff were great. Our room was a smaller one since they were otherwise sold out, but it was bright and cheerful with a large bath. Our dinner was soooo good. An Acorn Squash vegetarian dish that was to die for. If you are in Bennington, the Four Chimneys is definately the place to stay!

We LOVED our stay at the Four Chimneys Inn! Such a beautifully decorated stately colonial inn, our room was beautiful and comfortable, the bathroom very cute and spacious. The innkeepers were very helpful and nice. We loved the fireplace and living room where we gathered to wait for the family members to come down. We will go back!

The room was nicely decorated and maintained. Very clean and quiet with fireplace and very large bath. A very nice place to spend the night. An extra plus is the wonderful public restaurant and bar located in the house. The service was very good and the food was great. Dinner was Colorado lamb chops and Snapper. Good wine menu. Breakfast was very good also. Friendly staff and we will return.

This inn is a hidden gem. We had dinner on 9/23/13, met the Chef/owner and were impressed with the creativity and quality of the food, service and overall friendliness of the community. Prices were reasonable compared to other high quality restraurants we have visited.

I stayed at Four Chimenys on a recent business trip. Our stay could not have been more pleasant. The inn is gorgeous, charming, and well decorated. The family that runs the inn really knows customer service. They were welcoming and accomodating and friendly. The breakfast was delicious, HUGE (I couldn't finish my breakfast any of the 3 mornings I was there), and ready right when we requested, every single morning. I was in room 11, and my friend was in room 10. Both rooms were beautiful and comfortable. It felt like staying at a good friend's house rather than staying in a hotel. I would absolutely recommend this to anybody traveling to the area, and I can't think of a single thing I would have changed or improved upon.

Had a great visit and stay. Staff is very attentive, the breakfast in the morning is incredible with a decent selection of choices. The inn has a private bar open to guests in the evening. The room we had was very nice, if there was one thing to improve it would be a larger tv, but with a room this nice it isn't necessary.

This place is amazing. We recently stayed, got engaged on the beautiful property, relaxed in the amazingly cozy and elegant rooms (huge whirlpool tub and chandelier in our enormous bathroom, along with a california king bed and fireplace in the main room), and just had about the most romantic and peaceful weekend possible. I couldn't recommend it higher. The inn keepers were incredibly personable and friendly (and helped me pull of my engagement!). If you are looking for cozy, quiet, serene, elegant romantic . . . Stay here! My new fiancee and I will certainly be returning for future anniversaries!
