Our family had an amazing week at Fowl Cay! ||We stayed in Seabreaze, which has three rooms and surrounding decks/walkways connecting them. It was great for our family-- an 11 year old, a 15 year old, and two parents. The two bedrooms each have a king size bed, but the kids' bedroom also had a pull out sleeper chair, which our daughter thought was very comfortable. Both bedrooms have full bathrooms, double sinks, and both indoor and outdoor showers. ||The people who work at Fowl Cay are absolutely lovely. They are friendly, warm, welcoming, and helpful. They make every guest feel very much at home and like they've known you for years. We were greeted by Kooba at the Staniel Cay airport and taken by a short boat ride (10 minutes or less) to Fowl Cay, where we were warmly greeted by Allan, Anna, and Petra. We spent a few hours on the first day getting a boat tutorial and test drive with Kooba, who was very patient and thorough. He gave us a map to help us navigate the waters to various local destinations, which we used all week. We found it very helpful to use his marked chart alongside our phones' satellite view maps because it's easy to lose track of where you are if you're not a boater normally. The little islands can start to look the same, and the low water levels can come up quickly if you're not paying attention.||Every person we interacted with at Fowl Cay Resort was so kind and helpful. Lemar was an excellent bartender and was generally just very attentive. Melony and Latavia (Tavi) were such excellent hosts for Seabreaze, texting us on the "house phone" to tell us anything we needed to know and ask for our food orders. They also checked in with us at Hill House to see what we might need. Monique was incredibly warm and kind at Hill House, too!||Our son loves to fish, and the resort provided bait for him whenever he wanted to go fishing, whether from the boat or from the shore. Our daughter loved tubing behind the boat. We all loved picnics on nearby sandbars. The boat was so much fun, and they provide everything you need and more for the outings-- snorkel gear, towels, beach chairs, noodles, lifejackets, fishing supplies, and even water proof bean bags to make the ride more comfortable for the passengers up front.||We thought it might be helpful to tell others what they might expect and need to pack for the trip.||We flew from Ft. Lauderdale to Staniel Cay on Makers Air in an 8 passenger plane that stopped once en route for customs in the Bahamas. The airline was nice, the pilots great. There is a weight limit on these planes, so we needed to tell them our weight when buying tickets and they weighed our luggage and carryons before we flew. We arrived at the Staniel Cay airport and it was a short walk (3 minutes?) to the boat to get to Fowl Cay (10 minutes?). ||Packing: you don't need anything fancy and they do provide a laundry service for $25 a load. Shorts, tee shirts, sun shirts, hats, sunglasses, sunscreen, and some clothes for dinner were perfect. We were there in March and had a few windy evenings, so we were happy to have long sleeves for dinner. While most people swim and snorkel happily in these beautiful waters, if you prefer super warm water you might consider a wet suit so you can see all of the beautiful marine life.||There IS a small gift shop on the island that has polarized sunglasses, all $25 so not a big deal if you forget to pack them like we did. They also sell sun shirts, tee shirts, Sun Bum sunscreen, and other things you might need on the island. Seabreaze AND Hill House had various games to play, so we hadn't needed to come prepared with cards, UNO, etc. Our family played pool at Hill House a lot. If you like tennis there is a turf tennis court, but you should bring balls and good rackets if you're a regular player. They provide them but it might be handy to have what you're used to, and the surface is a bit different! We had fun playing tennis.||The resort will pack a picnic for your boat trips, along with a cooler of whatever you prefer to have to drink. The lunches were delicious sandwiches or salads and plenty of food for everyone to snack on throughout the boat trips too. They ask you to have your boat back at the dock by 5, and the happy hour starts at 6:30 at Hill House; we found it nice to have a little structure in these relaxed days! ||Dinners were all delicious, and the menu was such a treat to see each day. We also heard from the chef at dinner each evening-- he was very warm and friendly, and clearly loves and is great at his work. The nightly menu includes a choice of a meat-based, fish-based, or vegetarian main course, or you can probably get whatever you want if the choices don't work. There is also a more traditional "kids" type meal nightly. ||The house was stocked with TONS of food and drinks and every morning they deliver a small fruit plate and either a baked item like muffins or croissants, or something like overnight oats. You will not go hungry there!||The house was very clean and comfortable, too. We are grateful for the people who cleaned it so nicely every day.||Tipping: you tip at the end of your stay so that the entire staff splits the tips. It's nice not to have to think about that at every turn since they are all so helpful throughout the stay.||Thank you all so much for a delightful, special family vacation. We can't wait to return some day!
