During my recent 2-week stay, my friend and I visited several cities and stayed in multiple luxury hotels and this was by far the worst. This stay was actually subpar to even a 3-star hotel we stayed in overnight in one stop. This was not our first Four Seasons stay either, but the dramatic difference was palpable. Some of our issues were just by chance, but I do believe the fact that we did not "dress the part" contributed to our experience.
First, the room was not up to the Four Seasons standards, or quite frankly any reputable hotel chain. It needed serious renovations, particularly the carpet, which looked and felt like a random Holiday Inn. Second, there were cleanliness issues. The duvet on my bed appeared to have not been washed correctly because the duvet inside the cover smelled of body odor. This was on the first night, and I noticed it after taking a shower, so I know it did not come from me. I was grossed out and flipped the duvet around so the opening would be at my feet, which housekeeping repeatedly rearranged. (Until we put a Do Not Disturb on the door, which is another issue.) Additionally, our shower did not function for the first night of our stay, which, to their credit, they fixed, but we were not offered more than a "we'll contact maintenance." No apology or concern that the amenities we paid good money for were not functional. Finally, our beds were simply not comfortable. We got the worst three nights of sleep of any of our hotels on the trip.
One thing we did not care for was that when housekeeping came, they did not just tidy up or replace towels - they actively touched our items and rearranged things. I dislike personal items, such as toothbrushes or cosmetics being touched by strangers. So, to deal with the issue, we simply put a "do not disturb" sign on the door the second day of our three-night stay. On the last night, we received a card under our door that told us that they understand we do not want housekeeping, but someone is required to enter our room every 24 hours to "observe" that the room was in neat order. I have NEVER experienced this kind of intrusive - and negative insinuation! - in any hotel anywhere. I have stayed in other Four Seasons, as well as similar luxury chains, that have never taken issue with requesting privacy.
Each time we left and returned to the hotel, typically dressed casually, wearing jeans and a hoodie, I felt as if we were being scrutinized, as if maybe we were not "supposed" to be there, which was infuriating. On a lengthy tourism trip with much walking, we are dressed for comfort, not fashion. We did not experience this scrutiny at any of our other hotels on the trip.
All in all, I am deeply dissatisfied with the Four Seasons Prague, especially the need to "police" our room because we simply would appreciate not having our personal items handled by strangers. In a city with many options, I would be hesitant to stay at this property again.
