My Favorite Airbnb: A Spectacular Frank Lloyd Wright Home in Michigan
"Kentuck Knob is another example of Frank Lloyd Wright's Usonian homes, designed with an organic architecture philosophy. It is set amidst beautiful natural surroundings, offering panoramic views of the Pennsylvania countryside."
A 12-Stop Road Trip of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Most Surprising Designs
"What does one do when Frank Lloyd Wright builds one of the most famous houses in the world for your friends? Ask him for one, of course.
Only seven miles away from Fallingwater, Kentuck Knob was built for the Hagan family, owners of a large dairy and friends of the owners of Fallingwater, the Kaufmans. Then 86, Wright said that he “could shake it out of his sleeve at will” and designed the house in his signature Usonian style around a still-fully-functioning hexagonal kitchen. The 240 degree L-plan home is made with opulent natural materials such as native sandstone, red cypress, and a $96,000 copper roof.
The Hagans lived at the house for 30 years before selling it in 1986 to Lord Peter Palumbo. Lord and Lady Palumbo entertain guests here on occasion, and they have also set up a public tour program similar to estates in the UK. They have also added art installations and a sculpture garden to the grounds that include a slab of the Berlin Wall.
One of his last designs, Wright actually only set foot on the property once, for a brief visit during construction." - ATLAS_OBSCURA
Great tour guide, very knowledgeable. Amazing architecture. Remarkably well maintained and preserved. Highly recommend a visit. Not allowed to take pictures inside of house, though. Great gift shop with amazing ice cream!!

We did the in-depth tour in the afternoon - very easy to do Fallingwater early in the morning and this tour after lunch!
No pictures are allowed of the house interior. The grounds are lovely to include a sculpture trail.

Our tour was led by Mattie, who did an excellent job. Although nearby Fallingwater gets all the attention, this paradise instantly captured my OMG-I'd-rather-live-here spirit (unfortunately, photos aren't allowed inside). Interestingly enough, Wright never visited this masterpiece, but you can -- and take in the incredible design, interiors, and vistas, as well as the artwork scattered throughout the grounds, including Jim Dine's fans sculpture. Do not miss this treasure.

Had a wonderful experience. LuAnn is an excellent, very dedicated and knowledgeable guide and a lovely person. The house is exceptionally well maintained, the grounds and the view are spectacular. The gift shop has some really exquisite pieces from Frank Lloyd Wright collection and a beautiful little album with interior photos of the house (interior photography is not permitted). Need to book online. I loved this museum!!!

What a spectacular site! We were aware of Frank Lloyd Wright's Water, but we were unfamiliar with Kentuck Knob (only 7 miles from Fallingwater)! What a fantastic tour! Judy made the story of the home come alive. I was disappointed that we didn't leave more time on our visit to explore the grounds. What a fabulous gem!

So wonderful that this home was shared with the public. It’s a great way to see how similar and different FLW homes can be. He was a visionary. I recommend booking early in the am with less people on property. The views from the look out were exceptional. A beautiful start to fall colors.

It's a not-to-be missed example of a year-round residence designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and built at the top of a hill. It's a counterpoint to Fallingwater which is built by a creek. Unlike many FLW's houses, this one has a larger kitchen with a clever stove. Unfortunately no photo is allowed inside the house. The yard includes an spectacular overlook that shines with vivid colors in the Fall. On the tour, they take you up from the visitor center to the house in a van. We would recommend walking back down. Otherwise you would miss the sculpture park with works from mostly British artists and a piece of the Berlin wall.
The house is now owned by the Palumbo, a British family of real estate developers so there are many touches of Britannia around the property except in the Cafe. Shepherd pies, scones with clotted cream would be great addition to its very limited menu.

We had an excellent experience. I felt the guide was good. It's different from Fallingwater and it's a good experience to compare this architects work. I'm glad we made the time to come over and check it out. It's a nice place to walk about as well, on the grounds.
