20 Best Bars in Hong Kong

"With its retro decor and intimate seating arrangements, Foxglove is popular among power-lunchers and date-night types. The VIP rooms (that open with the turn of a book, the ring of a bell, or the touch of a painting) are a slam-dunk for parties. Come for the drinks but stay for the live music: The bar hosts jazz, blues, or solo acts Tuesdays through Saturdays." - Kate Springer

9 secret bars and restaurants in Hong Kong only locals know about - SilverKris

"Disguised behind an umbrella boutique on Ice House Street, this stylish hideaway opens only after touching a specific umbrella handle and reveals a glamorous, cavernous interior inspired by first-class aeroplanes and vintage cars. Plush deep-blue leather seating, cream walls and silver-grey marble counters lead to a private lounge modeled on a First Class train cabin with a vivid crimson palette. The menu pairs modern Cantonese dishes with a contemporary cocktail program, and an ultra-secret speakeasy known as Frank’s Library is further concealed behind a curtain and an elevator panel for an extra layer of exclusivity." - Vanessa Tai

Well-situated in the bustling heart of Central, 𝐅𝐨𝐱𝐠𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞 is the beloved speakeasy and local staple known for its live music, intimate ambience, and masterful mixology; it has recently launched a new steak frites menu to celebrate its 10th anniversary this season. - 𝐅𝐨𝐱𝐠𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐤 𝐅𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐋𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐡 𝐌𝐞𝐧𝐮 - 𝐇𝐊$𝟐𝟖𝟎 𝐏𝐞𝐫 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧 Specially curated with a choice of two premium steaks, including the richly marbled US Angus Ribeye that was flavored with rosemary, garlic, and brown butter, or the irresistible and tender applewood smoked Wagyu Bavette with a savory soy-glazed exterior; both were complemented with unlimited crispy fries on the side after savoring their homemade focaccia and the salad.

Amazing drinks and atmosphere, but the standout is by far the food. I am not exaggerating when I say that this was one of the best meals I have had in a long while. Everything was incredibly well balanced and thought out. We had the Harissa Corn Ribs (my favourite— the sweetness of the corn paired perfectly with the spice and tanginess of the harissa), Chipotle Beef Cheeks, Spaghetti A La Cipolla, Roast Salmon, and Lemon Tiramisu. The Chipotle Beef Cheeks were so tender, and the sauce and tomatoes added a lot of freshness to the dish. The Spaghetti was very flavourful, but surprisingly not too heavy. Very well complimented by the bacon bits. The Roast Salmon was so tender and perfectly cooked. The Lemon Tiramisu was light and a perfect amount of sweet. It was the perfect ending to our meal. Sad to see that Foxglove will be closing soon, but very happy to have had such a great experience, with such accommodating staff. We will definitely be back again to try the Wagyu Steak.

Google
A great evening out! We stopped by for drinks only- great vibe. I was told about the live music but did not expect such a fabulous performance. Playing some of my favourites !! The food was good - we only had entrees. There is a minimum spend for a table for performances . After the first set the lady performing came to greet us and chat which was lovely

It’s rare to hear a live band sound this good — the energy, precision, and musical quality were truly outstanding. Every instrument was perfectly balanced, the vocals were flawless, and the connection with the audience was something special. From start to finish, it was a performance you just didn’t want to end. I really hope the venue keeps inviting them back — they take the whole experience to another level. Huge congratulations to Congo — an absolutely amazing band!

Let’s start with the good, the music was amazing. The service, with all the respect, was not good. It was a disaster to be honest. A hour wait to recieve basic water. 2 hours later we finally received 5 steaks, despite the fact we were a party of 6. After 3 reminders we received the last steak. They were for sure understaffed. The food was good.

This place is really a hidden gem! A speakeasy vibe with high performance quality live music bands combining with delicious vegan dim sum! Yes they cater for vegans too!! not to mention the delicious cocktails there! the team is so lovely, from the front desk to bartenders to servers to managers! We always have a great time there! Love it! It’s now my favourite weekend go-to to hang with my friends!

Came here about 2 years ago and it was awesome. This time reserved a table thinking it would be an even better experience but it was pretty bad. Slow service, they didn’t serve any of their signature cocktails, and singer was really mediocre. They got drinks mixed up and their highballs tasted like they used still water. Would give 2 stars for this experience but averaging out the experiences.

I was blown away from this restaurant. From decor to food to service. 100/10 for the staff… was a busy day and they managed flawlessly giving recommendations and service……. And on top of all that with a genuine smile and laugh. Such a great team. But the food, is wow and wow. I tried many dimsum places and this was better than any1- 2 star establishments. We all know which ones I’m talking about. I don’t think I will ever go to any other dimsum place in Hongkong if I ever visit. I went during lunch time but from what I hear, dinner time is with a live band from Wednesday till Sunday. Amazing. The decor was superb, it’s quite a contrast to the type of cuisine it serves and that what makes it unique and beautiful. I can’t give anymore compliment…. One has to see it for themselves.

Yelp
A must for music lovers in Hong Kong. I was able to secure a same-day reservation by shooting them a quick email for my flight from Thailand to Hong Kong took off. By the time I landed, I received a confirmation from the venue as well as a few important details and instructions. At my request, they even sent the information via WhatsApp since I was having a hard time getting it via SMS. The venue was also really responsive on WhatsApp, answering all of my questions very quickly. The place was a little hard to find. My cab dropped me off nearby and a passerby was able to help me find the exact building. The venue is absolutely gorgeous. It's classy, sexy, shrouded in a bit of mystery... something like a speakeasy. The evening's performances were fantastic! The musicians played a range of hits that appealed to a broad audience (which was great because there was a little of everyone in the room that evening). The servers were attentive and kind, and their service had a personalized touch which I really appreciated, especially since I had just landed in the country barely 2 hours prior and didn't know a soul there. The staff really made me feel welcome and helped set the tone for the rest of my visit to Hong Kong. I saw lots of gorgeous cocktails adorning tables around me, but I was there for the prosecco. Glass after glass of ice cold bubbles... And the staff made sure I never had an empty glass. I had an absolutely wonderful time here. I highly recommend this place to any music lovers or cocktail enthusiasts that happen to find themselves in Hong Kong. You will not be disappointed.

Yelp
This place might be in HK, but I think it could compete with some LA Speakeasies! The vibe is so cool and relaxes, but you still have a nice classy feel as well. Prices are pretty standard if you're comparing it to LA--but definitely on the expensive side for HK. They have a live band, so you'll be thoroughly entertained. Not to mention that their drinks are also fun and delicious! The - The Northside - Pretty sweet, masks the alcohol if you like fruity cocktails. - New York Sour - Very cool light up presentation. If you're looking for a night out (or even a great way to spend your last night in the city), this is a must-see spot!

Yelp
I like the ambiance of this bar, it seems like a lounge from the 20s. The staff there are incredibly friendly, everyone from the hostess before you walk into the bar-who kindly gives you a hint about how to get in, to the table staff, we were the only table there for some reason that night though so obviously they were great. The bar staff too, it was one of their birthdays when we visited and they even shared some cake with us. I thought there would be more whiskey based drinks but there were a surprising amount of rum based ones-which fits the back story with some of them being kind of meh. I ended up drinking whiskey neat after a few. Still, it was a good experience and definitely is up there when it comes to bars in HK.

Yelp
This is a really cool place in Hong Kong. The entrance has a bunch of expensive umbrella and gives a very UK vibe and reminded me of the movie the Kingsman. I went on a Wednesday night and it wasn't too crowded and no reservation needed. You get to enter through a secret door which was pretty cool. The waiters for the most part spoke English which was a plus and unlike the local HK scene the people at the bar were more conscious of themselves haha. It was a very cool establishment. It has some seating in the center and then a bar on the side. It would not be a good place to bring more than 4 people. They serve both drinks and food as well, but from glancing at the menu I was glad I ate beforehand as prices are steep even for HK. We got two glasses of wine and it turned out to be 36 USD but I guess we paid for the ambiance and the entertainment which was exceptional. This would be a great date place but not the scene if you want to turn up. It's great for escaping the hustle and bustle of HK and relax and wind down. My friend was saying that there is normally a full band on the weekend but whennwe went it was just a two person band with an acoustic set, but they were still amazing with great song choices. I only gave four stars for the pricing of things.

Yelp
Food: 3.5/5.0 Service: 3.5/5.0 Value: 3.0/5.0 Decor: 4.0/5.0 Overall: 3.5/5.0 The speakeasy atmosphere is kind of cool and the bathroom design is a bit 'lol'. The food was okay. Worth stopping by for locals.

Yelp
Poor service and reliability and very difficult to locate. No live music as advertised and if your there early to eat dinner you cannot stay without leaving after two hours.

Yelp
As super modern yet retro bar in Hong Kong that gives a nod to the prohibition style of architecture, disguised as an umbrella shop. Accessed via the 2nd floor of a printing house in Duddell street, you will be greeted by some staff and press an umbrella and in you go to this thriving speakeasy style bar with jazz musicians. Cool cocktails, and a range of food too - we ate the truffle and parmesan fries which were delicious. You will find this a cool place to visit. Impeccable service here too.

Yelp
Located in the heart of Central the Foxglove is one of my favorite cocktail bars at the moment. The interior looks like a bar from an old cruise ship, with the waiting staff dressed to match. Lights are dimmed which makes a relaxing and intimate atmosphere. Service is attentive, friendly and very knowledgeable, even when it's packed. They are happy to assist you in choosing your cocktail. Apart from the classic drinks the foxglove has its own signature drinks on the menu with names like "The Bitter Truth" or "The Canary". The bar tenders are doing a great job and are not shy on the alcohol for their cocktails. They also have a small food menu with classic European dishes. I tried their Fish and Chips and it was done to perfection. Thick hand cut delicious fries, the batter of the fish was crispy and not oily at all. This is a great place and I'm coming back for sure!

Yelp
Nice chill ambience. Here for a corporate event and the suits fills the place. The finger foods looks pretty and nice, the drinks are decent. The service is attentive. The place is small enough to be cosy, big enough to hold a decent party. Decor scores the stars, old ship or boat theme right in the middle of the cosmopolitan city.

Yelp
I admit I was impressed with Foxglove. When entering, the hidden door by pressing a button slides open and you enter a lit area that is decorated almost exactly like the secret room in The Kingsman movie. Instead of assualt weapons they had exquisite umbrellas that lined the walls. I didn't have the snacks but they looked good but we were off to dinner elsewhere after our drinks and I didn't want to ruin my appetite. Drinks were strong, service was on point and jazz singer gave Foxglove a relaxing, chill vibe and were still able to have a conversation.

Yelp
Popped in for a night cap with some friends. It has a very cool vibe! We went literally right before closing, so I think there were only 2 other people in the place besides us. However, the decor and vibe are really cool so I'd love to go back and see it when it's crowded. I think we had some Venezuelan rum? But to be honest, I was also a little drunk by the time we arrived and I'm not entirely sure.

Yelp
Heard about Foxglove from Yelp so we were excited to visit. Like all hidden speakeasies, it was cool to see the hostess open the sliding door using an umbrella switch. Inside, the decor was dark and lush and I could feel myself transported to a distant past. Hong Kong Renaissance perhaps? We came for drinks and music and didn't have the food. The drinks were tasty and well-balanced, although expectedly pricy. I was surprised when the hostess said that there was no minimum charge per pax the night I visited (Tuesday)-it made sense later. I felt surreal because there was such a disconnect between the decor of the bar and the performing ability of the female duo. I'll be fair and admit that I'm not a professional musician but I've seen my fair act of live jazz bands internationally. The saxophonist was amateurish and seemed unnecessary; she did not play much at parts where a sax accompaniment was appropriate and spent more time swaying to music. The singer's voice was forgettably mediocre and she seemed breathless. We were guessing if the club owner was doing his friend a favor and gave free reign on a quiet night since the duo retired to a table of friends after half an hour of songs. Yikes. Ambiance 1, Drinks 1, Music 0

Yelp
Real review: 3.5 stars. Foxglove is an excellent speakeasy. By day, Foxglove sells exotic and expensive umbrellas. However, at night it turns into a live jazz club with nicely crafted cocktails. Foxglove's menu includes an extensive list of japanese whiskies, and also a fine list of cocktails using Japanese whiskey. Of course, I jumped at the opportunity to try a cocktail using Japanese whiskey. I ordered the Mizuwari cocktail (Yamazaki 12, plum wine, chocolate bitters, dash of plum soda) and my taste buds were in for a real treat. The flavors were well-balanced, and there was a good amount of dram in my cup which left me feeling satisfied. Some others in our group ordered the Camellia & Daisy (Oolong milk tea-infused H by Hine Cognac, homemade orange cordial, egg white, orange bitters) and the Morning Kiss (coffee bean infused amaretto, yuzu, homemade grapefruit cordial), both of which also tasted quite excellent. The live jazz was great and welcoming. My only complaint about this place is that service is so terribly painfully slow. It took us literally 50 minutes after we had ordered, and also follow up requests before we finally got our first order of drinks. Hence, the 3.5 star review. If service was faster and more accommodating, this place would have been a 4.5 star no brainer. Pro tip: make a reservation. Space is tight, especially on the weekend.

Yelp
One of my favorite speakeasies in HK. A bit hard to find but a gem once you do. Great drinks all around. Also offers food / snacks / dessert options. Good seating and nice live music. Would go early on Fri/Sat nights if you want to avoid the wait.

Yelp
It's been on my list for so long that I wish I just didn't bother as it was a complete let down. Came here on a Friday night for dinner and drinks with my friends and after spending $1K pp, we just felt that the food and the service was mediocre at best. One of the servers was abrupt and rude which also threw off the tone of the night. The live music didn't start until closer to 11, playing mostly jazzy covers of 80's pop music before they took a break not too long thereafter. Sadly, I think there are much better F&B options so I definitely won't be returning.

Yelp
I randomly discovered this place from a blog that rated the top speakeasies in Hong Kong. This was first on the list. It's not too hard to find. From the street, you'll spot a cute little umbrella shop with the sign "Foxglove". It's right down the street from HK's famous Duddell Street & gas lamps. Once inside the shop, you'll be greeted by a host who will ask you for the size of your party. Note that she will not allow people who are wearing shorts and caps in! Luckily for us, we had extra clothes in our backpacks to change into. Once you're approved, a wall will slide open and you'll be hit with a burst of lively jazz music. I was surprised because for a "speak easy" this place was pretty spacious. It is a sit down, you have the option to have your own table or get seated by the bar. Their cocktails were delicious. Some of the fruitier cocktails are very sweet and masks the alcohol taste well. I can't seem to find the name of the first drink I had for the life of me because their website's cocktail menu is not updated. I assume all their fruity cocktails taste good. The second drink I got was the New York Sour. It was pretty cool. Presentation was on point. They have a coaster that lights up the drink from the bottom. Overall, I loved this speakeasy and really enjoyed the live jazz band. It's not too far of a walk from Lan Kwai Fong. I recommend getting one drink here just to experience it and then go to LKF to turn up.

Yelp
From service to ambience, everything was awesome exceeding my expectation. I can't find one thing I don't like. The Jazz live band performance was professionally done and acoustic design was carefully done. It made me remember of Jazz Club in LKF. I will definitely visit again.

Trish S.

Yelp
Looks like an umbrella store from the outside but it's a great spacious speakeasy. There's live jazz from Tuesday's - Saturday's and the cocktails are pretty decent.

Andrew H.

Yelp
Great jazz. Classy place on edge of Central and LKF. Throwback to the 20s. Felt like I was stepping back in time. Good mix of people looking for a little bit of sophistication.
