My Favorite Airbnb: A Spectacular Frank Lloyd Wright Home in Michigan

"Kentuck Knob is another example of Frank Lloyd Wright's Usonian homes, designed with an organic architecture philosophy. It is set amidst beautiful natural surroundings, offering panoramic views of the Pennsylvania countryside."

A 12-Stop Road Trip of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Most Surprising Designs

"What does one do when Frank Lloyd Wright builds one of the most famous houses in the world for your friends? Ask him for one, of course. Only seven miles away from Fallingwater, Kentuck Knob was built for the Hagan family, owners of a large dairy and friends of the owners of Fallingwater, the Kaufmans. Then 86, Wright said that he “could shake it out of his sleeve at will” and designed the house in his signature Usonian style around a still-fully-functioning hexagonal kitchen. The 240 degree L-plan home is made with opulent natural materials such as native sandstone, red cypress, and a $96,000 copper roof. The Hagans lived at the house for 30 years before selling it in 1986 to Lord Peter Palumbo. Lord and Lady Palumbo entertain guests here on occasion, and they have also set up a public tour program similar to estates in the UK. They have also added art installations and a sculpture garden to the grounds that include a slab of the Berlin Wall. One of his last designs, Wright actually only set foot on the property once, for a brief visit during construction." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

Excellent tour. The guide was awesome with lots of information. The house is very unique and the tour guide points out so many interesting facts. I lost my sunglasses during the tour and called to see if they were found. The tour guide found them, texted me, and kept them in her office until I could return at the end of the day. She went above and beyond and I appreciate that. Be sure to stop by this lesser know FLW home on the area, but is still quite worth the time. Views are beautiful

Seeing Kentuck Knob was great. Like the other Frank Lloyd Wright designs I have visited, it was a delight. Learning about the Hagans (the original owners) and then Peter Palumbo (the current owner) and their motivations for owning a Wright home was a bonus. The surrounding landscape--the hills and sculptures and the farther vistas across the Laurel Highlands--was equally enjoyable. The only disappointment was not being able to photograph the interiors of Kentuck Knob, hence my 4/5 stars rating.

Google
Guide was excellent. Enjoyed it very much. Amazing that this was designed sight unseen and Wright was 86!! Wright's Kentuck knob was better inside and his Falling Waters was better outside. But need to see both to know. No pictures allowed inside Kentuck Knob.

We came here on Labor Day for a tour. We were unable to get into Fallingwater but we found this on the map and spots were open for an afternoon tour. We booked the tickets online that day prior to arrival. We checked in at the gift shop and waited for our timed shuttle to arrive. We were on the 2pm tour. The shuttle took us up to the house - it’s probably less than a 5 minute ride. Our tour group was about 10 people. We were able to take pics outside the house but not inside. The tour lasted about an hour. Our guide was Judy and she was very knowledgeable on the history of the house and its former and current owners. If had to guess I would say she was a teacher at some point. After the house tour you can ride the shuttle back or walk down the trail. We chose the trail. There is a map you can take along and it will give you some info about artwork and displays along the trail. The length of the trail was a bit over half a mile according to my tracker and you can take however long you want but I am guessing you have to be out of there at closing time. It was a nice walk. The path is stone - were appropriate shoes if you are planning on doing that. The location is not far from Falingwater, if you time it right you can probably do both in one day. Parking was a stone lot near the gift shop. There were restrooms there. No restroom at the house or in the trail. We enjoyed this tour.

Less well-known than Fallingwater, but every bit as interesting! We thoroughly enjoyed our tour of the home, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright at the age of 82. Kentuck Knob is an example of organic architecture and was built for the “common man.” Tours were $30 each in June 2025 when we visited. A shuttle van drives visitors from the gift shop where you buy tickets to the home. No photography is allowed inside the house. A gift shop and snack bar are on the grounds, as well as very clean restrooms.

We were camping nearby and I couldn’t waste the opportunity to visit another frank Lloyd wright house. This one is gorgeous. I didn’t take the interior tour because I was there at 4pm. I only walked around the exterior and trails, which would be done for free or take the shuttle bus for $10 Next time I’m around I’m definitely doing thr tour

Google
We have been over 20 Frank Lloyd Wright houses and this one is absolutely stunning. I can’t believe the unsung hero in the builder that insured this building is still beautiful and standing nearly 80 years later. The staff and tour guide are exceptional. Make this a stop if you’re interested in architecture or just beautiful homes

We did the in depth tour, our guide Sara was very knowledgeable and friendly. The home and grounds were beautiful, worth a visit even if you’re not a design or architecture geek.
